Thank you Netgalley & Forge Books for the chance to read Her Perfect Life in turn for an honest opinion.
Lily Atwood is the epitome of perfection. She is a leading and popular news reporter but her anonymous source starts revealing secrets no one should know. Secrets of her past that she has tried to keep hidden. She and Greer, her assistant are pulled into a web of lies. I had a hard time getting through the book as Lily and Greer was very unlikeable. Greer would occasionally make me laugh but it was a rough go. I love a good twist but somehow I felt like the story fell flat. Because I love psychological thrillers, I feel like something was missing. The books just didn’t hold my interest most times.
Probably closer to 3.5 stars for me. My first book by this author, and will read more.
Lily is a television reporter, single with a 7 year old daughter, beautiful home, and a seemingly perfect life. Almost too perfect. But we know there's no such thing as a "perfect" life.
We learn her sister, Cassie, went missing in college while Lily was 7 years old, the same age her daughter is now. She thinks of her often, has tried to find her, but no avail.
Then we have Greer, who is Lily's producer. They aren't really "friends" but Lily is pretty much her life.
Enter an informant feeding Lily great leads. Greer getting involved. And there's much more than just an informant situation.
Will Cassie be found? What is the story there? Who is the informant?
I did enjoy some of the twists and turns, but felt these seemingly intelligent women who do investigative reporting fell for some shady things that maybe they should have looked into a little more instead of blind faith.
Thank you to Macmillan-Tor/Forge and NetGalley for providing me an advance copy for an honest review.
With the pinpoint focus of an investigative reporter, Ryan developed a similar character, but with a very different life, for this story. There were unexpected twists that keep you turning the pages, waiting for the solution. It’s a winner, in my book.
A tense and twisty thriller told from multiple viewpoints, and with a dual timeline, which makes for several interesting and surprising plot turns. This is a story about the secrets that shape families and the impact of a loved one's disappearance on the remaining sibling, in this case Lily and her missing sister, Cassie. The ending is surprising enough to make this a compelling read.
Lily is a rising star television reporter who lives with her lovely little daughter Rowen she is raising herself. When her source starts giving her information on her own secretive life things start to get complicated and leads her to try to solve a cold case and her sister's disappearance. Lily is sure that her sister is alive and she finds that finding her sister may jeopardize her perfect life.
The book flew by except for the middle part. The ending was a great twist and overall was an enjoyable read.
Its a fast paced suspenseful thriller mystery that I was unable to put down. Told in three points of view in a dual before/now timeline, full of twists and turns.
In the story we follow Lily who when she was seven her sister dissappeared. Now 25 years later she is a journalist, a mother and has the seemingly perfect life.
Greer is Lily's assistant and they have just won another Emmy thanks to some anonymous tips. But when a private investigator starts making inquiries about Lily's past decisions need to be made of how far they'll go to protect her.
Then we have 18 year old Cassie who is off to college and is Lily's sister, they were raised by their mother. Something happens while Cassie is at college and no one hears from her again.
Hank Philippi Ryan takes you on an incredible ride through paranoia, past and present, told through multiple points of view, and celebrity lifestyle. I enjoyed every minute of it and couldn't stop turning the pages. The twists and turns were perfectly plotted and the smart pacing kept it all moving to the unexpected conclusion. I loved this book and the author is definitely an auto-buy favorite for me. You're not going to want to miss this one!! If you want to stay up all night reading, grab a copy of Her Perfect Life by Hank Phillippi Ryan!!! You will not be able to stop reading this suspenseful novel!
Hank Phillippi Ryan is one of my go to authors for thrillers. Her Perfect Life did not disappoint! I was hooked from the beginning and had a hard time putting it down. I definitely recommend it.
Page turner mystery involving a famous TV personality and her sister who disappeared 25 years earlier. The story builds to a crescendo and then reveals the secrets. Very enjoyable book!

Everybody wants to be perfect.
That was the first thought after putting this book back on the shelf. Oh God, the topic is perfect and it is a must-read this Autumn. For everyone.
The social media world does not forgive any weakness. So Lily created a perfect vision of her own life. Perfect journalist, perfect friend, mother, daughter. She erased her future - no one is aware that she is hiding an untold story and secrets that would definitely change the way people are looking at her and her family. Her daughter, as well.
Now, someone is threatening her to reveal some information and documents about her past. Lily is at the tight corner and has to decide what is more important for her - get to know the truth or stay away from it and protect herself.
I have to admit that I did not expect that, cause this story could happen in real-time. There are so many situations that I can find related to my, or my friends, stories, that I felt familiar with the people and their actions in this book.
I think this book is perfect especially for mothers and young girls who are going to move out to the uni. There is one of the scenes that I felt terrified and I cannot forget and it will be worth showing this to students and show them options, results, and consequences. Not leave them alone, like in here.
I like it. I was ambitious, interesting, and perfect for autumn evenings.
Tha I go uto the publisher and NetGalley for this arc
I tried a few times and just couldn’t get into this book and ended up DNFing about 40% in.
The decisions the (supposedly ) very smart and successful women are making in this book just didn’t make sense, I also couldn’t connect at all to the plot. I kind of wanted to know what happens, but not enough
Rowen, Lily’s daughter was my favourite character .
Her Perfect Life was such a great mysterious thriller. At times you think you know what's going on, and it turns out to be right and you think you are a master and then something else happens and puts you right back in your place ready to figure out the next twist. The characters are reliable, then unreliable, and then reliable and then who is this?! I loved this book!
Lily Atwood is a famous journalist who is constantly in the public eye. She tries to maintain a perfect appearance, but her reputation is threatened when one of her anonymous sources reveals they know about her secret. When Lily was a young child, her older sister named Cassie went missing. With her career on the line, Lily is forced to dig into Cassie’s disappearance again.
I did really enjoy the exploration of the pressure faced by celebrities in the public eye. It seriously must be like living in a pressure cooker. The alternating conflicts kept the plot interesting as we are simultaneously reading about the unknown father of Lily’s daughter and Cassie’s past. I did find it to be too long and slow in parts. I was also frustrated with the villain’s identity. I thought that an investigative journalist would have clued in a bit sooner
When the twists and turns started in this book, the more I had to keep turning pages. And boy am I glad I did. The different points of view really helped to move this story along and give us the right information at the right time. Hank Phillippi Ryan did a fantastic job of moving the cups around so you never knew where the ball was hiding.
To be honest, I wasn't enthralled with this book at first. I don't know what it was, maybe the perfect life that was described was too superfluous. I didn't feel invested in Lily in the beginning. Maybe that was the way it was written because the character herself is pushing real emotions away. But it didn't take long for things to get interesting and I hungrily read to the end.
Overall, I would say this was a book that will keep you guessing and gives a big payoff at the end.
Lilly Atwood - Popular Investigative Journalist who has the perfect life….. so it appears. Until her past comes back to haunt her and ruin Her Perfect Life
A great mystery with lots of twist and turns that kept me guessing till the very end. Grab your copy today!!! It will not disappoint
Thank you @netgalley for the ARC of Hank’s latest novel
This wasn’t my favorite but I did enjoy it. I did figure out the twist but it was a good one all the same.
Lily has it all on paper. Well respected single mom who is an award winning journalist. However, Lily has a secret. Its one that her story source has found out and brings her assistant Greer into the web of deceit. THis is one hell of a thriller that is going to keep you on the edge of your seat.
I struggled with this title a lot. I felt it took too long to provide enough information on the characters to make me care about them. There was never enough hook for me to care about any of the characters. The last third felt rushed and the swapping points of view made me feel like I didn’t quite get the whole story. I am usually a fan of Ryan’s novels, but this one was a miss for me.
Everyone knows how easily someone’s life can come off as perfect on social media and television. What happens when one secret can tear apart everything Lily has worked for, as perfect Lily.
This book will keep you guessing on who is the bad guy and who is on Lily’s side. Is it her long time coworker? Is it the ex she has a complicated past with? Is it the detective? Is it the long lost sister no one has seen since she was a college freshman?
In the end it comes down to one decision.
This fast paced book would be great for anyone trying to get into the thriller/mystery genre or anyone looking for a fast paced book.
Love and penguins 🐧
This is the first book I’ve ever read by Hank Phillipe Ryan but it definitely won’t be the last. This was a fast paced thriller about an investigative news reporter who appears perfect, but has a few not so perfect secrets. One of those secrets involves the disappearance of her older sister many years prior. This story was super twisty and perfect for anyone looking a fun little mystery to solve.
