This book was great. For an avid reader like myself, this book gives you a lot of good tips to enjoy more books and get through many more. It also helps you understand how to retain more information form a book. I highly recommend it.
Easy enough to read book. I found the first few chapters a little too obvious and simplistic but reading through some of the later chapters I did pick up some useful tips and things to apply which I enjoyed.
I really enjoyed this book. Brown and Wisnewski make a great case for why reading not only is an enjoyable hobby worth pursuing, but is an indispensable practice for professional growth and success. Not only do they make a compelling case in favor of reading, but they equip their readers with the tools and ideas needed to develop a sustainable reading practice. This book is an excellent option for both those wanting to learn to read more, as well as those who simply love reading about reading.
Having followed Jeff Brown's podcast since day one, I thought I knew what I was going to find in this book and even then it exceeded my expectations. For anyone looking to take their reading to the next level, this is the resource for you. From book suggestions to tips on improving reading speed and comprehension, how to take notes on your reading, and even how to start your own book club, Jeff and Jesse lay out their compelling argument for the power of reading and transformative effect it can have on your life and career in easy to digest chunks. Get a copy for yourself and for any book lover in your life.
One of my favorite #Podcasters, Jeff Brown just published his first #book: "Read to Lead." Jeff, thanks for promoting the most important #SelfImprovement #skill there is - #reading.
(I got 40% off and a ton of free bonuses at www.readtoleadbook.com.) #Leaders #read. Consider giving it to a young person to #inspire a life of #PersonalGrowth. I will.
If you are someone who is looking to increase professional opportunity, improve decision making skills, or just reduce stress levels, authors Jeff Brown and Jesse Wisnewski suggest you make intentional reading a scheduled activity in your daily plan in their new book entitled, Read to Lead. The authors point our that people are reading less than ever before which is tragic but which also creates opportunity for those who develop and embrace a plan to engage in wide reading regularly.
Not convinced? Pick up the book and learn something new about reading such as how to build a reading plan, how to create an unchangeable reading habit or how to read smarter. This book is a “must read” for those who are committed, life-long learners.
Read to Lead by Jeff Brown and Jesse Wisnewski is a fantastic book that clearly highlights the many benefits of reading and why it is essential that non-readers start reading soon for personal and professional development and entertainment. The authors make it clear both why someone should start reading and how they can start reading and this was reinforced with their own stories which clearly shows that reading is a great way to learn new skills and although I consider myself a professional reader, I think this book has also improved my reading.
I like this book because firstly it clearly describes the 'Why' of reading. The authors make it precisely clear why people should start reading and I further like how the authors have been able to offer lots of helpful advice to help you start reading, improve your reading, retention and comprehension as well as how you can read a few more books by speed reading. This book covers a topic which I care deeply about, that reading does not die out and it is great to discover that it is not only my concern and that others are also trying to get more people reading.
There is nothing I dislike about this book as it is very well written and put very simply, this is one of those outstanding, fully interesting public motivational speeches in book format and the reader is hooked in throughout the book. Furthermore, there are no disputes that the authors own stories of how reading has helped them clearly makes it obvious that reading is a great, deeply beneficial habit.
Altogether, I rate this book 4 stars as this is a very good, well-written book that I feel is essential for all non-readers. Although this book is written with a career development angle to the way it has been written, this book can be applied and interpreted to any situation regardless of whether you want to read for work, school or personal entertainment purposes. I would like to thank both NetGalley and Baker Books for providing me with an Advance Reader Copy of this book in return for an honest book review.
A great book to guide those that are looking to advance their skills and careers through literature! Whether you already read consistently or are looking for motivation and tools to start or return to reading, this book will provide it.
A good book on reading. Its helpful for all level of readers. If you are a beginner, you can learn how to get into the habit of reading. Recognise different end goals for reading. how to choose books. how to summarise and retain. There's recommendations for reading.
It is hard to hate a book by two dudes who enthusiastically love reading and want others to love it too. That said, as someone already sold on the benefits of reading, I am definitely not the core audience for this book. When I chose it as an ARC from NetGalley I had been hoping for a book making strong connections between reading and leading and more thoughts on how to connect reading to other parts of work life. I am grateful to have learned the Harry Truman quote “not all readers become leaders, but all leaders must be readers” and to have added a quick book to my year count. If you have someone in your life who needs encouragement to read who wouldn't be insulted by a gift like this, they do make the case for reading. I suspect non-readers are not going to see this review on Goodreads.
