This was such a cute read. I read it in the car on the way to vacation. It was perfect for that. I love this authors style of writing too. It was sweet to the point. Not over descriptive. Thank you NetGalley for this advanced copy. I already posted on my Instagram for others to find and follow to read.

"The Beach House", by Jenny Hale, begins with Melanie and the loss of her beloved Grandmother. To her surprise, her Grandmother left her dilapidated beach house to her. Needing a change, Melanie takes on the challenge with the help of local carpenter Josh. Sparks fly and even a mystery ensues once they find old love letters in the house. But what will happen when they discover the truth?

I thought this was a cute book and enjoyable to read. The storyline was a little formulaic, but I did enjoy that the author included a foster care storyline. Thanks to NetGalley for the ARC. All opinions are my own.

This book was just ok for me. I had such high hopes for it. It sounded exactly like the type of book I usually really enjoy. But somewhere this one just fell a bit flat for me. It was ok, it was a nice little story, but it took me a long time to get into this one. I kept putting it down and going back to it before I could really get myself into it.

I enjoyed the characters, I enjoyed the story of the relationship between Melanie and her grandmother, but I found most of the story a bit slow in places and I think that's where it lost me a bit.

However, it was an easy summer read and I enjoyed it enough to finish.

I am a huge fan of Jenny Hales Christmas books but this was my first summer read from her.
I have to say I loved it!
Jenny Is a wonderful weaver of stories, how she ties so many smaller stories into one bigger picture is an art.
A true pleasure to read.

I voluntarily read and reviewed this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

A cute and quick little beach read. In some places it felt a little too contrived or things wrapped up a little too neatly, but was just what I needed for a vacation read.

Absolutely loved this story. A story of happiness and sadness, family issues and secrets just waiting to be unfolded. The setting was described beautifully and could easily imagine myself there.

The Beach House is a sweet romance with just a hint of mystery to keep it interesting.

An excellent beach read; the dialogue is light and flirty, and Melanie and Josh definitely have chemistry. Jenny Hale skips over this a bit more than I would have liked - there are a few scenes that could've been taken further to give the characters more depth, but it was an enjoyable, easy to read story.

A little too predictable and implausible for my tastes - if you found a box of unopened letters about a mysterious love story involving your family would it take you days to read them or would you sit down and read them all immediately? And I will never not find it annoying when characters fall in love in an unbelievably short amount of time, I nonetheless enjoyed the palate cleanser between books.

The Beach House by ⭐️⭐️⭐️

Melanie has spent the last 3 years taking care of her gran so when she requests in her will that Melanie should use her inheritance to buy a run down beach house she feels obliged to follow her wishes.

Cue a hunky and broody builder for her to fall for and lots of friendly locals to take her under their wing! 😆

It is undoubtedly far fetched and predictable but it was just what I needed and I flew through this lovely summer romance, would recommend to anyone who is looking for a nice easy holiday read.

This was a beautiful and easy to read story. When her beloved Gram dies, Melanie follows her wishes and uses her inheritance to buy "The Ellis House" without knowing much about the significance of it. When she gets there, it is a run down monstrosity with a reputation for being haunted by the mysterious Alfred Ellis. After a hurricane brings some secrets to the surface, Melanie enlists the help of Josh to bring the home back to its former glory. But the secrets she uncovers, have a massive flow on effect that will make a difference to their lives, the lives of several families and one special little boy.

Having spent the past years caring for her grandmother, Melanie is lost now without her. A need for full-time care means that she’d left her job, and with the bequest from her grandmother as well as a directive to purchase and rehab a decrepit beach house they’d often pass on their walks in the summer, she heads off. Fully supported by her family, including her sister who is willing to leave her own young family to pitch in, Melanie is hoping for the best. Arriving at the house, she realizes that not only is she unable to repair the place herself but can’t seem to get the local ‘jack of all trades’ to even speak to her about the work.

Josh is planning on leaving his home for a job in New York that will allow him to stockpile money and build his dream house on land left by his beloved grandfather. When Melanie approaches him about working on the house, not only is he determined to leave, but years of ‘stories’ about the previous owner have him uninterested. Of course, there are secrets here – if only Melanie (or Josh) understood just how long back they go. But with a falling-down house, a damsel in distress, and a hurricane fast approaching, there’s something about Melanie that won’t let Josh just walk away.

A ton of back and forth, snapping and snarking and plenty of intrigue to unpack when a cache of letters is found, Melanie and Josh are both fighting the attraction between them, even as Josh’s plans to leave seem to be foiled at every turn. When the secret is revealed, too late for either Josh or Melanie to deny their connection, it could turn everything upside down for them both. A story of loss, mystery, opening oneself to possibilities and a lovely old beach house as a backdrop, the addition of secondary characters in the present keeps the action moving forward and the worries about “what was” from overtaking most of the story. It was a lovely escape that can also serve as a warning that not all secrets long held will lead to disaster.

I received an eArc copy of the title from the publisher via NetGalley for purpose of honest review. I was not compensated for this review: all conclusions are my own responsibility.

Melanie is going to fulfill her grandmother's wishes. In order to do so she needs a contractor. She meets Josh who is quite cranky. This is a great summer read. Ms Hale kept the story moving with some mystery. I enjoyed this book alot.

This is the second Jenny Hale book I have read and it won't be the last. It is a lovely romance read with an intriguing backstory that keeps you gripped. I love the idea of having an old house in a beautiful area and transforming it into a B&B - the romance is simply a bonus. It was a highly predictable story but you often find with romance reads that's exactly what you need.

Thank you to NetGalley, the publishing house and the author for the opportunity to read an advance reader copy of this book in return for a review based upon my honest opinion.

This was a delightful book, a great vacation read. When Melanie’s grandmother passes away she’s expecting to get her house, as she gave up so much to stay with her grandmother her last few years not that Melanie regretted it one bit. But she’s surprised to find out that her grandmother left her money on the condition that she buy a derelict crumbling house in the nearby village of Rosemary Bay. The house that her and her grandmother fantasized about fixing up and turning into a guest house so many times over the years. Melanie doesn’t know what to do but she decides that maybe her grandmother knew best, she buys the property and moves to Rosemary Bay to try to renovate the beach house.

Local carpenter, Josh, and all around good guy according to the word of the locals ends up losing a bet and the result is having to help her out. As Josh and Melanie get thrown together again and again, she just didn’t see what the locals are talking about, he acts cold towards her even though his actions are kind. Melanie finds a package of unsent letters in the home belonging to the home’s builder and only occupant, they uncover secrets that may tear the small village apart and that may hit closer to home than she could imagine. What was the real reason her Gram wanted her to be there and being life back to this lonely home?

I really enjoyed this book, it just had a really nice backstory and was well told. Rosemary Bay sounds like a lovely place to go on vacation.
