This is an amazing story. Have you ever thought about the story of the Peace Symbol? It not only inspired adults, but children were, and are, inspired too. This book is designed with children in mind teaching this history of important Peace Symbol. The author has given a timeline. This was an interesting way to learn history and learning about the Peace Symbol was great. Not only does this teach about history and the Peace Symbol, but it can be a great way to open discussion of various social experiences throughout time. This would be good for home, but school lessons would benefit from it as well. Even upper-level classes would be more interesting with this story included.
The illustrations in this book are just absolutely amazing! Colorful and detailed and with a lot to look at.
I loved the people, the diversity, and particularly enjoyed the smaller paintings throughout the book.
I definitely think more people should read this book, especially in today’s world.
Peace is so important and I know most, if not all of us could use it in our day to day lives.
Learning about and knowing now the origins of the symbol itself is something I’ll carry with me for the rest of my life.
This is a nice picture book for introducing children to the peace symbol, how it was created, and how it's been used. It would make a nice read-aloud and discussion starter; the picture book portion is a bit lacking in detail, but those details are included in the two-page narrative at the end, as well as in the timeline that follows the narrative. The illustrations add greatly to the story. Appropriate for children of all ages.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
This is a beautifully illustrated story of the history of the peace symbol. It would be wonderful for teaching about peaceful protests in a course that covers civil rights and government.
I have added this book to my TrueStory Bookshop and recommend it in three categories:

True Stories ~ Activists

This is an informative picture book about the creation of the now famous peace sign. A young man in England started it all as he created a symbol to display during a protest against nuclear weapons. IT made its way to the United States and became a symbol of peace during the Vietnam War. There is a detailed list of the many times the symbol appeared at gatherings focused on peace. I enjoyed learning about this sign that was introduced the year I was born and still spreads a message to the world without saying a word. Great to share with the younger generations to reinforce the power of symbols in society.

This book fits well with the yearlong study I do with my students about how little actions can make big differences. This book traces the beginnings of the Peace Sign through its iterations coming to mean justice. I found the history in the afterword to be my personal favorite part! I kind of wish that they had gone into why he chose the three lines in a circle to be a symbol for disarmament in the story and not waited until the afterword. In the story it just says that it was a symbol of his dream. What I loved is how the book traces the peace sign through history as a symbol for peaceful protest and against injustice of all kinds.
Three Lines in a Circle is the biography of the peace symbol that has been used in numerous protests worldwide for various causes.
I learned from the book that Gerald Holtom created a peace symbol, a graphic design artist in 1958 for a nuclear disarmament movement. It was first used in London and then it caught on in the United States of America. The strength of this book is the illustrations and the simple prose. The book also provides a short history of the peace symbol.
Three Lines in a Circle is a STEAM book that brings to light the power of a symbol and one man’s dream to change the world for the better.
I thought that this was an enjoyable book
The story was easy to follow and it was really great to understand how the symbol came to be and how it has changed the meanings and expanded over time too.
I liked the illustrations and the messages that the books gives to children too.
It is four stars from me for this one –highly recommended!
A fun story of the peace symbol told in a way that also teaches us about history and social justice. The illustrations are beautiful and I think children will love learning from this book!
I really liked this book. It has a great explanation of the the ever famous peace sign came to be. I like the illustrations and at the end there is a detailed description of the peace sign and also a listing of the many peace rally's through the years.
Ever wonder where the peace sign came from? It's a fascinating story! I interviewed the author at https://dulemba.blogspot.com/2021/08/michael-g-longs-three-lines-in-circle_01435773657.html . The artwork will blow your socks off too!
A history of how the peace symbol became a powerful icon. Designed over 60 years ago in London by activist Gerald Holtom to protest against nuclear weapons. The book follows as people used the symbol in marches and peaceful protests around the world, including the end of apartheid, the falling of the Berlin Wall and Black Lives Matters.
Read Three Lines in a Circle: The Exciting Life of the Peace Symbol to discuss activism, symbolism, social justice, and peace.
Three Lines in a Circle is a detailed history of the origins of the peace symbol and how it has been used by different social movements over time. The illustrations help to drive the message of the words which are quite moving. Children will be fascinated by what they learn because the symbol is so prominent in the world, so learning where it comes from and why will engage them with other topics introduced in the story. I would add this to my school library and get the book for my 9 year-old daughter. She is a budding activist and would love this book.
Great illustrations! I loved all the pictures, and the diversity shown in each picture. The story was good, I would have appreciated more on “why” he came up with it.

This book is stunning. And quite meaningful, especially, i think, for those of us who were teens in the mid to late 60s.
Excellent information regarding its creation and how it has evolved into such an iconic symbol world wide.
This book is perfect for teaching my children and grandchildren about the history, meaning, and visible use of the peace symbol in countries all over the world. It made it easier to explain to others why my blue t-shirt has a peace symbol overlaid on a field of sunflowers in 2022.
Excellent narrative by the author and memorable illustrations by Carlos Velez. Every public and school library needs a copy!
I requested and received a free temporary e-book on Adobe Digital Editions from Flyaway Books via NetGalley. Thank you!
"Three Lines in a Circle" is a great book about the history of the peace symbol. I loved the beautiful images of protests and rally's of people using the peace sign to represent the love and acceptance they desire and deserve. The only complaint I have is that it isn't longer. I would love for kids to learn more about the history of the peace symbol and more about the different groups and organizations that use it.
Thank you Netgalley for giving me the opportunity to read this book for free. All opinions are my own.
This picture book provided beautiful pictures and an easy to understand, quick book about the peace sign; what it stands for and how it came to be. This would be a great book for elementary students to gain better background knowledge about the peace sign.
This picture book is not only visually stunning but also so deeply meaningful. It features a perfect balance of background about the creation of the peace sign, along with how it has been used and what it has come to mean to people around the world (including many social issues that continue to require attention in 2022). Perfect for the elementary library or personal children's book collection.
The book promotes ingenuity, diversity, community, empathy, and of course, peace. The message here is so very important to share with children from the very beginning. Just beautiful!
