Everly is in Valeria for one reason: her best friend's wedding. The illegitimate daughter of a duke, she has no desire to reconnect with a father whose only nod to her existence was to send her to a snooty private school. Nor does she want to reminisce with the former classmates who looked down on her and made her adolescence a misery.
Still, she needs a job to help cover the costs of her mother's medical bills. A New York editor has said he'll give her a staff position if she can bring him a scoop on the royal family. She doesn't write gossip—not anymore. But when she runs into bad boy prince Alexander at the wedding, she holds out hope of stumbling onto a story.
Xander has suffered under the scrutiny of the press all his life, his every action spun to be shone in the worst possible light. Meanwhile, women flock to him, not caring about the truth as long as there's a chance at a crown. But Everly is different. She denies him at every turn, even though they can both feel the heat between them. When they finally give in to their feelings, is it just physical? Or can they find lasting love despite the secrets hanging between them?
Book 2 in the ROYALLY ENGAGED series is just as much fun as the first one. The irresistible characters in this quirky romantic comedy tugged at my heart. Everly and Xander both made mistakes as teens, but they've grown up since then. They understand each other in a way no one else can. The book drips with sexual tension and doesn't skimp on the steamy scenes.
Thanks, NetGalley, for the ARC I received. This is my honest and voluntary review.
exy and steamy in the best way! This was the second book in the series and I didn't feel like I was missing anything by not reading the first (although now I want to go back and find out how Liam and Elena fell in love!).
I love snarky characters and thoroughly enjoyed the back and forth between Everly and Xander. Such build up! I especially loved the scene where Xander interrupted Everly’s Supernatural viewing (one of my fave shows!)....and the one where they were stuck in the wine cellar....and wait, just about every scene. Lighthearted, seductive and so much fun- can't wait for Pippa's story!
Royal Trouble was a fun quick read full of humour and romance. I would definitely recommend for anyone looking for a fun romance novel this summer. It is the second book in the series but it reads like a standalone, I read it without reading the first book and didn't feel like I was missing anything.
2.5/5 stars
I struggled with whether or not I really enjoyed this book. I love a good royal/commoner pairing and enjoyed the added drama of Everly's parentage, but I didn't really like Everly as a character all that much. Her motivations were questionable and her actions often cruel. As a result, I wasn't invested in their relationship very much because I wanted better for Xander.
However, the resolution of the story was good and I felt that most bad actions/motivations were expunged. Overall, the plot was good, the main character not so much.
It was so much fun to dive deeper into the characters of Evie and Xander. On the surface, they seem to be one dimensional --- he a royal playboy and her a struggling writer who will do anything to advance her career. But both are so much more than what first meets the eye, and together they are a delicious power couple.
A breezy & delightful read --- can't wait to go back and read the first book of the series!
This was a great read. Xander and Everly had great banter and their attraction jumped out of the pages. The story moved at a great pace and was a joy to read. I had read the first in the series which was also really good, but this book could definitely be read as a stand-alone.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publishers for allowing me to read a preview copy of this book. Thoroughly enjoyed the escape.
I was so excited to get this book. I've been dying for Xander's story! And it was exactly what I wanted.
A gentle 4⭐️
I read this book not realizing it was a second in the series. That caused no real problems, as this stands alone just fine and dandy. I’m unlikely to go back, but I could see myself going forward. This in part is because I’m already attached to the couple in this book, if I go back and it’s still in Xander’s party phase, I’ll find that less enjoyable for certain.
I liked that this book had slow burn of emotions, but less so of some more physical interactions. And I appreciated that despite the struggle you expect all couples to go through near the end of a romance novel, there was a certainty of their feelings. Not just it being obvious to you the reader, but in how the characters thought to themselves.
Thank you netgalley and Entangle Publishing for the arc in exchange for this honest review!
A misunderstood prince falling in love with the person he least expects? Count me in!
This was so much fun to read and just to joy to get lost in. Everything about Prince Alexander is wonderful. His character was so alive and entertaining. A very run of the mill kind of guy until you dig deeper to find a heart of gold. Book boyfriend material, am I right? Plus it doesn't hurt that he's a prince.
The author. Jennifer Bonds, is new to me and this is the first book I've read from her. I learned that there is another book, prior to this in the series and I want to read that one to for Liam's story! I can't wait for the next book with Pippa, that should be an exciting book to read! Jennifer, you have my full attention!
Did I mention there was steam? Very spicy steam, and I was all for it!
Thank you to NetGalley and Entangled: Amara for the earc in return for an honest review.
****Royal Trouble by Jennifer Bonds is an irreverent, snarky, sexy peek at the spare of the fictional Valerian monarchy. The spare, Xander, brings to mind a “real royal” that was caught on camera au naturelle before his now controversial marriage. Told by his parents to clean up his act before the heir’s wedding proves to be harder than Xander anticipated, especially after he renews his acquaintance with Everly, another Valerian often ridiculed in school for having been conceived, shall we say, on the wrong side of the blanket. The relationship between these two is humorous, intense, hot, frustrated and filled with secret agendas. It was a fun read. The language, however, especially in the beginning includes many four letter words that may offend sensitive readers. I voluntarily reviewed an advance copy of this book from NetGalley. Highly recommend.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the arc of this book. All opinions expressed are my own.
I really enjoyed Royal Trouble featuring Prince Alexander Stanley, the “spare” who is known for being wild and a definite lady’s man who has decided to change to a more wholesome image. He meets Everly Wilson at a royal court event and remembers her from boarding school. Everly knows quite a lot more about.Xander than she lets on. She will eventually have to tell him the truth about her job as the creator of the website, Royals Gone Wild, which has done much to further Prince Xander’s wild reputation. But, in order to move em forward romantically, she needs to tell him the truth.
This story was really sweet and a times quite steamy! I loved both characters and found their chemistry pulling me in..
I loved this book! It was very well written, and I loved every minute of it. Who doesn't like a bad boy as a lead character and make that a royal one on top of it.... yes please... An American writer vs. HRH bad boy what could go wrong, or right... This book is a must read and once I started I could not put it down.
A funny smart read . A prince who tries to change the way people see him from wild boy to someone who can be admire and a woman who needs money for her mothers medical bills and will do anything to make it happen . But then love comes .A happy ending .
I received this novel from net galley and the publisher as an ARC. Thank you! All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Sexy and sassy, this book is a winner! Everly the illegitimate daughter of a duke, was bullied and harassed endlessly while in school. She struck back at the overly entitled royals by creating a tell all web site, Royals Gone Wild. In addition to a forum unload on the royals, she also was able to monetize it in order to pay for college and help her mother with her medical expenses.
Xander is the spare heir, and, possibly, illegitimate son. He's worn his parents infidelity as though it was his own failing. However, he also took it as a license to party hard and make the tabloids frequently and in all the wrong ways.
When Xander and Everly meet again as adults, neither is prepared for the upheaval their meeting will bring to their lives. Sparks fly along with chaos as they navigate their new relationship.
This book made me laugh out loud at times, while also pausing at some of the poignant moments, This one has it all and is a must read for fans of the genre. Put this novel at the top of your TBR list. The author is on my must read authors' list.
