Very enjoyable story! This is the first in a new series. I found the characters believable and easy to read about. I look forward to the others in this series.
Millie lost her husband in the same accident that killed Joe’s wife leaving behind a daughter Dara. There are talks in the community due to the circumstances of their death which affecting both Millie and Joe in their recovery of the loss of their loved ones.
This is a story of 2 wounded souls bound by tragedy with a lot of family issues going on. It played with your emotion as the story continue. There is twists and turns, love and drama with scandal added in.
Millie Parkman Dayton is slowly recovering from an accident that claimed the life of her husband. the name "Parkman" is a big one in her hometown of Last Ride, Texas. Being thrown together in a town event with Joe McCann is going to be extremely difficult for Millie. Sadly, Joe's wife died in the same accident Millie's husband did. How will the two work together with such a tragic past that stares them right in the face?
While Joe tries to throw himself into ranch work, he cannot help but be affected by the gossip being thrown out about town. Trying to be a good father with things going on and now with the fact that he must work together with Millie is no small challenge. One thing that truly disturbs Joe is that he is more than drawn to Millie. This really confuses him, so it becomes a question as to how long the two of them can resist their growing feelings.
As I had the second book in this series, I was more than pleased to read this one. What a fine foundation to an already delightful series.
Spring at Saddle Run (Last Ride, Texas #1). By Delores Fossen. 2021. HQN Books (ARC eBook).
The Last Ride Society has a long tradition of recording histories of the town’s deceased. And Millie Dayton has been chosen to contribute a report. But the name she draws from the bowl is Ella McCann, the woman who died in the same car as Millie’s husband, Royce. Reluctantly, Millie accepts help in researching Ella from Dara McCann, the daughter of Ella and Joe McCann, the handsome rancher and widower who is just as torn up about the tragedy as Millie.
Spring at Saddle Run has a unique premise that Fossen executes well with great writing, complex characters and lots of emotions. I thought Joe and Millie had great chemistry and I look forward to more in the series.
When I think of romance, I think of books just like this one, that gives all the feels and satisfies every romance junkies' heart. This is a perfect books to snuggle up with on any day. Delores Fossen is one of my favorites.
Great story! Two wounded souls bound by family and a shared tragedy get their shot at a second chance. Millie was “chosen” to research the woman who was thought to have been her husband’s mistress. Joe has to endure that research and come to terms with whatever that turns out to be. They fight their attraction knowing it will cause problems, but inevitably it turns into love, something neither of them counted on.
This is a great book. The two main characters Joe and Millie have lots of trauma to go through before they can find love. They do eventually find that do love each other.
Talk about having the deck stacked against you!
The opening immediately grabs your heart and makes you want to bleed for Joe and Millie. Her husband and his wife died on the same day. In the same car accident. In the same car. The scandal is still going strong, nearly two years later, when Millie is assigned to research the life history of Joe's wife as part of the town's ongoing history project.
To say that their mutual attraction to each other "is complicated" is quite possibly the biggest understatement in literary history. These two don't know what to do with all the heat they're generating, but they certainly can't ignore it any longer, regardless of the inevitable gossip.
This is a wonderful small town story, filled with an inventive assortment of characters who bring tremendous life to this complex story. The writing style feels like a best friend dishing all the dirt over drinks, hitting a perfect balance between snark and brutal honesty, with a strong undercurrent of heartwarming emotional depth. I truly did not see the ending coming, but it was brilliantly executed, poignant, and cathartic for all involved.
This is my first book by this author, but it definitely won't be the last. I usually read books rather quickly, but this was one that I had to slow down with and savor every delicious scene. There was plenty of steam, lots of laugh out loud moments, and a very satisfying HEA. Truly a unique reading experience, this story stands out as one of my favorites of this year. I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book.
This is a Cowboy Romance, and this is a the first book in the Last Ride, Texas series. I have to say this storyline is one I have never see before, and I found it so good. Even if this is a romance it is not a cute sweet romance. This book has great characters that brings the story to life, and the storyline keeps you wanting to keep reading. There was twists and turns, love, heartbreaks, steamy moments and of course drama. I loved this book so much. I cannot wait to see what the second book in this series will bring. I was kindly provided an e-copy of this book by the publisher (Harlequin) or author (Delores Fossen) via NetGalley, so I can give honest review about how I feel about this book. I want to send a big Thank you to them for that.
In her true fashion, the author presented a great first book in a new series! I enjoyed the mystery about how and why Millie's husband Royce and Joe's wife Elle died in a car crash together. As they each investigate clues and share the results a friendship grows and romance blooms. His daughter Data asks Millie to cheer up her dad.
There's a lot of family issues going on which add to the fun and shenanigans. You'll laugh and cry along with Millie and Joe, cheering them along the way. I thoroughly enjoyed this story and can't wait till November for book2 in the series.
I received a free ARC eBook from Net Galley and the publisher in exchange for my honest opinions.
After almost two years, Millie Parkman Dayton is still dealing with the aftermath of the crash that left her a widow. A crashed that not only killed her husband Royce, but also Ella, the wife of now single dad and rancher Joe McCann. This gives the town of Last Ride, TX, a great deal to gossip about and leaves both spouses shocked . Were Ella and Royce having an affair? If so, why and for long? Betrayal and hurt is crushing them both.
To add insult to injury, Millie draws Ella’s name in one of the town’s meeting which assigns her to write a report of Ella’s life.
Dara, Joe’s daughter, wants to help Millie write the report never realizing that she be instrumental in the unexpected relationship between Millie and Joe.
But life is full of surprises. Amidst discoveries, a town that loves to gossip, unexpected twists and turns with family and the truth , feelings develop. Feelings neither Millie nor Joe expected or wanted.
The reader is taken on a rollercoaster ride of emotions in this wonderful story about losses, trust, family , life and let’s not forget, love. This well developed story is filled with complex main and secondary characters and one that will keeping you engaged from the first page to the last.
I am looking forward to the next book in the series.
