This book is a short cute read. It shows how big a small thing can turn into, how a rumor can get so much added to it and turn into something it isnt just because of how many people it goes to. The color learning is extremely cute, and my daughter loved it. She was super excited to see all the colors and how to mix colors to make new ones. It was art and a mystery all in one!

This ocean themed color book is a really delightful follow up to One Fox. Where that is a counting book thriller this is a colorful mystery. I really like it when authors add a bit of twist to well-tread territory, like counting, color, shapes and abc books. This would fit in well with books like One Lonely Fish, One Very Big Bear, Mac Barnett's shape trilogy, It's an Orange Aardvark or Owls Are Good At Keeping Secrets which are all books that introduce foundational concepts in unique ways.

My 5 year old and I absolutely loved this book. It was a short read. It was perfect for the times when you just have a few free minutes for an unexpected treat. Beautiful pictures, funny storyline and mystery all rolled into one book, what more could you want? Thank you to NetGalley for the ARC in exchange for an honest review.

This mystery was adorable. I loved the colorful aspects of this fun read. I would recommend it to any and all young ones, it really was a great time and I think all ages would appreciate it.

This book is so colorful and beautifully illustrated. I loved the storyline of a growing rumor spreading through the ocean - such a concrete way to explore the topic of rumors with young children. The different word choices for scared (rattled, scared, petrified) allows for great vocabulary building and allows for the book to be used with a variety of early elementary ages. As a teacher, there are so many options for connected lessons using this text.
The different ocean creatures are so wonderfully diverse and I loved the addition of the color mixing and color wheel visuals in the back of the book - great guidelines for a classroom art lesson and various art extension activities. Definitely one to add to the classroom library and home bookshelf.

Thanks to Peachtree Publishing + Netgalley for the e-advance publicity review copy of HEY! A COLORFUL MYSTERY by Kate Read, expected pub date October 1, 2021.
Ahhh, y'all - this book is adorable. It is full of ocean animals, colors, and words that will completely engage littles in a fun story of how a rumor starts perfect for toddlers, preschoolers, and even early elementary kiddos (my 7 year old loved reading it to my 5 year old). I highly recommend it for reading and rereading at home, school, and the library.

The illustrations in Hey! A Colorful Mystery are bright, colorful, and just a visual treat for reading with toddlers. The simplified story line is enough to draw them in and have them interacting as you discuss the illustrations.

A wonderfully colourful children’s picture book! Vibrant pictures, all of the colours named in the text are slightly larger and bolder which gives them emphasis. The perfect length for young readers. I especially loved the colour wheel and colour explanations at the end as well. My 6 year old absolutely adored this book!

Hey! A Colorful Mystery is a silly book about rumors that teaches colors along the way. The story is simple, making it ideal for reading it over and over again. The illustrations are vibrant, perfect for keeping the attention of a child. The fish are also completely adorable and animated.

What a cute picture book for learning colors! We loved the silly storyline and ocean theme. Would definitely recommend this for learning colors!

We loved everything about this book-- the stunningly bright and cheerful illustrations and the fun story following different sea creatures. A fun way to talk about colors along with an under the sea theme.

"Hey! A Colorful Mystery" is a delightful little book that kids will enjoy. It is great way to learn or reinforce all the colours of the rainbow and beyond. The book is very much like Leon Lionni creations with the style, the colour pallet and the expressive faces that appear on the creatures that live under the sea.
The calm ocean erupts one day when a mysterious rumour spins out of control that a great big monster is hiding in the deep. Oh my! The fabrication is passed along, fish to fish, and panic ensues. All the terribly frightened fish rush to seek refuge in a HUGE dark cave but OH NOOOOOO the cave is really the mouth of a whale! Is there any way these schools of fish can be rescued and the sea once again become tranquil?
Kids will discover different varieties of sea creatures, explore a variety of vibrant colours, and realize how rumours can be dangerous if left unrestrained. The book touches on themes of friendship, fear, life and creatures that are found under the sea.
The author has included at the end of the book: How to Create Marvelous, Multicoloured Mixtures!... * Primary Colours, * Secondary Colours, and *The Colour Wheel! I recommend this book.

This book shows the importance of our words and how quickly a rumor can grow into a big colorful mayhem with consequences. AND how perspective can change EVERYTHING! Such a beautiful book.

A fun and colorful story of rumors and fear spreading in a funny way in the ocean until they all realize how silly they all have been. I think kids will have a lot of fun with this one.

Hey! A Colorful Mystery is a cute, appealing, fun way to explore colors with young readers. The illustrations remind me of those of Leo Lionni, with beautifully water color-ish texture, vibrant colors, and expressive faces on all the sea creatures. I can easily imagine reading this over and over with my nieces & nephews!
Thank you to NetGalley and Peachtree Publishing for the advance review copy!

The illustrations are really colorful and pretty. I love the idea behind this book, but it took me a few readings to really feel like I was following the line of thought that the author intends.

What a fun read this is. A pink fish yells hey! and that noise startles a red octopus, a purple puffer fish, a blue shoal, and so on. The fish swim and hide in a cave or is it? Great ending. Back pages show primary and secondary colors and a color wheel all as fish.

A playful, colorful, humorous story for young readers, packed with rich, lavishly textured illustrations.

A cute and colorful book. A small story. Not much too it really. It was cute though. I would have liked more to the story.

This adorable picture book was a very fun dive into the colorful fish in the sea and a mysterious rumor that starts about a monster hiding in the deep! I loved the art style and the guide about colors at the end was a lovely touch that will definitely inspire some little artists. I would recommend this to any parent!
