A strong minded female homicide detective has to dig even deeper into her inner strength when a serial killer she has been chasing, and who may also be the man that attacked her sister two years ago, leaves her blind after a confrontation.
With her sight gone she teams up with a Texas Ranger Carter to continue to hunt the killer. He becomes her eyes but its her honed detective skills that help track down the killer that turns out to be closer than she ever could have imagined.
This was a stand alone suspense not connected to any other series of the authors.
This had a different feel from all the other books by Mary Burton but I really enjoyed it. Jordan is a detective faced with a real life challenge all the while chasing a serial killer. This story brings out all your emotions trying to understand how she's going to deal. It is thought provoking and encouraging all the same. I hope we see more of Jordan and Spencer.
Well written story and well worth the read.
Awesome, Fabulous book. I literally couldn’t put it down. I loved the characters (especially Jordan and Spencer). The story was pretty scary and the ending absolutely perfect. I devoured this book in two sittings. Jordan is a homicide detective and Spencer is a Texas Ranger. The story takes place in Austin. Small, petite blondes with drug habits are abducted, and assaulted and their bodies wrapped in plastic. Jordan fears the killer is the same person who attacked her sister two years before. I highly recommend this book and indeed every book Mary Burton has written. Thanks to NetGalley, Montlake and the Author for the privilege of reading and reviewing this book.
DON’T LOOK NOW is the latest mystery/thriller from prolific author Mary Burton. As with most of her books, this is a stand-alone read not connected to her (few) series. It’s another good and suspenseful novel from the author. Jordan is a homicide detective in Austin, Texas and is assigned a homicide case that turns is starting to look like a serial killer is in the area. The same small build, blonde females struggling with addiction keep turning up dead. The case is turned over to the Texas Rangers. Ranger Spencer starts working the case but Jordan refuses to give up her case and starts working it on her own. While trying to save one of the victims. a romance between Jordan and Spencer develop and he lets her keep observing the case. The killers focus then turns to Jordan, not one of my favorite tropes when I read the books. The romance is light, almost tacked on; but that’s not why I read Burton anyway.
Don’t look now by Mary Burton an investable five-star read. This is a stand-alone story and I have enjoyed this author before, but this one blew me away. There wasn’t one person I didn’t enjoy and want to get a deeper grip on everyone. Jordan and her worry, have your stomach in knots, then you have Ranger Spenser, mmm what to say about them. This story has it all, the details to die for literally, there is a darkness that will hook you, romance to lighten. But most of all there is a story to keep you guessing right until the end. I have just finished this one and I cant wait for the next story by this author.
Wow - this one kept me guessing. The "romance" seemed just thrown in and didn't really seem like it was a priority to the story, just added as an after thought.
The bad guy was a surprise. Good story, kept me on the edge of my seat.
This romantic suspense book grabbed me from the beginning. Not many books have the detective attacked by the killer and left blind. I really enjoyed the mystery, characters, and ending

Jordan Poe is a cop to be reckoned with. Known for her incredible dedication to her cases, her newest case is baffling to her. A serial killer is on the loose in Austin, Texas and is suffocating small blonde females with a former drug addiction, specifically.
The murderer wraps them in plastic sheeting and watches them suffocate.
Jordan’s sister, Avery, is a former drug addict who has been in recovery for two years. Girls that look like her are disappearing and all seem to have a connection to the drug dealer that Avery knew while she was using, and Jordan seeks her help in this case. When the petite female detective answers a victim’s call for help, she is assaulted with a billy club and remains blind throughout the rest of the novel. When a Texas ranger is brought in to take over the case, a relationship forms between Jordan and Spencer. She refuses to step back, feeling it has taken a personal turn for her and Ranger Spencer begins taking her with him as he investigates. As the romance between Jordan and Spencer develops, time is running out. When the murderer focuses on Jordan and Avery, this novel turns into a nail biter.
All the characters in Don’t Look Now are relatable. Jordan, as the seasoned cop, is always worrying about her sister. And Ranger Spencer has a dark history, which shows in the way he investigates the crimes. But Avery particularly shines as the tentative addict in recovery, always checking on herself but also wanting to live her life. The book gets very interesting as Jordan loses her sight and navigates life as a vision impaired person.
Don’t Look Now is a page turner. As the reader, I was so invested because I absolutely could not figure out who the serial killer was, though we get a sense it is someone hiding in plain sight. You can always tell a great mystery novel about how long you take to figure out who the perpetrator is. In this novel, it was the very last chapter. This is my first time reading Mary Burton and I am happy to have found an author that I am eager to read the rest of her library.
This book is not for the fainthearted. There are sexual assault, drugs, and graphic scenes of battery. While listed this as a romantic mystery, Don’t Look Now may be best categorized as a mystery/thriller.
Jordan who is detective is trying to solve a murder. The killer has killed before. Her boss brings in a Texas ranger to help with the investigation. This book kept me interested from the start.
This is the 5th book I’ve read by this fantastic author and this one is a stand alone read. This novel is suspenseful and gripping and a terrific page turner! I got so invested in the story that I finished the book in a day. I just had to know who the killer was and couldn’t wait to find out. Gripping! Shame it had to end. Look forward to the next Mary Burton book!
Good book! A read thriller! This book was filled with lots of action, intrigue, suspense, and a lot of heart pounding moments! It was definitely a real who dine it!! Kept me guessing right till the end!! A few times my mind wandered off a bit that's why I knocked off a star but that's not saying much because it was a real page turner anyway! I highly recommend reading this one! Its well worth reading! Thank you Netgalley and the publisher for sharing this book with me!
Great character development, the two leads are realistic and quite likeable. Thus is a stand alone book. Interesting story but I usually finish a Mary Burton book quicker than this one. Thanks to Netgalley for the opportunity to read this book

This novel is suspenseful and gripping and a terrific page turner! I got so invested in the story that I finished the book in a day. I had my suspicions on who the killer was and needed to know the ending. Mary Burton kept me doubting myself and there were so many twists and turns I kept thinking I still didn't have the answer. The tension surrounding all of the characters and the manner in which the clues came together was absolutely thrilling. Due note that this book is listed as romance but it is definitely more mystery/thriller with a splash of romance.
Some triggers that you may want consider when picking up this book - Murder, Sexual Assault and Drug Use.
I want to thank Netgalley, the Mary Burton and Montlake for the e-ARC of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are honest, my own and left voluntarily.

Her writing is like no other. And she knows how to keep her readers glued to the pages wanting more!
Don't Look Now, is suspenseful /mystery novel! With an amazing plot and crazy ending!
Jordan Poe is a homicide detective in Austin. She is on the hunt for a serial killer. She believes this killer she is looking for is the same person who assaulted her sister, Avery, two years ago. All the details are the same! And fit the bill to a T.
The victims are the same age, same type. Luckily Avery survived. But the terrible memories linger, making Jordan more determined than ever to stop this monster in his tracks.
Texas Ranger Carter Spencer helps track down this monster when Jordan is attacked at her crime scene.
A great mystery with some action I'm game! This book was amazing!
Thanks NetGalley Publisher and Burton for this ebook!

Such a good, solid read.
The storyline was well written with plenty of intrigue that keeps hold of your interest. 3.5 stars.
Worth a read.
Another great mystery, crime novel from Burton. Both leads are interesting characters and I found the story to be well plotted and a fun read. This one is a standalone story, and just great for a cool weekend day!
Austin homicide detective Jordan Poe is determined to take down the serial killer that nearly killed her sister, nothing is going to stand in her way. Unfortunately an attack at a crime scene leave her with compromised vision and that’s when Texas Ranger Carter Spencer steps in. I liked this book because the Carter was more than willing to let Jordan take the lead, knowing she had the knowledge and experience to bring down the killer. No alpha male hysterics here folks!
