A Fierce Archer by Hildie McQueen is a story of trust and love. Ewan Ross the Uist when he found his father in bed with his wife. He has been living with his cousins Ross clan and taking various jobs as a warrior. This is how he came to be involved in the rescue of Lady Fraser and Catriona McKay, who were abducted, tortured, and raped by The MacKenzie in a previous book. After the rescue, Ewan Ross stayed with Clan Fraser to help protect the allied smaller clan and to seek revenge on those abducted and raped the woman he was quickly developing feelings for, Catriona.

It’s been a year since her abduction and Catriona has not left the safety of Fraser keep. She has been trying to overcome her trauma, deal with her aversion to touch, and the horrible flashbacks that leave her paralyzed. She finds that there is one person who’s touch does not revolt her, his touch makes her feel safe, it’s Ewan’s touch that helps heal her.

How do two people who are both emotionally damaged ever stand a chance of happiness? Can they both leave the past behind and learn to build a future together?

You’ll just have to read to find out!!

Also, FYI - Ewan Ross is from the Clan Ross of the Hebrides we meet some of his family in this book but that Ross clan has its own series, The Lion is book one and Clan Ross of the Hebrides, and is full of Fierce Men with Strong Women — I highly recommend both series!!

This story is a heart felt read that I fully enjoyed.

This is my first book by this author and I enjoyed it. The story between Ewan and Catriona is a slow burn friendship that turns to love. How Ewan takes the time to befriend and take care of Catriona after everything that she has been through earlier in her life. This is a great read that you will enjoy.

A Fierce Archer, by Hildie McQueen. Well this is another new author for me. I am so glad to have read this beautifully written romantic novel. The author has done such a wonderful job of telling a loving story of two people who absolutely deserved each other. The stories plot was fresh.
I found it very interesting. It certainly did capture my attention. The drama had me on highs then on lows, but that is what I think that made this story all the more good. The details of the story afford me a great imagination into the story. Truthfully the story reads like a movie.
That’s even better. The entertainment was awesome. The entertainment kept the book moving and building on the highlights of the story. The many different characters that were introduced didn’t cause confusion. The writer did a great job of explaining their background and how they fit into the story.
I didn’t find the book slow or dull. Ewan and Catriona’s characters did a magnificent job. These two really had me wrapped around their love story. The relationship has so much passion, trust, heartache, honor, guilt and love. Reading their love story was the best part of the book. Oh in the steamy scenes, Oh lud, I was overheated from each scene. Thank you for giving more then one scene.
I am so excited to read more from this writer. I give this boo two snaps and a twist. Until next time my fellow readers… read on!

A Fierce Archer by Hildie McQueen is another in the Clan Ross series, featuring Ewan Ross, a cousin. Ewan was "on loan" to Clan Fraser where he was part of the new alliance between Clan Ross and Clan Fraser. The vicious murder of a crofter family was primary on everyone's minds, which were all certain the MacKenzies had committed the atrocity. Ewan became certain when he saw the Mackenzie's lead guard emerge from the woods. He especially hated this man as the main perpetrator of the heinous things that had happened to Catriona McKay earlier when she had been captured by the MacKenzie. He had been kind of waiting for her to recover before he pressed his suit. Then through the gossip of others, she discovered he already had a wife. That changed the color of everything.

I love Clan Ross with its sturdy Highlanders and beautiful women. This book is no exception. It is beyond amazing that she was recovering from her treatment my Clan MacKenzie men and even more amazing that he was willing to love her after the rapes and such. Men at this time took purity pretty seriously. He was an exception among men and really, kind of a communicator. With her, at least. She was a lovely woman who overcame much and had such faith in Ewan. It was a compelling love story and an interesting historical novel. Readers tend to forget that these were people, too, and had hearts, feelings, and situations. I was a terrific book, as are all the Clan Ross books, and well worth the read.

I was invited to read a free e-ARC of A Fierce Archer by Dragonblade, through Netgalley. All thoughts and opinions are mine. #netgalley #afiercearcher

Could Love Endure Despite the Pain?

Catriona suffered an attack, no woman should endure. Ewan was her champion. He made it his mission to find and kill those who assaulted her. There was one villain left, and we might never know his fate.

Ewan had his own tortured soul. Just when he thought he was getting close to winning Catriona’s love, something happened to shake him to his core. Could what was broken be mended? Could too people in need of healing find the love and happiness they so desperately craved? Catriona and Ewan need one another, but without trust, love might wither and die. It might take letting go of pride to heal the hurts that remained. I enjoyed this, sometimes heart-wrenching, sometimes heartwarming story and would recommend it to those who like Scottish historical romance.

I have enjoyed every book in this series. I loved both of the characters and the story around them. Hidden McQueen is tops at taking you to the highlands in her books. I was afraid this was the end but this book thankfully takes us to another series

Such a good story. Catriona had survived hell, but was broken. Ewan listened to her, and became her friend, and fell in love. Our characters are so real, so supportive of each other and they felt like friends by the ending. I won't write a spoiler, but know there are dreams, betrayal, love, sadness and joy all through this well written tale.

Catriona and Ewan's love story picks up here a year after she survived a horrific, brutal assault, which took place in a previous sequel. Having been completely smitten with her from afar during that whole time, this alpha protective good guy hero feels it is finally time to make his move, slowly but surely, of course. Naturally, there are obstacles and people who get in the way, including their own selves on occasion.

Catriona is on the road to recovery but still suffers PTSD. Ewan surprisingly gives her a sense of calm and peace that is like a lifeline she feels destined to cling to. Unfortunately, a knucklehead moment on both their parts rocks this love boat more than once until it almost capsizes. Fate has patiently stayed the course though and guides them to their destined HEA.

I lowered a star for Catriona not being upfront and direct when she easily could have been regarding a certain matter. Ditto for a knucklehead decision by Ewan that briefly put a wall between them. But, alas, walls protect but at times are definitely meant to be broken down. As a lover of relationship angst, I'm a sucker for that scenario every time. The wrap up conclusion here though felt a tad contrived and convenient as an easy fall back fix to solve the dilemma this main couple found themselves. However, it still got the job down, of course.

Title: A Fierce Archer, Series: Clan Ross (Book 6), Author: Hildie McQueen, Pages: 217, pub date: 4/30/21, stand-alone but part of series, alpha protective good guy hero, has loved her from afar, bonny lass recovering from past rape, knucklehead moment, PTSD heroine, some steamy scenes.

Hildie McQueen has a way of bringing two wounds souls together to heals. Catriona Mackay who is attracted to the handsome warrior Ewan Ross. Their lives change when Catronia was viciously attacked and raped. After the attack she can’t stand to be around any man, even the one man who holds her heart. Ewan has been hunting the man responsible, a man with a red birthmark on his face is the only one left to kill. While looking into recent attacks he see the one man responsible for the attack on Catronia. He’s left wounded and severely injured. A captivating story of Ewan earning the trust of Catronia, and we see her struggling with the trauma of the attack and being raped. Can they heal each other each other with kindness, trust and love? Can love conquer all in the end with enough patience, kindness and love? I voluntarily read and reviewed this excellent book filled romance.

First off a huge thank you to NetGalley for providing me with a free ebook of this one in exchange for an honest review.

I have as matter of fact not yet read any other books of this series, but that's sure to change in the future. I love it when protagonists overcome their troubled pasts and help each other heal and that's certainly the case for this couple.

I also would love to point out how it was adressed that rape is something you don't just overcome within a matter of weeks or months, nor is it guaranteed that the horrible memories won't be triggered by something seemingly unimportant - the same goes for emotional trauma. Both of these were adressed in a way that was closer to reality than I have seen in a while and I'm here for it.
Trigger warning for sexual violence though.

Also a huge fan of the whole found family/ huge extended family thing this book had going for it and I'm sure this is a point that will intensify the more books of the series you've read.

So, since I actually have zero things I disliked about this, I'll be going with a full 5/5 review and make sure to pick up the rest of the series.
[Review is up on Goodreads and will be posted on bookstagram tomorrow]

There's is nothing wrong with A Fierce Archer, by Hildie McQueen--sixth book in the Clan Ross series--but there's nothing particularly memorable either. Instead, it's a nice tale of two gentle souls helping each other heal from traumatic experiences.

The premise is more promising than the actual execution. The book picks up where A Fearless Rebel leaves off. Catriona, who suffered horribly when captured in the previous book (trigger alert), is about a year into recovery, but she is still very wary--understandably--of men. Ewan is one of the only men she feels comfortable with, though she never dreams that she'll be tempted to be intimate with him. In the previous book, Ewan did much to avenge Catriona; in this book he sets out to softly woo her.

That's pretty much the gist of it. There is some conflict that presents itself in the form of Ewan's real reason for living with his cousins' clan instead of his own and the subsequent mutual misunderstanding between Catriona and him, but the conflict doesn't present much drama.

I like Catriona and Ewan very much. Catriona is remarkable and strong, and it's impossible not to root for her. Ewan is a gentle warrior. They both make some unfortunate decisions, but their regard for each other never really fails. With that in mind, I can't say that I disliked this book, but neither did it grab me.

I received an ARC of this book from the publisher and Netgalley in exchange for my honest opinion. Thanks!

n emotional journey of two wounded souls who try to find their way to healing and love.

Catriona had been viscously attacked and could hardly stand being near any man. Yet it was different with Ewan. "Although she wished to flee each time he was nearby, she fought against it. Something about him called to her on a very basic level."

Ewan really wanted to avenge her but he had his secrets too. As the two slowly grow closer, it seems they may never come together... I could not wait to get to the end, although I just wanted it to continue! On to the next in the series~

PTSD is not only for those who have suffered from tragic wartime incidents, but even those who have endured chronic illness or physical abuse. In this book Hildie McQueens character Catriona suffered severe physical abuse at the hands of a rival clan.

The book is done with taste and so poignant with heartwarming twists. Ewan Ross is her avenging angel, but sometimes angels have devil horns as well.

I definitely would recommend this book! I did not put it down because I knew that there would be a HEA, but it was how was it going to resolve is what I was concerned with!

I received a free advanced copy from NetGalley and these are my willingly given thoughts and opinions.

Set against an emotional background of trauma, I felt not only Catriona's terror, but the sorrow of the people around her as they witnessed her episodes of PTSD. Even in the midst of emotional weakness, Catriona has protectors who would take care of her, if only she would allow them to. Ewan has his own emotional pain, but Catriona's plight affects him deeply as he continues his campaign against those who hurt her. The relationship that builds between Ewan and Catriona is sweet and tender, and I loved his sweet caring for her, as well as his protectiveness and gentle persuasion. Although part of a series, this romance is a standalone and comes to a happy conclusion. I received a copy of this novel as a gift through Dragonblade Publishing and NetGalley and this is my honest and voluntary review.

I knew Ewan and Catriona would have an emotional story, but I'm not sure I was prepared. I'm completely satisfied. My only complaint is how fast the time flew by at some parts. I was also surprised at the ending and that doesn't happen often. These are two characters from a previous book that I loved, and I am so happy Hildie gave them a book. Ewan and Catriona had both been hurt deeply emotionally and her physically. The characters are wonderful and deserved such a well-written story. I read it in one sitting. I will be anxiously awaiting Ewan's brother's stories.

I received this book from NetGalley and Dragonblade Publishing for an honest review.
