A great story filled with suspense, romance, and non-stop action from start to finish! Kade's wife was busy unfaithful so he filed for divorce. The day she walked out was the last day he saw her until her body was found 2 years later. He's come to terms with her death but when her car's located 8 years after she left, he is anxious to find the killer and hires a PI.

The PI is a woman, Ellie who's had her fair share of infidelity but fights her attraction for the man who hired her. They both realize an affair is unavoidable, setting guidelines at the start.

As they uncover more information and additional murders the situation escalates for the murderer. Can they figure out the identity of the killer without further harm to their friends or co-workers? It will keep you on the edge of your seat. I can't wait for the next story in the series, hoping it's one of Kade's brothers.

This is what romantic suspense is all about! The characters are fantastic and the chemistry is sizzling. Kade is an alpha male with a heart of gold. Ellie is a strong independent woman. When they team up to search for a killer what follows is an action packed thrill ride. In more ways than one. I was blown away by the ending. This is the first in a new series and I can't wait for the next one!

I will admit this is a romantic suspense so the idea is easy. He needs help. She is a PI. They each have a past. Sparks Fly. Bam = romantic suspense.

But I really enjoyed this book. The characters are written really well. I liked both Kade and Ellie. Kade is a cowboy who lost his wife eight years ago and he is done with waiting for answers. He wants to move on but can’t until he gets info. Ellie is strong willed and independent.

I love the way both of them were written. They have depth and character. The suspense was interesting as well. I liked the case that Ellie takes on and how she handles it.

Really good story to start a new series. Looking forward to more in the series.

The Last Goodnight is the first in a new romantic suspense series by Kat Martin. I always enjoy her books and this one didn't disappoint. I thought there was a good balance between romance and suspense. Although Kade is a little overbearing at times he makes a good hero, growly and tough, but mushy and sweet underneath. You just know that in the end he'll get his act together and get his relationship with Ellie figured out. I just loved Ellie! She's strong, smart and independant. She suffered from a bad breakup and has more or less sworn off relationships but she can't deny Kade.
The story is a real page turner with several different lines to follow to reach the correct and satisfactory conclusion. I can happily recommend this book for anyone who enjoys a romantic suspense story that's a little heavier on the romance.

A little clique, definitely a wild ride, and maybe a little cheese, but overall, I’d say this is a five star read. I love how this story played out. Mixing mystery with romance is honestly one of my weaknesses. You can’t go wrong unless you are a terrible writer, fortunately for us, Kat Martin is excellent.
I loved the depth of the characters, even the very far into the background characters, and how each one had a story within this story. Something I am trying to figure out as a writer. Plotting this book took skills. Just as I was starting to get frustrated about the mystery, and not having found another clue, Martin brought in the villain to shake things up. Of course you don’t find out who the villain is till the very end, but I loved playing the guessing game, especially towards the end.
All in all, the characters were great, I loved the writing style, the romance was good, just a little spicy, but not too spicy, and the plot was excellent. If western, mystery/thriller type, romances are your thing, I would highly recommend this book.

I really enjoyed this story with Kade and Ellie and soon realises I did not want to put it down❣️It was a slow burn between the characters but also so much is going on with the investigation and the ranch that Kade runs that there is never a dull moment. It features Logan’s who’s wife was killed 8 years ago and Ellie a private investigator. The story follows their hunt for the killer and their burgeoning relationship. No spoilers but it’s definitely worth reading.

This was my first chance to read a book by the author, and while it was an good romantic suspense book, I felt something was missing. The mystery of who killed Kade's wife years ago started the book, and I usually love cold case mysteries, but most of the story ended up dwelling on the troubles on Kade's ranch. The romance between Ellie and Kade was sizzling, and overall it was a quick read. There was a definite set up for future books in the series.

A great introduction . Ellie is called on to solve the mystery surrounding the death of a woman of a very wealthy ranch owner. Heather disappeared eight years ago and a recent murder has the same clues. The ex husband is a handsome cowboy that Ellie is finding harder to resist. Kade is being targeted and the two must find out before something tragic happens. Kade is the link but Ellie can’t put the parts together. A race to the finish and few well chosen words set the stage for these two’s adventure to only just begun. Happy reading

Kat Martin writes great romantic suspense books, and this is another winner from her.

Kade Logan is desperate to find out who killed his wife Heather 8 years ago, so he hires Ellie Bowman, a private investigator, to live on his ranch and find the killer. As Ellie gets further into her investigation, she and Kade grow closer as well. There are many suspects, lots of local gossip and dead-end trails throughout. I don’t do spoilers, so I can’t reveal what happens, but I encourage you to give this book a try. Mystery, passion and the ranch “family “ all combine to make a fast paced read.

Ellie is hired by Kade to look into the murder of his wife eight years ago. After Ellie arrives on his ranch, Kade begins to have problems with a trigger happy gunman. As time passes, the incidents escalate. As Ellie and Kade close in on the shooter, other murders are committed. Are they connected? If so, how?
The Last Goodnight is an action-packed whodunit that will keep you riveted until the final chapters!

A private investigator falls into a torrid affair while investigating the cold case of a rancher's murdered wife.

This suspenseful, lust-at-first sight romance will satisfy many fans of the genre. The majority of the tension and conflict in the plot comes from the external dangers while the relationship faces only superficial and easily-overcome obstacles. For romantic suspense readers who like their characters to have to fight as hard for their love and personal growth as they do to survive, this novel will fall short. But for readers who like a thriller plot with a hearty dose of steamy sex scenes, this new series-starter is a solid pick.

This is a romantic suspense novel. I thought it was well balanced between the two.
You have a very strong heroine in Ellie. She has had to learn thru experience in life, how to take care of herself,
Kade is your typical alpha male. Over protective, dominant, possessive. But yet shows his weaknesses.
The chemistry between the two is off the charts.
The mystery of who dine it and is it a serial killer had me glued to the book.
I thought the story very well done and thoroughly enjoyed it.

I enjoyed everything about this book. It is the perfect example of what I am looking for in a romantic suspense novel. There is a smart, tough heroine and a handsome suitor. The mystery is well developed and interesting. I definitely will be recommending.

This is definitely one of my favorite Kat Martin books. I can't put my finger on what exactly made it so good - everything in the story just worked. I loved Ellie as a character, she's unapologetically good at what she does and sticks up for herself when Kade is being kind of a jerk at the beginning. I liked Kade too, he was sometimes a little too alpha male possessive when it came to Ellie but he did back off when she told him to. As always with Kat Martin, the villain is a real piece of work (but not over the top). I liked the two mysteries going on and how they were tied together. Once we were introduced to the character who would turn out to be the villain it wasn't that much of a surprise when the big reveal occurred. And of course, I enjoyed that, although Kade did help, Ellie was able to save herself and wasn't sitting around waiting to be rescued. It was also great that Ellie doesn't give up her career for Kade and instead just goes back to work that she used to love. A great start to a new series! I'm looking forward to seeing what comes next.

Kade wants to know what happened and hires Ellie (PI at the security firm) to find out. The storyline is really good and I wanted to know what happened and solve the mystery.
I love mystery thriller books, and romance is always present, but there was just way too much of it for my liking. Rating it a 2.5

Turns out that while Kade knew Heather cheated on him, he didn't know with whom and how much. Ellie goes undercover as a cook on his ranch and then bad things start to happen, including another murder. This is as much about the growing romance between Kade and Ellie (nicely handled) as it is about finding the villain (not entirely surprising). Thanks to Netgalley for the ARC. A fast paced and entertaining read.

This is a new series by Kat Martin and a good start. Kade was separated from his wife when she was killed 8 years ago. Recently her car has found. He is ready to have this solved once and for all. So he hires a PI, Ellie Bowman. Ellie has agreed to investigate the death of Kade's ex, Heather. This was good. Kade came off a little he-man at times, but Ellie could hold her own. We meet Kade's brothers at the end, would love to have stories on them. Thanks to Netgalley for the ARC.

This was an exciting read with lots of possible suspects. I liked Ellie’s strong and independent personality. Kade was a bit over the top with his possessiveness but understandably so given his background. And the heat between those two singed my fingers! I felt it dragged in the middle as I was skipping paragraphs but it didn’t affect me enough to stop reading. Solid read.
