I've only read a few of Kat's books but they keep getting better. Ellie needs her own series. She is a kick ass detective that I enjoyed getting to know. The book was full of twists and likeable characters but for some reason I didn't like Kade. Ellie made the book enjoyable. I would like to than netgalley and the publisher for an advanced copy.

After reading the novella kickoff to this series I was ready for this story! Kade's wife Heather betrayed their marriage and left Kade distrustful of all women. In walks Ellie whom he hires to find Heather's killer. Kade tries his bet to hide his attraction - but of course, he can not. They begin a lovely relationship as together they hunt down the bad guys. This is classic western Kat and a great story that I could not put down.

What makes a Sunday read complete? Being introduced to studly rancher Kade Logan. His wife cheated on him and ended up murdered with the crime never solved. Ellie, a private eye, is determined to crack the case. The nest between the two crackled page after page. Honestly, the murder mystery faded in the background as Ellie and Kade kept up,the facade of lovers with no commitment. Makes me want to get my PI license to hunt up some available cowboy.

Thanks to the Publisher and Net Gallery for an advance copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
This story is a mystery-romance, heavy on the romance. I rated 4 stars because its a good novel for genre.

I like the main characters Ellie and Kade. They are good people- strong work and moral ethics. They are actually perhaps a bit too perfect. Kade’s only flaw is that he develops a jealous streak- but hey his dead wife was the town tramp- so it’s understandable he may have some trust issues with a new lady he comes into his life.

The heroine Eleanor “ Ellie” Bowman is no simpering virgin with a stupid streak ( the normal romance heroine). She a top notch undercover detective who is intelligent, professional, very capable and having been divorced already, one that values her freedom to live a life on her own terms -you go girl.

My one complaint would be that everyone in the small Colorado ranching town of Coffee Springs is extensively described as some form of beautiful. The men are described as tall, lean, handsome, square jawed, well muscled, athletic, dark, sexy, with smoldering eyes. The woman have shiny curls, full lips, round bottoms and bountiful breasts that “ threaten to pop the snaps” of the blouse. Poor Kade is described as having a semi erection multiple times.

It’s unfortunate that the author spends so much time of descriptions of the attractiveness of the people because the story itself is pretty good. Ellie is hired to find out who killed Kades wife and goes undercover on the ranch. The conclusion is satisfying, though no big plot twist.

All in all this was a enjoyable read if you like smutty mysteries. I appreciate that is a modern romance where women are treated respectfully and consent is always given before sex.

Kat Martin's novels are light but filled with suspense. They are an easy read, yet never ever disappointing. "The The Last Goodnight" kept me up all night reading. It is a great book if you are looking for a story to finish in one sitting :)

A heart wrenching thriller! I enjoyed this book and the emotion that it evoked. This is my first book by this author but I've heard a lot of good things about her writing, so I was excited to read this book. It did not disappoint!

KAT MARTIN AT HER VERY BEST!!!! The Last Goodnight is book 2 in the Blood Ties, The Logans series and oh what a series. Though in a series this book can be read as a standalone but I am highly recommending you read book 1, One Last Kiss as you will not be disappointed. What can I say about The Last Goodnight but it was not only romantic but there was so much action I just could not put it down. I had to know what was going to happen next. Kade and Ellie’s chemistry was smoking hot and there is nothing better than a hot cowboy in a book. Kat Martin is one of the best writers of today and you are in for quite the treat if you read this book. I found it easy to read, original and just too darn exciting. Can you tell I just loved this book? This story has murder, a private detective, cheating wives, jealousy, revenge, kidnapping, a sweet Border Collie named Smoke, hard workers, rescue, doing your own detective work, lots of suspects, an explosion, a fire, being shot and of course love. I am defiantly recommending you read this book or any of Kt Martin’s book as she never disappoints!!!

***This book was gifted to me and I am voluntarily reviewing.

The Last Goodnight follows Kade Logan and Ellie Bowman as they try to unravel several mysteries, including who murdered his wife and who is harming his ranch. We briefly met Kade in One Last Kiss, the prequel to this series. A strong, hard-working man, Kade had a small role in the prequel, but he made a big impact. He continues to do so in this book as he searches for his wife’s killer and falls in love with the investigator. Kade is hunky and bossy and a bit old-fashioned in his opinions, but his sometimes overbearing qualities usually come from a place of love and protectiveness.

Ellie is smart and skilled, and she blends in well, which helps in her investigation. Posing as a cook at the ranch, Ellie uses all of her skills and resources to help Kade. I like her resourcefulness and her unwillingness to change. She is a strong woman who knows what she wants in life and love, and she won’t settle for less. I also like that she is an understanding person. Ellie becomes friendly with several people on Kade’s ranch, including Kade, and her innate ability to read people and offer support is fantastic.

The romance between Ellie and Kade is an instant attraction that leads to more. Both have experienced bad relationships in the past and are hesitant to commit to a relationship, which isn’t shocking since they’ve both been cheated on and betrayed. Kade and Ellie have tremendous chemistry, and they make a really good team. I liked watching them grow closer to each other and learn to trust in their feelings.

The intrigue in the story is suspenseful and has a few surprising twists and turns. I had fun trying to figure out what really happened to Kade’s wife, who was tampering with his ranch, and whether the collective incidents were related. When another person turns up dead, the stakes grow even higher. Kade fears for Ellie’s safety and will do anything to protect her, but he doesn’t know who to protect her from. The mystery is interesting and complicated, and as old secrets are revealed, new problems continually arise. It makes for a suspenseful and intense read!

This is a great new series for romantic suspense readers, and I look forward to continuing the series. I would definitely recommend it to people who like hunky cowboy alpha makes, smart and independent women, and sexy romances. Thanks so much to NetGalley, Kensington Books, and Kat Martin for a copy of the book in exchange for my honest review.

Let me first say I am a big fan of Kat Martin and was excited to read The Last Goodnight. This is the first in a series by the author and she didn’t disappoint. Rancher Kade Logan hires private investigator Ellie Bowman to find out who murdered his ex-wife. After she arrives at the ranch pretending to be the new cook while she looks into the murder, things start happening on the ranch like people and animals getting shot. Kade and Ellie begin to wonder if maybe the murder of his wife and things that happened on the ranch are connected. The Last Goodnight had just the right blend of romance and suspense. Thank you Netgalley for this arc.

This was an enjoyable read, lots of suspense and pent up emotions. Both Kade and Ellie had good reasons to be leery of any kind of romantic relationship, but sometimes you can’t fight your feelings. It doesn’t help with all of the problems going on at Kade’s ranch and a murder investigation at the same time. Both Kade and Ellie gave each other mixed messages. But, in the end, love prevails. Can’t wait for Gage and Edge’s stories!

Kicking off a new series, this is for suspense readers who also love cowboys. I am one of the very few romance readers who seem to be completely indifferent to cowboys. They don't do anything for me. I'm not interested nor aroused by them. Nothing about them appeals to me. I generally tend to avoid cowboy themes because they bore me. Why did I pick up this book? Because I saw the author name and ignored the blurb. This book is more romantic suspense with a cowboy love interest.

For me, every time I imagine a cowboy, Sam Elliot pops up in my head. I am unsure what Kade looks like based on Ms. Martin's descriptions because as soon as I realized Kade owned a ranch, all I saw was Sam Elliot. Which works for me because I liked Kade. He's a man just trying to find answers. He may be a bit old fashion with how he thinks of women and their place, but it isn't malicious. It is just what he is used to based on his experience. This is why I liked Ellie. She doesn't take it personally. Instead, she stays true to herself and it helps Kade change is mind with what a woman can or cannot do.

I found the romantic interaction and the process in solving the mystery to be interesting. The ending and the culprit for Kade's murdered wife was ... odd. It felt a little forced and didn't really make too much sense to me. As it it felt like the ties ins were very circumstantial and the motive whilst clear was just... odd. The set up was nicely done and I liked the red herrings. I just felt puzzled with the connections to Kade. I think in this instance, the romance is much stronger than the suspense aspect and I enjoyed it. This is a good start to a series which I'm going to guess revolves around cowboys and mysteries. I look forward to the next book in this series. There is a certain old world charm to it with men who are masculine and gentlemenly without being condescending. This romantic suspense is recommended to readers who like strong female leads and rugged cowboy love interests.

No one does romantic thrillers filled with action, suspense, mystery, murder, twists & turns and romance like Kat Martin!! This is the beginning of a new series & it was fabulous!! I loved Kade Logan & Ellie Bowman along with the rest of the characters introduced!! Kade is investigating the death of his wife Heather & he hires Ellie, a private investigator for Night Hawk Security. She goes undercover as a cook at his ranch, the Diamond Bar Ranch to investigate the murder. While there, someone is after Kade & causing trouble at the ranch. She’s now investigating both the murder & the incidents at the ranch, all the while Kade & Ellie are fighting their attraction to each other. They both have their own issues to deal with as they were both married to cheaters but they get their HEA amongst the danger surrounding them. You will be hooked from the first page & will be trying to figure out who the murderer is and who is causing the problems at the ranch. Just an amazing book & I can’t wait to read the next one!! I received an arc from Netgalley and the publisher for an honest review.

Thank you Kensington Books, Kat Martin, and Netgalley for this ARC.

The Last Goodnight tells the story of Kade Logan, a rancher trying to solve the murder of his wife. The trail has gone cold since the murder occurred eight years ago and he decides to enlist the help of a PI, Ellie Bowman. Along he way Kade falls for the PI while getting tangled in a web of murder and deceit.

I’ve been reading Kat Martin books for many years. Of her the genres she writes, romantic suspense is one of my favorites. I did find this book a bit lack luster compared to her other books. I found that Kade had very antiquated views and that the instant attraction between him and Ellie didn’t sit right with me. The mystery aspect was more enjoyable.

This book has set the stage by introducing us to many characters who I’m sure we will be seeing more of as the series continues.

This is a romantic crime mystery portrayed on a modern day cowboy cattle ranch, the Diamond Bar, in Coffee Springs, Colorado. The breathtaking  beauty and bitter cold of the mountains is the setting for a string of seemingly unconnected occurrences on the ranch. I've vacationed in Colo. many times and the author's vivid descriptions made me want to visit again.
The drop-dead gorgeous Kade Logan owns the ranch. His wife, Heather, was murdered 8 yrs. ago, her killer never identified. She cheated on Kade repeatedly, but he's never given up finding her killer. Her missing car has just been pulled from a lake, so he decides to hire another private investigator to look into the case, again.
He didn't anticipate the petite, beautiful woman, Eleanor Bowman (Ellie), to be Nighthawk Security's recommendation. Ellie is a strong, stubborn, independent woman.
Ellie goes undercover as a temporary cook at the ranch. To find the killer, she's gathering background on both the ranch employees and the townsfolk. The ensuing events at the ranch almost sidetracks her from the original case. There's cattle being targeted by a sniper, an explosion at the mine Kade leases out to a big international conglomerate, and more murders. Another woman is murdered with haunting similarity to Heather. Nonstop action!
Amidst all the criminal drama, the chemistry sparks hot and cold between Kade and Ellie. It's simmering, brooding, sultry, jealously unbridled passion, and sometimes graphically sexy.
Kat Martin is an author I have not read before but wanted to. I had several of her titles on my wishlist. The Last Goodnight is first in a new series, Blood Ties, and I can't wait for the next one.
Thank you to Netgalley, Kensington Publishing Corp., and Kat Martin for the advance digital copy. I truly enjoyed reading it!
This review is my honest, personal and voluntary opinion.

🌟🌟🌟 3/5 stars

The Last Goodnight is a romantic thriller about a man trying to solve the murder of his estranged wife. He hires a private investigator to help him and ends up falling for her in the process.

Romantic suspense is my favorite genre, so I was very excited to read a story by a new-to-me author. Unfortunately, this one didn’t quite live up to my expectations. The mystery was great, but the romance didn’t work for me. It was very insta-love, so I never completely bought into Kade and Ellie’s relationship. That being said, the mystery was very well done and I was constantly trying to guess the killer’s identity.

Although this one was not my favorite, I am still interested in checking out Kat Martin’s backlist books!

ARC was provided by the publisher via Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.

Amazing! What a fantastic start to a new series.
Ellie is a private investigator, part of team named Nighthawk.
She is assigned to Kade, to help discover who murdered his wife 8 years ago !
Both of these characters have been unlucky in love, bad relationships have them trusting no one, Leary of each other … although the attraction is hot!
These are two very strong characters separately and together they are perfect for each other… if only they can put the past behind and trust.

I so enjoyed this book. It had it all romance, murder, mystery, a very hot cowboy ( seriously, what more does a girl need). I can’t wait to read more of this series !

Kade Logan’s estranged wife was killed eight years ago, and the killer was never found. Her car was just found in a lake and this time he’s determined to find out who killed her. He hires Eleanor Bowman to find out. She will leave no stone unturned to solve the case which means she has to go undercover at the ranch as the new cook. Ellie is also determined not to fall in love with her employer who reminds her of her ex.
Old scandals are revisited, and new violence is erupting at the ranch. Another dead woman is discovered. Is it the same killer? The closer to the truth they get the higher the stakes. Kade is determined to keep Ellie safe and find the killer.
A good start to a new series by Kat Martin. Truly enjoyable.

Honestly, it was a struggle to find anything that wasn't horrifically misogynistic, a bad attempt at representation, or just plain boring in this book. I nearly DNF'd this book many times. There is little reason for them not to be together - except the hero's possessiveness that literally involves him punching people and more than once being aggressive with her... the female lead had the potential to be interesting but by the end, they all just ended up... together without any growth or compromise or reason honestly. The heroine is lowkey badass but I enjoyed her badassery and critical thinking.... except where the hero was concern. And the hero really was the worst though.... wildly misogynistic, needed therapy, and was extremely toxic.

CW: dubious consent, violence, mentions/ threats of rape (by the villain), multiple mentions of cheating
