Kade and Ellie are a terrific team. Kade's ex-wife had been adulterous while they were together, and the local gossips in the town never forgot, and kept the talk going. Kade hadn't had contact with her in the last eight years, then suddenly was told she had been murdered. Enter Ellie, a private investigator. When another woman was murdered they band together to find the killer. Then the tables are turned and Ellie is in the killer's sights. Kat Martin never disappoints. Her characters are real, with depth and emotions and foibles. This is book 1 in her new series, I can't wait for book 2!
I was provided with this copy by NetGalley, in exchange for an unpaid, honest review.
I am a new reader to this author and will definitely read the next book in this series. The main characters were well-defined and the sub-plots introduced added to the complexity of the story. I do think that the story was slightly drawn out and at times I thought there were too many characters. Overall, this was a very good read that kept me engaged until the end.
Six years ago the body of Kade's wife was found, but the killer was never caught. But when her car is finally found at the bottom of a lake more questions come to the surface. Hiring Ellie as a PI intent on figuring out what happened leads Kade down a path he never thought he would ever travel again. But can the killer be located before he kills again? Or will Kade lose Ellie the same way he lost his wife? With so many twists and turns you will not believe where the story takes you this was a fantastic read. Kat Martin has a unique way of drawing the reader directly into the book and latching on tight. I cannot wait to see where the rest of the series goes.
Let me start off by saying that I love Kat Martin. I have been reading her books for years, and have read I think all of her books even her historical books, can't say that I have loved all of her books, probably most of her books, but I did love this one. Elle was a strong heroine who knew what she wanted and wasn't going to settle for less, what I appreciated from her was that she didn't have to be bitchy about it and I liked that. She had been burned before so she knew how it felt and had told herself she would not be put in that predicament again, she would not give another man control over her. Kade, needed someone to find out who had murdered his wife 8 years ago, he was on the verge of divorcing her since she was always cheating on him, so he thought she had left with one of her lovers, but come to find out that she was murdered and they had just found out when they found her vehicle so he want to find out so he can dispense his own brand of justice. The minute he sees Elle he has an attraction and but he could never trust another woman again, Elle will help him find out who this person was, and who is now causing all this conflict on Kade's farm and on his employees and on his land. While there, things are heating up heating up between up, but Kade is going apeshit anytime some guy shows any type of interest in Elle, do to his past, but he has to realize she is not his ex- oh I know I can't tell you more, but grab it, you will Enjoy!
revision...oops remembered that I did not read the last series, so I guess I did not read all of her books, need to remedy that..
Kade Logan is a rancher whose wife was murdered. He hires a private detective, Ellie Bowman, to try to figure out who killed her. Ellie lives undercover at the ranch as the cook. As she begins to uncover suspects, there are new incidents taking place on the ranch and at the nearby mine. This is a fast paced story that held my attention throughout. I can't wait for the next story by this author!
I have voluntarily reviewed a copy of this book that I received from NetGalley. All views expressed are only my honest opinion.
Without a doubt Kat Martin can write; however, this book, although it has a good combination of romance and mystery, has been a bit dull for me, as if it doesn’t completely connect.
I love all of Kat Martin books, and this has become one of my favorites.
Kade Logan owns a successful ranch, but has had some sorrow in his past. When the car his wife was driving the night she disappeared is found, he is determined to find out who killed her and why. He hires a private investigator , Ellie, to come live on the ranch and find answers. But things get a whole lot more complicated when cattle are found dead, someone shoots Kade's dog, and also one of his ranch men. Determined to find answers before anyone else is killed, Ellie and Kade start asking questions and coming up with more pieces to the puzzle. With all the time they spend together, things between then heat up. But Kade and Ellie each have a lot from their pasts they have to get over. The problem is they may not find the right answers before one of them is killed!
Great book. Had suspense, mystery, action and of course romance.
I received an advance copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.
4.5 ★
Mystery, romance, ranching and action, a few traits you’ll be able to find in this new series by Kat Martin. Starting with the finding of the car belonging to rancher owner Kade Logan’s long lost wife, continuing with a series of bad luck episodes, including guns being fired and explosions in a mine; Ellie Bowman’s job as a private investigator to find the truth is going to be a bumpy road full of turns and dead ends. While looking into Kade’s wife's death, she’s going to uncover a few secrets that someone wants to keep buried. Hatred and obsession will follow, along with a string of information that will put Ellie in the crossights of a killer, becoming his new target.
Full of mysteries and twists, this book will keep you up until the long hours, frustrating you alongside Kade and Ellie when a lead turns into a dead end, you’ll feel the nerves and the anticipation, mixed with the need of reading one more chapter before calling it a night. I must say I’d fully enjoyed reading this new series, which promises to be as good as the Maximum Security books.
***Disclaimer: I’ve applied and received this book as an ARC via NetGalley and this is my honest review***
Kat Martin delivers again. Kade Logan’s long missing wife has been found – dead. No longer a person of interest, Kade wants to know what happened to her. He hires private investigator Eleanor Bowman. What follows is vintage Kat Martin. If you enjoy romantic thrillers, this is a book for you. Thank you to Kensington Press and NetGalley for this advance copy. #TheLastGoodnight #NetGalley
The Last Goodnight sets the stage for a new series by Kat Martin. After reading this book all I can say is that I want more. The suspense part of the book was so intricate and well played. I was at a loss at guessing the outcome. That is the sign of a great story. The romance part was also well done. I loved Kade and Ellie and how their relationship played out. It grew and changed throughout the story which I loved. It gave me a chance to really know these two as individuals and as a team. The fact that they were both extremely independent made it fun to see unfold. The supporting characters kept me invested as well. I am so excited to see where this author takes us next. So many potential characters to get their own stories.
This is an entertaining, well-written, steamy, romantic suspense novel. It is a real page turner with likable, engaging characters, murder, intrigue, and mystery. The female protagonist is strong, intelligent, and brave. The male protagonist is a wealthy rancher. The settings are vividly described, the chemistry sizzles, and the ending is happy. I am looking forward to reading the next entry in Ms. Martin's outstanding, new "Blood Ties" series with great anticipation. She never disappoints her readers!
NetGalley and Kensington Books kindly provided me with an ARC of this novel, and this is my honest opinion.
This was a bit disappointing for me. I really like Martins books but this was a bit Boring for me. It lacked the action that I normally see in her books. I felt like the storyline didn't connect like it should have. I will continue to read her books and hopefully the story lines will pick up.
This is a great introduction to a new series by Kat Martin. This is the first book I have read by this author and I was really impressed by it.
At the heart of this story is the great characters that Martin has created. They are all so well fleshed out and more than believable. The mystery is also well crafted and the sense for foreboding and tension palpable at time.
This is an author I plan to read more of.
Many thanks to the author, publisher and netgalley for a chance to read and review this novel.
Ellie is a detective who's been hired by Kade to find his wife's murderer. His wife disappeared 8 years ago but her body was only recently found.. Ellie goes undercover as a cook on Kade's ranch to investigate and develops a relationship with Kade at the same time. Ellie is a skilled detective and soon uncovers more evidence than anyone else has in all the year since the disappearance. The murderer takes notice and suddenly an investigation into an 8 year old crime becomes dangerous. Both Ellie and Kade are interesting people and their romance spices up a suspenseful story. A very good read..
This was an okay read for me. There was a bit too much going on but it seemed to come together well in the end; however, Ellie was kind of a terrible PI - she had her friend Zoey do a bunch of her legwork and most of what she did herself consisted of using Google. I was glad she at least interviewed some people. I also got tired of reading about Ellie's breasts and Kade's sex-addled brain. I liked the setting on the ranch and while the romance was a tad too "insta-lust" for me, I didn't mind it. Although they might have figured out who the killer was a lot sooner if they hadn't spent so much of their time in bed. 3 stars. Recommended for fans of the author and the genre. I think this will get a lot of good feedback. Thanks to NetGalley and Kensington for the DRC in exchange for an honest review.
I got on a murder mystery kick when I started reading/listening to Linda Castillo's Kate Burkholder series a few weeks back. When I saw this was available I knew it was right up my alley and I went through it pretty quick this weekend considering I still spent 10 hours yesterday with my 2 little grandsons! This was my first book by Kat Martin and won't be my last! I added several of hers to my Goodreads list and can't wait to read more.
This was a great murder mystery and sexy romance. Who can resist a rugged cowboy like Kade? I know I sure can't! Private investigator Ellie was wonderful too along with the side characters on the ranch. I would love to see more of Kade's brothers Gage and Edge in the future.
If you enjoy an engaging romance with a mystery to boot, pick up this, you won't be disappointed!
Thank you Netgalley for the opportunity to read and review. All opinions are my own.
What a dramatic thriller.
Kade a ranch owner's wife was murder years ago and just recently her car was found bringing possible evidence into light. But he wants to make sure the killer is found and ask his friend who owns a private investigation company for help.
That help comes in the form a Ellie, a seasoned detective. She's moving to the ranch to get closer to the local and start asking questions.
However it seems the killer isn't going to sit still and let them dig into what happened all those years ago. Shots are fired on the ranch again and again wounding animals and people.
As the investigation moves forward there seem to be more and more questions as to who they are looking for and the heat between Kade and Ellie is getting hotter than a branding iron.
There are twists and incredible action that will keep you reading until the very end which is explosive.
Having read quite a few of Ms. Martin's books, I was really looking forward to reading this book. As always, the characters are interesting and the romance is sizzling. As far as romantic suspense novel goes, anything by this author rates right up there with some of the best. I received an e-book from NetGalley in return for an unbiased review. Thank you Kensington Books.
I received an arc from NetGalley and this is my honest opinion.
Kay Martin has a way in her writing that draws you in and you become invested in all her characters. I thoroughly enjoyed Kade and Ellie’s story.
Kade needs a private investigator to look into his wife’s death. Ellie is the woman assigned to the job. She goes to Kades ranch undercover and the suspense, romance and action begins.
It was great to see how Kade and Ellie connect when solving not only Kades wife’s murder but also the Ranch crimes that begin happening after Heathers car is found.
Great read and great author!
5 stars
Ellie and Kade brought mystery, danger, and some necessary changes to a guy’s thought process with this book. Kade put his foot in it a few times with his assumptions about Ellie, but she was strong enough to provide swift corrections to his erroneous thoughts or words. She also managed to impress just about everyone she met and easily dispelled any worries about her intentions. I found myself really liking her for many reasons. She was smart, charming, able to easily read a room, absolutely not a doormat, and confident enough in her own abilities that she didn’t need Kade to prop her up. She needed him to be a partner. And he truly was, for the most part. But Kade had his own demons to work through, so he made a few mistakes. Don’t get me wrong. He recognized when he said or did wrong, and even if it meant sleeping on it, he was quick to try to make things right. The fact that he would wait until he was sure of his mistakes and how to try to fix them made him feel utterly human, so it was hard to dislike him. And since these two found their way through it all, he must’ve done something right to earn Ellie’s trust and her heart!
This has the potential to be another winner of a series. This author manages to keep me wanting more every time, and this book was no exception. She weaves a wonderfully twisted tale of suspense with surprise thrown in and kept me guessing up to the very end. I can’t wait to see what comes next for this series.
