I loved this book. It is unique, well-written, and definitely makes me want to check out more from Generous. I think the characters are believable (that's a HUGE thing for me) and the journey the MC undertakes, while wild, is entertaining, so very sad, and definitely has moments of humor. I know the author also writes creature features, but I want more like THIS from him. Be sure to check it out.

After getting caught up in a tragic accident, Stephen Barber is eager to move on with his life. Except, the past won't die. Stephen is the target of a century old curse that is slowing transforming him into something unrecognizable. It's up to his wife Moira to piece together the puzzle and save him before it's too late.

Generous writes a quick paced, high tension horror that will have readers glued to the page. Despite Stephen's poor judgement and inexcusable actions revolving around the accident, he exhibits remorse and guilt, casting him as a sympathetic protagonist. The punishment of his actions is harsh, and centers on a mystery a hundred years in the making. His punishment involves a transformation that is unique and thrilling. There are some vivid scenes of violence* related to the backstory of the curse, but the majority of the horror falls in the "weird" category, which makes it a lot of fun to read.

Readers looking for a fast fulfilling horror read with a sympathetic protagonist will love this book!

I was approved to receive an e-Galley ARC of The Walking Son, authored by Eddie Generous, from the publisher The Seventh Terrace, and NetGalley, for review consideration. What follows below is my honest review, freely given.

I rated this novella 4 stars. A biting story about how doing unto others can come back onto you three fold by things that were set in motion generations before your birth, sprinkled abundantly with top-tier body horror; this gets folktale horrorish real quick.

Things diverge from the naturally perceived way of the world pretty early on, once blood has been spilled a thinning of the veils begins to occur. To have my mind split on the groups’ overall guilt pleasantly surprised me; usually I feel strongly one way or the other easily and without backsies. The body horror I mentioned above, it begins to seep into the narrative. There is a later scene involving a bathroom visit, there is screaming and little else; I’m dying to have more details. I know the author could gives them to us if he so chose to, before and after has delicious chilling horror that makes running my fingers down the pages of books almost impossible!

Stephen and Moira are couple goals, this is how my partner better react if I ever have a problem like this arise, I am here for healthy love. Towards the end I did think that how I imagined it would end and how it did end veered off from each other a bit (which happens!), and I am trying to come to grips with my rotten view of life. The Walking Son touches on many things in its novella-length read; sorrow and joy blending to form this bubble to hold the story within it.

Quick, simple read that begins to feel a bit jumbled towards the end. I think my main "problem" with this book is that I never really felt connected to any of the characters.

Author, Eddie Generous is new to me and his writing did not disappoint.
This short story, novella might I say, begins with a bedraggled stranger walking along the roadside. Most unfortunately for the stranger and the intoxicated police chief and lover, they hit and kill an unknown man. What to do???? Well they can’t let their lives be ruined by the death of this no person, so they, get a buddy, Stephen, to bury the body. This guy probably won’t even be missed. After checking for ID on the dead guy, they find a handful old coins. They are already into crime this deep so what can it hurt for each to take a few coins? Have you ever heard of what cones around goes around? By the evening, the coins "change". 5 cents becomes 4 pennies, then 3 pennies and so on. And now the three partners in crime are changing too. Stephen, having the 25 cents piece, has 25 nights to find a solution, so he sets off to learn the story of The Walking Son, and find the solution. His days are numbered and his coins are dwindling and fast!

The content for this horror story was exciting and kept me reading to find the fate of this coverup. I enjoyed the vividness of the descriptive writing concerning the changes in people as well as their emotions in a most tragic situation. Mr. Generous’ story is pretty bizarre, but described so well and has given us something to read that I found to be unique. I’m left wondering how myself personally might evolve if I were in the situation. Probably the same as Stephen.
Thank you NetGalley for allowing me to read and review The Walking Son and thanks to Eddie Generous for this engaging and unique. book.
Now, I’m going to go read it again.

I had to request this book when I saw that it was written by Eddie Generous. I was not disappointed.
A scraggly stranger walking on the roadside is hit and killed by a drunken Police Chief and her lover. The stranger has no ID, plus jobs and marriages are at risk so the obvious solution is to get a buddy (the unfortunate and reluctant Stephen) to help bury the body. The man carried only a handful old coins. Each of the three take a few coins, but night by night the coins "change". 5 cents becomes 4 pennies, then 3 pennies and so on. Our three grave diggers are changing too. Stephen, having the 25 cents piece, has 25 nights to find a solution, so he sets off with his wife Moira to learn the story of The Walking Son, and find the solution....fast. His days are numbered and his coins are dwindling.

This was a fun horror read with unique and vivid imagery. What happens to these 3 people is so bizarre, but described so well. There's a bit towards the end involving Stephen and a suitcase. Picturing this is so funny, freaky and strange. Regarding the straggly, dirty stranger....suffice it to say one should "never judge a book by it's cover" (I write with a little wink). You'll get it joke when you read the book, which you should do.
Thank you #Netgalley for letting me read and review #TheWalkingSon and thanks EddieGenerous for another great book.

Through NetGallery I received a copy of The Walking Son.  I had never read anything by the author Eddie Generous and was glad to have the opportunity.

This turned out to be a quick read and a pleasant distraction.  The story brought to mind sitting around a campfire telling ghost stories. Unfortunately, The Walking Son had all the depth and character development of the same.

Don’t get me wrong, I did enjoy the story but I simply had hoped for more.
