I love Patterson's book and didn't read the first one he wrote with Bill Clinton.
It's an entertaining, gripping and easy read. The plot is tightly knitted and there's plenty of action.
The first chapters were quite slow paced and it took a bit to be hooked.
I enjoyed it but it's less exciting than I was expecting.
It's a political thriller where the villains are so bad, the women are damsels in distress and there's plenty of stereotypes about Muslim and Chines.
I think you have to read it as a sort of political fantasy thriller.
I think that Clinton added some interesting insights on how things work at the White House.
I recommend it if you want an easy and entertaining read.

I'm sorry, this was a did-not-finish for me. Nothing wrong with it for those who like to read about the heroic father taking on the world single-handed to rescue his daughter from the bad guys, but the macho heroics are not my thing. It's an old-fashioned fantasy book for wanna-be heroes, with a few politically correct adjustments thrown in.
Maybe later in the book there might be some sort of epiphany where power recognises it's not about where a person comes from or what religion they are, but about whether they're one of the good guys or not. Books that put all muslims as terrorists and all chinese as violent gang members and all politicians as greedy cheats, women as always needing protection (who are only ever successful thanks to the men in their life)... the list goes on. Balancing it with the odd comment about bucking the stereotype doesn't cut it. I'm afraid.
So, yeah, there is a need for this type of book, like there''s a need for the romantic hero whisking the cinderella out of the backstreets to a place where love and peace and beauty ensures the happy ending. But those books aren't for me either.
So, not the books fault, but a poor choice by me.
The writing is simple and it's easy to read, so I almost kept going/skimming (I used to hate not finishing a book, but I've learned), there're are a lot of books out there more suited to my reading taste, so I stopped. The chapters are short, presumably to keep the attention and suspense. So nothing wrong with it, just not for me.

Loved this book from page one, couldn’t put it down. Great follow up to The President is Missing.
Really recommend both books.

What a super book!
The story was very entertaining and believable. The characters were interesting and well developed. The events unfold at a good pace although I found it a little slow to start with but then it just kept me,
turning the pages!
It's a great and fun read.

Grips you right from the start and if you’re up for the authors usual over the top style then you will really enjoy this read.

Fast paced and easy to read, the premise is excellent and well executed.

An enjoyable book. I hadn't read the first one but I did not feel at a disadvantage. The first quarter of the book is a bit slow with a lot of detail about being President. Once the action starts the book improves - I suspect due to more input by Patterson. President Matt Keating is unbelievably perfect. In fact the book did remind me of the film Independence Day with terrorists rather than aliens even down to Shakespeare quotes on the eve of battle.

Wow, what a rollercoaster ride of emotions this book is! I have read many books by James Patterson and never been disappointed, this one can be added to the list. A great insight into The White House courtesy of Bill Clinton and a thriller penned by Patterson, simply genius. If I could have given it 6 stars I would have!

Words could not express the excitement of being ‘chosen’ to read this. I loved ‘The President is Missing’ by Clinton and Patterson and I’m always enthralled by any story to do with the Whitehouse, presidents, drama etc.

What’s different with these books is the depth of knowledge in the narrative. Yes, Patterson encompasses the structure; how to tell the story well but Clinton really adds the knowledge to life as a president (inside scoop) and this in itself adds to the narrative in a completely different way.

You are no longer predicting when reading this story. Most thrillers, you can guess what’s coming and subconsciously, you prepare yourself for that. But with ‘The President’s Daughter’; the rate of twist and turns really makes you fly through this book. It’s a hefty book as well!

If you're looking for action packed sniper/kidnapping/White House drama then you're in the right place. My heart was in my mouth for most of this book, my emotions were up and down and I kept saying to everyone 'I love this book, I'm drawing it out because I don't want it to end.' Usually, I rush through them!!! Brilliant book, not great for my heart.

I read this immediately after finishing 'Deadly Cross', which is James Patterson's latest 'Alex Cross' novel and a series I adore. I say this because going from that to this was like reading two completely different authors in terms of quality, content and just general readability. I found 'The President's Daughter' to be a predictable, tedious, stilted and awkward read. It felt like more of a cathartic expression of Bill Clinton's fears for his daughter which didn't quite come together as a suspense novel. I'm sure anyone interested in what happens to an ex-president and wants an insight into what goes on behind closed doors might find this extremely interesting, but it was not my cup of tea.

Clinton's insights and presidential experience allied to James Patterson's writing skills combine in this novel to give it both pace, authenticity and cohesion. When the recently retired President's daughter, Melanie, is kidnapped, all hell breaks loose as his now reduced protection team struggle to track down the kidnappers. Ultimately it falls to the "ex-Seal " president and his loyal security guard to take on the dangerous search. Thanks to Melanie's resourcefulness and her father's intuition new trails to follow open up. The chase is now on. It is only the result that is unknown. Gripping, fast-paced and insightful. A thoroughly enjoyable read.

Bill Clinton and James patterson never disappoint! This book is so well writing and a true thriller. It had me gripped from the very start. The writing style, as always, was exquisite. Highly recommend

The President’s Daughter is definitely a taut, authentic portrayal of a father’s conviction to save his daughter. This father just happens to be a one-time Navy Seal and ex-POTUS.

Unfortunately it is Matt Keating’s ex presidential role that made his daughter a target for the world’s most elite terrorist, a terrorist set on vengeance and retribution. And although that presidency and the skills obtained as a navy seal set him in good stead when initiating a counter, it all comes down to his profound love for his daughter that ensures failure is not an option.

The narrative flows brilliantly and the characters are portrayed in a way that you find yourself invested in them. I am not sure how much of a role Bill Clinton played in authoring the novel, but I am certain that at the very least he provides a unique perspective to life as both a president and ex-president.

My first collaboration by these authors and I really enjoyed this wild ride. Half way through I wasn't sure if this would grip me for the second half. I read the first 2 parts super quick then the end of part 2 rocked me. I put this down for a couple of days then came back to it and was gripped again until the end.

I loved the contrast between the two halves and loved the character of Matt Keating. I would love to see another book based on this family and what happens at the next presidential election.

Having loved their first book The President Is Missing (and also The First Lady by Patterson alone) I couldn’t wait to get started on the second book by Patterson and Clinton. And it was just as action packed as the first!

This is another stand alone - it is a different President to the first book.

In this book we follow ex Navy SEAL President Matthew Keating. We are introduced to his administration as he sanctions an attack to kill a terrorist. Unfortunately the terrorist is not is his house but his wife and three daughters are killed. The terrorist calmly plans his revenge on the President.

When his 19 year old daughter is kidnapped 2 years later, Matt the now ex POTUS is forced to take matters into his own hands as he is not getting the support he needs from the current president and sets off on a mission to rescue her.

I was drawn in to this book from the beginning and completely engrossed in the evolving story.

The main characters are, as you would expect from master storyteller James Patterson, very well developed, and written in first person which gives a deeper understanding of their personalities and motives. Matt is a very likeable character who has been stabbed in the back by those he trusted. His own VP is now President, she stood against him and won the election, a woman who has very little integrity when it comes to Matt whom she dislikes and thinks he never deserved to be President.

Mel, the daughter, is a strong willed and able girl who has dealt with her share of bullying because of her looks and saw her boyfriend shot dead right in front of her. She is written with just the right balance of grit and determination (having had gun training and a basic hostage training) but also the tears and frustration of someone who has been kidnapped.

Matt’s wife Samantha plays more of a back seat part in the book having moved away from her family to return to her love of archeology, but boy does she come up with the goods at just the right time!

A full 5 stars from me and I hope there will be a further book!

I was drawn to this book because of the authors, I’ve read James Patterson before and enjoyed his books and I was curious about the input from ex-president Bill Clinton.

I won’t précis the book, you’ll have gleaned that from the book or other reviews. I can’t say I was hooked right from the start, it took me a while to get reeled in, but then reeled in I was! I spent most of today doing nothing but reading!

I love the characters in the book, especially Matt and Mel Keating - what a delightful father and daughter they are. Mel was incredibly brave, fast thinking and cool in circumstances where most of us would have fallen apart and those talents seemed to have been taught to her by her father.

There were shocking parts of the book and surprises and definitely a thrilling end. I would highly recommend it and I will look out for this pair’s first book to read too!

The President’s Daughter by Bill Clinton and James Patterson started slow. Setting the scene, it didn’t pull me in and I put the book down quite a lot in the first few days. Once the characters were established, however, and the action began, I was hooked and lost the next couple of days! Fast paced with plenty of tense action and political intrigue and backstabbing, the best and worst of human motivations were peppered throughout the storyline. Matt Keating comes across as a man of integrity and action. David Stahl and Claire were my definite favourites. David’s behind-the-scenes tutoring of Mel and Claire’s quirky competence really enriched the storyline. Definitely a good action read in true Patterson style. Five stars

You know what you are getting with James. Patterson. An easy read lots of fun but nothing that sets you in fire. That being said it’s one of his better ones. Hopefully die to the collaborative write. Would be a great holiday read if we can ever get in a beach again.

Matt Keating becomes President of the United States when man to whom he is vice-president dies suddenly. Then the women he chooses as his vice-president works behind his back to have their party dump him at the next election. During his presidency a raid in Libya led to the death of the wife and daughters of a notorious terrorist. Revenge is the order of the day and Keating’s daughter Mel is abducted. That is only just the plot getting started! It moves on from surprise revelation to surprise revelations. The involvement of Bill Clinton ensures a real feel for what goes on in US politics and there many comments that could only come from his background, such as the reference to the disloyalty of your former supporters once you have left office! The book gives the feeling of very detailed research and is well written. To a certain extent there is not a lot unexpected in the storyline as terrorism and it’s ramifications are familiar. It would also have been better if it had been shorter!

My usual choice of reading does not include thrillers such as The President’s Daughter, but of course I was tempted by the thought of reading a novel with a clear political component contributed to by Bill Clinton. If you are like me, make sure that on this occasion you too are tempted. The President’s Daughter is an excellent read: it is well plotted; features nuanced and broad ranging political elements; gives women agency; and has a riveting major story line, with thoughtful sub plots.

The novel begins with three detailed stories over several short chapters. An attempt to kill a terrorist leader; a social function at the Chinese Embassy in Tripoli; and the White House Situation Room. Further background is then rolled out. The White House is currently held by President Matthew Keating. His Vice President, Pamela Barnes and her husband, Richard are also introduced, as are their aspirations. Further information is provided about the terrorist leader, his operations, and aspirations.

These early vignettes of the characters who will become major players in the remainder of the novel are a hoard of meticulously accumulated information that will provide much of the backbone of the narrative. Although further details are layered in the forthcoming chapters, these early impressions are valuable, providing political and personal insights into the characters who will provide much of the action and understanding of the main story line as well as their own subplots. On Inauguration Day Samantha and Melanie Keating are introduced, almost completing the cast of major characters who will drive the narrative.

As the drama takes another turn, Secret Service agents, staff members, political appointees and officials become part of the story. They also become familiar, through well-chosen allusions to past events, brief but telling descriptions of their behaviour, positions in relation to the major characters, and the action and positions they adopt as the major plot line unfolds.

As well as the gruesome events attendant on a thriller such as this; there are moments of warmth and affection; a lovely, pointed feminist comment early in the narrative as well as women having agency; and twists and turns that momentarily bring optimism, before plunging the reader into doubt, tension, and fear. The novel surges along, but cleverly embraces the early characters and the complexity of their roles, bringing them together in a well-developed and nuanced conclusion. Temptation is not always well rewarded. In this case it was. I thoroughly enjoyed this novel – more than enjoyed, I liked the writing, thought the plotting was excellent, and was impressed by the characterisation. A good thriller, and more.
