This keenly anticipated sequel does not disappoint. In fact, it exceeds expectations. I loved the first book, but for me this one is better. This all bodes well for the third instalment!

The friendship and the interaction between the four main characters is absolutely terrific and it felt so real. You can tell that Osman really enjoys developing these characters and creating the intrigue they are involved with. It is refreshing to have a crime series that features older characters. They use their years of experience to figure out how to assist the authorities and ultimately solve the crime.

“Nothing you’ll ever see on the news, but something you should really pay more attention to, just the gentle hum of contentment.”

The storyline and its development is cleverly written and the dialogue is witty. I particularly look forward to Joyce’s diary entry. They are written in such a way that I can hear Joyce’s voice in my head.
Although this book works as a standalone, I would suggest reading the books in order, to aid with character development.

All in all a very well written and entertaining crime series, with no ‘difficult’ topics for readers to tackle, apart from the few dead bodies that is! I’d highly recommend this book to any reader who enjoys character-driven crime with a humorous edge. It’s a delightful and engrossing read.

Was there any doubt that Richard Osman's second book in the Thursday Murder Club series would be a huge hit? The Thursday Murder Club was immensely entertaining and introduced readers to Osman's witty style but the second book is even better. We return to Coopers Chase, a retirement village in the British countryside, which is home to former spy Elizabeth, retired nurse Joyce, psychiatrist Ibrahim, and activist Ron. They make up the Thursday Murder Club, a group that meets to investigate unsolved murders along with Donna and Chris, members of the local police force.

A particularly satisfying aspect of the book is the way Osman brings together various strands towards the end in an impressive denouement. At the start of this instalment, Elizabeth discovers that her ex-husband is involved in a covert operation that went wrong and he needs her help. Closer to home, Ibrahim is mugged and seriously injured whilst in the seaside town of Fairhaven. Meanwhile, Donna and Chris are trying to bring down a local drug queenpin. What makes Osman's books different is their wittiness but also their heart. Because, although the main characters work outside the law to come up with elaborate plans to solve the crimes the police can't, they are also constantly concerned about their own health and about each others'. So, although they often seem inhumanly tough, they are also incredibly vulnerable and ordinary and, in my opinion, this is why so many readers, myself included, are fascinated with these characters.

This book, in my opinion, was better than the last. I really liked how we were able to find out more about each of the characters and their "past lives". I think that the twists and turns were engaging, but also somewhat predictable. I am not entirely opposed to being able to predict twists because I think that's part of the fun of mysteries. I think my favorite character was definitely the grandson of I think Ibrahim (I had the audiobook so I am not 100% sure about spelling).

This book was glorious. I loved the first and was worried the sequel wouldn’t measure up. I needn’t have worried. It was a treat from first page to last and was possibly better because I already know and love the characters. I can’t wait for the next one.

The Man Who Died Twice by Richard Osman is just absolutely brilliant. I fell in love with the characters a little more and the mystery didn't disappoint! Once again the humour was bang on and the cherry on the top is that there’s another one coming…. more pure escapism and a real tonic. Can't wait for the next one!

As warm and hilarious as the first. Osman continues to show his unique voice and vivid characters. To enjoy over yet another cup of tea - thrilling.

This book was so much more enjoyable and personable than the first one (which, granted, I did thoroughly enjoy, but felt was a little slow to get going). I felt like I knew the characters that much better, so there was no character building or establishing that needed to happen. This book was just solid plot, and so much more twisty and challenging than the first book.

It was a complete and utter joy to be reunited with all the characters I loved from the first book; Elizabeth, Ron, Ibrahim and Joyce are just as wonderfully charming and funny as I found them to be before, but somehow improved and more solid than they were previously. Joyce especially had a much more secure role in this book, and there were some real laugh out loud moments in her diary entries that are so upbeat and complimentary, even in the presence of a corpse. Her narration contributes the biggest laughs in my opinion, and provides a nice contrast to the capers of the others as they solve their latest mystery.

I thoroughly enjoyed Richard Osman's first novel The Thursday Murder Club and am always a little dubious of follow up novels that are just not quite as good. No problem here as The Man Who Died Twice is as good, if not better than it's predecessor.

I really like the way the author writes. He seems such a genuinely nice chap when seeing him on TV and his charm and wit fall off every page.

An excellent read - am really looking forward to reading more.

Thanks to Netgalley for a copy of this book for an honest review.

I've been waiting for ages for The Thursday Murder Club book from the library and am still waiting. So I decided to read this anyway. At first I wasn't sure what all the fuss was about but then I got sucked into the world of Elizabeth, Joyce, Ibrahim and Ron and what a delightful world that is.

I requested 𝑻𝒉𝒆 𝒎𝒂𝒏 𝒘𝒉𝒐 𝒅𝒊𝒆𝒅 𝒕𝒘𝒊𝒄𝒆 𝒃𝒚 𝑹𝒊𝒄𝒉𝒂𝒓𝒅 𝑶𝒔𝒎𝒂𝒏 because of the hype from the Thursday's murder club (incidentally I never got a chance to read that one yet 🙈). The author really lived upto the hype!!

Written with 4 elderly lead characters, the book is intriguing crime fiction from start. Bodies pile up and the action never stops keeping readers engaged till the end.

Elizabeth ( retired operative), Joyce (nurse), Ibrahim (psychiatrist) and Ron (leader) make the murder club interesting with their unique skill set. They unravel the mystery in witty and fun chapters. I did feel the drag in some places but I would surely recommend it.

I would like to thank Net Galley for the opportunity to read this book.

I was very pleased when I was accepted to read this book. I really enjoyed Mr Osman’s first book featuring the Thursday Murder Club. The characters are delightful - group of over 70s staying in a retirement complex, their police friends and a few others introduced into each book. The chapters are written from the perspective of the different characters and some of their thoughts are so funny! I suppose the story is a bit implausible, but there is a bit of suspense so thriller lovers won’t be disappointed.

What can I say that hasnt already been said- Richard Osman has done it again! If you, like nearly everyone I spoke to, loved the first Coopers Chase mystery story, look no further, here's another to whet your appetite and fill your boots. The same faces are back investigating murders, the murky underworld and more. A treat of a book - enjoy it!

I know what I'm getting the readers in my family for Christmas! I hadn't read the Thursday Murder Club but I absolutely devoured this book - I just about put it down for enough time to prep for the job interview I had the next day but then finished it off at high speed. Excited to carry on reading more extracts from Joyce's diary in the third book.

It's rare for a sequel to be just as good - if not even better - than the original book, however I feel 'The Man Who Died Twice' has achieved this. As much as I enjoyed 'The Thursday Murder Club', I loved this book even more!

We are reacquainted with our four friends Elizabeth, Joyce, Ron and Ibrahim and a new mystery to be solved by the intrepid four. Once again, Richard does a wonderful job with frothy dialogue and sparkling wit which will have the reader hooked up to the end. Richard is also the master of developing realistic and lovable characters who will make you chuckle to yourself or even laugh out loud at times.

If you can, I highly recommend you purchase the audiobook for this book, I promise it'd be worth it. Lesley Manville's narration is the cherry on top of the cake. I can never get tired of listening to her - the way she gives a separate identity to each character is sublime.

Thank you to Negalley and the publisher for an advanced e-copy of this book in exchange for an impartial and honest review.

Having read the first of richards books I knew it would be a good read and it was. Dry and witty and enjoyable from start to end. A really good murder mystery novel. Would recommend

Another great book by Mr Osman. I did not fall in love with the first one but I think with the second one I am falling in love with the characters. The story line is great and the characters are engaging. Great book.

This book was a breath of fresh air and really was as good as the first book. It had that same dry and witty humour that made the first one so enjoyable, the characters were fun and likeable, and the crime had enough twists and turns to be truly enjoyable.

Another must read!

As much as I have enjoyed Thursday murder club book , it goes above and beyond it. It's so intricately woven story that is equally humourous , suspenseful , and yes mysterious too. The book from the start to the end was a nail biting thriller. The main characters are the same and they maintain the same vigour in solving te cases. The plot was mind blowing. Just can't wait for the next book.

Recommendation: Would highly recommend it to the mystery, crime, thriller and humour genre(s) fans. Ofcourse the Thursday murder club fans.
