What a fun read! I absolutely love it! I found myself giggling away at the antics of the golden oldies aka the Thursday murder club. For some reason, I never got to read the first one but I can honestly say I don't feel I missed out on anything. I would so like to be like this bunch when I get to that age! My favourite character is definitely Joyce. She seems so scatterbrained and innocent but underneath is a sharp and at times cunning mind.

Who is Marcus Carmichael and why is he back from the dead. Now he wants to meet Elizabeth and have a chat over a glass of wine. An invitation from a dead man....... Or is he...Let the fun begin. Soon we have dead bodies left, right and centre. We have missing diamonds, we have drugs and a wild goose chase to see who can get to the diamonds first. We also have a very clever eight-year-old who outsmarts the gang by picking up on a vital clue.

My favourite line in the book is:
"Some people in life, Sue, are weather forecasters, whereas other people are the weather itself".......... Where do you think you fit in?

These books will make such a wonderful TV series and I'm already thinking of my dream cast!

Richard Osman returns to give us a follow up book. Not as outstanding as the first but very enjoyable read. I personally can’t wait for the film to come out for the first so I can see the characters brought to life. It’s great to see Richard getting the recognition of an author.

It was so good being back with the members of the Thursday Murder Club and I think I actually enjoyed this more than the previous book. Knowing their backgrounds already made it seem much more easy to dive in.

A wonderfully witty and exciting sequel that surpasses the comical crime antics of the first book. What a delight to be reacquainted with The Thursday Murder Club tribe from the quaint retirement community of Coopers Chase. BOOK one introduced us to the beloved septuagenarian gang of would-be detectives; and now that the scenes and characters have been established, Osman gives us a full throttle mystery with book two. Elizabeth, a former MI5 operative, Joyce a former nurse, Ibrahim an ex psychiatrist and Ron and ex union leader come together once again in this pact crime mystery. Ibrahim is embroiled in a violent mugging by local thugs and left badly injured. The friends seek vengeance. Meanwhile, a blast from Elizabeth's past, surfaces requesting help as a matter of life and death. The crazy capers see the gang chasing down 20million pounds worth of stolen diamonds, facing of the New York mafia and Columbian drug lords. Elizabeth drafts in trusty cops Chris and Donna. No one hurts the TMC and escapes! Throw in a growing pile of corpses, lots of laugh aloud antics and more twists than a French Braid and we have another cracking mystery.
Book number 3 is already in the pipeline and after this twisty comical caper, I for one cannot wait!

I was a little disappointed by the first in the series, THE THURSDAY MURDER CLUB. It felt very contrived and reminded me of an old sitcom called Waiting For God. I was half expecting a dippy son and his alcoholic, ditzy wife to turn up!
The second instalment however, is much more succinct. The characters come through strongly as in the first one but it pushes the boundaries of reality a little as did the first. I think Osman has created a new genre here. You have heard of chick lit, hen lit and now broiler lit. I can't see that the book is aimed at young people and with people living longer he seems to have catered for the increasing retirement and post-retirement generation. There are a couple of token 'young people,' (Donna and Poppy) and even a child but it is very much pensioner dominated.
If the book takes off among this audience we could see amateur sleuths up and down the country working out of retirement complexes. It would save a bit of money on policing if nothing else.

This is the perfect follow up to The Thursday Murder Club and I loved being reunited with the gang (especially Joyce!) for another crime-solving adventure. The plot is outstanding as usual, full of action but also charm, warmth and wit. An absolute cracking read!

Having read this one straight after The Thursday Murder Club, I feel like I have spent a most lovely holiday with the Coopers Chase gang. At this point it’s hard to believe they aren’t real people!

As the awesome foursome are just getting back into the routine of their retirement (including baking, crosswords and solving murders on a Thursday), Elizabeth is visited by a mysterious character from her past, who’s got into a spot of bother and needs her help. She, obviously, drafts in her friends for a spot of fun on the ride.

This time the adventure has even higher stakes, as we see our sleuths dicing with spies, diamond thieves, drug lords and even the mafia. It’s completely fantastical but I’m totally willing to suspend my disbelief when the excitement and peril are dialled all the way up to 11!

Again, the plot is so clever and, just like the first novel, the clues and misdirection will keep you puzzling it out until the final chapters. The various rich subplots are woven deftly through the narrative too. Joyce’s new Instagram adds a whole new range of comedic possibility and, on the other hand, an upsetting incident reminds us that there is a vulnerability to getting older.

I love the way we learn more about the gang, making them feel even more like old friends. These characters are strong and witty and vibrant and though they’re in their 80s they’re certainly full of life. The supporting cast are also really well developed. It’s great to learn more about Donna, Chris, Stephen and Bogdan. I also loved Kendrick, Ron’s 8 year old grandson. It was lovely to see his interaction with Ibrahim, reminding us that friendship can easily cross the generations.

This is definitely another 5 star read. It’s witty cosy crime at its finest. I’m already looking forward to meeting my friends again in the third instalment.

Back to Coopers Chase for a glass of wne with old friends. I enjoyed this book better that the first one, I found it more engaging and entertaining A cosy mystery with the fab four, a great read, couldnt put it down,

This was such a fun read, with some emotional undertones. We learned more of the background of Elizabeth in this book - she has had such a fascinating life. The group of friends are still going strong with their Thursday Murder Club and when Elizabeth's ex-husband appears on the scene, the bodies start piling up. Will Elizabeth and her intrepid sidekick solve this case - and is it linked to the attack on Ibrahim? We see a soft side to Ron and I loved his friendship with Ibrahim. Joyce is hilarious - I felt this was a great sequel and better than the original. What capers!! #netgalley #themanwhodiedtwice

Warm, funny and gripping, a great sequel to the hugely successful Thursday Murder Club - enjoyable and sad in parts, I loved learning more about these senior citizens and look forward to the next instalment - where do I sign up to join!

Not much to say really other than I loved the book from start to finish. It was great to be in the hands of the Coopers Chase gang again. Elizabeth is still intrepid and the others, Ron, Joyce and Ibrahim just follow on. The story is about an ex husband of Elizabeth’s (Douglas), 20 million pounds worth of diamonds stolen from the Mafia. They get together as in the previous book to solve the crime and find out what happened to Douglas. Is he dead or isn’t he? The story carries on with the local police being involved, Hudson and De Freitas, even though they would really rather stay out of the drama. There is in this book romance, a possible romance in the pipe line and an accident which leaves one of our sleuths traumatized and lovely Bogdan is here again, kind and very helpful playing chess with Elizabeth’s husband who has dementia. I enjoyed all the characters who were in this book. The thing that made me chuckle the most and there are many chuckles is Elizabeth’s line when talking her way out of trouble with a spook “there are many rooms in my palace but some are a little dusty” – priceless and one I feel I am old enough to use often. Thank you Richard Osman for that, my new catchphrase

This was such a great read. You don't have to have read the first one but I think it helps if you have because part of its joy is returning to the characters we've come to know and love, with all their quirks. I found myself smiling at the thought of rejoining them. This time we're straight into the story and what a tale it is. Very involved, very engrossing and yet mainly it's just fun watching them trying to figure it - and each other - out. I thoroughly enjoyed it and will be recommending it to everyone I know!

Once again Osman hits the nail on the head with a fun murder mystery. I loved the first book and its unique take on a fun mystery. Book two brings the old gang back again to investigate some new cases and its just as fun and wholesome as the first book with these 4 lovable characters! You're kept on the edge of your seat from the get go as more and more of the mystery unfolds.

Osman has a way of bringing his own comedy into these books and it for sure stands out when you're reading it. With humorous moments of levity and some sadder ones this is a book you will fly through. If you were a fan of the first you're bound to love this one, if you haven't experienced an Osman novel yet i highly recommend and if you want something new and different with a little bit of the Miss Marple-esque mystery then PLEASE pick up this book!

I'll say this to sum it up. Moral of the story - never underestimate someone because they're 'old'!

The Man Who Died Twice is Richards Osman’s fantastic sequel to his debut novel about The Thursday Murder Club. The first book needed time to introduce and develop the characters and this slowed it somewhat but boy did that allow this one to take off at a good pace and maintain the momentum. With serious crimes and credible local (and international) criminals, the group uses their combined skills, resources and experience to assist in solving fraud, murder and vicious assault. The title is clever and the ending ties the meaning up very nicely, if somewhat poignantly. An excellent (and improved) follow on which has whet my appetite for more of Elizabeth, Joyce, Ibraham, Ron and Bogdan but I now am also hooked on Donna Chris and Patrice’s stories too. I loved it! Keep writing Richard. Four and a half stars

Once I got into the setting and the characters, I enjoyed this book (having not read the first book in this series)
Good plot lines throughout and interesting development of characters and their roles in the story.
I found myself wanting to know how it finished. Always a good thing in a detective story. Different. A mix of old and new styles.

And we’re back with another instalment of Joyce, Elizabeth, Ron and Ibrahim aka the Thursday Murder Club.

This sequel leads on from The Thursday Murder Club where our elderly protagonists have well and truly found their calling in solving crimes. Although we still have each characters point of view, we learn more about Elizabeth and her past which was so interesting as far as the characters development go.

Might be a controversial opinion, but I enjoyed reading this book more than the first! I think maybe as I’m already attached to the characters it was super easy to get straight back into the new narrative.

This is was a charming, easy read. And very much the contemporary mystery I was hoping it to be.

This second book by Richard Osman is even better than his first. Now we have an understanding of the main characters from the previous book, this book continues to build on that and we are set a challenge with another mystery.

The book had me hooked from the beginning. So many twists and turns, so many incorrect guesses of the ending as I read it. All the story threads tied up so perfectly in the end. There is nothing at all to dislike about the story.

Elizabeth and the rest of club are such fantastically written characters and all play off each other so well, each of them integral to the story. The relationship between Chris, Donna and the club is so sweet and I love how it’s developed from the first book.

I hope there are many more outings for them, and to see what happens between Donna and Bogden.

Last year I absolutely adored The Thursday Murder Club so the bar was pretty high, but The Man Who Died Twice was even better! I’d be surprised if it didn’t make my favorites list at the end of the year.

All our favorite seniors (and not so seniors) are back to investigate murders, robberies and assaults while giving away charm by the bucket. Cause if there’s one word to describe this series to perfection is CHARM.

I love, love, love each and every single character in this series. Even the villains are likeable! Now that we know Joyce, Elizabeth, Ibrahim and Ron we just have to sit back and enjoy their friendship, endeavors and antics to solve crime. And they’re quite resourceful! I love how each of them has a different skill set making them such a tight and diverse group. All the supporting cast, Donna, Chris, Bogdan… are also back and I adore how their love and respect for all the main characters show in all their interactions.

I love a good murder mystery and if it’s laced with heavy doses of humor even better. There are several laugh out loud moments even during the most tense scenes. Some situations and conversations border the absurd and I just f*cking loved it.! I knot that’s not for everyone but IT IS FOR ME!

We’re thrown several red-herrings that make so much sense that it comes a moment when you just don’t know what to believe. My detective skills were put to work! The resolution was really satisfying and managed to give away surprises even in the last pages.

Now I just have a question…when is Book 3 coming out? I NEED IT NOW!

PD: The author says in the acknowledgments that his US publisher told him he could not call the book “The Following Thursday” and that she was right. It’s funny cause that’s exactly what it is called in the Spanish edition, “El jueves siguiente”! They might have missed the memo. 😂

It was an absolute pleasure to be back with the old gang, they really are heart-meltingly lovely. This is cosy crime at its very best, with characters that are a joy to read (my favourite changed chapter to chapter), I giggled away so many times. The story itself is throughly entertaining too not just the main tale but all the little interwoven details.

I really hope there is more to come from @misterosman with these 4 & their extended Thursday Murder Club friends as the ending has definitelyleft me wanting more.
