I was thrilled to be back in Blossom Valley with Winnie and her granny. Fall festival season is in full swing. Winnie heads over to Mr. Potter's pumpkin farm for supplies. After leaving she is shocked to find Mr. Potter dead under a tarp in the back of her truck. The sheriff is not happy that Winnie is investigating another murder especially when the murderer is now after her. Add in a surprise character and this book was wonderfully enjoyable. I look forward to the next in the series!

The Cider Shop Rules by Julie Anne Lindsey
Book #3: Cider Shop Mystery Series
Source: NetGalley, Kensington, and Purchase
Rating: 4/5 stars

The Bottom Line: The Blue Ridge Mountain region is never more beautiful than in the fall when all the leaves change, there’s a nip in the air, and the residents of Blossom Valley are bringing their best to the Fall Festival. The atmosphere is crackling with excitement as the Civil War reenactors gear up for their annual tribute to John Brown. The valley is filled to the brim with residents and visitors alike which means it is also the perfect time for a new mystery for Winnie to solve.

When Winnie (and half the town) discovers the body of old Mr. Potter in the bed of Winnie’s truck, it becomes a race to find the guilty party before more bodies begin appearing. As if one crime weren’t enough, Winnie also discovers the fugitive who has threatened she and the sheriff is back in town and looking to settle old scores. Helping Winnie is her usual cast of characters and one special guest, the sheriff’s hot as sin brother who is in town for the Fall Festival. Winnie’s sleuthing skills, her patience, and her crush on the sheriff are all put to the test in this read and it is a delightful ride from beginning to end. Oh, and the goat faints . . . again 😊

I absolutely adore this series and this book is just as good if not better than the first two!!

If you love small town drama, awkward romance, and solving crimes, these books are for you.

Blue Ridge Mountains are beautiful this time of year with the fall foliage in full bloom. Jacob Potter’s pumpkin farm is the sight of Civil War reenactors having a tribute to John Brown.
Families are there enjoying themselves buying pumpkins and watching piglet races none of them expecting the pumpkin farm will soon be a crime scene with the well liked and popular farm owner being murdered and found in the back of Winnie's pickup truck.
With the list of suspects longer than the pumpkin vines it's up to Winnie to clear her name.
Fun seasonal read that I enjoyed, recommended.

Overall I really enjoy the series. Once again Winnie discovers a body and sets out to solve the murder and drives the local sheriff nuts. She finds herself in danger again and he comes to her rescue. In this book we meet more of Sheriff Colton's family and their relationship is finally moving slowly for word. I really enjoy the Apple Orchard and the small town West Virginia setting. The characters are a lot of fun and there are also new animals to join the group. In this one the mystery was easy to solve. The book is still a lot of fun and will make a enjoyable fall read.

The Cider Shop Rules is the third book in the Cider Shop Mystery series. When Winnie discovers the body of a beloved community member in the back of her truck, she cannot help but investigate.

I enjoyed the book, but was frustrated by how the relationship is playing out between Winnie and Colton. I kept wanting to yell at them to just talk to each other. The mystery kept me guessing and I was very surprised at the end.

Thank you to the publisher and to Net Galley for providing me with an ARC in exchange for my honest review.

Princess Fuzzypants here: There is a fine line that cozy writers must walk if they want their heroine to get into deep danger. If the heroine qualifies for a nomination for the Darwin Award, I end up almost screaming at the page. It is so frustrating to have someone who does such boneheaded things. But, we do want our heroine to experience danger and suspense. To be able to navigate that line well and do it consistently is an art. Winnie walks it with ease.

She is a plucky, strong and smart woman who does manage to get herself into some very dicey situation but I have never felt she was being foolhardy. Her will they/won’t they relationship with cop Colton does not stop him from saving her life a number of times. Things are going to become more resolved thanks to the appearance of his brother and parents. Good thing Colton’s brother is also a cop. Winnie and Colton are going need help to stave off two murderous stalkers. One killed a local farmer and stowed the body in Winnie’s truck. The other is the long time nemesis who knows the best way to hurt Colton is through Winnie and he is out for blood.

Lots of excitement with a riveting story, the pace never let up. The characters are the kind of people with whom the reader can enjoy spending time. I know I did. Five purrs and two paws up.

"The Cider Shop Rules" by Julie Anne Lindsey is the third book in the Cider Shop Mystery series. This installment is a very cozy, atmospheric read perfect as the weather transitions into fall. I appreciate the continuity throughout the series as relationships and Winnie's business develops. "The Cider Shop Rules" could be read on its own.

The Cider Shop Rules was another fun read that is nice for the fall time.

This one starts off right with Mr.Potter being found dead in the back of Winnie's truck under a tarp. So obviously because of that Winnie will be doing her own investigating along with the Sheriff doing his own as well. And we all know how Winnie's investigations end up going, and this time the situations that she got into seemed a little bit more dangerous than they had in previous books.
With the Sheriff having someone in his past also trying to hurt them alongside them trying to figure out what happened to Mr. Potter this book took a lot of twists and turns, some you can see coming and other ones were a surprise. We also got to see the Sheriff's family and learn a little bit about him which was interesting because he is always such a mystery because he provides next to no information about himself.

Overall I am still liking and enjoying this series. Winnie in this one we see being almost done getting her business degree, and we get to see her business expanding! Alongside that, we also got to see Winnie and Dot and their investigating adventures and Hank was even involved in some of the investigations by helping Winnie with things. The Sheriff's family was very entertaining especially the brother who was helping both the Sheriff and Winnie with things alongside being in town for the re-enactment. Was not expecting this book to end the way it did, but it made me like it even more. I like when I can't always figure it out and for it to be a nice mystery with good side stories as well.

It does appear that we will be getting a fourth book because the ending of this one set us up with a new mystery person to figure out who they actually are. I Can't believe we have to wait a whole year for it!

Blossom Valley is in the middle of their Fall Festival, corn mazes, apple cider and civil war reenactments are all part of the festivities. Jacob Potter's pumpkin farm is a huge draw with hay rides, piglet races, pumpkin picking and a corn maze enjoyed by locals and tourists. When Winnie arrives from picking up supplies and decorations at the farm, she and everyone else are shocked to find Jacob's dead body wrapped in a tarp in the back of her truck. Who put him there? Who wanted to harm this man? Can Winnie help solve the crime?

Winnie is a great character. She moved back to her grandmother's apple farm to help her keep from losing it. She is very caring of everyone in the town and when a young man is in danger of losing his job due to the death, she does what she can to help him and his mother. People like Winnie, so they tell her things. She is also smart and is able to put facts together to solve puzzles, just not quite in time. I enjoyed this mystery story. There is a bit of quirkiness that I enjoy, some good characters, a developing romance, and a good mystery. I thought I had the culprit figured out and I did, but is was enjoyable to see how Winnie and the others solved the case as well as to see what the motive was. Although this is the third book in the series, you can read it as a standalone, but I have enjoyed all the books in this series and certainly recommend you start at the beginning to get to know the characters and their stories.

The Cider Shop Rules is book three in the A Cider Shop Mystery series by Julie Anne Lindsey. It can be read as a stand alone.
This is a great series full of plot twists and suspects. The main characters, Winnie and Granny, are relatable and loveable. Ms. Lindsey will have you feeling as if you are in Blossom Valley.. You also have romance, family, friendship and humor. Winnie's pets also add to the story.
I was given an ARC from Kensington via NetGalley for an honest review.

The Cider Shop Rules: A Cider Shop Mystery Book 3
By Julie Anne Lindsey
Kensington
August 2021

Review by Cynthia Chow

Winona Mae Montgomery is thrilled to be celebrating her first year after opening Granny Smythe’s Cider Shop on her family’s Smythe Orchard 25-acre farm. The fall season is a highlight for Blossom Valley, West Virginia, which begins the holiday season with the Fall Harvest Festival full of hayrides, piglet races, pumpkin picking, and a corn maze. Visiting Potter’s Pumpkin Patch is an annual tradition, but when Winnie goes to pick up a batch she ends up with an unexpected load. She would much rather have been caught with an out-of-hunting-season deer in her trunk than the bleeding body of Mr. Potter buried under a pile of pumpkins. Jefferson County Sheriff Colton Wise arrives to quickly take over and warn Winnie away from once again endangering herself in one of his cases, so the arrival of another “Tall, Dark, and Yummy” law enforcement officer in town for a Civil War Reenactment (it’s ok, Blossom Valley celebrates their famous abolitionist who fought against slavery) is a pleasant distraction. That Marion County Sheriff Blake Wise also happens to be Colton’s baby brother is something of a fascinating complication, especially since it seems that Blake delights in poking at all of his Big Brother’s weak points. Which includes being inflexible on allowing Winnie to investigate accusations of Potter infidelities and financial irregularities. An escaped ex-con waging a war of revenge on Colton and everything he holds dear escalates the tension within Blossom Valley, especially when Winnie is considered to be a means of hurting the stoic sheriff’s heart.

This third in the series is a welcome return to Blossom Valley, which is abundant with holiday celebrations and good cheer. It easily serves as an entry point for new readers, but fans will definitely appreciate Winnie’s growth as a strong and very engaging woman. Basically abandoned by her mom to be raised by her grandmother and late grandfather, they are the reason she so loves the farm and wants to continue its success. Winnie is both proud and a little embarrassed to be the only 29-year-old in her senior college classes, but it’s a testament to her dedication to building her family business that she still works while pursuing her education. The romantic sparring and banter between Winnie and the Colton brothers is fun and never strays into uncomfortable or forced plotlines. Blake definitely knows what he’s doing, and it makes Winnie’s attendance at a Wise family meal all the more enjoyable. There is a genuine sense of threat when Winnie’s beloved Classic Mustang Sally is pumpkin-ed, culminating in a conclusion that proves that Colton’s protectiveness was justified. The humor level is as high as it is sharp, making this cider-centric novel a joy for all mystery readers. Winnie’s national park ranger and animal activist best friend Dot ensures that there will always be an abundance of rescued fainting goats, tabby cats, and geese (all named Kenny Rogers) on hand, spicing up this hilarious and heart-warming series.

I loved this book and can't believe that I missed the first two in the series. The characters are interesting and I loved the setting. The book and the mystery are well-written and kept my interest. I liked the twists and the new direction that the story took from each one.

Now, I'm looking forward to the next one in the series and I will have to go back and read the first two in the series.

This was a lot of fun and a perfect read for fall as it's set around Thanksgiving. I really enjoye the characters in this and loved seeing the relationship between Colton and Winnie move forward a little bit. I really liked Blake who is Colton's brother and it was fun how he seemed to be there to check out Winnie because Colton wouldn't talk about her enough but he did talk about her.

In this one Mr. Potter the guy who owns a popular pumpkin farm is found dead in the back of Winnie's truck and so sleuthing begins and I was pretty surprised who the killer was!

This one also has a story arc from the previous books that gets resolved and so you really should start with the first book and I highly recommend you do. :)

Fall is in the air as well as the smell of some enticing cider which is much better than the smell of cigarette smoke from an escaped convict who is stalking Winnie to get to Colton. So if you aren’t intrigued yet just wait. There are rumors, relatives, and reenactors, all it needs are some recipes (hint-hint). Winnie is the epitome of a cozy character and her Grandma’s crew of knitters are the best, they are also the best even if the rival knitting group two towns over would disagree. As always, there is plenty of backstory so you are not lost, or confused, and if you forget who a character is, just call them Kenny Rogers like bff Dot! Not such a cliffhanger ending on this one as there was with the previous story, but I can’t wait to read the next one as the story continues to develop, much like Winnie’s cider recipes like her anniversary flavor.
