This is the first book in a new series by Kelley Armstrong. I really liked the premise of this world where sisters are in business as curse breakers. In this story, the middle sister is hired to aid in an international cursed object hunt. This is a great set-up, and the sisters are amazing. Unfortunately, the book has two issues:
1. Given this book is not a romance, there is a love interest who starts off strong but becomes less interesting the more we learn more about him. He brought down the energy of his scenes.
2. About half way in, the book stopped being about the main characters and became a fictional history told to the main characters. This is where the book lost me, and I had a hard time caring about the end.
I really enjoyed the parts of this book that were about the three sisters and their curse breaking business. Unfortunately, after establishing this set-up, this book goes into different directions which were not as interesting. I'd love to see if further books in this series focus more on the sisters.
This audiobook was read by the amazing Carly Robins. I hadn't listened to anything by Carly before, but she sucked me in and did a great job with all of the characters.
I listened to this audiobook through NetGalley.
My favorite Kelley Armstrong series is Rockton, but this seems promising as well. I thought the narrator did a great job and was a good voice for Kennedy.

Cursed Luck is the first book in the Cursed Luck series by Kelley Armstrong and I am hooked!
First off, I love the cozy mystery vibe. I loved trying to unwind the mystery throughout the book. I loved the characters! I totally want to hang out with Kenney and her sisters! I think they could make incredible friends! Aiden is so adorable, for being so well put together he really is a hot mess.
I thought this book was so funny. There were several times I laughed out loud or would smile to myself. I honestly loved the banter and sarcasm is my love language! This has a great story that I couldn't get enough of!
The narration by Carly Robins was incredible! She brought the story to life with her narration. I loved it!
Overall, I really enjoyed this book and I look forward to reading all of the future books, hopefully this will be a long series! I definitely recommend this to anyone who is looking for a fun read with a touch of fantasy and mystery!
I'm so grateful to Kelley Armstrong, Tantor Audio, and NetGalley for providing me with a free copy of this ARC ebook in exchange for my honest review.
I enjoyed this read. It had a little mystery and magic. What more could I ask for? I am surprised this wasn't a YA book. I recommend this to readers who enjoy books with fantasy/magic.
Cursed Luck is such a fun book! I first read this as an e-serial last summer (2020) and was excited to get a chance to listen to it now. I pretty much love all of the Kelley Armstrong books that I've read and this one is no different.
I loved getting to know Kennedy, a curse weaver, and Aiden, a luck worker, along with all their siblings and it was great to learn more Greek mythology while I was at it. I look forward to seeing more of Kennedy's sisters and hope for more adventures between Kennedy and Aiden.
Carly Robins, the narrator, was new to me but I enjoyed it and feel like she fit the book very well.
Thank you Netgalley for the opportunity to listen to this audio book. All opinions are my own.
Cursed Luck by Kelley Armstrong
Cursed Luck book 1. Paranormal mystery with a hint of romance.
Kennedy owns an antique shop in Boston, the cover for her skills of removing cursed objects of their spells and then reselling the clean item. After underhandedly proving that Kennedy is a witch, Aidan contracts with her to find and unweave a spell on a famous antique necklace. Kennedy agrees because somehow connected, her sisters were kidnapped and she will do anything to protect her family.
Intriguing and complex with spells, luck, hidden Gods and tricksters.
The chemistry between Kennedy and Aidan was soft and romantic. The inclusion of bad and good luck offsetting each other was amusing. The tricksters were annoying and arrogant. Of course.
Absolutely enjoyed and look forward to reading more.
I listened to the audio version narrated by Carly Robins. She did a fantastic job of voice inflection and emotions tones. I noticed a few editing adjustments but they were minor and not obtrusive. I enjoyed her overall performance.
I started at 1.0 speed and after an hour increased to my usual 1.25.
I received a copy of this from NetGalley and @Dreamscapeaudio.
Cursed Luck by Kelley Armstrong is the first time I've listened to one of her books. I love Kelley Armstrong books and read everything that comes out, but when I saw Netgalley had the audiobook, I thought I would give it a go. I really liked the book! I am still going to buy the ebook, so I can hear my inner dialogue, but I really enjoyed listening to it. This is a new series and I loved getting to know new characters and plotlines.
Review of Cursed Luck by Kelley Armstrong, Audiobook
This is the story of Kennedy Bennett, a curse weaver who gets drawn into a situation to uncurse and obtain the mythical Necklace of Harmonia along with Aiden Connolly, a luck worker. Overall the story was good and flowed nicely. It progressed well with the additional characters along the way. This is a completely story, although I was frustrated by some loose ends and unanswered questions at the end.
This was the audio version, the reading was clear and easy to hear. Although I do think the voice sounded too old as the main character is 25years old. Also, if I am being really picky the voice of the character Vanessa (who was said to be European at the beginning) sounded like a female Dracula. Which then sounded even more inappropriate as you learned more about the character.
I’ve read a lot by Kelley Armstrong and she has quite a range as a writer. I have to say that this is my favorite kind of books for her. I started reading her with the Otherworld Series and devoured as many as I could find in my local library before just buying them all. I like the Rockton Series a lot. But, in my humble or not opinion, I think supernatural worlds are her best. I love a series and I cannot wait to read more in this one. Kennedy was a strong lead, as her female leads tend to be. She doesn’t take any crap from anyone. Sometimes the men come off on as less deep in the beginning, but they are often drawn more carefully as time goes on. The women are the stars. Yes, this is just good fun to read. I cannot wait until this story takes off. Who will be the next character in focus?
3.5 stars
I really enjoyed most of this book. I was enjoying the plot, and the characters. However, when it veered off to the gods and goddesses, I didn't enjoy it as much. I thought the narrator did a great job. I was also happy that it wasn't romance heavy.
Thank you Netgalley and Tantor Audio for the chance to listen to Cursed luck by Kelley Armstrong wonderfully narrated by Carly Robins! I will admit I had already read Cursed luck as the free weekly read Kelley put up last year, but it was fabulous just to sit and listen to the story all over again and the narrator did a wonderful job weaving through the story and all the different characters. The story itself did not change much (I know it had been edited/polished) but enough time had past that I had forgotten a few details so I just let myself get caught up in the story of curse weavers, and the hunt for the mythical necklace of Harmonia. I love the relationship Kennedy has with her sisters, and the great chemistry between Kennedy and Aiden. Looking forward to the next story!!!
Another great book by one of my favorite authors.
The novel follows Kennedy Bennett and Aiden Connolly as they work together to find and decurse the infamous Necklace of Harmonia. Trying to find and obtain the necklace is difficult to begin with and becomes further complicated as rivals try to stop them and family obligations force them to carefully plan their next move.
I really enjoyed the plot. What started off as a simple mission quickly morphed into more as loyalties were questioned and old grudges came to light. I loved how the truth about the necklace’s creation wasn’t what history had recorded. The many twists was really good too. Some of the backstory in the last third was a tad dry, but that’s only because there was so much all at once. However there was no way to avoid this without revealing some twists prematurely.
The characters were amazing, Kennedy won my heart quickly. She was fierce, strong, caring and willing to do anything to save her family. I wish I had a sister like her. Aiden was good but his aloofness made him a little harder to relate too. He slowly started to open up in this novel so I can’t wait to read him in later novels to witness how he changed. The budding attraction between Kennedy and Aiden was perfectly done.
The numerous locations were great, my favorite was Unstable, Massachusetts as I’m a sucker for small towns.
The audiobook version was great as Carly Robins as the narrator did a good job. She put such emotion in the narration and gave each character a distinct voice. Anyone who likes audiobooks I would strongly recommend this one.
Thank you to NetGalley for the audiobook ARC.
Love Kelley Armstrong books! My favorite series are the Otherworld and Rockton. Cursed Luck is the first in a new series, featuring Kennedy Bennett a curse weaver. I was fortunate to listen to the audio and the narrator helps make the story. Kennedy teams up with Aidan to find a cursed necklace. Great plot and engaging characters.
So apparently this was originally posted as a serial story on the authors website. I had no idea! I listened to the audiobook and really enjoyed it.
Kennedy is a curse weaver who specializes in removing curses from objects. Aiden asks Kennedy for help and she refused until her sisters were kidnapped by people after the same thing Aiden is. This book was a wild ride. I loved that the story started off strong. It wasn't dragged out. We didn't have to wait until midway through to get action. I listened to the whole thing in one day!
I am completely obsessed with the three sisters and I can't wait to read more of their stories!
Thank you to netgalley and publishers for a copy of the audiobook!
I enjoyed this audiobook and I thought the narrator did a great job bringing the story to life.
Cursed Luck was a fun story involving magic, luck workers, curse weavers/breakers, and sibling bonds. I kind of love the whole huge dysfunctional immortal/mortal family angle and the fact that the gods weren't actually gods at all despite that I thought it was an odd direction for the story to take.
I actually like that Connolly and Kennedy didn't end up together in this book, but it left it open to that being a future possibility
First of all, I'd like to thank NetGalley for allowing me to read this ARC. I have always liked Kelley Armstrong and after just reading another one of her new series', I had no qualms and requested another book from a debut series from NetGalley.
I received the audio version to review, which honestly worked out better for me because I usually alternate between reading and/or listening. There was no print version so I was able to listen to this in its entirety. The narrator, Carly Robins, was a new narrator to me and I think she did a really good job with this book. There were a lot of different characters with distinct accents, and to me, she definitely pulled it off.
This was a very unique premise and I found myself liking Kennedy fairly quick. She is a curse worker living in Boston and the story begins when a man who we find out is actually a VERY successful business man and mage comes into her shop. This person was a man named Aiden Connolly - a luck purveyor Mage. He told her that he had a job for her and wanted a meeting.
When Kennedy arrives at Aiden's office, she finds out that the real reason he wanted her there was NOT for the job he told her about. He also attempted to trick her into staying at his office to hear him out. Kennedy walks out the door immediately, but then later feels guilty because she wasn't sure that Aidan knew that he had a cursed item in his office. She decides to go back at night and undo the curse - because it's the right thing to do. After Kennedy ends up being caught in Aidan's office, she tries to explain to him that she was trying to undo a curse that was put on his teapot. She had come back to sneak into his office late at night to undo the tea pot curse when she realizes that this was all a setup to test her skills. Not a great way to start a business relationship.
And so begins the adventure. There is a quest that needs to be done is to find a certain necklace - and a cursed necklace at that. The book is written well and it is easy to get caught up in the story and let time go by.
I REALLY enjoyed this book and am looking forward to this being the start of lots of new books for this new series. There are all kinds of twist and turns and the book keeps you curious and invested for the duration of the book.
I also wanted to mention that I listened to this through the NetGalley app and honestly had lots of problems with it. Not sure if this is a common occurrence or maybe it was just me. I listen to LOTS of books on audio and have never had that problem before. Just an FYI.
The plot was fun, Kennedy has a funny sense of humor and it was nice to see a few quick cameos from characters that we have already met and have grown to adore. But, with that being said, there were definitely things that happened to realize that the curse is real. We also get to see Kennedy start to fall for someone she just met. Aidan seems to be feeling a pull also. It is kind of like Aidan and Kennedy orbiting around together and it is EXTREMELY obvious that they have chemistry.
So, to find out more about this book - the best way to find out - is to read it :)
This was another win for Ms. Armstrong and I look forward to the next book in this series.
Thank you to NetGalley for sending me this ARC. All opinions are mine and mine alone.

This book was amazing. I got it Friday and it comes out tomorrow so I wasn’t sure I could listen to this 12+ hour audiobook in time to do a review before it came out. Well I did it.
The reason I was able to do this was because the book drew me in almost immediately. This book is about a curse weaver/witch called Kennedy Bennett that is on the a mission to save her sisters and un-curse a necklace that has been cursed for eons.
Kennedy is both snarky and fun loving at the same time. There of course is a man to throw in for a little romance. She is hired by Aiden Connolly to un-curse said necklace and she offers to do it for free if he helps her rescue her sisters. Comedy and shenanigans thrown in with some Greek Gods and this book ends with a bang literally.
I think the reason I was sucked in so quickly was because of the narrator. She flowed smoothly through the book and she does a lot of justice to both Kennedy and Aiden’s characters. Making them come alive in the narration. I don’t think that I would have been able to listening to this book for so many hours at a time without this narrator.
They are advertising this as book one of a series and I hope that a second one comes out soon because I can’t wait to continue Kennedy and Aiden’s story!
Reviewers Note: this book is also available in Kindle and hardcover editions too and comes out May 4th 2021.
I loved this book. The storytelling, the characters, the narrator. Everything.
I struggle with finding adult fantasy that isn't one of two things:
1. Struggling through miles of world building and exposition where the author clearly is trying to write the next Lord of the Rings.
or
2. It's just smut but they threw in some faeries.
While I enjoy a ~spicy~ book as much as anyone else, this book did neither of those things and I am happy for it.
Cursed luck was well written with engaging characters and potential to be a great duology or even series. Although I have no idea if the author has plans to do either.
*Thank you to the publisher for this eARC.
Many years ago was the first time I read a book by this author. Then a few months ago I read one of her non-fantasy series. I say all that to say that this book is a lot. Like a whole lot. In the Rockton series I recently read it was hit and miss with the whole lot of crazy and so much going on. This one though? I’m not sure how to feel about this one...
We start out with Kennedy a curse weaver who just wants to live her life and run her antique shop. Her family’s magic is in the removal of curses from objects. She wanted to get out of her small town so she set up her own shop in Boston to enjoy city life. Everything goes wrong when she meets the snobby Aiden who wants to hire her for a job. She later finds out that he is a little different too and his magic is in luck. She doesn’t like him and an off handed comment makes her think he’s threatened her sisters who end up kidnapped. What does this kidnapper want? The same thing as Aiden... to un-curse a famously cursed ancient necklace that’s coming up for auction. So they have to team up to try to get the necklace to save her sisters. Naturally absolutely everything goes wrong.
There’s magic and near death and multiple kidnappings and oh right Greek gods... It’s a lot. And when you are dealing with Greek gods there’s always some kind of familial infighting. Curses and luck and shenanigans.
Something that seems to come up far too often in paranormal/fantasy types of stories how someone who is already doing something unbelievable will believe something else is completely impossible. Um when you have magic yourself and your family has maintained the fact that you are decedents of gods and then when you find that there are real living mythical gods that’s something crazy? Something you just can’t believe?
I did not read this book as a serial since I literally only heard of it because I’m doing an audiobook review. And since the book hasn’t been released I can’t just skim forward a little. It’s not a bad story at all it’s just too much and rather exhausting. The whole kidnap plot was perfectly fine the immortal twist didn’t make it more interesting just overly complicated. Though of course considering those involved the chaotic insanity makes sense it just could have been interesting without all of that. I like Kennedy and Aiden and I appreciated their love for their siblings.
I'm still dipping my toe in fantasy but I thought this was a really intriguing audiobook and loved all the detail about the magical world and items. I thought the bond between sisters was a really lovely touch too. I'll definitely be seeking out more fantasy and more from this author.
