A great book that I'd recommend to anyone planning a visit to London.

An absolutely stunning book, full of beautiful photographs of artworks found in London museums and galleries. Interior and exterior photographs of the museums and art galleries show London at it’s glorious best. This book is full of interesting facts about all of London’s key Museums and Art galleries as well as some lesser know ones. It is a book which can be enjoyed time and again and has set my heart yearning for the time when we can all go back to visiting these places in person. For the time being, this book provides a good substitute for the real thing. Highly recommended

A big thank you to NetGalley and Quarto Publishing/White Lion for the ARC. I am voluntarily reviewing this book. What a great book!! If you think you have seen all the museums in London-guess again! I am a museum lover and there were new ones in this book for me. Can't wait to go back and visit some old friends and make some new ones. Absolutely great, nicely done. 5 stars

5 stars!
It's been far too long since I was in London. (Decades, actually...) I've always wanted to get back there, but I'm on the other side of "the pond" so even during the best of times, it's a serious trip. And, of course, these are hardly the best of times... so I thought this book might soothe the itch a little bit, so to speak. Now I just want to go more than ever, AND I have an awesome itinerary planned.

Like me, you may have been to the Victoria and Albert, the Tate, or the British Museum, but if you love oddities, The Grant Museum of Zoology is waiting for you. I can't imagine what medical horrors are hidden within The Old Operating Theatre and The British Dental Museum. Or if illustration and typography if more your style, maybe I'll see you at The House of MinaLima or The House of Illustration. There is absolutely a museum in London to suit any taste, and Eleanor Ross has curated a list of the most fascinating of them with just enough information to whet your appetite for your next trip to London. Everything you need to contact them is helpfully included.

I am so grateful to NetGalley and Quarto Publishing Group – White Lion/Frances Lincoln for the opportunity to read and review this gorgeous guide. I will most definitely be buying a hard copy to consult whenever I get back to London.

London's Museums and Galleries is an exceptional guide for all London lovers! I love all the information and the beautiful photographs. I believe this would make an excellent gift who just moved to London or visiting this beautiful city. As a Londoner, I discovered a lot from this book, good work!

A very pretty museum and gallery guide for London. I've been to London six times, usually spending a week on each visit. I love museums and art but of the many places mentioned I've visited only 16. This book highlights the diverse amount of museums and galleries in the London area. It is broken up geographically and includes maps at the end to give you an idea of the locations.

A big plus is the beautiful photography. Each location receives a color photo, a paragraph description, tube stop and an address, hours and scaled fee amount. The book chooses not to judge or rate the museums or give a suggested amount of time. For example I've spent multiple days in the British Museum and National Gallery but less than an hour at the Museum of London. Sir John Soane's Museum is a small treasure but the book doesn't let you know you must have reservations because of its size.

In short this would be a great read for someone interested in museums and galleries in London but I'd recommend a more traditional tourist guidebook. as a companion. This has given me some new ideas for places to visit on my next return to the beautiful city of London. Thank you NetGalley and Quarto Publishing Group-White Lion for a temporary ARC ebook in exchange for an honest review.

London's Museums and Galleries is a comprehensive guide to museums and galleries in all parts of London, featuring museums of all types. The photographs are wonderful and this would be a lovely coffee table book to flick through. There's not too much specific information, meaning that it won't quickly go out of date.
There is no focus on any specific museums or galleries - the book gives as much space and description to the big institutions such as The National Gallery, the Tate Modern and the Museum of Natural History as it does to small, independent contemporary art galleries. If you're looking for suggested highlights for a short trip to London, a travel guide book might be more useful, but this book is perfect if you want to find hidden treasures, or have plenty of time to visit lots of different places. I'm moving to London in the next few months and this book will be a great resource for me. It's especially great how clearly the pricing is labelled (and how many of them are free!) and the descriptions of each museum give a snappy but useful overview to pique your interest and help you decide where to visit - though unfortunately for me, it just makes me want to visit all of them!

This is a great little guide to museums all over London (not just the “touristy” parts), . Each museum has its own page with a quick write up and some color pictures. It ranges from the famous (Tate, V&A, etc) to the obscure (who knew about the Dental Museum or the Vagina Museum?) and everything in between. I definitely learned about new places I want to go when we can travel abroad again! Thank you to publisher for providing copy in exchange for review. I highly recommend this book!

This is a fabulous book which has given me so many great ideas for summer days out in London. There are some familiar venues and others which are new to me, and each listing is accompanied by handy tips on planning a visit. An excellent book to find places to explore for all tastes and interests! With thanks to NetGalley, Quarto Publishing Group - White Lion and Eleanor Ross for a copy of the book in exchange for an honest review.

Think you know London? Seen everything there is to see? You really haven't! Buy this book and explore something different!

Eclectic collection of galleries and museums across London. This is a book for anyone looking for a different experience when visiting London. It has glorious photos to tempt you visit so many different places. I knew (and have visited) most of the big famous museums, but was still inspired from this book to go back for another look. However, what I really liked was the smaller, less-known, places which I had never heard of! I have made my list and will be ticking them off each time I visit London over the coming months.

The information given on each museum is fairly brief, but gives a good taste of what to expect and you can always visit the museum websites for further information.

Visitor or resident: I think this is a book for everyone spending time in London!

Oh wow.. to imagine where Keats wrote La belle dame sans merci. A brief history of post-office cats

Transportation museum, Canal Museum, Ice Museum.

Reading the book, you get a sense of the place the museum is located in, its time, London's history, special things about the museum and its collection.

A great way to customise your trip to London by finding out which museums to visit or look at the map in the abck and find out which museums are in the vicinity of the areas you are visiting. if traveling is not an option, consider any online exhibitions or actiivties by the museum. I attended an online event where a curator explained a painting with all the history. It was wonderful.

I honestly thought that after four vacations to London and living there for a semester I would have been to all the museums and galleries of interest to me, but alas, I have to go back now. This book covers museums and galleries across London of various topics, sizes, and price ranges. The sections are divided by geographic area, but people should be warned that several of the locations featured are quite far out of London proper and could be very difficult to reach. The descriptions provide a good summary of each collection including information like which artists who have been featured in the spaces or what they are known for. As noted I did find a few that I had never heard of that are now on my must visit list on my next trip to London. In addition to the descriptions the book provides general practical information including different museum passes available and details about late nights at certain museums. This book would be useful for any museum lover as a good companion to another more general travel book.

Thank you to NetGalley and Frances Lincoln for the ARC in exchange for an honest review.

This was a quick okay-ish read. I felt that it was more of a turist guide than enithig else, though. There was very, VERY little about each of the listed museums, like a pamphlet, and I felt that I would rather have less places in more detail, than numerous museums/galleries with very little information.

This book is a wonderful guide to the richness that is to be found in London’s museums and galleries. It is organized by geographical area, so handy for planning a day’s outings. The well-known is definitely here-The British Museum. The Courtauld, The National Gallery, and the Barbican, to name a few. There are other less well known locations as for example, dental, toy and transport museums, the Churchill War Rooms and so many more. Each succinct entry is full of ideas for things to see. Throughout the text is accompanied by many photos.

I highly recommend this guide for anyone traveling to Britain.

Many thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for this title. All opinions are my own.

Well, I fail to see how I could mark this down, for it does just what it sets out to do. Yes, you might want a firmer structure on things here – all the pompous Mayfair art galleries nobody's heard of featuring 'artists' nobody's heard of together, then military, then science and medicine, etc, or all the free ones going up to the "how much?!" museums at the end. Of course, there is a counter-argument to all that, in that some collections are so unclassifiably large they wouldn't fit any one proper category, and there's more than one free museum with a hellish ticket price to a specific show. So yes, this loose geographical organisation is perhaps the best to go for. We get proper gazetteer-styled data for each museum and gallery, at least one decent representative picture, and a good paragraph discussing what we're letting ourselves in for upon entry. Of course, when I was at the cut and thrust of what we more and more loosely call 'culture', we had "Time Out" magazine to tell us all the details about such things. In a world where the last useful issue of that is sitting in a museum somewhere, this look at our capital's capital collections is what offers the most inspiration since.

This clearly has many of the same photographs as its cousin, Free London (https://www.goodreads.com/review/show/3960146041) - and the same almost bizarre omission.
