Thanks to the author, publisher and Netgalley for an advance copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
I struggled with this book a little and found it a bit of a slog to get through. It was written from the perspective of three different female characters, Elizabeth, Leah and Kristina. All of whom had very traumatic experiences in their past and were clearly very damaged individuals.
A lot of the chapters seemed quite repetitive, the same depressing, obsessive and neurotic feelings over and over again, just being told by a different narrator. I found this book really bleak and depressing. Even the therapist was receiving therapy! One of the characters described herself “at best I was a ball of phlegm” which kind of says it all.
I thought I had worked out really early on what the twist was going to be, and it turned out I was spot on. The book did start to get a bit better once we got to the cabin mentioned in the title but that didn’t actually happen until half way through the book! The descriptions of the Scandinavian scenery were lovely, and I probably enjoyed reading that more than the actual story.

Kristina is a successful therapist in central Oslo. When her client, the novelist Leah, doesn't turn up to the session, Kristina starts to worry since Leah was really distressed and bruised at their last meeting. As she knows Leah's troubled past, she tries to find and rescue her.
Leah has a cabin in a remote location, so maybe she is there?

The narrative is dark, full of streams of Kristina's thoughts, bygone secrets and marital problems with ambitious politician.

And nothing is as it seems.

The pace of the novel is slow, characters difficult and unsympathetic and the ending predictable. As I usually adore good Scandi thriller, I just couldn't warm to the Cabin Fever.

Thank you for giving me the chance to read and review this title.

I'm not always a fan of Scandi Noir but having read the intriguing premise, I decided to give it a go.

I didn't find the story too dark, or at least no more than it needed to be! The plot was absorbing and full of mystifying twists that I certainly didn't foresee ahead of time.

What more can I say other than this book contained all the necessary ingredients for a great psychological thriller. I loved it!

This book was such a great read, it’s pacy and definitely had me raving through the pages. You think you’ve worked out the twists only to realise you didn’t have a clue.

Kristina, a therapist, is concerned about her patient Leah who is acting strangely, Leah has asked her to go to her cabin as it’s time for ‘the truth’. Eventually, Kristina does go and finds out a lot more than she bargained for, Whilst this story was pacy and kept me reading, I found the character portrayals didn’t add up. Later actions didn’t match earlier ones and most people see very unsympathetic. Thanks to Netgalley for an advance copy in exchange for an honest review.

I've read all Alex Dahl's books and really enjoyed them but I really did struggle with this one I found it slow and it didn't hold my attention.
I felt bad not liking it but it won't stop me from reading any further books by this author.
Thank you to Netgalley and Head of Zeus for the ARC.

This was a very deep and absorbing read in which I found myself so mesmerised by what what going on I just forgot everything else around me. It was my first book by Alex Dahl and just what you would expect in a Scandi thriller and although it was set at a slow pace the story just built up layer upon layer with clues revealed and I was never quite sure what was the truth as it was told by some very unreliable narrators.
It’s a beautifully written book and you really get a feeling for the harsh surroundings especially when the story takes us to the cabin I could really feel that cold creeping into my bones and it made the book even more chilling.
I love Scandinavian noir and read a lot of them by various authors and I would put Alex Dahl right up the top with the best of them I really loved it.
So at its heart it’s a tale of obsession, deception, lies, twisted stories and deeply unsettling but oh boy it’s compulsive reading throughout and a book I can highly recommend.
My thanks to NetGalley and Head of Zeus for giving me chance to read the ARC in exchange for my honest opinion.

Kristna is a respected therapist in Oslo and is happily married to a politician. However, her seemingly perfect life seems to crumble when her client Leah who is a successful novelist starts to act strangely and then disappears. This book had me hooked. I loved the forest setting, the therapy thread, and the twisted plot. This is a first for me by the author and one I enjoyed and would read more of their work. The book cover is eye-catching and appealing and would spark my interest if in a bookshop. Thank you very much to the author, publisher and Netgalley for this ARC.

This was not my usual pick up and read, but there was something about the description that caught my eye and sold itself to me. Its started off quite differently than how I had imagined it may, but soon the book began to take a serious steep set of turns, that leaves you wondering where the story will be taking you next.

For fans of dark, twisty, suspenseful books with a hint of Nordic noir about them, then this is a book for you!

Kristina Moss is a respected trauma therapist, and wife to the man who will almost certainly be Norway's next Prime Minister. Elegant, wealthy, and living the dream life - or so it seems. But when one of Kristina's clients, successful novelist Leah Iverson, disappears to her remote cabin after begging Kristina to meet her there, Kristina's world is tipped on its axis. In following Leah, Kristina's own life will never be the same...

I really enjoyed this well written and cleverly plotted thriller. The characters are beautifully drawn, and the revelations are well-paced. I did see the eventual twist coming from a mile off, which is why this is a four star review and a not a five, but on the whole this book was a cut above - smart, sharp, and engaging, with a well-realised and intriguing back story. I look forward to reading more from this author.

Thank you to NetGalley, and to the publisher, who granted me a free ARC copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

I was absolutely gripped by the novel and following Kristna trying to help Leah and work out where she is once she goes missing and what happened was riveting. The deeper into the novel I got the more the twists and reveals came to light I was shocked; when Kristina's past come to light I couldn't put the book down until I knew what had happened. A tense and gripping Scandi Noir novel that I would recommend to anyone.

Started quite well but the painfully slow pace meant my attention wandered frequently. Fabulous setting and very atmospheric but then .. not much happens. The plot deviates off to give us lots of back story but I found myself thinking- "oh just get on with it" "Go to the cabin"
Didn't connect with me- sorry I also had problems with the text being incredibly pale in places making it almost impossible to read

Kristina Moss is a successful trauma therapist and one of her clients is Leah Iverson, an author of a semi autobiographical book which becomes a world wide best seller. Leah has been making progress but her recovery has taken a step backwards. She wants Kristina to go with her to her isolated cabin near Telemark and when Leah fails to show for an appointment she sets off to find the cabin. There she finds Leah missing but locates a manuscript entitled ‘Supernova’ which like the spectacular star explosion detonates her life.

This is a clever, well written and intriguing Nordic Noir Thriller. There are multiple layers in the storytelling which ultimately peels back the carefully constructed protective layers that Kristina has built over the years. There are puzzling conundrums as you try to work out who is the liar, if one of them is a fantasist or devilishly truthful. Several of the characters have been traumatised by past events and the truth behind that emerges a bit at a time keeping you invested in the novel. There’s a very good contrast between Kristina’s seemingly golden life with her politician husband Eirik and the anxieties and mental suffering of others. The story is dark, it has suspense and tension and once the focus switches to the cabin there’s a deep claustrophobic atmosphere which contrasts with the beauty of the location. There are some shocking revelations, there’s jealousy, obsession, anger, rage and acute pain before the dramatic conclusion. There are some good twists and justice is meted out at the end.

Overall, I think this latest book from Alex Dahl is gripping as all kinds of ‘cabin fever’ are unleashed.

With thanks to NetGalley and Head of Zeus for the much appreciated arc in return for an honest review.

2.5 stars. The slowest of slow burns.

Psychotherapist Kristina Moss is treating famed author Leah Iverson for a series of mental health issues. When she shows up for a session battered and bruised, then doesn't show up for her next two appointments, Kristina becomes concerned and attempts to track her down.

The setting was beautiful. I had no trouble picturing the snow covered trees outside Kristina's office and the harsh winter of Norway. Kristina was an interesting character with a lot of depth, however, the story drove off course a bit when detailing her backstory and personal problems. It felt like non stop whinging.

Sadly, I saw all of the 'twists' coming and I was extremely frustrated when Kristina didn't get to the cabin until half way through the book! It seemed to go on and on and I was hoping, when she finally did arrive, things would start heating up. Unfortunately, I was completely bored and I really struggled to finish.

**Thanks to Head of Zeus and Netgalley for my advance copy.

I had high hopes for this - I’m a sucker for books about writers, and I love the TV show Hannibal, so I was looking forward to some psychological cat-and-mouse games between the writer and her therapist. Unfortunately that’s not really what I got here - it’s a pretty by-the-numbers thriller with predictable plot twists and uninteresting characters. I did read all the way to the end, hoping there would be a clever twist or purpose to it all, but I was left a little disappointed.

A great read! This is your typical Scandinavian Noir thriller, and although I'm not a fan of the genre (because it's too gory), this book had me hooked. I loved the forest setting, the therapy thread, and the twisted plot.

The synopsis completely caught my attention and I thought I was going to love this book. However, I found it lacked the intensity it needed. It was often very dull and dragged at bits. I was disappointed that it did not deliver what it set out to.

I loved Alex Dahl's previous novel Play Date and so was really looking forward to reading Cabin Fever. I also love books about therapists and was intrigued when I read the synopsis. Cabin Fever starts off well, it's well written and the descriptions of Oslo and the the portrayal of Kristina and her client Leah really drew me in. Sadly, for me the book seemed to lose focus around half way through and I began to lose interest. I did finish it but it didn't really regain the momentum of the first half. It is worth a read though, I like the settings and the atmosphere the author creates in her novels and I will definitely read more from her.
Many thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for a digital ARC.
