Light and fun paranormal romance that's perfect for October! Ugh this book was too cute. Ugg this small town is just perfect. I want to move there myself lol 4⭐
Thanks to NetGalley for an advanced copy.
What can I say? Not my thing. Was disappointed. I felt it was all about them having sex.
Prologue: Vivienne Jones has been dating a guy for three months. She finds out that he is actually betrothed to another woman. She takes a long bath and then hexes both he and his bloodline. But it's all in good fun. It wasn't even a real hex.
Nine year later Rhys Penhallow is back in town. He's only there to attend the town's 100th anniversary because his family founded the town. He's also there to reset the ley lines that his family set. Yes, he is a witch. To be fair, so is Vivienne though she didn't know that fact until later in life. And now it seems like the hex might be something more than a frivolous night of blowing off steam. And when Rhys resets the ley lines, his hex transfers from him directly into town.
Immediately, strange things start happening. Toy skulls surround customers in the shop Vivienne's cousin runs. A ghost is released from a binding. Basically, Rhys, Vivienne and her aunt and cousin are kept busy putting out both literal and metaphorical fires. But trying to solve the hex gives Rhys and Vivienne time to spend together.
This was a fun story and hopefully the start to a new series. I would love to see how Vivienne's cousin works things out with Mayor Jane. There are definitely a few things that threw me off including some pretty big time jumps where it seems like things were maybe settling down because there was no exposition but overall a fun, fast, and fluffy read.
Four stars

Opinions are my own
This is one of the most fun books I’ve ever read! I love the concept but the execution is even better. We need more books that go from laugh out loud funny to scorching to more than a little creepy. This is perfect for fall; highly recommended.
I really wanted to like this one but it kind of fell flat for me. It was a fun read but the story was a bit slow at times. Also the ending was a bit too cliche.
There were some underdeveloped plot point, but honestly? The setting is irresistible. It's a perfect mood read for October and well worth it just for the fun witchy vibes.
This was very cute a great fall read. The resolution was a bit rushed and I would have liked to see some more of them fighting back against the curse, but overall I enjoyed it.
The Ex Hex was one of my most highly-anticipated books of the year! I knew I needed all the cozy small town witchy vibes for fall and The Ex Hex definitely delivered on all of that!
This was such a fun, light, and quick read! I enjoyed both the physical book and the audiobook. I got major Halloweentown vibes which is one of my favorite Halloween movies and I was completely charmed by the small town of Graves Glen. While there were aspects that I loved, I felt some areas were lacking as well. The romance did not really do anything for me even though there were multiple steamy scenes. Also, the story just moved so quickly and there was just way too much crammed into such a short book. I think the fact that it is a quick read is a positive but also a negative because I wanted so much more. Regardless, The Ex Hex would be a good pick if you want something easy to read with a Halloween movie on in the background.
Thank you so much to Avon Books, Netgalley, Harper Audio, and Libro.fm for the gifted copies! All opinions are my own.
This witchy romance was so fun to read! The story follows Vivi and Rhys, two witches who dated for a brief summer 9 years earlier. But when Rhys leaves as he is betrothed to another witch, Vivi breaks one of the most important rules her family has: Never mix vodka and witchcraft. She curses Rhys, but small things, like making sure “his hair never does that thing again. You know the thing we mean.”
Nine years pass and Rhys has to return to Graves Glen, and as soon as he arrives, his magic is being wonky. When he abs Vivi realize the curse is actually a blood curse passed down through Vivi’s family, they have to figure out how to reverse it before Halloween.
The story of Vivi and Rhys had me smiling so much, my face hurt! I really enjoy multiple POV which was used here because as the reader you get to see that both characters are feeling the same things but are not saying it out loud! I always get slightly frustrated when they do this, but I also love it! This book was an easy 5 stars, and I will definitely be rereading it next Halloween season!
QOTD: What is your favorite Halloween move?
My A: Halloweentown! I grew up watching those movies every year and will still gladly dedicate a night to Marnie and her amazing grandmother!

This book is ALL OVER Booksta so i’ll keep this short and sweet! This is truly such a fun book! The angst is very low and the pace is quick which makes for very easy and enjoyable reading. I saw that this book gives Hocus Pocus vibes. Personally, I’m not sure where that comparison comes into play? Maybe because there’s plenty of comedic relief to keep the spooky theme from getting, well, too spooky? Either way, this is definitely a book worth snagging this Halloween season!!
The perfect rom-com for spooky season. I absolutely adored this book and it was everything I wanted it to be. I loved the small town aspect, the college, the jaded history, and the characters. It was like all my Halloween dreams rolled up into a delicious snack with some steam. Vivienne and Rhys have a second- chance at love but first they have to undo the curse. Now the only thing I request is this be made into a movie by next Halloween.
10/10 stars for perfect, witchy, sexy Halloweeny vibes. I don’t think you can get any better than the author’s own description (Hocus Pocus but they - ahem -) but I’ll try. We’ve got lovers - to enemies - back to lovers, spooky setting (small town over Halloween!) witchy women, and of course - the hex that started it all. This one was pure fun from start to finish and I loved every second of it. This is exactly what I want to read this time of year!
Solid three and a half stars. It was funny, I'll give it that. But dang. I wish this didn't have the problem that all Rachel Hawkins books have. It spends so much time building to the climax and then boom. Problem solved in 12 pages and end of book. Sigh. I don't really like romances about former lovers, but I enjoyed the wit and quips of Vivi and Rhys. If you're looking for a good way to spend an afternoon, look no further.
Thanks to Avon for sending me a copy through NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. I ended up buying my own copy because I'm excited to hand it off.
“Never mix witchcraft with vodka”.
This was the perfect seasonal read! It had the right amount of witchy and cheesy romance to make my heart swoon! I loved Vivi and Rhys’s banter, the setting of small town, the Halloween vibes, and magical mishaps that made this book such a fun read!
Read this if you love Sabrina and the Teenage Witch, Halloweentown, or Hocus Pocus to give you all the cutesy/spooky fall vibes!
Thank you @netgalley, @customhousebooks, and @williammorrowbooks for this ARC in exchange for an honest review! ✨
Well this was bloody fantastic! Though as a lover of the Hex Hall series, I expected nothing less.
This is the absolute perfect October read for romance readers. It's not super spooky or creepy but has magic in droves. And all the spice you need (and I ain't talking about pumpkin spice either). The witty banter, the comedic family. This was just everything I hoped for and more.
The characters were well done and I enjoyed the varied blend of them. There were a couple of side characters whom I would enjoy to see fleshed out (can I get a book 2 following Gwen?) but otherwise, fantastic.
The plot was perfect for this book. Like just witchy enough without being super dark. So it was more geared toward the romance than the dark magic plot. And ooooh how I just loved Vivi and Rhys poking fun at Rhys' family home. Ok. I just loved Vivi and Rhys.
This is the perfect October witchy Halloween vibes book without being scary and add a little romance! What the perfect concoction of fun, magic and flirty banter! This is a bit of a second chance romance with Vivi and Rhys, as they had spent a bit of time hooking up while attending a college class. It’s many years and a curse later and now Vivi has to deal with the repercussions of the curse she sent Rhys’ way.
This was so fun! Even though I read it near Halloween it is not a strictly Halloween book - it doesn’t take place on Halloween either so that’s fun. Vivi is vivacious and Rhys is broody but dreamy. They are helplessly falling back toward each other throughout the story and I loved it!
The only sticky part for me was the magic in this story. There are lots of specifics and changing what they know or how each part is set up to create more storyline - I wish they would’ve streamlined it a bit. But also the magic gave me Buffy twist vibes so I enjoyed it as well? Apparently I’m picky so please ignore this and go read the book :). SO cute and brings the steam a few times too! Happy Witchy Reading!
The perfect rom-com to read in October if you like witchy, fall vibes.
Despite the ghosts, curses, and dark magic - the book is very light and feels like reading a romantic comedy. The characters are all likable, and the plot develops well. Although the end game is fairly obvious, the road to the endgame is twisty and full of fun magic.
Thanks NetGalley for the ARC of this book!
As soon as I saw the cover I KNEW I needed to read this! I mean ✨Bewitched✨ vibes right?!?
This book by @erinsterlingbooks is super cute and fun! I loved the magical elements and Vivi and Rhys had a great dynamic! I do wish the side characters like Simon and Gwyn were more developed but I’m comforted that goodreads shows this as a #1 so fingers crossed!
This is a perfect October read if you don’t want spooky!
This was my pick for BOTM and it was a great choice. Such a good pick for October! Fun, romantic, sexy, and a great HEA. Highly recommend!
cute, fluffy, witchy romance. Perfect for October. I'm not usually one for romance but there was enough other stuff going on that it held my attention. And the spicy scenes weren't too long, easy to skim.
