I received a chapter sampler from Netgalley for a review.

The Maidens by Alex Michaelides is a psychological thriller that I am excited to read. After just reading a few short chapters it is clear that there will be many twists and turns to follow. So far, we are following Mariana, a group counselor who has lost the man she loved, Sebastian. She also seems to have come from a lonely home life. Her mother died shortly after her birth and her father seemed to be distant and withdrawn from her. We see her grieving over Sebastian and we also see her interacting with members of her small group, one man in particular, Henry who seems to have an interest in Mariana other than just as his counselor. Mariana, receives a phone call about a young girl from Cambridge who has been murdered and the story continues from there.

I do like this authors writing and a good thriller is always fun to read. I look forward to reading the rest of this book when it comes out in June.

I love when chapter samplers are offered! This book started out really good and I can’t wait to read the rest of it. Luckily for me, I have the audiobook so I’m diving right in!

The Maidens Chapter Sampler by Alex Michaleides looks to be an intriguing book by this master. It is about a woman called Mariana who is a group therapist. She has also lost her husband. It is not clear if that has happened by the beginning of the book or not. What is clear is the powerful use of language employed by this author. The descriptive language is breath-taking and the use of dialogue is part and parcel of he success. I recommend this book when it appears at booksellers.

I was invited to read a free e-ARC of The Maidens Chapter Sampler by Netgalley. All thoughts and opinions are mine. #netgalley #themaidens

I cannot wait to finish this. Such a teaser. I loved the silent patient and I feel like the maidens might even be better than that

I was a huge fan of The Silent Patient and this book looks to be just as good. After only reading a sample of the first few chapters, I was immediately drawn in and certainly plan to purchase the complete novel when it becomes available.

Even this short little tease of a sampler made me love Alex Michaelides even more. When I read The Silent Patient, I knew I would read every one of his books. I have been waiting forever for this next book and so far I am not disappointed!

Mariana is dealing with the loss of her husband (I think). She is also a group counseling having to help others through their problems while she is dealing with her own. She has an odd connection with a man named Henry and I am anxious to see where the story goes with the two of them and how he comes into play in the plot. The sample ended with Mariana getting a call from someone named Zoe about a girl found in the woods who she thinks is her friend. I cannot wait to see what happens in the story next and how the information we are given at the beginning connects to it all.

I received a chapter sampler from Netgalley and the publisher in return for a fair and honest review.

Having read only the first 5 chapters of the book, I'm not sure how to accurately review the story. However I was disappointed once I came to the end of my copy. I was a big fan of the authors other book The Silent Patient and this one looks very intriguing. I will have to purchase a full copy on June 15 2021

The story seems to be about a murder and a group therapist, looking forward to finishing the story in the future.

I received an ARC of #TheMaidens from @CeladonBooks. Like with his debut novel The Silent Patient, The Maidens did not disappoint. This novel hooked me from the very beginning with its characters, plot, and twists. I tried to draw out my reading experience because I really didn't want this book to end. I wanted to see what happened to Mariana, Zoe, and the rest of the characters. I never saw what was coming, like in The Silent Patient. Cannot wait for Alex Michaelides next novel to see what he brings to his readers next!

I liked the author's previous book, The Silent Patient, so when I saw this one I had to check it out. The chapter sampler only had the first 5 chapters, but I am definitely curious to see what happens next! Interesting to start to a murder mystery.

I was impressed with The Silent Patient so I thought I would give Alex Michaelides’s next book a try. There is a lot of explanation of the main character’s back story that was kind of overwhelming. I wish it would have been spread out a bit more. The murder at the end of this sampler is enough to keep my attention, but other than that, I’m not sure if I would keep reading.

Only five chapters and it is so good! I was really excited to read this sampler as I enjoyed The Silent Patient. Main character Marianna, a psychotherapist and widow, is grieving the death of her husband Sebastian. She keeps herself busy with work until a phone call from her niece, Zoe, prompts her to leave town. Zoe’s friend, Tara, is found murdered on the grounds of the university they attend and fingers are pointed at Professor Edward Fosca. He has an arrogant flair that charms everyone especially a group of students known as The Maidens! I cannot wait to read the rest! Thank you to Celadon Books, NetGalley, and the author. This is my honest review.

This is a chapter sampler for the new book from Alex Michaelides - The Maidens. I enjoyed his last book, The Silent Patient, so I'm looking forward to this one. These first few chapters we're given a possible villian on the first page. And we're introduced to Mariana, who has suffered a great loss. There is some tension but it's hard to get a full sense of the book from such a small sample. It does feel like a book you would want to keep reading.

Wow! The anxiously awaited second novel from Alex Michaelides has me HOOKED from the beginning. After reading the chapter sampler, I need more! If this one is anything like The Silent Patient, I know we're in for a wild ride, and I can't wait to keep reading. I love how the chapters end so ominously, adding to the creepiness. I just wish I had all of it to read!

I've received first 5 sample chapters for advanced proof reading. From what I get, I would say the new book was in equal writing style from Alex' The Silent Patient. The chapters are in reasonable writing length and easy to read. Just like his old book, Alex lays out all the characters and potential story lines in parallel and I would guess you won't know the real truth till the end of the book. Never enough for 5 chapters advanced proof reading, can't wait for the publication day. Strong recommendation if you like his previous debut and i bet this one won't fail you.
