I have always loved reading anything by and listening to Billy Graham. I can remember attending a revival in my hometown when I was very young that Billy Graham was preaching at. This amazing man could always hold my attention and his messages always hit home. When I saw that this book was by Anne Graham Lotz, I knew I had to read it. Of course as I expected, this book did not disappoint at all.
I loved that I got to see a side of the Graham family from Anne's point of view. To hear that Billy and Ruth Graham were just down right good people and did not flaunt their wealth just justifies what I had thought about them all along. Such great people and had a heart for God in all that they did. They passed down these great traits to their kids and grandkids as well.
Anne brings out so many good points in this book that we as Christians should always remember if we are going to be Jesus followers. Some of the points made you think about all the time but Anne does a great job of driving these points home and helping you to relate to them so much better. I flew through this book because it was such easy reading and kept my attention. I wanted to know more about the Graham family anyway and those stories kept me intrigued as well.
I highly recommend this book. Such a great read! I voluntarily read and reviewed this book and all opinions are my own. Thanks to Netgalley, the author and the publisher for an advanced copy of this book. I know this one is going to do really well!
This is a solid guide for raising Jesus Followers! So many godly examples from those dearest to Rachel Ruth. Highly recommend!
Well written and interesting memoir about a beloved family.
Billy Graham’s daughter, Anne, and her daughter, Rachel-Ruth, team up to share a beautiful family story and encourage the reader to “pass the baton” of faith to the next generation. It wasn’t what I had expected, but is easy to read and understand. In addition to sharing ways their family has shared their faith and witnessed through generations, Anne and Rachel-Ruth use the story of Noah as a backdrop to talking about a life of faithfulness. They share the message of salvation and encourage the reader to “pass the Baton,” citing ways and reasons to do so.
I received a copy of this book from the publisher as part of the launch team, and the review is my honest opinion.
5 stars, Everyday teachings
JESUS FOLLOWERS
by Ann Graham Lotz and Rachel-Ruth Lotz Wright
The author and her daughter are the daughter and granddaughter of the famous Reverend Billy Graham. They give practical tips for how to reach out to your friends, family, and even complete strangers to share God's message that will save their lives.
One chapter is called CHOCOLATE MILK and POPCORN, which sounds kind of cute and a little funny, but the lesson these two women are teaching is that there doesn't have to be a special time to talk about important, spiritual things, it can be anytime, anywhere.
Highly recommend. This book will give you guidance in your personal walk with the Lord and helpful tools that can enable you to engage in an easygoing, honest way with everyone around you.
With gratitude, I accepted a complimentary copy of #JesusFollowers by @MultnomahBooks #ChristianNonFiction #BestBooksof2021 #MustRead I was under no obligation to post a review.
What an encouraging book directing you to follow Jesus. It’s a book filled with insights from Anne Graham Lotz and Rachel Ruth Lotz Wright. The insights range from tidbits of information from ‘behind the scenes’ of the Graham household and how not only to live a life for Jesus but one you can pass down to your future generations. It will have questioning your legacy. It’s definitely a must read and a very appropriate book for our current times.
I would highly recommend this book to all Christian parents with teenage or young children still at home. In today’s society, kids are being taught “gender identity” and cancel culture and tolerance, that there is no right or wrong but everyone is entitled to be right. This book helps parents teach the basics of Christian faith to kids in a way that helps the child learn to hold to what is right. It demonstrates to parents and to grandparents the importance of family faith.
This book is chock-full of real-life examples of how to show Jesus' love to those around us, particularly our kids. I loved the behind the scenes stories of the Graham family. However, I was hoping for more than just a collection of stories, perhaps some more Bible exposition. I do think this would be a good book for someone who is maybe a new Christian and not yet sure what it looks like to live out their faith. The stories in this book could be very helpful.
Reading Jesus Followers is like peeking behind the curtain for an intimate look into the lives of four generations of the Graham family. First-person stories and reflections by Rachel-Ruth Lotz Wright, daughter of Anne Graham Lotz, granddaughter of Ruth and Billy Graham make for inspiring reading--not just because of the life lessons and Scriptural tie-ins, but because we see that not all is forever perfect in the great evangelist's family. An example of both is in Chapter 4, where we see young Rachel Ruth hiding from her parents because she KNOWS she has caused her sister harm through her actions. Yet, her father chooses not to punish her but give her an unforgettable lesson in the meaning of grace.
Chapters can be read as daily devotions. Each ends with a thought provoking question, Scripture verse, and prayer prompt. Each chapter is best savored--although I can hardly wait until I open the next one!
#Jesus Followers# is by Anne Graham Lotz and Rachel Ruth Wright. Anne is the daughter of Billy Graham and Rachel is the granddaughter. Jesus Followers is a practical and helpful book. The book encourages parents and grandparents to make their faith real to the next generation. This book is rich with practical examples from the Ruth and Billy Graham's example. This book draws so much history and helps the reader apply this book to their lives. It is so nice that Anne wrote the book with her daughter so the book can have the perspective of Anne and Ruth in the book. Anne shares about worship, work, walk and witness. The reader will find this book very inspiring and rich. The reader will see how God has made a difference in the whole Graham and Lotz families. A book every parent should read! I only wish I'd read this 40 years ago! Jesus Followers is easy to read and gives life changing information without seeming "preachy". Anyone who wants to encourage their children or grandchildren to follow Jesus will want to read the powerful messages in this book! You will learn interesting tidbits about Billy and Ruth Bell Graham's marriage and raising their children to serve God. I cannot say enough good things about this book! I recommend Jesus Followers to not only everyone who wants to raise responsible children but also to any teenager or adult! I received a complimentary advance e-book from WaterBrook & Multnomah through NetGalley. This is my honest opinion.
Jesus Followers is a powerful, Spirit-led book that I think is excellent! It is everything the title and subtitle expresses and much more. It is about growing in and living out our faith in such a way that our loved ones in the next generation will know Jesus. Anne Graham Lotz and her daughter, Rachel-Ruth Lotz Wright, have written a unique book showing what a genuine Jesus Follower looks like in the areas of Witness, Worship, Walk, and Work. It is easy to understand even as it challenges us to grow. Most important, it is based on Scripture.
In her conversational style, Anne Graham Lotz shares about her faith and life. She compares our lives to a relay race, and how it is our privilege to “pass the baton” to our children, grandchildren, and others. If we do not have children of our own, there are many people to whom we can pass the Baton of Truth that leads to faith in Christ. She shows how the generations from Adam and Eve through Noah’s family in the Genesis 5 genealogy passed the Baton of Truth in each of the four parts of the race.
What do popcorn and chocolate milk have to do with one’s witness? Or fiddlesticks with worship? Rachel-Ruth writes several examples for each of the four parts of the race that she has seen in her family. She shares ways that she herself needs to grow or where she has been challenged. Being part of Billy Graham’s family doesn’t mean they are perfect or were born knowing how to share Jesus with others. Rachel-Ruth says, “You and I don’t have to be professionals. Just Jesus Followers who lead others to Him.” In addition, “If you didn’t have that example in your home, you can become the witness the next generation needs.” After each of her examples is a brief “Creating a Legacy of Witness (or worship, walk, or work)” and “Be a Jesus Follower” suggestion, with an appropriate scripture verse.
I am convinced that what Anne Graham Lotz teaches is consistent with scripture, and that she is firm in what she believes. This is the first time I have read Rachel-Ruth Lotz Wright’s writing and am as impressed with her sincere faith as with that of her mother’s. She has her own style of writing, a great sense of humor, and a passion to leave a godly legacy for her daughters and others. Both her mother’s narrative and her examples from lives of loved ones mesh perfectly.
I could see areas in which I need to grow in faith, behavior, and sharing God’s truth and love with others. Even though there are things I would rather gloss over, I know the authors tell the truth of the Bible with love, even when the truth is not popular. This book could easily be used as a devotional book or Bible study based on how each chapter and example is designed so one can work through the scripture and suggestions and incorporate them into our lives. I highly recommend this to anyone who wants to grow as a genuine Jesus Follower and learn how to share their faith with those around them, including the next generation.
From a thankful heart: I received a copy of this book from the author and the publisher through NetGalley, and this is my honest review.
A powerful read all the way through. Inspirational, full of hope and ideas which the reader can implement in their lives to share the Gospel with others.
This insightful book has twenty-eight chapters divided into four sections: Our Witness, Our Worship, Our Walk, and Our Work. Personal stories from several generations of Billy Graham’s family bring the principles to life. We get the inside story as well as the world view. I felt like I was personally present in the experiences that his daughter Anne and his grand-daughter Rachel-Ruth share. I found it especially meaningful since I came to Christ listening to Billy Graham in 1972 and followed him through the years. Spiritual lessons come across in such an accessible way as the family members live out their faith, even when it’s difficult. I recommend it. I received a copy from the publisher. All opinions are my own. #JesusFollowers #NetGalley
GUIDE FOR IGNITING FAITH IN THE NEXT GENERATION
Anne Graham Lotz and her daughter Rachel-Ruth Lotz Wright have teamed together to provide readers with an exceptional guide for igniting faith in the next generation. As the daughter and granddaughter of Billy Graham and his beloved wife, Ruth, they learned the importance of leaving a legacy of faith. It was from these two that the following generations learned about their faith by what they heard preached and spoken and by what they saw lived before them. Anne Graham Lotz has written: “While we need to speak up and share the truth, a witness that is lived may be even more powerful than one that is spoken. It’s not just what you and I say but who we are that catches the attention of those around us. As you read Rachel-Ruth’s stories, this truth will be fleshed out in living color.” What can be learned from this book can have a significant impact on your witness, worship, work and walk.
This book will encourage you to examine your self and the life you live before your own family and friends. What do others know about my personal relationship with God? It should permeate my being and be the first thing someone recognizes in me. The next thing is, what do I believe about the Bible? Do my family and friends know what I believe about the Bible? What about everyone else I come in contact with? This is the the book that helps you understand the importance of incorporating a lifestyle so that your personal legacy of faith will make a substantial difference to all the generations that follow Jesus.
My husband and I both come from families that made it a priority to teach us about faith and that lived their faith before us - even when it was not an easy thing to do. We have done our best to do the same with our children and spur them onto pass the torch to the generations following. This book will continue to give me wisdom and motivation.
I was provided a complimentary copy of this book by WaterBrook & Multnomah & NetGalley. The opinions expressed here are completely my own and without influence.
I loved "Jesus Followers" by Anne Graham Lotz and Rachel-Ruth Lotz Wright. It was filled with warm, endearing stories of their families lives. An inspiring and enlightening book providing practical insights for helping others to be Jesus Followers and the Graham/Lotz family's committment to God and leaving a legacy for the next generation. Beautifully written.
A great book showing the Grahams as real people with ordinary struggles, who faithfully passed on the legacy of faith to one generation after another.
Jesus Followers is an excellent book encouraging people who follow Jesus Christ to pass their faith on to the next generation. Using real-life examples of how this 'passing of the Baton' was done in their family, mother/daughter author team, Anne Graham Lotz and Rachel-Ruth Lotz Wright share their heartfelt message of leaving a legacy of faith. The premise is that sharing the truth about faith in Christ is not just what one says but it is "who we are that catches the attention of those around us." The book is divided into four parts that deal with Our Witness, Our Worship, Our Walk, and Our Work and the authors go back and forth in each chapter to share examples related to those headings. Subjects are numerous and the lessons run the gamut of humorous to heart-breaking as the women share with their readers as if they were just visiting over coffee. Each chapter ends with a picture from the Graham family photo albums, a Bible verse, and a snippet on how to be a Jesus follower (e.g. Be a good listener, or Extend grace, or Don't hold back, give God everything). Jesus Followers is a book that people who want to be intentional about and successful in passing the Baton of faith to the next generation will not want to miss.
I was given a complimentary copy of the ebook through Waterbrook MultnomahPublishing and was not required to write a review. The opinions are my own.
A personal and intimate glimpse into America’s First Family of faith. Jesus Followers is told with honesty, humor and humility. Anne Graham Lotz and Rachel-Ruth Wright share the passion for Christ that has been lived out before them and passed down thru generations.
