Overall I liked the book. The characters were very well built and I loved the plot.
So I would recommend it.

Thank you Netgalley for this arc!

I feel very lukewarm about A Letter to three witches by Elizabeth Bass, it’s not a bad book, far from it actually, it just wasn’t for me. I can see why other people may like it, it’s fun and cute and you can fly through it, maybe I just wasn’t in the mood for a romance book at that time.

I received this book from Netgalley for a honest review.

This story is about Gwen and her cousins who are witches… except they have been banned from practising magic because of one of their great ancestors. Yet, they are still brought up with magic, required to go to magic camp etc. As a child Gwen’s family adopted a girl called Tannith who, despite trying her best, Gwen doesn’t quite get on with. One day Tannith announces she is leaving and leaves a cryptic letter at each of the cousins houses which leads them to believe by the end of the week someone will go missing. As the cousins try to work out the message they come across more secrets, lots of disasters and mishaps!

This book is a really enjoyable read, I enjoyed the humour and the premise. I loved the character of Griz and the chapters we got to see from the cat’s point of view too. The story has a slow start and then ending was quite rushed. Although I would love to hear the story of Odin and Esme that is talked about in the ending. A fun adventure, with lots of chaos going on.

Although side note: when gluten free is mentioned in a book as a nuisance and the character wouldn’t have the ‘patience ‘ to deal with serving customers (implied: like then) I struggle to enjoy it as being gluten free is not a nuisance but a medical condition for a lot of people who have no choice.

I do want to thank Netgalley for allowing me to read this book. I don't have much to say about this book. It moved to slow and over half way through the book and there wasn't much going on.

The premise of this book is very interesting to me that I immediately requested it upon reading. I am always looking for more witchy books to read and thus, made me have a bit of a high expectation for this one. Unfortunately, that high expectation wasn't met because I did not feel any connection or emotion while reading this book. It's not bad per se, it just did not live to what the premise says and my expectations from it. However, I still see this being loved by other readers.

I think this book is for a very specific type of reader. If you love zany characters and kooky magic systems, with plenty of family drama this book is for you. It just wasn’t for me.

In all honesty romantic comedies aren’t really my jam, unless sarcasm and a lot of wine are involved. However, this one was pretty cute in a Bewitched kind of way.
While initially many of the characters got on my nerves, I quickly found that I was approaching this novel all wrong. Going into this, I expected something a lot more Chilling Adventures of Sabrina (2018) and instead got Sabrina the Teenage Witch (1996). What I mean by that is that I expected there to be a large emphasis on magic, defeating the big bad, and maybe falling in love with a hot guy that likes to commune with Satan every once in a while. The reality of this novel is that it is a lot more lighthearted than that. All the conflicts are fairly minor, the characters are wacky but their motivations are simple, the magic used doesn’t involve blood sacrifices, and the plot feels quick and episodic. If anything, this novel is a contemporary romcom with a little swirl of supernatural for added flavour. Once I came to that realization, I was able to enjoy this book a lot more.
Ultimately, this wasn’t really a good fit for me, but I did like it. I could definitely see someone who enjoys cute comedic storylines really digging this.

Though forbidden to use their powers, magic still simmers below the surface in Gwen's family. When she and her cousins each receive a letter from Tannith, their panic and worry causes their magic to surface making things a bit chaotic in Zenobia.

Not sure what I was expecting, but re-reading the synopsis, I would say it captured the energy of this story. Tannith sent those letters with the intention of wrecking emotional havoc, but I bet she didn't anticipate the magical consequences. There was lots of chaos, hijinks, and over the top events that made this book quite amusing. Fun and light, I laughed often, even if I didn't quite understand all the hows and whys. I had a good time as the cousins coven tried to solve who was hexed while trying to clean up the magical messes they made.

This is a fun, witchy, screwball comedy that was a nice light read. Nasty witch Tannith sends a mysterious and threatening letter to cousins Gwen, Milo and Trudy and what follows is a bit of a madcap story with enchanted cupcakes, accidental transformations of relatives into rabbits and toads, and the thoughts of Tannith’s familiar, grumpy cat Griz.

I received this book from NetGalley in exchange of an honest review...

I thought it would be right up my alley from the synopsis, but it did fall a bit flat. Yes, This book was fun and light-hearted but the plot as a whole felt empty. I was hoping to be pulled into the story instantly and unfortunately I never felt that draw of "What will happen next?" The book had promise and humor, it just was not for me sadly. The authors writing style is fantastic and I'd still be inclined to check out their other future works.

A fun, light-hearted, and highly entertaining read! Definitely enjoyed this one. I love a book with some humor in it! Bravo!

That did NOT go as I expected!

"How responsible should you be for blunders your great-great-grandfather made?"

To be perfectly honest, when I started reading I was a bit bored. Don't get me wrong, the premise was great. Three cousins of a witch family, banned from practicing by the Grand Council of Witches, being triggered in their anxious attachments styles by the nefarious letter of a fourth cousin threatening to steal one of their partners before disappearing. GREAT. PREMISE.

But not a lot was happening, except for everyone freaking out. Until about 35% in and that's when I got sucked in and couldn't set the book down. If I wasn't reading, I was thinking about what would happen next. I was being anxious right alongside Gwen, suspecting everyone to be a Watcher (a Grand Council spy of doom) and wondering how every plotline was going to be resolved. At the end I was counting down the pages, thinking: "What? Only 10 pages left? That just can't be!"

I enjoyed this book more than I expected at the beginning. It's a fun read, made great by Griz's chapters. My God, did I love him. I loved reading his POV, and hated the abusiveness of Tannith toward him. Let's just say, I suspected where he would end up and it satisfied me.

You should definitely pick up this book if you're into witches (or wanna-be-witches that is *snickers*) and a little bit (*snort*) of drama (yes, I'm looking at you, drama queen Griz!). I got The Secret Circle vibes, from Gwen and co figuring everything out. And I loved The Secret Circle when I was a teen.

So all this to say: great read, would totally recommend it! 4 magical stars from me!

I received a free ARC. This is my honest review.

This was a fun cozy paranormal mystery about 3 cousins who find themselves performing witchcraft despite the Council's ruling orherwise. There is a fourth cousin determined to cause the other three misery.

It's a quick, funny read and I await the next in what is sure to be a series.

Note - I received this digital arc for free as a courtesy of Net Galley and Kensington Books, Kensington in return for an honest feedback.

Rating - 3/5

When I first decided to pick this title up, I half expected it to be a mystical Halloween based story - a sort of casual read with magic and romance infused. To sum up - kind of like a Halloween Netflix feel good film. However I hate to say it but the story really didn't meet my expectations.

A Letter to Three Witches by Elizabeth Bass is casual standalone story with a blend of magic, mystery, a touch of romance, marriage drama and so on ( You can kind of get the gist from this). Basically a family drama with chaos ensued on the basis of a single letter that the protagonists trio namely Gwen, Trudy and Milo receive from their foster cousin / Gwen's foster sister Tanith who is kind of like a grey character in the story. So how the cousins who have been banned from using magic due to an error on part of their ancestor resolve a series of problems set into motion by that letter without letting the witch coven or their human better halves know kind of form the basic plot

Overall a neat single time read although it did get a bit chaotic in between with so many sub plots that never helped the story move forward. But the ending made it a worthwhile read.

The story had so much potential for being a great 5 star read as there were few fun sequences and comedic dialogues etc. in the story however there were a few things I felt could have been better. To start with, the arc I received had a few grammatical errors that require work. Secondly too many plotlines which together started to make the entire story a drag without reaching anywhere. This sort of made me dwindle out of interest multiple times across the book. Plus in an attempt to make the story a casual read, the whole story felt like there wasn't single bit of seriousness or foundation given to the mythical aspects. Everything seemed too mellowed.

If you are someone who is fine with a very casual read, then this book is perfect for you. Plus the ending kind of seemed like a cliff hanger to me which looks like there may be a chance for a sequel to be made. Hopefully the sequel might be more eye catching to me !!

The book publishes on Jan 25th, 2022. Likewise feel free to add me on Goodreads, Net Galley, Edelweiss and Book Sirens for more reviews.

Thanks to the publishers, Netgalley and the author for an ARC of this book. I am leaving this review voluntarily.

It's never to late (or early) in my opinion to read a witchy Halloween book. only 10 months to go until my favourite time of the year!

This is a very cute book about a magical family who, due to some ancestral mis-magic-ment that caused the Dust Bowl natural disaster, are banned from practising magic. This is usually not a problem for Gwen and her cousins, Milo and Trudy, but when they get a letter from Gwen's meddling foster-sister, things start to go awry.

I enjoyed this book, although it did get a little messy in the middle when there seemed to be too much happening without the story moving forward. But the magical ending made it a worthwhile read. The dialogue was pithy and the Halloweeniness was on point.

A lot of fun.

This is a fun, light-hearted comedy about three witches who have never been allowed to practise magic. But a letter they all receive changes that, driving them to magic in spite of the rules forbidding them to cast any spells.

The plot is madcap, the characters are quirky, and the romance is sweet. My favorite chapters were the ones told from the point-of-view of Griz, a black cat with a unique and funny way of looking at things. I recommend you pick this book up if you're in the mood for an enjoyable story with magic, mystery, and a touch of romance.

Thank you to NetGalley and Kensington Books for giving me an Advance Reader Copy for review.

I found this to be an entertaining story! Many thanks to Tannith for sending that letter to Gwen, Trudy, and Milo setting things in motion for color changing rabbits, magic toads, missing people, a mysterious aunt, and enchanting cupcakes! Despite the supposed dangers from the council for practicing forbidden magic, I found this lighthearted and funny because I always like magic and even a bit of love.

This definitely seems to be a first book and I would love to be able to dive back into this world to find out more of the history and why the council blamed Gwen's family for causing the dustbowl. I also really want to try one of Trudy's cupcakes, like maybe the Strawberry Bliss ones!

This had promise. I felt it was an interesting premise and I was enjoying it to begin with. I felt it didn’t take itself too seriously when really it’s a book about witches and magic. But I felt it was slow and didn’t really go anywhere, and I didn’t find connections between various plot points. Sadly, this dwindled out of interest for me.

I had a few issues with the story set up, like it didn't feel realistic that entire generations of witches would allow themselves to be banished from practicing magic, but then I remembered that this was fiction and allowed myself to relax a bit. I warmed up to the characters and enjoyed watching the story unfold. I kinda fell in love with Esmerelda the rabbit, and the other various talking animals were pretty funny, too. I ended up having a lot of fun with this one. If you don't ask a lot of questions, I think you will like it, too. This book's specific style and depiction of witches really pushed it from a 4 star to a 5 star book.

I really wanted to like this, but I think I gave it a fair chance. It was moving extremely slow for me, and I think a lot of the plot was filler. A lot of the dialogue seemed unnecessary to me and I was waiting for the mystery to really kick into gear. The author did do a good job of adding some humor though. Maybe I'll pick it up again sometime, but for now, I'd rather spend my time reading something I enjoy:)
