Phoebe Glassman, A mortuary cosmetologist is still reeling from the tragic death of her husband and daughter. I couldn’t imagine having a dead woman Brought in who is her complete doppelgänger. Phoebe is warned that it might freak her out as well what it does though is it light a fire under her to learn more about this woman and the connection to her own life. The plot definitely begins to thicken a captured my attention almost immediately with a emotional aspects. This was definitely a fast read I wanted to know more about what Phoebe would learn and uncover also more about what her mom might divulge what secrets and painful traits are really lingering. I found it very enjoyable and hard to put down I think the one thing that’s really lacked I didn’t really ever feel myself going wow the choices weren’t really amazing which is why I truly love. It was definitely a good read but there was something lacking to make it great for me. I do recommend this for a easy casual read.

I started this one and I had a hard time getting into the book. It just wasn't grabbing me at the time, so I did not finish... I appreciate the consideration!

This book is my top read of the last 2 years!! I didn’t put it down until it was done. I usually give my books away when I’m done, but not this one. This one is on my shelf to reread. Amazing!

3.5/5

I'm not a huge reader of mystery/thrillers but the synopsis for this really grabbed me (though reading the first scene nearly put me off, haha).
The plot was engaging and fast-paced, though it still felt there was a lot of unnecessary fluff that could have been filtered out or replaced. I thought I had a good idea where the twists were going to go, but I was actually pretty surprised, so that was a bonus.
Phoebe was a likeable enough character (for someone grief-stricken), though I didn't feel like I could connect to her personally. Most of the supporting characters were pretty one-dimensional though.
In any case, the writing was fairly easy to read, though it was a bit confusing at times. It was a quick and interesting enough read.
Thanks to NetGalley and Lake Union Press for a copy to review!

I was gripped by this book, it had me thinking that I knew what was coming next and then another twist would appear. It also dealt sensitively with the issues of grief and what it can do to the mind.

My thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for an ARC of this book in return for an honest review.

Mystery-thriller. In Another Light includes mystery, thrills, compassion and a great story. While Phoebe, the Protagonist, deals with the loss of her husband and her little girl she begins to suspect they are alive. Friendships twist and turn confusing Phoebe more. A great, can’t put it down read.

This was a quick read for me because I had to keep going in order to see what would happen next. It is a psychological drama and involves secrets. Secrets that Phoebe must uncover. The mystery was good and it was well written.
Many thanks to Lake Union Publishing and to NetGalley for providing me with a galley in exchange for my honest opinion.

Phoebe Glassman, a mortuary cosmetologist, lost her husband and young daughter in a horrific car accident 3 years ago and is still having difficulty coming to terms with her loss. One day the body of a woman named Pauline Steele, Phoebe's mirror image, arrives in the mortuary and starts Phoebe on a journey that takes her to the edge.

This book moved at a nice pace with many surprises and a sense of foreboding throughout although I wouldn't classify it as a thriller, more of a psychological or domestic suspense. There were times when I was questioning what was real and what was imagination. The characters were relatable and the ending was very satisfying to me. All in all, an enjoyable read. I'd definitely read another book by this author.!

My thanks to Lake Union Publishing and Netgalley for the opportunity to read an ARC of this book. All opinions expressed are my own. Publication Date: October 5, 2021.

Not going to lie this one is a bit different than most. However I feel it’s different in a good way. One that opens your thinking up a bit. It was well written and makes you want to know what is going to happen next.

In another light is an interesting book. It kept me reading until the end.
Imagine being an employee in a mortuary and one of the bodies that cones in is your exact double! 😳

This book is a nice quick read with a bit of a twist at the end.

This was an excellent read that grabbed me from the start and would not let me put it down. I ended up finishing it in one sitting. It moves along at a great pace, has interesting characters that you want to know more about and by the time you are finished reading you cant help but love them. This is a book that has to be on your TBR list, you will not be sorry that you did.

This is the story of Phoebe who is a lab cosmotologist in a mortuary. She lost her husband three years earlier in an automobile accident and her whole personality has changed. One day a body arrives that is a replica of Phoebe. We travel with Phoebe as she traces the life of this clone name Pauline. Every avenue opens a door of surprise and one more piece to the puzzle is unlocked. A great mystery and thriller.

In Another Light by A.J. Banner is a psychological suspense with twists I did not guess, and were rather unbelievable. But nevertheless, I enjoyed the read and it was well written and cleverly plotted. Phoebe was not very likeable but she was certainly an intriguing character. Thank you to Lake Union Publishing, NetGalley and the author for the e-ARC in exchange for an honest review.

I wish I had more to say about this one, but I just didn't like it. . I found it slow. I found Phoebe incredibly unlikable. The twists and turns were just "meh. " Not much else I can say, honestly. Sometimes a book just isn't for you, and that is okay.

3.5 bumped to 4

The book follows the story of Phoebe, a mortician who has experienced a terrible loss three years ago that has left her numb and disengaged with life. Her grief has consumed her to unimaginable levels. She finds comfort in reconstructing the dead and helping families find closure.

One day, a body comes to the eco-friendly mortuary that will change the course of things. Phoebe wakens from her numbness in pursuit to get some answers triggered by this event.

The story is very engaging. I found it difficult to put this book down. Phoebe goes through intense emotions and the writing is so good that you feel them with her. Things that were certain are not, and Banner's writing keeps you on the edge until the end. I struggled liking Phoebe though. I tried turning on my empathy hat, but I just couldn't. My dislike of her did not affect my rating of the story.

I would've liked the book to end before the epilogue. I was satisfied with the resolution of things. The epilogue was alright, I suppose. It closed all loose ends and tied up the story.

I love a good slow burn psychological mystery and the latest from @ajbanner1 was no exception. If you go into this expecting a thriller, it might be disappointing, but I enjoyed this suspenseful novel. It’s a thoughtful, engaging page turner with plenty of twists. As a main character, Phoebe is a character that touched me right away and I enjoyed seeing where this story took her.
This book is perfectly paired with a cold fall day, a blanket and a comfy chair.

I was so intrigued by the premise of this one and was so excited to read it. Unfortunately as much as I tried I just couldn't get into it. I also then tried listening on audio but that wasn't any better for me. Perhaps I'll pick it up at another time but for now DNF at 20%

Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for the early copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

I have enjoyed AJ Banner's stories in the past and was looking forward to this one about a mortician dealing with a mysterious situation. I enjoyed the characters and the story started strong for me. It didn't quite do it for me though, as I found the story kind of hard to believe and it strayed away from what I thought it would be about. I was hoping the story would cover more of the mortician's day to day job.

This was overall okay for me.
