Second in the series, this book was also a light, easy read.
After the events of book 1, Cameron Campbell has been elevated to Laird at the MacDougal keep, and has his hands full dealing with dealing with the fallout from Seoras's reign, and fending off his family's attempts to marry him off. A very capable warrior, he is painfully shy around women, and finds it difficult to talk to them. When his lieutenants discover a underground dungeon full of Irish prisoners, close to death, he is amazed to discover one of them is a woman.
Aislinn De Burgh has secretly stowed away on her father's ship, determined to accompany him and her brother Daran, as they travel to the Highlands to fight for Robert The Bruce, they were ambushed at the dock by Seoras MacDougall's cronies including her father's cousin Clive, and her Father and Brother are being held for ransom at their clansman's keep.
Aislinn is determined to track down and free her family, and uses her fighting and riding skills to force Cameron to promise to find and rescue them. As they travel together, Aislinn and Cameron grow closer, and Cameron finds it easy to talk to her. They talk about marriage and courtship, but when they finally reach Robert the Bruce, he is about to welcome the man Aislinn's father has betrothed her to.
Can Cameron and Aislinn get past this hurdle, save her family and get their HEA?
I enjoyed this book more than the first one, as the main characters talked through their issues and came tro an understanding a bit earlier, this meant they were able to work together to ty and find Aislinn's family and resolve their problems together. It made for an interesting, more pacy read.
I voluntarily read an Advance Reader Copy of this book and all opinions are my own.
This author is one of my favorites because she writes such wonderful historical romances. Normally, I do not like 'historical' because there is too much political intrigue and it is hard for me to place fictional characters in realistic events. That said, this was a phenomenal story, like always.
The hero is awarded.an estate by King Robert and as the hero is releasing the prisoners of war from the dungeons, one of his guards finds out that there is a secret dungeon. They pull back some wretched straw and there is a trap door. They open the door and there is a group of bodies, but 2 are still alive. One is a youth and the other a grizzled old man. The youth is discovered to be a woman. The old man is her beloved guard, and she had stowed away on his boat as he sailed from Ireland to Scotland to help find her father and brother who were taken prisoner. They were relatives of King Bruce and come to help him. Thus begins a wonderful tale of love, intrigue and danger.
One thing I like about this author is the ability to get lost in her stories. I feel as though I am actually there. The development of the charavters is well described. And the back ground and people are so cleverly depicted, it is as if I am watching a movie in my head. This book is easily worth 5 stars.
A perfect fairytale ❤️ it was the kind of book that warms your heart and puts you in this relaxed state.
The characters were definitely loveable, aislinn was one of the loveliest young women I've read about, she was sassy, strong willed and just amazing, and don't let me start about Cameron, he was truly swoon worthy 😁 the way he expressed his love for his woman with always respecting her consent was just beautiful.
The story was really engaging, the love story is one you feel invested in, and the whole ordeal with the lead female's family just added the perfect spice to the novel.
Overall, i really loved it.
* I received an ARC of this book in exchange of an honest review via netgalley and the publisher*
It is always nice reading a story with a different kind of hero and Cameron is definitely that. I loved to watch him slowly come out of his shell.
Loved how one young woman can make such a difference in the life of a young man. Aislinn allowed Cameron to find his confidence and his voice...it was quite beautiful. Aislinn is a good heroine, a woman who can be tough and strong, but who can be gentle and loving. Cameron has been waiting for her his whole life, and once he finds her, it turns into the challenge of his life. No spoiler here, but I can tell you that you will be cheering for this young couple as it appears the world is against them! Enjoy!
A great novel that takes place in early medieval Scotland when everything is very violent and one has to take sides - England or Robert the Bruce. Survival depends on how witty you can be.
Cameron wants to protect the Irish lass who was found near death in the jail beneath the castle. But when he finds out who she actually is he has to protect the headstrong lass who will prove to him she is no damsel in distress!
I really enjoyed this book. Cameron was so endearing with his "affliction". At first I thought I was not going to like Aisliin but the character grew on me.
My Highland Protector by Miriam Minger is the second book in the series and as good a Highland romance as has been written.
Cameron Campbell has just been made a baron as a reward for saving the king’s life. He has cleaned out the dungeons and let all found go free, deserving or not. Then a couple days later a half dozen prisoners were found buried in a pit. Several were dead, but two were still clinging to life. One was discovered to be a female, who Cameron immediately took into the keep. He fell in love with her at that moment. He still was so shy he couldn’t speak to her. That gradually eased, mostly through frustration and anger. She slowly began to trust him, but did insist that he take her to the king for assistance in finding her father and brother, who had been kidnapped before her very eyes.
The journey changed things between the two of them: Aislinn and Cameron. Before the king, Cameron announced to the king that he planned to wed her, surprising all involved. Love changed everything for them. They made huge compromises, not even realizing that it was happening. They made numerous friends along the way. Even the king planned around their situation. It was a consuming love story with plenty of humanity thrown in. I loved it.

Cameron Campbell finds himself rewarded with an enemy’s castle after saving Robert the Bruce’s life. He finds prisoners still nearly dead in his new dungeons, then he discovers what they thought was a young man is a young woman. Lady Aislinn De Burgh is an Irish lass, cousin to Robert’s wife, who has followed her father in brother by stowing away on their ship dressed as a boy. Betrayed when they arrived on shore her family is taken captive and most of their men killed. Cameron has always been plagued with shyness especially around woman, but he finds himself especially when angered he speaks quit well to Aislinn. Cameron agrees to help her find her father and brother before they are executed for treason. I love how Aislinn challenges Cameron, it seems to bring out the beast in him. I love their witty banter as they struggle to stay together with forces trying to tear them apart. I love the attraction, history and adventure between them its make an excellent story I’m voluntarily reviewing.
This book describes my husband and I at the beginning of our courtship! LOL I was the loud and brassy one like Aislinn who was found in the dungeon near death, but I was just needing a protector like Cameron Campbell. My husband was shy like Cameron and didn’t talk much at first. He would talk more over the phone, where Cameron would talk using his brother. But, when he found Aislinn there was a connection between them and somehow when they began a dangerous undertaking to locate her family members it became so much more for both of them, but there is always roadblocks!
This is a fantastic book that will keep you engaged and give you more insight into backstabbing of the clans. I enjoyed reading this book and it’s not a heavy book so it’s a great summertime read!
I received a free advanced copy from NetGalley and these are my willingly given thoughts and opinions.
Miriam Minger weaves a tale of true Highland magic. The second book in her Warriors of the Highlands series is just as incredible, if not more so, than the first. From page one I was hooked and couldn’t put the novel down. My only complaint is that I wish it had been longer, and that’s not just because I love her writing but because the length was actually a little disappointing. Feeling somewhere between and novella and a full length book, the story was enchanting and had all the right pieces, it just felt a tad quick. Overall I adored this book and. I can’t wait for the next.
I received a free copy of this book in exchange for my unbiased opinion and honest review.
Cameron Campbell has only been a new laird for four days and is already being hounded by his uncle to marry. Deep in the deepest part of Castle Campbell's dungeon, an Irish lass named Aislinn De Burgh dressed as a lad is in bad shape. Rescuing her, Cameron feels an immediate connection. Events quickly follow that are out of Aislinn and Cameron's control, including falling in love. Now they must fight for their future happiness whether it's against an Irish madman or Scot king. A lot of traveling to and fro and on the run from the hated English and neighboring enemies.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book.
4 1/2*STARS*
I wanted to like this book. I love the description and of course the sexy highlanders. Maybe it’s me but I just could not connect. The story moved so quickly and just felt to unreal to me. Plus I don’t really enjoy the insta-luv romances. It’s just me I guess, but give me some slow burn UST and I am a happy camper! However, have characters meet and a couple of days proclaiming love, nope. To top it off there was a severe lack of heat in this book. We have two virgin main characters and there is no heavy petting or make out sessions. It’s just wham-bam done.
Sorry, but this book and I just did not get along. 😕
This is my fair and honest review, voluntarily given and in my own words, for this ARC. This is a second in a series and I did read the first (mad Maggie has a part in this story too). It is always fun when a writer incorporates characters from an earlier tale into a spin off. Definitely worth a read.

Campbell Castle, Argyllshire
Scotland, 1307
For Saving Robert the Bruce’s life warrior, Cameron Campbell, is given the title of Baron and Lairdship and also gifted him with the Seora MacDougall’s castle. Now everyone is pestering him because of his position as Laird that he must pick a bride due to his new status. Except Cameron is not comfortable around women as he is very shy and introverted. Only his younger brother Conall, is aware of his condition, which brings back the horrible memory and the only time he tried to approach a lass he fancied, as he was totally humiliated! So he was not going to marry any lass until he was good and ready! In reality he doubted that would ever happen!
What Cameron didn’t understand is why the King, Robert the Bruce, hadn’t picked his brother instead since him? As he was quite the lady’s man, he was surprised Conall didn’t have a child in every village in Scotland! Perhaps he knew of a secret of not allowing pregnancy to happen, again another area Cameron had no knowledge of! The Bruce did mention his brother would be rewarded too but he had to think it. Of course Connell was not interested in any type of marriage as he was quite happy going from one lass to another!
Now it is brought to Cameron’s attention he had Irish captives in a pit below! The horrible MacDougall’s had imprisoned them and he wasn’t even aware of! Well they were in a hidden cell that was actually more or less just a hole. This filled Cameron with so much guilt though they had only been in residence for a few days and it was the odor that caused his men to investigate. Most of the Irish had died. They realize they were Irish captives and one teenage lad in trousers, red hair cut short that looks so young and ill. He also heard he was someone special as they were giving this lad their food and water rations to survive. They called for their clans healer, soon realizing this lad was not a boy, but a lass who was hiding her true identity. She was warrior he soon realizes coming to help the Scottish King fight. Most likely so she could be with her family, they knew the Irish has been coming to help fight for the Bruce’s wife was also Irish. Now Cameron moved the lass away from the men in a private room. He stayed with her the entire time praying she would live.
He finds out she is related to the Bruce’s wife as her name is Aislinn De Burgh and also her father and brother were also taken but taken captive who was the leader of this Irish clan. Cameron realized Aislinn is a warrior unlike any Lass has ever met, As she recovers and finds out Cameron’s troubles with women but she wants to find her father and brother. Also Cameron feels they were most likely executed or a ransom notice would have been sent. Cameron agrees to go on this journey and during this time they both fall in love.
Cameron realizes love must be the answer as he soon finds Aislinn is the only woman he is comfortable around. Aislinn also finds this powerful Laird with the kindest heart is the most handsome she has ever met. Cameron also realizes,Aislinn has kept a secret from him. This secret might destroy them both! Will Aislinn be forced to return to Ireland or stay in Scotland and fight for love? Read and find out
Miriam Minger pens another riveting, action packed, page turning ,highland adventure that had me both captivated and mesmerized, yet swept me away in such a delightful, endearing, story! This is the second book in her “Warriors of the Highlands” series as I have absolutely loved both books and looking forward to Conall’s story next! It is filled with all the elements Scottish historical readers love, like a true iconic hero in true history. Robert the Bruce is one of my most favorite heroes in Scottish history. So I loved that true history is weaved with this fictional romance. It is a brilliant read and a book I highly recommend.

I was swept away by this story!
What an adventure! I was immediately drawn into this story when our hero, Cameron, discovers Aislinn in the dungeon of the fortress he's just taken over. He's so painfully shy around women that's it's nearly debilitating, a condition that has left him completely unexperienced in the ways of romance. Aislinn is a warrior through and through, and she proves to be exactly who Cameron needs by his side.
Theirs is not an easy path to forever, though, as she's determined to rescue her father and brother, with or without Cameron's help, and then she has that pesky problem of an arranged marriage to a truly horrible man from which she needs to extricate herself.
The adventure is non-stop in this book, and I really enjoyed every bit of it. The only thing that kept this from being five-stars is that the writing style frequently employs an unconventional sentence structure that drew me out of the story each time. Aside from that, the romance itself is excellent and the HEA was sublime. I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book.
My Highland Protector is the second in a series by Miriam Minger. The first book was okay, but it didn't really do it for me. However, the description for this one really intrigued me.
Cameron Campbell, recently made laird of a captured castle as reward for helping to save Robert the Bruce's life, is a strapping hunk of a warrior who gets adorably tongue tied around women. When he pulls a near-dead Aisleen de Burgh from a dungeonous pit, no one is more surprised than he to realize his interest in her (mostly) supercedes his abject shyness.
Aisleen had been captured by the castle's previous laird, along with other Irish warriors. Her father and brother has also been captured, but they had been taken to a different location. She's desperate to find them.
So shy Cameron and firey Aisleen set of to speak to Robert the Bruce, who will hopefully aid them in searching for Aisleen's father and brother. Along the way, there are a few adventures, and the two grow closer. Cameron decides that he must wed her. Aisleen is of the same mind, so she hides the fact that her father betrothed her to an Irishman.
I really liked Cameron; a powerful warrior with limited experience with women is kind of my new candy. He is clearly both strong and kind, though I'm not sure that I believe that two weeks is enough to fall deeply in love. Aisleen was okay, but I wanted to like her more. We're told early on that she's different from other lasses, and I guess we're supposed to take that to mean she's good with a sword and a natural with horses. But little in the plot happens to support either claim. I do like that she quickly recognizes what a great guy Cameron is though.
Overall, it's a decent book, but it isn't especially exciting or memorable. I'm on the fence as to whether I want to read more in the series.
That said, I received an ARC of this book from the publisher and Netgalley in exchange for my honest opinion, and I'm grateful for the opportunity. Thanks!
My Highland Protector, the second book in the Warriors of the Highlands series, is a captivating romance that follows Cameron and Aislinn as they work together to find her family and evade the clutches of her malicious and manipulative betrothed. After saving Robert the Bruce’s life, Cameron is rewarded with one of their enemies’ lands. Now laird, Cameron feels the weight of responsibility, and when he learns that there are prisoners still in the dungeons, he immediately takes charge and orders them freed. He is shocked to learn that one of the surviving prisoners is not a young man but a woman.
A fierce warrior and fair leader, Cameron is super shy around women, so much so that he can barely speak when in a woman’s presence. However, when he saves Aislinn from the dungeons and helps nurse her back to health, a bond forms, and his shyness slowly fades. Aislinn is a warrior, resolute in her goals of protecting her family, fighting for what she believes in, and having the freedom to make her own choices.
Like Cameron, Aislinn is fierce, and she is also determined to save her father and brother, who she hopes are still alive and being held prisoner at another castle. Aislinn is a fighter and a survivor, and I love her compulsion to help and her quick thinking. She shows such bravery in the face of insurmountable obstacles, and she defies the typical expectations of women. She often puts her own life at risk to help others, much to the protective Cameron’s dismay.
They both also show what it means to be honorable and good, as they work together to help and save vulnerable people. From a young girl on the cusp of womanhood who is threatened, to the kind people that take them in, to other people that they don’t even know, Connor and Aislinn are diligent in their pursuit of fairness and honor. Of course, manipulative and power-hungry people, other warriors, and even family stand in their way, but Connor and Aislinn prove just how strong they really are in these instances. And through it all, their chemistry is fantastic!!
The love story between Cameron and Aislinn is absolutely swoon-tastic. It’s one of the few historical romances I’ve read where the man is as inexperienced as the woman, and it was fabulous. They have such a strong connection, yet secrets, fears, and other obstacles stand in their way. Cameron does not know that Aislinn is betrothed to another, even though she vehemently opposes the union. Cameron is also torn between his duty and loyalty to Robert the Bruce and his love for Aislinn. At several points in the story, you can feel their helplessness as Camron and Aislinn’s fate spirals out of control.
What I love about their relationship is, as they explore the depth of their feelings, they become very honest with each other and they trust each other implicitly. They tell each other things they’ve never told anyone else, and they realize that they are more alike than they initially thought. Cameron and Aislinn have a strong bond, and they both prove that they are willing to fight for each other and their love.
This is a fantastic addition to the Warriors of the Highlands series, and I was delighted when some of the characters from My Highland Warrior made appearances in this book. The main protagonists from the story, as well as some of the secondary characters, support Cameron and Aislinn in their quest to be together. It was great to see what has happened to these characters since the conclusion of the first book, and their roles in this story are fantastic.
Even though characters from the first book are prevalent in this one, you can easily read this book as a standalone. The author provides ample context in relation to these characters that you don’t have to have read the first story to become immersed in this one.
I think readers who enjoy historical Highland romance with well-developed characters and a swoon-worthy love story will adore My Highland Protector. I can’t wait to read the next book in the series and have a feeling that Cameron’s charismatic brother might be the focus. Thanks so much to Netgalley and Oliver Heber Books, and Miriam Minger for a copy of the book in exchange for my honest review.
I really enjoyed this story, it's the kind of Highland story I love to read! Not only do you get excitement and adventure, you also get a hero and heroine worthy of your time:)
Cameron is a Highland warrior who is known for his fierceness but what most people don't know is that he's actually very shy around women and has never experienced a romance! When he saves Aislinn from the dungeon, he feels different with her and she might just be the one to cure him from his disability!! Aislinn, on the other hand, is quite the fighter and only wants to save her brother and father who were also captured.
I thought the story very well written and it kept my interest from start to finish. I've put Miriam Minger on my list of "must read" authors and look forward to reading more of her books.
I received an ARC of this book via NetGalley and am voluntarily leaving an honest review.
