If something seems too good to be true, it probably is. Main character Sarah's new high-paying nanny position turns out to be just that. I don't want to give too much away, but I'll just say there's a reason that the family makes her sign an NDA. This book just gets creepier and creepier as Cross ratchets up the suspense, and I was tearing through the pages to see what would happen. This is a solid 4 star thriller, and if you like thrillers with a domestic setting and don't mind a little creepiness, this is a good one to pick up.
Thank you to Ballantine and Bantam for providing an ARC on NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

At times intense, really sad, and humorous - it’s one heck of a ride! There are many red herrings in this novel -will you be able to tell the good guys from the bad?
Everything about this story, and the way it was written… YES! I loved this story; I could not put it down. I thought the storyline was so unique and new. I felt chills as I was reading. Some parts freaked me out so much that I felt like I was experiencing them myself.
I have read all of Georgina’s books and they do not disappoint.
A prime example of if it seems to be too good to be true, it usually is! Although I figured out fairly early a huge part of the plot twist, the ending still left me surprised! A quick, interesting read that will put you deep into the lives of how the truly upper class live.

Beautifully written novel.
Sarah Larsen finds the notice, posted on creamy card stock in her building’s lobby, one glance at the exclusive address tells her she’s found her ticket out of a dead-end job—and life. At the interview, the job seems like a dream come true: a glamorous penthouse apartment on the Upper West Side of NYC; a salary that adds several zeroes to her current income; the beautiful, worldly mother of her charge, who feels more like a friend than a potential boss. She’s overjoyed when they offer her the position and signs the NDA without a second thought.
In retrospect, the notice in her lobby was less an engraved invitation than a waving red flag. For there is something very strange about the Bird family. Why does the beautiful Mrs. Bird never leave the apartment alone? And what happened to the nanny before her?
Characters were brilliant. Loved this book by Georgina.
Thanks to NetGalley and Ballantine Books Bantam for giving me an advanced copy.
Holy. Shit. What a ride this book was!!! Unfortunately for me, I’ve seen enough horror movies to predict where this book was heading early on but the very end was something I didn’t see coming! Crazy! I was on the edge of my seat the entire time!
Deep in debt and with a wedding to plan, Sarah takes the leap from her waitressing job to nannying for an extremely wealthy family in one of the wealthiest neighborhoods in New York. She gets the job, to her delight, but her fiancé Jonathan is not so sure. After coming home on day three and realizing there is something seriously wrong with Collette Bird and the rest of the Bird family, Sarah has to juggle dealing with the bizarre family and making it seem like everything is okay. After all, she signed an NDA… Things take a turn for the worse as Sarah breaks the contract and the unimaginable happens. Will she be able to stomach handling Collette until she is able to be released from her contract, or will she end up just as crazy as Collette?
I’m not sure why, but the exquisitely rich lifestyle has always been fascinating to me. My guilty pleasure is watching Real Housewives of Beverly Hills or Orange County just to see all of the pretty things. And of course, the drama that’s always entertaining. To read about it though, was a whole other thing! I could see the tapestry and silk wallpaper, I could smell the cleanliness of the 12th story penthouse apartment. I could feel the $5,000 dress that Sarah was eyeing at the swanky department stores. All of it is fun to look at and hear about, but I know I would never be able to, or want to, live a life like that. Everything of value has a price tag and you can’t use it, only look at it. I think the most valuable things in life can’t be bought… but it’s fun to watch someone else do it! That’s part of the reason why I loved this book so much!
Without spoiling anything, the psychological thriller aspect of the story was incredibly well done. You could almost see Collette’s mood swings coming just a second before they happened! You could almost hear Mr. Bird stomping down the hallway to go clean up the mess Sarah or Collette had just created. The pain and desperation Sarah felt for Collette was transferred directly to the reader through the artful use of the author’s writing style. It was exceptional! If you’re down for some serious mental anguish (in a good way), I would suggest Nanny Needed! And of course, discretion is of the utmost importance…
Many thanks for the advance digital copy of this book from Netgalley and the publisher in exchange for an honest review! This book is set to be published on October 5th, 2021.
Really really sick, twisted, silly and I couldn’t put it down! Cross writes over the top characters well and I forgive her the ending on this one. I expected at least two killings in the last few pages. I was ready to step in and help. A rich beautiful woman needs a nanny and chooses Sarah, a young woman with absolutely no experience. Readers know this is a bad sign but our protagonist is thrilled. The further she is immersed in the family the worse this gets and while feeling sorry for the mother we have plenty of villains to suspect. Did I tell you about the four year old Patty the child who needs a nanny? No I didn’t and I can’t. Just read the book, suspend a little believability and enjoy the terror.
Thank you Net Galley for a free copy of Nanny Needed. This was a quick read that kept my interest to the very end. The author grabs you from the very beginning, setting a suspenseful mood. Full of twists and turns that you often don't see coming......all leading to an unexpected ending.
This book was entertaining and easy to read with a clever and undetected twist.
If you are searching for a fun, fast-paced, and interesting read, this is an easy choice. The reason I gave it 3 stars was because I struggled with the believability of the story. A nanny hired by a very wealthy and secretive family with no prior nanny experience ... the mother gifting the new nanny lavish gifts after working just a few days ... the unhinged mother having enough wisdom to sneak out of the house and show up at Sarah's second job and causing a scene ... the supportive and naive boyfriend, who work's as a waiter, digging into the family's past with the intelligence of a private detective ... Sarah blowing off her best friend's text messages after tragedy, etc.
Almost every book requires a little stretch of the imagination and it is part of what makes a book magical but in this case, it felt like there were just too many times where I had to stretch beyond believability to make the story work.
At the climax, the author does try to tie some of the many loose ends up with the 'confession' but it still just didn't work..
Unfortunately, for me, the book just wasn't believable enough to give it a higher rating.
I received a free copy from NetGalley. Without family left, in debt and wanting to plan a wedding, an ad for a nanny job for a rich family seems like the perfect second job even if discretion is of the utmost importance and special conditions apply. Defiantly a lot of mind games in this suspense novel, making it hard to talk about without giving anything away.
Nice thriller with enough twists to keep you guessing. A few plot holes but definitely worth the read. If you like a suspenseful book I recommend picking up Nanny Needed.
This book was a page turner from beginning to end. Very captivating with amazing character development. A couple is caught in so much debt. And then the woman runs across a job that seems too good to be true - a nanny job. And she gets it. But is it really as good as it seems? As the truth starts to unravel the woman begins to wonder what was in all those pages of the contact that she signed on day one. I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
OMG What just happened? Crazy, creepy, fantastic tale! Starts out strange and just gets weirder by the minute. Huge twist at the end - didn’t see that coming!
I received a copy of this book from NetGalley and the publisher in exchange for my honest review and opinion. WOW! This book grabs you by the arm from the first page and holds on tight until the very last page. At times you feel like your heart is going to pound out of your chest as you quickly keep reading to find out what is going to happen. I loved every single moment of this book and this author! READ IT ASAP!
Thank you Netgalley, Ballantine Books, and Author Georgina Cross for this ARC.
I was intrigued by the front cover, the title, and then the back jacket blurb. I knew I had to get my hands on this one. I was not disappointed.
We meet Sarah, a young woman trying to start a new life and family with her fiance Jonathan in the heart of New York City. And, no doubt, it's a tough gig. Money is tight and wedding plans have been pushed to the side. But, of course, like an angel dropped down from heaven, Sarah finds a flyer in the foyer of their apartment: Nanny Needed! And so, her troubles begin.
Without giving away any of the juicy bits, I'll tell you, this book was non-stop suspense. It only picks up speed and hikes up the tension. I struggled to put this one down. And by the end, I was gasping for air.
Cross is a new favorite thriller author, that's for sure.
A soapy, high-drama thriller that will leave fans of the genre salivating.
Sarah Larsen thinks she's found her ticket out of her dead-end job when she finds a notice in her building's lobby of a couple looking for a nanny, especially when she finds out that the family lives in a ritzy Upper West Side neighborhood and are willing to pay Sarah several times what she's making. But it quickly becomes apparent that Sarah's new job might not be the dream-come-true she thought it was. For some reason, Mrs. Bird never leaves the house, and the family's eccentricities become increasingly more concerning, their secrets more dangerous. Especially, since no one seems willing to tell Sarah what happened to the nanny before her. Too bad Sarah signed an iron-clad NDA, making it impossible for her to discuss anything about the family with outsiders, even if their secrets are endangering her own life.
This tightly plotted, and fast-paced thrill ride had me glued to its pages from beginning to end!
Thank you to Random House and Net Galley for the eARC of Nanny Needed by Georgina Cross.
Nanny Needed was a quick and enjoyable read! Sarah is in debt and doesn't know how she will pay her bills. She works as a server in a restaurant but decides to take a position as a nanny. When Sarah arrives at her interview for the nanny position, she is offered the job and it's an offer she can't refuse. Sarah will be paid extremely well if she takes the position.. Why wouldn't she take it? She will be working for an extremely wealthy family. Seems almost too good to be true! Well, it is too good to be true! Sarah soon notices that Collette (the mother) is acting strange. As a matter of fact, Collette isn't allowed to leave her penthouse. Why is this? Sarah overlooks these strange behaviors because she is excited to meet Collette's 4 year old daughter Patty. However, Sarah soon discovers some interesting information about Patty as well as the prior nannies. Patty decides that she no longer wants to be the nanny. But it's too late!!!!!! There's no way to get out of this. Just what the heck is going on in this house? You're going to have to read to find out.
This was a quick read. Overall I really liked this book. Nanny Needed releases on October 5, 2021
A clever, tense at times, "nanny" thriller with quick chapters that lead up to an unexpected ending!
this was a quick read, an entertaining read, i guessed most of the twists but still enjoyed it despite it being a bit overly dramatic and wrapping up too quickly. much more time needed to be spent on the ending
