At the interview, the job seems like a dream come true: a glamorous penthouse apartment on the Upper West Side of NYC; a salary that adds several zeroes to her current income; the beautiful, worldly mother of her charge, who feels more like a friend than a potential boss. She’s overjoyed when they offer her the position and signs the NDA without a second thought.

In retrospect, the notice in her lobby was less an engraved invitation than a waving red flag. For there is something very strange about the Bird family. Why does the beautiful Mrs. Bird never leave the apartment alone? And what happened to the nanny before her? It soon becomes clear that the Birds’ odd behaviors are more than the eccentricities of the wealthy.

But by then it’s too late for Sarah to seek help. After all, discretion is of the utmost importance.

I will say, Sarah Larsen had me wanting to shake her so many ties. I would have run and not looked back. All this insanity and she stayed. In the end, such a crazy thing, she remained day after. day. Sarah and the Birds had me reading to the the last page. I would say it never slowed down . Very good read .

This book almost lost me by 25%--by the late stage of its planning, then first ‘twist’ was so obvious as to be downright painful--but grabbed me again by 35%. After that, it was a wild ride to the finish. This is the sort of book I'm tempted to call a train wreck--not good, but hard to look away from--but I think I have one better. It's like watching a compilation video of "Karen" moments. You're not happy that such horrible things are happening, or that these awful women exist, but since they do you sure are glad they've been caught on video and made available for you to stare at. That's the feeling I had the whole way through the book. Go into this one with the willingness to suspend some disbelief and just go with the flow, because that current is going to take you on quite the trip.
Random side note: the whole way through I heard all of Colette’s lines read in the voice of Parker Posey, circa “The House of Yes,” and I think it enhanced things nicely, to be honest.

New author to me! I was super excited to be granted my wish to read this book! I couldn’t put it down!! Even though I guessed the first major twist, which I did try talking myself out of, because I couldn’t imagine it being so, I couldn’t stop reading as I wanted to see where Georgina was going to go with this story!! I also guessed one of the twists near the end. But this was a super fun book to read!! Kept me interested the entire time!!

Wow! This is the 1st 5 star NetGalley read for me in gosh knows how long..so many twists and turns that actually surprised me , which is very hard to do. Such a great suspenseful book. Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for a free copy in exchange for review.

This book is about Sarah, who gets a job working for a wealthy family as a nanny for their 3 year old daughter. They're paying her well, and she needs the money to get out from under her mountain of debt, so she signs the NDA without asking questions. Soon after she starts the job, she notices just how odd all the members of the family are, and she feels like something just isn't right. But due to the contract she signed, she is stuck with the family for at least 3 months, and is hoping she can make it out of this job in one piece.

This book was a quick read for me, because I was enjoying it so much and wanted to know what was going to happen next! After every weird turn I wasn't expecting, came another wild turn. I really enjoyed this book and was rooting for Sarah the whole time, she was a very likable main character that I could get behind. I did not see the ending coming at all, and was shocked at what happened!! I haven't read anything like it!
This is my first book by this author, but it most certainly won't be my last!!! Thank you for the chance to read this ARC!

Sarah and her fiancé are barely scraping by in New York city, especially with all of Sarah’s outstanding bills. But they’re happy. They are both working as server’s at a decent restaurant, making do with their tiny apartment. So when Sarah finds a posting in the apartment’s lobby for a “nanny” position in a very posh neighborhood, she figures she can likely do that during the day and still keep her job at the restaurant—pay off the bills and maybe even have some extra for the wedding. But working as a nanny for a family who demands the utmost discretion (an NDA is even signed) turns out to be a lot more work than Sarah planned. I found the start of the story to definitely hold my interest; however, by the middle of the book I was already figuring things out…and by the end I was left with too many loose threads. 3 Stars (Rounded Up)

The old adage "If it seems too good to be true, it probably is..." would have been good advice for Sarah Larsen to heed as she interviewed and accepted a job as nanny to the Bird family. But who could refuse the offer of far more money than she could ever make in her current waitressing job to watch after a 4-year-old in the penthouse apartment with a housekeeper, chef and the child's mother around to help? Sarah soon finds out that the job is a bit more complicated than it seems, and the contract she signed is a little more binding than she would like. Nanny Needed is suspenseful, with a big twist at the end, which I did not see coming. I could empathize with Sarah's inner conflict, wanting to get away from the family, yet feeling a loyalty and responsibility toward them. The storyline was a bit of a stretch, somehow I do not think the deception would have been able to go on as long as it did (someone would spill), but once I suspended that bit of disbelief, I enjoyed the book.

Creepy page turner, I read this one within 2 days.

This one will keep you guessing until the end, wrapped up well, with lots of twists in the end.

Nanny Needed by Georgina Cross is a fantastic thriller with twists I did not see coming. Sarah has a dead-end job that she would love to escape and that dream is realized when she applies for and gets a nanny job. The salary is unbelievable and the mother of the child she will be caring for is very nice to Sarah. Sarah soon started to learn there is something very off about this family. Great thriller with interesting characters and plot.

When we first meet Sarah Larsen, a 25 year old woman living in New York City, she is trapped "...on a hamster wheel" riddled with debt from her Aunt Clara's medical expenses. Upon her aunt's death, she is forced to drop out of college and work mindless jobs serving alcoholic beverages to tourists at Virginia Beach. Sarah ultimately moves to New York where she meets her fiancé, Jonathan, who is the bright spot in her life. They both work at a restaurant in the East Village but Sarah's past debts overshadow their future.

This quandary is the launching point for "Nanny Needed" by Georgina Cross. Sarah finds a flyer posted in their apartment lobby for a Nanny position on the Upper West Side. The job comes with the caveat of "special conditions." Despite the vague wording on the flyer, Sarah decides to interview for the position because they desperately need the money.

Collette and Alex Bird live at this swanky address with their almost four year old daughter, Patty. Collette's stepson, Stephen, is an occasional visitor. He does the final interview and ultimately presents Sarah with a lucrative offer that she can't refuse, but she must sign a contract and her discretion is heavily emphasized. Giddy with her good fortune, Sarah hastily signs the contract and looks forward to her first day with Patty.

Upon starting the job, Sarah finds more questions than answers as she becomes enveloped in the secretive world of the Bird family. As Sarah begins to unravel the conundrums of Collette Bird's life, she is shocked and appalled but finds herself trapped by a binding three month contract for her unwavering dedication. Cross presents a very far-fetched but entertaining crackerjack of a story that also emphasizes the underlying sadness of a woman who is unable to reconcile loss in her life.

Sarah starts working for The Birds as a nanny. They lavish her with gifts and tons of money to stay. She signs a nondisclosure agreement before she even know what is going on.

Was this book creepy like everyone says? Eh I wouldn’t call it creepy….crazy yes. This wasn’t very believable to me but I’m giving this 3.5 rating because I didn’t see the ending coming.

Overal this is a solid read.

Sarah is drowning in debt. Working at the same restaurant as her fiance Jonathan, they are barely surviving. When she sees an advertisement for a nanny, it seems like this job might help her pay off her bills and start planning the future. The fact that she has zero experience doesn't phase her one bit, after all, how hard could it be to take care of a child? She interviews for the job with the very wealthy Bird family.
An extremely generous salary, set hours that won't interfere with her waitress job, a loving and devoted mother, and just one little girl to watch. Her lack of skills doesn't seem to bother the family and they offer her the job. The only catch is an NDA she must sign. She doesn't hesitate, nor does she bother to read the fine print, or get a copy. Do you hear warning bells? No, just me, cause Sarah missed them too!
Sarah discovers a devastating and dark secret almost immediately, and her impulse is to run and never look back. But her contract won't be easy to break, and if she does, all her plans for the future will be lost. She can't tell Jonathan or anyone else the truth, and she soon realizes she is in way over her head.
Holy crazy crackers! The Bird family and their secrets had me furiously flipping pages. They say money can buy anything, but it cannot buy good sense or rational behavior. As Sarah becomes more involved, she may not live to pay off those debts. The ending required some suspension of belief, but I have no problem with that since it was a fiction book. A well-played hand by the author and enough tension to have me holding my breath more than once.

I just finished Georgina Cross’s Nanny Needed and this book is a delightfully twisted domestic thriller. It’s a major page turner and I couldn’t put it down. I liked that the chapters were short, and the writing was very descriptive. I enjoyed each and every page. Sarah Larsen is drowning in debt when she answers an ad about an ultra-wealthy family needing a nanny. From there, the story takes off. The characters are interesting. None of them is particularly likeable or sympathetic, even the main character, but the plot moves quickly and I found myself interested in the outcome. There are so many twists and turns and that ending, OMG! I did not see it coming! The writing was engaging and the story was well plotted out by the author. I loved Georgina Cross' writing style. "Nanny Needed" is a must read if you like suspense novels with mind-games and plenty of surprises. Thank you to Netgalley and Random House Publishing Group-Ballantine for the ARC. Sarah and boyfriend Jonathan both worked as servers at a restaurant in the East Village. They lived from paycheck to paycheck. Hounded by debt collectors and trying to pay off Sarah's Aunt Clara's medical bills, a second job would be most beneficial. A posting in the lobby of their apartment building caught Sarah's eye. "Nanny Needed. Discretion is of the utmost importance. Special conditions apply" Sarah was determined to work for both the restaurant and as a nanny, if hired. Jonathan's thoughts: "What if the family is batshit crazy?" "There was no public listing for this job...Collette Bird, the one hiring a nanny, doesn't have much of a digital footprint...one link...A website for a local children's hospital-the fundraising chair...". The job requirements: Nanny for an almost four year old girl named Patty. "Collette takes her time speaking in a sing-song voice and reaches down to hold the little girl's hand...I like to meet with the nanny candidates first and let Patty listen. Then whoever makes the cut can come back for a follow-up."

Stephen Bird, Patty's older brother explains, "It's comforting for [my stepmother] to have someone here with her and Patty...I think she sees potential in you...didn't seem too concerned with your lack of nannying experience." The job will be a piece of cake. "Imagine an entire family doting on the little girl. Patty never wanting for anything." Collette seemed to be an intense helicopter parent who wanted her young daughter to stay within the penthouse walls.

Sarah couldn't resist when the job was offered pending her signature on a three month employment contract which contained a non-disclosure agreement to maintain the Bird family's privacy. Contract signed! Within a few days, despite a promised weekly salary of $1,200 in cash, Sarah had buyer's remorse, a dark secret having been discovered. Stephen Bird informed Sarah that she didn't look closely enough at the contract. "But I assure you it's something you will learn to tolerate, to work with and respect...We have a system. Each of us has a role...You agreed to a three-month stay." There will be dire consequences for early termination.

"Nanny Needed" by Georgina Cross is a suspenseful, riveting thriller. It was clear that the environment at the Bird penthouse was controlled and contained. "Underneath the manipulation and erratic moods, [Collette] is a deeply lonely woman. A woman in pain." Sarah's pain was of a different sort, "I know I should leave this place, but I don't...I stay put." However, why did the prior nanny leave? Why were Collette and Patty basically homebound? The twists and turns created an unputdownable read with a surprising, unexpected reveal.

While Cross does a good job of setting a suspenseful scene in NANNY NEEDED, the premise, and especially the ending, was so absurd that it made the book difficult to enjoy.

I loved this book! A blend of commercial fiction and a thriller, the characters were so well written and the plot a slow burn. I am rarely shocked by an ending, but I didn't see this one coming so major kudos to Cross. It was disturbing and strange and creepy but completely riveting and I could not put it down. I would highly recommend.

Because it was so unrealistic, I would deem Nanny Needed an entertaining "beach read" since it was an enjoyable escape from real life.

Wow. Georgina has written an amazing domestic thriller! This really is different from every other nanny book I've read. This book has everything--well-crafted characters, a glamorous NYC setting and MAJOR creepy vibes. Just when you think you know what this book is about, there is a huge plot twist that sets up an amazing ending.
