Thank you @netgalley for the e-ARC of NANNY NEEDED!
Summary:
Step into the wealthy world of the Upper West Side in NYC. A non-disclosure agreement, specific house rules and a generous compensation package. What’s NOT to love for Sarah when she applies for the Nanny job and is immediately pulled into a wild world of the ultra wealthy. She soon learns of the many Nanny’s before her and needs to know what happened to them.
During the week time constraints are plenty, needing my own nanny I don’t get much time for indulgent reading. That changed tonight when I finished NANNY NEEDED! A thrilling read with easy flow and a captivating plot that will pull any book lover out of the mid-week reading slump.
I blew through this book in a single sitting on a plane and LOVED it. Definitely going on my 2022 Summer Reading Guide.
Good book with a solid story. Definitely some twists you do not see coming at all. I liked the characters as they were written and you felt like they could all stand on their own.

Sarah Larsen sees the notice, posted on a creamy card stock in her building's lobby. It only takes one glance at the address to tell her she's found her ticket out of a life of long hours waiting tables for little pay.
The job seems like a dream come true: a glamorous penthouse apartment; a salary that adds several zeroes to her current income; the beautiful, worldly mother of her charge, who feels more like a friend than a potential boss. Sarah is overjoyed when they offer her the position, signing the NDA without a second thought. These are important people, after all--they can't be too careful about who they hire.
But there is something very strange about the Bird family. Why does the beautiful Mrs. Bird never leave the apartment alone? What happened to the nanny before Sarah, who disappeared under mysterious circumstances? The odd behaviors Sarah initially dismissed as the eccentricities of the wealthy now seem foreboding. Like there is something their all hiding, something much darker and more sinister. But by then it's too late for Sarah to seek help--she's become complicit in their secrets.

Stop what you are doing/reading and get this book. So incredibly good. This story was fast paced and so entertaining. It gives you such a creepiness vibe the entire time. It also has short chapters which I LOVE and amazing twists at the ending! I will definitely be looking into the other books @georginacrossauthor has written!
This novel has already been released but thank you @netgalley, Bantam / @randomhouse , for gifting me this E-ARC.
First, thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for granting me an ARC. Sarah is broke, but ambitious. She is suffocating in debt and barely making ends meet as a waitress when she comes across an ad for a position as a nanny. She begins working for the Bird family with a very strict 3 month contract and goes in knowing the job requires “discretion”. Unfortunately, the full picture will not become clear to her before the contract is signed…
I enjoyed this book and felt the pacing was well done. I did have some issues with the ending though, as the suspension of disbelief it requires was quite high. Still an interesting read. I’d give it 3.5 / 5.
A young relatable character? Check. A wealthy family with secrets? Check. A fast paced, suspenseful thriller, check.
I love a good thriller and Georgina Cross knows how to do it. I often find myself losing interested halfway through a novel, but Nanny Needed kept my attention from beginning to end. It was everything I was hoping it would be, plus more.
Well, that was just bonkers! Nanny Needed is unlike any other nanny book out there. Sarah is swimming in debt, barely making ends meet as a waitress when she comes across an ad for nanny position. The salary is too good to pass up, and she just has to sign a contract which states that discretion regarding the Bird family is required.
It is honestly hard to say much without spoiling the book. I actually didn't care for Sarah, but found Collette Bird to be a very interesting character. I found myself most interested in the parts of the book where she was involved. Just know that this story requires the reader to suspend belief quite a bit, but despite that, it is still a compelling story and one that definitely held my interest. Once I decided to let go of reality and go along for the ride, I was invested in the story and definitely wanted to see how it would all turn out. My biggest issue came with the ending and the manner in which the big reveal was shared, and for me it was a big issue. For that reason, 3.5 stars rounded down.
Many thanks for NetGalley and the publisher for providing me with an advanced eARC in exchange for my honest opinion.
Nanny Needed is a fresh take on the traditional nanny story. When Sarah starts working for the Bird family, she's told that discretion is required, and is given a contract to sign. Without any spoilers, some red flags emerge that alert the reader that something is off; Sarah needs the money though, so she keeps the job. As secrets are revealed in this fast-paced thriller, it will keep you guessing and turning pages!
I loved this book. It kept me hooked and had twists and turns that were both unexpected and well written. I barely put it down, just racing to figure out what was happening. I would definitely recommend to a friend.
This book was alright. I liked the premise, but the execution needs a bit of work. Other than that, it kept my attention and was quick to read.
Ooooooh, I really enjoyed Nanny Needed, by Georgina Cross! This creepy, atmospheric story is set in a fabulous penthouse in NYC. With no nannying experience, and drowning in debt from her late aunt's medical expenses, twenty-six year old Sarah is hired to be the nanny for the well-to-do Bird family, specifically to look after little Patty, who is almost four years old. When the dream job comes with a strict contract, a non-disclosure agreement, and more than a few threats from the men in the home, Sarah worries that it is too good to be true. It turns out, reality is so much worse than Sarah could have imagined.
I loved the descriptions of the penthouse, especially Patty's playroom. The author included so many details, right down to the furniture in the dream dollhouse; I felt like I could picture the rooms and the toys in all their splendor. The character descriptions were also very vivid: I could imagine exactly how the characters looked, for example when they were dressed up for a grand party; I could feel Sarah's emotions as they swung from overjoyed excitement to horror to despair. I could almost hear Mrs. Bird's crazed meltdown in the impressive toy store.
Amazing descriptions are really just the bonus on top of the twisty plot; let me be clear that this is a thriller! Wow - I was hooked from the start and had to hold on for this entire wild ride, especially that ending that threatened to blow my mind. Taking in the twists, the utter creepiness, and the big finale, and I am hooked on this author, who was new to me! Nanny Needed is a psychological thriller like no other I have experienced. I will definitely be seeking out more Georgina Cross, and I highly recommend Nanny Needed to anyone who loves a thriller.
Giant thanks to NetGalley, Ms. Cross, and publisher Bantam for an advanced copy of Nanny Needed in exchange for my honest review.
This book was one wild ride but I certainly enjoyed it. There is a cleverly crafted plot with memorable characters. The author reveals things at her own pace, but. Sarah was just a little too naive in the beginning.
Many thanks to Random House Publishing and to NetGalley for providing me with a galley in exchange for my honest opinion.
I absolutely LOVED Nanny Needed by Georgina Cross. I was totally engrossed by the twisty thriller and did not want to put the book down. This was such a fun book that kept me on the edge of my seat. Every time I thought I had it figured out, I was wrong. Looking forward to Georgina's next book.
Thank you to NetGalley and Bantam for my copy in exchange for an honest review.
I’m a little late to the party with this book, but I made it and am ready to talk about it! This book was crazy, actually it literally was.. lol
I’ve read a few nanny thrillers, most ending with a deadly love affair between employer and caregiver, and was excited to see this wasn’t like any I have read before. Nanny Needed was more about more then the nanny. It was about loss, mental illness and the lies we tell with the best intentions. Don’t get me wrong, this wasn’t a tear jerking sob story, it is an insanely twisty read.
I did not see the twists coming. I’m not sure how you could have predicted where it was going. Only a few chapters in, the story gets creepy. I predicted a ghost child, then some sort of Munchausen Syndrome, but not what actually happened. It was really well thought out.
I really liked this book. Georgina Cross is going to be a writer to watch.
Nanny Needed was a wild ride. This is something I typically enjoy in a thriller, but in this case, I feel the author missed the mark, each twist being either predictable or completely outlandish- no middle ground. You really have to suspend your disbelief a lot more than I typically like, as Sarah accepts a nanny position for an elite Manhattan family. But up in the penthouse of the fancy building, things are not as they seem and Sarah quickly finds she may be in over her head, not even factoring in her lack of experience with children.
The generous salary quickly increases and turns into a bribe, and even blackmail given the contract she hurriedly signs. But staying on at this position and involving herself with the Bird family may prove more dangerous than Sarah ever could have imagined.
Between a mother with intense psychological problems, a hot-tempered workaholic father, and a step-brother who is manipulating Sarah at every turn, these people have issues. And that's before Sarah ever meets her charge, the three-year-old Patty who is the reason she's there in the first place.
The reveal was a bit Scooby-Doo styled, as other reviewers said, and I found this took away from the effect. Also, I never entirely felt the stakes were that high, things were certainly creepy, but I never really felt any sense of danger for Sarah until suddenly it escalated to a place I never thought they'd go. Overall, the pacing didn't add to the reading experience at all.
Many thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for the advance copy.
I loved this book! It was such a page turner. I was able to finish this book within a day. It was hard to put down. There were so many twist and turns throughout the story that keeps you hooked from the beginning. I couldn’t put it down and would recommend it to others.
Nanny Needed is a total thrill ride! You'll find yourself saying 'WTH' throughout this gripping and disturbing ride, and it's the perfect read for anyone looking for a total binge read. Prepare to set aside a large chunk of time once you start reading because you won't be able to stop.
Wow! This book. I almost don't even know what to say. This was my first book by Georgina Cross, but I am definitely wanting to read more of her books now. This book was so addicting. I honestly don't know what I honestly thought of most of the story, but when I realized that I had read the first 70% of the book in one sitting, I knew that this book was like no other. Larsen has a lot of debt and is struggling on how to pay it off when finds a posting for a Nanny Needed. When she learns what the pay is, she realizes the job is a no brainer. But before long, she is getting wrapped up and involved in the crazy world of the Bird family. This book had so many twists and turns, my mind was blown as I read this. I did not expect any of it to happen!
I thought that the plot of the book was such a great page turner. The plot of the book was very well written. I truly cannot wait to read another wonderful book from this author. This was a truly great book.
