“When Sarah Larsen answers the Bird family’s advertisement, her life changes overnight.
The job seems like a dream come true, nannying in a glamorous penthouse apartment with a salary that adds several zeroes to her current income.
Sarah signs an NDA without a second thought. These are important people, after all – they can't be too careful about who they let into their home.
But all too soon she realizes there is something very strange about the Bird family.”
Sarah and her boyfriend, Jonathan, live in NYC and are barely scraping by. So, when Sarah sees an ad for a nanny for a family who lives on the Upper West Side, she decides to apply, even though she has no prior experience. When Sarah is offered the job, she’s thrilled. She will be required to sign a nondisclosure agreement, but the pay is astronomical, considering what her responsibilities will be, and the penthouse apartment where she’ll be working is luxurious.
But, all too soon, things begin to unravel and Sarah finds herself entwined in a situation that leaves her very few choices. This book is the epitome of the old saying….”if it seems too good to be true then it probably is”.
Nanny Needed is suspenseful, moves at a good pace with plenty of twists and surprises to keep a reader engaged, and the writing is well-done. The characters are interesting but many of them lacked depth or definition. Nanny Needed is a quick read and an entertaining thriller. It’s 3.5 *s rounded up to 4.
Many thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for providing a copy of this book for review.
This was a bit of domestic thriller with psychological thriller mixed into one. It kept me guessing which is hard to do. The story was written well. It was a fun ride!
Sarah becomes a nanny for a loving and wealthy family. She soon learns that it’s more than she bargained for.
I enjoyed the book. I thought it had a nice pace and enjoyed the twists and turns
Sarah has a a fiancé and a job. He has a job as well. They want to get married with a usual reception and so forth.
However, they barely make enough to pay the bills which include her deceased Aunts medical bills.
Then Sarah finds a flyer advertising for a nanny needed. Not expecting a lot, she calls and gets an interview and lands the job. It seems great, the pay is mind blowing. The hours are perfect to keep her current job as well. Only thing is that she has yet to meet the child she has been hired to nanny.
And things get very weird from there. Can't say much as this was written with a pace that makes you keep reading even when you are sure it is ridiculous, this couldn't happen. And when the end comes...it hits you like freight train. Complete shock. Never saw it coming.
I'd like to thank NetGalley for allowing me this ARC in exchange for my unbiased review.
I'm a huge fan of wealthy family dramas, thrillers, etc. Books like this with glimpses into that lifestyle, especially when it involves those hired in, keep me going. If you love shows like Downton Abbey and Dynasty, this is a book for you.
I love psychological thrillers. So when I read the blurb for Nanny Needed, I knew that this would be a book that I would enjoy.
Nanny Needed is a story about Sarah. Sarah is living with her boyfriend in New York City and barely making ends meet when she finds a flyer in the lobby of her building. The flyer is for a nanny position in a very affluent area of NYC. Throwing caution to the wind, Sarah decides to apply and gets hired, much to her surprise. But she soon regrets her decision when she finds out her nannying position isn’t what it seems. What is going on in the Bird house? What secrets is Mr. Bird trying to keep from coming out? And how does Sarah figure into everything?
Nanny Needed is a fast-paced book, but it does start slow. There is some lag towards the middle of the book, but it was expected. With what happened and Sarah’s state of mind, I wasn’t surprised by it at all.
I liked Sarah. She started the book as overwhelmed but happy. When she saw the flyer for the nanny position in her lobby, she thought it was a sign, and she was thrilled that she hit it off with Collette. After signing NDA’s and agreeing to a 3-month trial, she realizes what her job would be. Then everything hits the fan. I don’t think that I would have dealt with everything as well as Sarah did. She had some fantastic coping skills (in hindsight, I am not surprised).
The thriller angle was interwoven with the mystery angle, and they were both very well written. There were a few twists in the plotline. One twist I saw coming and called it the minute that Sarah interviewed for the job.
The other major twist, I didn’t see coming, and I was floored. I had to take a break to process what I read. That is how insane the twist was!!
The end of Nanny Needed was almost anti-climatic but perfect. I enjoyed that it not only ended the way it did but there was practically no resolve when the twist was revealed. I will say, without getting into spoilers, that I understand why Stephen did what he did. I would have wanted to know too, but what it cost everyone was almost too much. And poor Sarah!!!
I would recommend Nanny Needed to anyone over the age of 21. There is language and mild violence.
This book was great! I highly recommend it. It was a non stop page turner! For sure will read more by this author!
A fun, twisty, almost gothic domestic thriller that will remind readers of the movie "The Boy." A few plot holes and some characters behaving in manners that defy logic, but all in all a quick, fun read.
**3.5-stars**
When Sarah Larsen finds a job posting in the lobby of her building from a wealthy family looking for a nanny, she thinks it may be just the break she needs to get out of debt. Sure, it says, special conditions apply, which is a little suspicious, but she's never going to make headway in her bills with just her waitressing gig.
Applying for the job, she can hardly believe it when she makes it through to the interview stage. Even more unbelievable is the family home, a penthouse on the Upper West Side. This is exactly what she needs and she gets it!
The Bird family is extremely wealthy and cherish their privacy, therefore, Sarah is required to sign an NDA, which she doesn't think too much about. The pay, the work hours, the minimal job requirements, it all seems a little too good to be true. And y'all know, if it seems that way, it's because it is!
It doesn't take long on the new job before Sarah realizes something is very off with the Birds. Very, very off. Although the other members of staff aren't completely willing to talk with her about the family, the little she is able to pick up indicates there have been a few nannies before her, the last one departing suddenly. What happened to them? What would make them leave such a seemingly prestigious placement?
Nanny Needed is one wild ride. Getting to meet the Bird family was quite the jaw dropping experience. Oh wow, the secrets we keep. Sarah got into it deep. I can't believe how long she stayed into it, but there we go. Throughout it all, I was hooked, I'll admit it, like a moth to a flame.
Rich people drama is a trope I love. While this was a bit far-fetched, it still kept me entertained. Particularly the second-half, which I read it one sitting. I think if you are looking for a fun, fast-paced, Lifetime movie-type read, this would be a good one to pick up. Even though it most likely won't be super memorable for me, it kept me engaged the entire time I was reading and that's a great thing!
Thank you so much to the publisher, Bantam, for providing me with a copy to read and review. I definitely look forward to picking up more from this author!
Solid 4.5 stars for me!!!
I really enjoyed this book! I was sad when I had to stop reading because I needed to know what craziness was about to happen next and believe me, this book is jam-packed with crazy! I was constantly saying WTF to myself. Could this all be true??? Nanny Needed will have you gripping your book and flipping as fast as you can. This was my first Georgina Cross book and it won't be my last!
Thanks to the publisher and NetGalley for my advanced readers copy in exchange for my honest review.
Super quick read that keeps you engrossed the entire minute. Every time you time you think you have the plot figured out, you’re wrong! Great mind blowing thriller!!

this was one of the best books i have read all year. the tension and suspense built with each chapter and the ending was EPIC. you know something isnt right with these characters and their dynamic by OH MY i didnt expect to have happen what ultimately unfolded. this was my first by this author and definitely wont be my last.
A total thrill ride from start to finish!! Loved it! The twists and turns were very satisfying and the characters were intriguing. I think I read this in two days, I couldn’t put it down.
What a crazy ride. Even though it seemed like it would be a predictable story, I did not see where it was going in the end. Left on a bit of a cliff hanger, I was definitely wanting to know where it would go next. This is a perfect book to escape with.
Thank you Random House/Ballantine and Netgalley for this ARC!
The crowded psychological thriller genre has no shortage of “nanny thrillers,” and this one does not stand out— at least, not for the right reasons. Perhaps if your suspension of disbelief is more trained than mine — say, doing backbends over whole chasms of believability — “Nanny Needed” might work for you. For me, it does not. At some point, the gentle reader just has to say “Nope!” This book went way past my Nope-point and now I’m actively annoyed.
That said, thank you kindly to the publisher and NetGalley for the opportunity to provide this honest review of the book in exchange for my complimentary digital copy.
So wow this book takes you through a lot of feels. You can quickly figure out the issue with the new position but trying to figure out what will happen next is a little more challenging. You have to allow yourself to let go of logic and reason and just enjoy the story for what it is, a bit of a thriller with a whole lot of crazy thrown in. I had a feeling that I knew how Sarah fit into the Birds life and honestly I was disappointed in the ultimate ending. Not that it wasn’t well thought out and well written I just wanted a different ending. It was good, not great but definitely worth reading. I received an ARC through NetGalley and appreciate the opportunity to access this book.
This is my first experience with the author but after being invited to read this one by the publisher, I was excited to give it a try! Financially crippled after her aunt's death, Sarah stumbles across an ad for a nannying job in a swankier part of her beloved New York City. Thinking this might be the solution to her problems, it's not long before the job reveals that what seems too good to be true all too often is actually too good to be true...
Fast-paced and with a rather wildly unpredictable plot, I really couldn't put this one down! the story really takes some startling turns - I only wish that the climax felt a bit less rushed to me. Villains explaining motivations at the endings of books always hits me in the Scooby Doo-vibes... but despite wanting more from the conclusion, I really and truly did enjoy this. I found myself really having a difficult time wresting my attention away from it - it's a definite page turner! I enjoyed the surprises to the plot - though I think by the end, there are a few inconsistencies that would make this a fun discussion starter for book clubs or discussion groups. Plus, I am definitely looking forward to reading more from Cross in the future.
I enjoyed the writing of Nanny Needed by Georgia Cross, but I felt like it strung me along without feeling like much was being accomplished to move the plot along.
