I have a feeling that mermaids are the new fairies when it comes to early chapter books! Pretty true to chapter book formula, but still super cute and very fun.

This was a fun book to read. Marina was nervous about her first day at a new school, but things got better once she made some new friends. While exploring around a reef one day, they stumble upon something strange. It is up to this group of friends to solve this mystery and figure out what caused such massive destruction. As this tale nears its end these friends make an amazing discovery. Kids are sure to have a lot of fun reading this book.

I liked that this story added some ocean vocabulary (animals, parts of ocean etc) and care for the oceans information. A great way for children to learn while still being engaged in a story. I would recommend this for upper elementary. My seven year old was interested at first but started to lose interest over time. She needed a little bit more of a faster moving plot. She loved the characters and illustrations every few pages.
