I just didn't connect with this book at all, or the characters. I thought the book was really slow, and I almost did not finish it. Mel annoyed the heck out of me, and sometimes I just wanted to throw my kindle across the room because of her. The cover and plot sounded so interesting when I requested it, but this one just wasn't for me, sadly.
Terror, mystery, twists and turns are all on board with this thrilling thrill ride of a thriller. Grab a beverage, put on something comfy and prepare for intrigue. Lorna Dounaeva will thill.
The description of this book sounded so good but it was painfully slow. I didn’t care for any of the characters and found the book to be pretty boring. The book had secrets and a twist but it was all bland. If you haven’t read many thrillers, this may be a good book for you but if you’re like me, it just isn’t that intriguing.
Thank you Netgalley and Inkubator Books for the ARC copy. As a twin myself I was attracted to the premise of this book. Sadly I found the characters really lacking in depth and interest, especially the main character, Mel, who I wanted to hit over the head and say "grow a spine." I found a lot of the book to be dull but I do have to say the ending left me gaping and looking forward to a sequel!
This wasn't a bad book! I was intrigued from the beginning. The characters were good to follow and read about! I like the plot it was very well written with good settings! The whole book was good!
The Wrong Twin by Lorna Dounaeva is a fast-paced and twisty rollercoaster of a read that pulled me in almost immediately. Ms Dounaeva is a new to me author, but I will certainly be following her going forward.
Mel is returning to the UK from Australia in an effort to put some space between herself and her newly estranged husband, Peter. Her twin sister Abbie is living in their childhood home, and Mel is looking forward to spending some quality time with her. When Abbie fails to meet her at the airport, Mel dismisses it as an oversight and is willing to forget about it. But when Abbie's behaviours do not mesh with those of the sister she remembers, Mel begins to wonder what is going on in her twin's life that would explain why the sisters have grown so out of synch.
This is an intriguing read that will undoubtedly require the suspension of disbelief on the part of the reader, but it is nevertheless enjoyable and engaging.
Many thanks to NetGalley and Inkubator Books for an ARC.
Okay, if you want a quick summary of this book, i'd tell you:
The book started so weakly, the lead character, Mel, was so lame and pushover to a fault, there wasn't much happening in the first 50% of the book, it was literally just the everyday life of Mel and her strange sister.
The story starts to get some volume in the next half, secrets are slowly getting revealed, and finally, we get some action.
But to be honest, the twist wasn't that powerful, it was so underwhelming, and after the first twist is up the book just went on poorly, it felt like it was done just to be submitted before a deadline.
Didn't like it at all.
* I received an ARC of this book in exchange of an honest review via netgalley and the publisher*
The Wrong Twin was a bit of a slow burner at the beginning but once it got going wow and the twist at the end was fantastic - I definitely did not see it coming.
Thank you to NetGalley and Inkubator Books for my ARC.
The book started with Mel returning home from a failed relationship in Australia and lands on her twin sisters Abbie’s doorstep (after Abbie failed to pick her up from the airport). I couldn’t quite click with Mel’s character at the start of the book. However it quickly escalates and Mel notices big differences in her twin Abbie’s behaviour. This is when the book started picking up for me after quite a slow start. Half way through and I was gripped, loved the explosive ending and for that alone I give this book a ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
This story started off really slow, I honestly felt like it was chick lit at first. But then as I read on it real interesting, real fast...because Abbie seems different and Mel just can't seem to figure out why.
I didn't like any of the characters in this book, I found Mel to be a pushover and pretty naive. I hate when books do that...makes it harder to believe what is going on. Eventually, in the end, Mel earns my respect though.
What I liked most about the book was the surprise twist at the end. That alone makes the book deserving of the three stars.
When I first started the book I was hooked. I did not believe that twist in the book. I would have not guessed that. It is an easy book to read for me. Loved the writing style and I would read another book of hers.
Thank you Netgalley and Inkubator Books for the eARC.
Mel has left her husband and Australia after 20 years and returns to England to the home she grew up in where her twin Abbie still lives. She's uneasy, though, because her sister is not the same Abbie she was used to. She's distant, neglects her supposedly beloved dog, is hostile and no
longer the outgoing person she used to be. Mel is confused and hurt and when a strange man breaks into the house, she's scared. This isn't the homecoming she expected.
I got a bit frustrated with her; she seemed to make a lot of bad decisions and I felt so sorry for the dog, Otto.
Things rapidly come to a head: she might lose her house to Abbey, lose her job and possibly her life. The truth about Abbey is stunning and the ending had my jaw drop...whoa! Could this be the start of a series? I hope so, because I'd like to see a resolution to the situation Mel and Otto find themselves in.
Definitely recommended.
I love this thriller it was extremely fast paced and incredibly well written. I enjoy the plot immensely and I thought characters were extremely interesting to relate.
