This sampler is awesome, I read thrillers and these all sound so good! The sampler includes:
- Hello, Transcriber:
Is a captivating mystery suspense debut featuring a female police transcriber who goes beyond the limits to solve a harrowing case.
- The Missing Hours:
From a distance, Claudia Castro has it all: a famous family, a trust fund, thousands of Instagram followers, and a spot in NYU’s freshman class. But look closer, and things are messier: her parents are separating, she’s just been humiliated by a sleazy documentary, and her sister is about to have a baby with a man she barely knows.
- Enola Holmes and the Black Barouche:
When a young professional woman, Miss Letitia Glover, shows up on Sherlock's doorstep, desperate to learn more about the fate of her twin sister, it is Enola who steps up. It seems her sister, the former Felicity Glover, married the Earl of Dunhench and per a curt note from the Earl, has died. But Letitia Glover is convinced this isn't the truth, that she'd know--she'd feel--if her twin had died.
- These Silent Woods:
A father and daughter living in the remote Appalachian mountains must reckon with the ghosts of their past.

Thank you to NetGalley and Minotaur Books! This is my honest review.

Hello, Transcriber by Hannah Morrisey is the first book featured in this sampler from Minotaur Books. It's about a woman named Hazel Greenlee who has just been hired to be a police transcriber. The beginning was a little slow, but it definitely picks up in the second chapter when someone confesses to hiding a dead body. Hello, Transcriber is being released on 11/27/21 and I'm looking forward to reading it then.

These Silent Woods by Kimi Cunningham Grant is the next book featured and this one was already on my to-read list. It's about a father and daughter who live in seclusion in the woods. Once a year, a friend of the father's brings them supplies, only this year he doesn't show up. This book should be on EVERYONE'S to-read list! The first chapter is about their daily lives, what they do, what they eat, chickens, and I could not have been more enthralled. The writing is absolutely fantastic. I hope I get approved for the arc of this. Either way, I will definitely be ordering a hardcover copy of These Silent Woods, out 10/26/21.

Next up is The Missing Hours by Julia Dahl which has a release date of 9/14/21. This one starts with a bang! A girl wakes up in her dorm room after a drunken night with no memory of the night before. The teaser chapters barely scratch the surface of the story from the synopsis given. The Missing Hours seems like it will be a slow burn, filled with twists and turns. I'm definitely can't wait to read this one.

And finally, a new entry in the series from Nancy Springer, Enola Holmes and the Black Barouche. I haven't read any of the Enola Holmes books before and I haven't watched the Netflix movie, but I am a big fan of Sherlock Holmes. Even though the books are geared towards a younger reader, I really enjoyed this, and have added the first couple of books to my to-read list. Enola Holmes and the Black Barouche comes out on 8/31/21.

Overall, all of these future releases seem fantastic and I can't wait to read them, but my standout favorite is These Silent Woods by Kimi Cunningham Grant. I highly recommend all four books.

Whether you're out of books or just looking for new-to-you authors, this is a great resource. You have enough of the story to give you an excellent flavor of the book being sampled. The book I most wanted to read stopped at the ideal spot...getting me hooked on the story and some of the characters, then stopping just before really taking off (or at least it felt that way). Great way to discover a new read. My thanks to St. Martin's Press Minotaur Books, and NetGalley for providing me with a copy for this review.

This sampler consisted of more thrillers than cozies. There were a few that I found intriguing and I made a note to watch out for them when they are realized. This is a great way to get a taste of several books at once.

What a great way to figure out if I am the right reader for each of these four new books, prior to requesting!
And, three chapters of each is the perfect amount.

Hello, Transcriber-this book is the one that made me download the sample. Although I enjoy Mystery and Crime, I don’t like my stories too graphic so that was my concern with this one. So far, the things being transcribed were fine for me, although I do deplore hunting-especially reading that the neighbor raised a bird and then enjoyed killing it! other than that, the writing is beautifully descriptive. It seems like this mystery will be a slow burn.

These Silent Woods-People living off the grid usually doesn’t appeal to me, and again the book began with animals dying. Probably not a book for me, although I did enjoy the relationship between Coop and 8 year old Finch, who has never known the outside world.

The Missing Hours-CLAUDIA doesn’t remember what happened after 11 PM-but she has a split lip, a black eye, and concerns that a condom wasn’t used. Her sister EDIE has just given birth, and cannot believe that her sister Claudia would attend the birthing classes with her, and then miss the birth of the baby. And, TREVOR, comes to Claudia’s aid, initially-how will he fit in? All three POV’s were compelling and this is a book that I WILL request!

Enola Holmes-I don’t watch a lot of TV as an avid book reader, so I was unaware that this was a Netflix series.
Or, that a much younger sister to Sherlock Holmes had been written! And, she is a sleuth as well! If you think you might enjoy mysteries and crimes solved by a young woman in London’s 1889-this one is for you! Sherlock and Watson make an appearance too!

This sampler includes five long excerpts from upcoming mystery/thriller titles. It will undoubtedly lead readers to add some new titles to their TBR lists. Some books feature familiar characters (Enola Holmes), while others are author’s first books. All look intriguing.

Many thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for this title. All opinions are my own.

The Minotaur Sampler, Volume 3 highlights four upcoming thrillers. I initially picked up this sampler because of the Enola Holmes preview, but I found much more.

Hello, Transcriber is the story of Hazel Greenlee, a police transcriber. She is an aspiring writer who lives in Wisconsin and is desperate to get out. Things change in her life when her neighbor confesses to hiding a body. Suddenly she has an opportunity to uncover a dark story, but at what price? The writing in this book paints very dreary imagery. As both a writer a fan of the Midwest this plot is intriguing.

The Missing Hours tells the tale of missing co-ed Claudia Castro. On the outside she has it all, but if you look closer her life is falling apart. When Spring Break ends Claudia doesn't come back to school. This book is told from several view points. I'm all about thrillers and I have a feeling this book will keep me on the edge of my seat.

I was excited to see a book featuring Sherlock's younger sister, Enola. In this book Enola is tasked with helping a young woman discover the fate of her supposedly dead twin sister. Against her brother's wishes Enola goes undercover. I really enjoyed the Enola Holmes movie on Netflix so I am interested in learning more about the character.

I was given this sampler in exchange for an honest opinion. Thank you to NetGalley and St. Martin's Press for the ARC.

Thank you so much for making these samplers available! They help me to create my TBR lists, making me aware of authors and titles that I might have missed otherwise. As a mystery/suspense reader, I am always thrilled to have this opportunity. I am especially excited to see a peek at the new Enola Holmes. Having been a high school librarian, I have ordered many entries in this series.
