Great story again form this author. I am such a wuss with all this suspense business! Hang on because this one takes some turns. This is a newer genre for this author but she is handling it very well. Great read!
He would protect her from the danger that lurks around the corner. Alexandra Ivy is a master storyteller that will have you on the edge of your seat.
Suspenseful. Entertaining. Mystery. All of these were present in Faceless by Alexandra Ivy. This is the first one that I have read in this series, but have read many others by this author. She has a knack for world building and helping you be invested in her characters within the story. This was a good story, had many elements to make you want to finish and find out “who dun it”. Recommend this book.
This was a very nice surprise for me as i like romantic thriller but i am very picky about it so when i started to get invested in this story I knew this will be good one. It had its moments where it felt a little weak but still i enjoyed it!
Thank you Netgalley for providing the ARC of this book!
Faceless by Alexandra Ivy was a very good book even if it did move a bit slow in some parts. It was a petty good romantic suspense book with an ending that was a pretty big surprise.
I did feel very sorry for Wynter the main character in this book because she learned so many things about how crappy her family was 25 years after her moms death and when she decided to find out the truth about her moms death hell broke out around her and it seemed like everyone she talked to ended up dead. It was very interesting trying to figure out who the killer was and who Wynter could trust.
Faceless gets four out of five stars from me.
Highly entertaining, heart racing and action-packed adventure filled with witty and engaging charters, heart racing twists and emotionally thrilling passion. An edge of your seat emotional roller coaster journey from beginning to end..
Another installment in Alexandra Ivy’s suspenseful and often terrifying new contemporary series has hit the floor and the story is one that will leave you wondering if you can look at the people around you the same ever again. I was surprised when I began this series at just how much I enjoyed it as often these romantic-suspense novels are hit and miss for me, even from my favorite authors, but I have really enjoyed this series so far and look forward to more. Wynter and Noah knew each other as grief-stricken teenagers, but neither has ever really gotten past the trauma that brought them together. Now that Wynter has returned to her hometown she is faced with frightening truths and her past begins to unravel and treachery and death is around every corner. Luckily Noah is by her side and together they seem to be able to overcome just about any danger they face, except maybe the danger they pose to one another’s hearts. I loved seeing these two broken individuals slowly come to terms with their pasts and present in order to be able to build a promising chance at a future together. Noah has finally come to terms with his desire for Wynter and there is no way he will continue to hide from his feelings or let her hide from the draw they feel to one another, even though they are in a truly dangerous situation. He is strong, smart, brave and protective, making him the perfect foil for the villain and the perfect mate for Wynter. Wynter has had a lot of pain in her past, which left her with a lot of issues, but thankfully she is a smart enough woman that she knows a good thing when she sees it. She lets him into her heart and finally comes to see that love is the greatest healer of all. Her willingness to risk her own life in order to find out the truth about her past and her mother’s life and death show that she is a person with convictions and determination as well as dedication to truth, asking her a true match for the honorable Noah. I am dying to know what comes next for the scary-as-hell small Wisconsin town, but I know whatever happens Alexandra will bring the bad guys to justice and give us a wonderful HEA in the process.
Alexandra Ivy is a steady storyteller, with consistent good pacing, character development, and a nice balance of romance and suspense. Faceless was unsurprisingly enjoyable.
Faceless features a suspenseful plot and an amazing friends to lovers romance.
At four years-old Wynter Moore witnessed her mother's murder and has been trying to dull the trauma for the last twenty-five years by keeping busy. Every year on the anniversary of her mother's death, she shuts down her restaurant and returns to her hometown to grieve. But this year when she arrives Wynter receives the old files for her mother's case from the son of the recently deceased sheriff which after reading cause Wynter to question everything she thought she knew about her mother's death. As Wynter begins to look into what happened all those years ago, threats against Wynter begin to pile up. She finds herself turning to her friend Noah Hunter for help and it doesn't take long for their friendship to turn into something more.
The premise of this book, a woman looking into her mother's murder that was never solved, immediately intrigued me. At the start of the book Wynter returns to Pike and runs into Kir Jansen, the son of the late sheriff, and he lets her know his father had held onto the files from her mother's murder before passing them along to Wynter. It doesn't take long for Wynter to begin digging into the case and it quickly becomes clear not everything is as it seems regarding her mother's case. Throughout the book there are chapters from the killer's point of view and you see them become increasingly obsessed with Wynter as she digs into the murder. As the book goes on, the tension and suspense builds leading to an action-packed finale where our characters confront the killer. I was happy with how the suspense plot wrapped up and thought it was very well done.
Wynter and Noah met as teenagers in a grief support group and immediately connected and became friends. It didn't take long for Noah to develop feelings for Wynter and although she felt the same, she didn't want to risk their friendship. However once Wynter begins receiving threats, Noah's protective instincts kick in and it doesn't take long for their relationship to change. I enjoy friends to lovers romances and I thought that aspect was well done as it was believable why they hadn't changed the dynamic previously. The pair's chemistry is fantastic and when their relationship progresses, the steamy scenes are great. All in all, I was happy with the pair's romance and liked how things developed throughout the book.
Overall Faceless was a fantastic read and I'm looking forward to reading the next book in the series, Unstable, when it releases next year. I highly recommend this series if you're looking for some great romantic suspense.
In Alexandra Ivy's Faceless, the second installment in the Pike, Wisconsin romantic suspense series, this would leave you chilled and send goosebumps on your skin. Twenty-five years ago, Wynter Moore's mother Laurel was killed in an armed robbery with a faceless killer. Now on the anniversary of her death, she travels to Pike, Wisconsin, and searches for answers on that unsolved mystery that haunted her to this day. Though she wasn't close enough to her father as she wanted to be, she lived a good life and started her own restaurant Wynter Garden in Larkin, Iowa. She reunited with her childhood best friend, Noah Heller, a conservation officer, who later teamed up with her. But with one clue from the past, it set the path for her to discover the truth about her mother's death and her secret life. Though Noah had always had feelings for Wynter, they both share an unshakeable bond--they both went to the same therapy group since they both lost their parents to a senseless tragedy. And that had brought them closer together than ever before. But, the real killer called the Stranger followed her every move, killing people who might know the truth and reveal their identity, who might stand in their way. The closer she gets to the truth to finding out why someone wanted her mother dead, the more it puts Noah and her in precarious danger until the ultimate climax in the end to take their relationship to another level.
On the anniversary of her mother's death, Wynter learned that her mother's death was not a senseless accident but most likely a possible murder. As Wynter digs into the mystery of her mother's life, she realizes she didn't know her at all and everything is a lie. But somebody else doesn't like the questions that Wynter is asking and now her life might be the next to be taken.
Overall this was an ok romantic thriller. I already knew who the "stranger" (aka the killer/villain in the book) was once the character was introduced but the why was always a little murky. This is the second book in the series, but each has its own main characters, romance and mystery so this can very much be read as a standalone book.
This review will be very short since I do not have a lot to say about this book. Using the word ok sums up my feelings very well, there was nothing that really stood out or captivated me in the story, it was easy to put down and forget about. On the other hand, there was nothing terrible about the book, the pacing was quick when I did pick it up so the story was easy to read. I guess this could be listed as a lazy day mystery read when you are looking for some romantic suspense but don't want to put out too much effort in the story. I liked the first book in the series better and I would give another book set in this same world a shot if there happens to be more.
An interesting read for me, I enjoyed the story but I could guess the ending, and felt it was very rushed
I received an advanced copy from the publisher via Netgalley for an honest review.
I would say this novel was 3.5 stars. I really enjoy Alexandra Ivy's writing and how well she makes the story unfold. In addition to building the romantic tension with Wynter throughout the novel, oh it was spicy! I did not like this novel as much as the one prior, just because I feel like the ending was quite rushed and just ended with a neat little bow. At the same time, I feel like I wanted more information at the ending as well. Regardless, it was an enjoyable thriller of a novel and I liked the subtle ties to the first novel. I will absolutely be picking up any more novels this author writes!
Faceless is a suspenseful and entertaining book. I liked the whole "suspense" elements and how the author kept you hooked. Good writing
I have voluntarily read and reviewed a copy of this title given to me via NetGalley. This was just a wonderful book to read and it was just easy to lose yourself in the story. I can’t wait to read more from this author.
Alexandra Ivy writes interesting books, and this is no exception. The main characters are interesting and believable. The plot isn’t as easy to believe; there were numerous times when I had to remind myself that this was the author’s imagination and just pretend like it could happen. Still, it is at least a solid 4 stars.
This is a voluntary review of an advanced copy.
I read the first book but it is not necessary to read it to understand and enjoy this book. We do get to see Wynter meet Kir Jansen (from the first book) when she goes to Pike to visit her mother's grave.
It was hard to put the book down as I wanted to find out whodunit and there were a lot of twists and turns which make you keep guessing until the end. Secrets are revealed that keep Wynter digging into her mother's murder. This digging results in more murders and Noah and Wynter getting closer. It does seem a bit out of the blue for them to notice each other but with the attacks to their lives, it seems to wake them up to the attraction between them.
There is a HEA at the end and Wynter even resolves the distance with her father so I enjoyed the ending.
Faceless is the 2nd book in the Pike, Wisconsin series by Alexandra Ivy. This book can be read as a standalone should you wish, although it would be better if you read the 1st book for a greater reading experience. I would categorize this as romantic suspense and a friends to lovers trope. Interesting enough plot to keep me engaged although it does have some plot holes which I can overlooked. Will read the 3rd book in this series should it come out.
Very good romantic suspense story! Even though I guessed the killer early on, I still enjoyed the characters, relationships, the progress of searching for the truth.
Wynter is making her annual trip to visit her murdered mother’s grave. She also visits the recently departed sheriff’s grave and meets his son. The son mentioned that he had found some information on her mother’s case while going through his father’s files and offers to give it to Wynter. She starts investigating and with the help of her good friend Noah, she gets a truer picture of her mother’s life. Her mother wasn’t the saint she had always believed her to be. Someone isn’t happy that Wynter is asking questions and bodies begin turning up one by one.
This was an average mystery and even though many of the characters had their motives for killing Wynter’s mother, I knew who the killer was when they were introduced and knew that someone would eventually be locked in the freezer of Wynter’s restaurant. There were a lot of background details introduced about the places and the people but not much depth in the characters. So even though I knew all about Wynter’s farm to table restaurant, the details about her and all the other characters was pretty shallow. As a result, I just didn’t care about any of them. The killer in some instances was very clever but in others not so much. Overall, the story was hard to believe. Why would all this turn up after 25 years? It just didn’t make a lot of sense. Also, the romance was a little too unbelievable for me. This is not a terrible story but it wasn’t spectacular either. Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for giving me an ARC in exchange for a fair and honest review. All opinions expressed are my own.
