Shelly laurenston is the queen of writing hilariously witty and super dysfunctional relationships with all the crazy to boot.
We, of course, get to see some old and very loved faces pop in along the way, only adding the to humour and outrageous shenanigans.
A story with great side characters will always have my heart.
Finn and Mads do not have a smooth sailing relationship, but that is where all the fun is. The bickering, the banter, the interference... the outrageous and dysfunctional.. the steam. It all made me a very entertaining read and made me love these characters all the more for it.
Shelly never does wrong. She took me on a journey, had me invested and rooting for these characters, and in the end, I was sad to have finished.
Did I mention my rib hurt for laughing so hard?!
Side note.. I starting reading this and then life imploded and it go lost in translation. I later picked it up and started again and loved it hard.
Fully aware that Kyle Jean-Louis Parker is not the main character of this novel, but also let's be real, I love that little POS more than I should. So I'm hype whenever he shows up for any reason because when he finally FINALLY falls in love (and its coming don't you mistake that) it's going to be GLORIOUS.
Meanwhile as is common with the Honey Badger books this is less a PNR revolving around one couple and more of a UF revolving around just what it means to get involved with the MacKilligan Sisters.
Practically everyone in this book has been seen before - Laurenston has built a world SO LARGE between the Pride and Honey Badger books that it would be weirder if no less then a dozen familiar faces showed up.
Doubly suspicious if at least one of them wasn't a Smith.
Starting this new chapter with us are the "Black Malone" brothers, who's younger half sister Nat is the half sister (on the father's side, because Freddy MacKilligan is a true slut) of Charlie, Max and Stevie. They want to forget that, but that's never worked out for anyone.
Enter Finn, the second oldest Malone brother and the mostly reasonable, easy going one. What begins as a nice gesture to Mads (one of Max's teammates) evolves into madcap globe trotting adventure very quickly.
As always the highlight of Laurenston's books are her effortless blending of humor, gratuitous yet oddly compelling violence and the genuine warmth of family. Whether its the inside jokes about Max raiding the hives or the ridiculous underestimation EVERYONE has for the MacKilligan Sisters (its almost insulting), this was a fun ride and I can't wait to see who's the next vic...er couple.
Once again, another amazing honey badger book! The story drags you in and keeps you under till the very end. The characters are well rounded and the story interesting and unique.
I adore this series--I forgot I'd gotten the ARC and ended up purchasing this after it was published. Laurenston is good at creating fun, offbeat characters that still feel real, and the interconnectedness of her series means that we get the chance to see how characters look through different points of view and begin rooting for them before their book even begins
I adore Shelly Laurenston's books! Her Badger series is always a highly anticipated read for me, however they seem to be losing their individuality. Don't get me wrong, I would still recommend that you read Breaking Badger, in fact, I have more than once. I just get this feeling of continuing build-up throughout the first ⅔ of the book then BAM!, the problem is solved. I want the nitty gritty details of the fight scene, the smart aleck dialogue that we all love and expect from Laurenstons books. As I said, it's a great addition to the series, I just felt it was lacking a bit of Laurenston's usual oomph.
I love the The Honey Badger Chronicles so much! This is book 4 so I wouldn't start with this one. I would recommend starting with HOT AND BADGERED, which is book one. If you like paranormal romance and/or books with shifters, you will enjoy reading these books.
Yeah! I was right, there's more in this series! Sure, it's not about a MacKilligan sister, but it's about one of the Max's teammates, which really opens up the series for continuing, which is fantastic, because it's wild and crazy and hilarious and I love it!
I really enjoyed getting to know Mads and Finn. Max's team was introduced in Badger to the Bone, but we didn't really get to know any of them, so I was so glad for this story! And Finn was pretty great to read about as well!
There's a lot more going on in their lives besides the romance (obviously there is, that just adds to the chaos! But in this book the romance was almost a smaller part then everything else going on.) because his father was killed, and she has her basketball team, and of course, her own family problems.
There was, of course, the romance. I loved reading about these two, they were really cute together! We didn't get as much time focused on them as a couple like in previous books, which is too bad, but what we got was really great!
I had such a great time reading this book (I always do!) and I'm so glad that there's a whole bunch of potential stories now in this series!
A long time lover of the author’s works, however I felt the author was disconnected from the characters in this particular novel. Still a good read, just not one of her best.
Really enjoyed this adventure. Action packed, emotional roller-coaster filled with witty and engaging charters, dangerous twists and heart racing turns. An edge of your seat journey from beginning to end.
Listen, I have never read a Shelly Laurenston book before, but I wound up reading the whole series after this one.
It's hilarious. I haven't had a good laugh in a while and she did it. Well done.
If you are looking for a sweet romance, go elsewhere. If you are looking for sheer smut, go elsewhere. But if you are looking for some shapeshifter, action-packed romance comedy, give this a go!
Can not wait for more!
4/5 stars
Thank you NetGalley for providing an ARC of this book.
If you are looking for a laugh, you can never go wrong with a Shelly Laurenston book. She is always my go to author. This book is as entertaining as all the others but it felt a little off. The stories all intertwine, even if they are read as a standalone. Maybe with the next one book it might feel more complete or it might of felt that way because I know from past experiences that she is about to branch off with all these new characters. It is definitely worth the read, especially if you have read all other the books and I cannot wait to see what she writes next.
My review never linked I have it up on goodreads. But amazing book by Shelly! She is a master when it comes to spinning a story. Her shifter books will always be my favorite especially her badgers! Can’t wait for more to come out.
I absolutely love this series! The books are over the top, zany, hilariously fun. The outlandish events are rather implausible for the sheer absurdity, and yet it more than works. I can't say just how many times I burst out loud laughing audibly to the point where my family looked at me like I was nuts. They are just that funny, and the absolute perfect pick-me-up for anyone in need of a good laugh. You could be having a terrible week, and these books will be the perfect cure. There's just something so heartwarming about this insanely dysfunction but utterly close knit rag tag group and all the hijinks they get involved with.
This time around featured Mads, one of the badgers on the basketball team. I really enjoyed getting a deeper look into the players and the dynamic of the team, especially Mads. She's just as "feral" as Max, and I loved it. Seeing the lions dance around her was nothing short of hilarious, and I really enjoyed the romance overall.
If you're looking for a laugh out loud escape, look no further than BREAKING BADGER and the entire Honey Badger Chronicles series. Trust me, you'll want to grab this one!
Honey Badgers. Tiger. Short temper. Dangerous. Unit team that is unstoppable and forged on friendship. Shelly Laurenston Honey Badger is a great read with bad ass characters that can be crazy but with a good heart. I was laughing throughout the book for all the yelling and humor of the characters. I would describe this book as a mixture of Crime TV shows with bad guys trying to take down the good guys who love basketball and were the wrong people to mess with! They brought the heat and the story was a great installment from the POV of Max's friend Mads. She is a simple Honey Badger who wants to keep everyone alive and has her own family drama. Finn is tagged along with his tiger brothers. I love Shelly's writing for introducing me to a crazy fun bunch whose team I would want to be on. There is crime, fights, and fun in this book. The book was well written. The story was never boring and flowed great.
The crazy-train has left the station and true fans of Laurenston are happy to get on with this new story. As I always say, those that haven’t ever read a story by this author might find her work a little bit –odd—or maybe the word is abrasive when they first jump right in. But for the rest of us that have be on the journey with her since the beginning, Breaking Badger is just another amazing foray into Shelly’s dynamic and terrifying imagination. Mads is a honey badger, one of the weirdest and most misunderstood of the shifter breeds, but she has her squad and is determined to take them to the basketball championship. Finn Malone is a Tiger shift and he considers himself to be the most level-headed and calm of his siblings even though all three of them are beyond deadly and will kill anything that threatens their family in any way. When Mads and Finn are forced to team up on a mission, in hopes of finding out the truth of Finn’s father’s murder, the antics and craziness never stops. Mads’s squad of crazy-ass honey badgers and Finn’s terrifying brothers and all of their friends are soon trapped in a dangerous game with unknown opponents and their lives are on the line. As they spend more time together though, the heat between them gets more intense and despite the unlikeliness of their connection neither of them can fight the magnetism. I loved every second of this story, with honey badgers on psychotic killing raids, vicious tigers fighting back, kidnappings, and so much more. Mads is so not normal despite her misconception that she is and her weirdness just makes her that much more amazing. Finn is sweet at the oddest moments, vicious when he needs to be defending those he loves, and deadly against his opponents. I am dying to see where this new storyline heads, maybe bringing the other Malone brothers and more Honey Badgers together, which could only be AWESOME. For those that have never read a Laurenston novel I can only say, be prepared for a wild ride, but for the rest of us, kick back with the popcorn and tequila to enjoy it. Fantastic.
Nothing like reading a honey badger book, especially when written by this author. She can make you laugh and cheer all on 1 page. This book is about Mads. She loves basketball. She loves it so much she makes her friends be a part of her team. She also loves going on missions. Some legal some not so legal. On one such mission she runs into the Dark Malones. You will have to read the book to find out the rest. It will be worth it!
I received a complimentary copy of this book from NetGalley. The opinions expressed in this review are completely my own
Shelly Laurenston has done it again. I laughed my way through this book. Her characters are wildly entertaining! The badgers are so unapologetically vicious, you've got to love them!
I loved this book. I am an avid fan of everything Shelly Laurenston/G.A Aiken writes. I am always anticipating the next release and am never disappointed!
This series is over the top and outrageous and I am here for it. I love this series and this author.
Oh, how I adored this book! Shelly Laurenston is a complete master at world-building, humor, and strong characters! Maddie and Finn are adorable and fit so perfectly together - they fit each other so well they almost just fell into a relationship.
As always, the secondary characters are a delight! As a long-time fan of Shelly's, I love seeing glimpses of past characters from her other related series' and I love getting to know her newer characters more. Honestly, there wasn't a thing about this book that I didn't love.
