I loved this book these characters are so fun, It was a very entertaining all my favourites showed up and it was good to see how they were doing. The romance happens in the last part of the book but this didn't take anything away from the story I love seeing the crazy plots and twists and turns this author comes up with.
I can't wait for the next book!!
I enjoyed my visit to this world.
ARC provided in exchange of an honest review.
I received a copy of the book in exchange for my honest review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
My honest opinion on the book: I liked it but kinda disliked it at the same time. Bare with me. My favorite part of this was the fact that this is by one of my favorite authors ever. You can hear her voice and see of humor even in a her worst books. And even one of my least favorite books is a million times better than anything else alive read. That being said, this was a very "meh" book. What I mean by that is I'm having trouble even remembering alot about the main couple together; they were cute but not alot of chemistry. The book could have done without the romance and been fine; which is unheard of in a romance book. Like my main joy of romance books is the romance itself and I could honestly have cared less. But my main issue I it focused on the three badger sisters more than it should have. I love cameos but it had too much focus on them when it's supposed to be someone else's book. In the end would I recommend it; yes if you've read the series and everything else by this author. She does good work. However, in the future this is just going to be a filler book. Enjoyed by fans but not needed in the series.
I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
Omg, omg, omg. Badgers!!!
If you have not read the previous badger books, do not continue with this review, as spoilers will be ahead!!!
After the MacKilligan sisters, the books go on to Max’ teammates. This book particularly is about Mads, the serious, sporty one, with hyena genes mixed with the honey badger. We also read about all the previous characters. I love how confident Stevie has become. She figured out her meds, isn’t as stressed out and found happiness with Shen. Love love love it!
Charlie is still the same badass as she is in all the books, her maternal side was definitely showing, even with Max’ teammates. Funny things, such as all the baking, even helping Mads with stuff by baking sweets. Adorable!
Max is working with her teammates in a sort of special ops team. That’s how they first interact with the “Black Mallones”. (We’ve already met this side of the Mallones family, as the youngest sister of the Mallones is also the youngest MacKilligan sister, as we learned in the previous Badger book). The badgers get left behind by the backup and the Mallones save them. But thanking the Mallones doesn’t go the way the badgers planned….
However, Mads is easygoing and forgives Finn, and offers to help the Mallones with a personal quest. And sparks sort of fly….?
This book has the same quirks as the other books by Shelly Laurenston, I’m a huge fan of all her works, and I always always recommend her books. This one is no different. I read this book so quickly, and then again. I’m currently reading it for the third time… I laugh out loud every time.
I’m still waiting for my paperback ARC, but I’m really really happy to have been given the opportunity to read the book through NetGalley, because I couldn’t wait until the book was officially published. This book does not disappoint!!!!
Yes, honey badger gang is back! Breaking Badger is another hit for Laurenston. Her ability to describe laugh-out-loud shifter brawling, gun action, sports, and the occasional romance scene is one of the best in the paranormal romance genre. Yet, another satisfying and enjoyable romp for fans of Shelly Laurenston and G.A. Aiken's paranormal books.
I was given this book to read by NetGalley. Another great read, from a great author, Shelly Laurenston. Love her writting, and always a must read!
It is extremely rare I ever leave a 5 star review. However, this installment deserves it! It never fails when I read a book from Shelly Laurenston that I laugh hard and usually end up with tears running down my face from it. With my health not doing great lately, her latest book here truly gave me some MUCH needed laughter! Plus it was a wonderful way to keep my mind preoccupied.
Just as the title mentions, we are once again following the characters in the Badger family. There is a slight difference in this story though. Actually, there are 2 slightly different things in this story than how she did the other ones. This one had a little more back story than usual and it was when they were younger. I actually liked it. Helped tie in a few characters, which is probably why she did it. (But, I'm not an author, so what do I know.) And the 2nd thing is the main female character isn't actually one of the 3 main Badger sisters, but a close friend. In all reality, she might as well have been family anyways. While Mads dealt with family "issues", hang with the rest of her gang of basketball players and the "3 sisters", you'll also get to enjoy 3 main male characters in the mix and once again, all Hell shows up and breaks out! There is quite a bit going on in this book and this is by far NOT a bad thing. You also get a small peek at some older characters. I absolutely just Love these characters in ALL of these shifter series Ms Laurenston has written about. (My favorites are the Male Lions and Tigers and of course, the MacKilligan sisters. (Gotta LOVE that last name!)). I can't wait for her next book in this series and I honestly think you will feel the same.
Now you don't need to read all of her other shifter books/series to know what is going on. However, like I mention often, I do recommend you read them just to help you get the feel for the other characters and learn why things are the way they are. If you haven't read the other books in this series, I do recommend it, especially so you can learn more about the MacKilligan sisters. (But again, it is not necessary.) If you do read her way early shifter books/series, you'll get a REALLY good laugh learning about the male lions and why the "shampoo and conditioner" is so important. (LOL Not going to elaborate on that because I don't want to spoil anything!) I strongly recommend this book. HAPPY READING AND ENJOY!!!!
I received a free, advance copy of this book from the publisher via NetGalley in exchange for my unbiased and honest review.
Mads is a honey badger/ hyena shifter and loves basketball. She and her badger friends all play for the Wisconsin Butchers. Her family has tortured her since she was born. Finn is a Siberian tiger shifter and plays on a football team with his brothers. They have been investigating the death of their father. When someone leads them to a trap, along with Mads and her friends, they have to fight to stay alive. Mads backup leaves them and Finn and his brothers rescue them. Mads teammate Max has connections far and wide. The brothers have to talk her into helping them find their fathers killer. Honey badgers and tigers rarely get along but Finn and Mads slowly find a connection. The more time they spend, the more they tolerate each other.
I cracked up from the very first page. Plenty of point of views ( which I’m not fond of ). Some gross eating habits. Lots of shifters. I love these books. There is a slight cliffhanger. Can’t wait to see what happens next.
* Voluntarily read and reviewed this for NetGalley *
I love this series, so much that even my fear of snakes doesn't stop me from reading it. And honey badgers LOVE snakes. The women are crazy and the stuff that comes out of their mouths hilarious. This book is about Mads (honey badger & more) and Finn (Siberian tiger) and I would encourage you read the beginning of the series first, just so you can get to know all the characters. They’re unique & crazy & just plan fun that you’ll laugh out loud from the beginning to the end and then want more when it’s done. I cannot get enough of this series & author.
My review of Breaking Badger by Shelly Laurenston
Action Packed, Hilarious, Plot Twist, and Romance
I always have the best time reading anything by Shelly Laurenston, and the Badger Chronicles don't disappoint. The Badger Shifters are tough, not to be mess with, and are hilarious as they try to lead lives which are never boring.
The Malone brothers, Keane, Finn, and Shay are hockey playing Tiger Shifters. They're called the "Black Malones" because when they shift their fur is black and white with no hint of orange like other tiger shifter. Add in they're huge, angry, and terrifying men on the hunt for whoever killed their father. Fortunately while on the hunt for the killer the brothers rescue Max MacKilligan (honey badger), and her team who are rescuing victims of shifter trafficking. When Mac's tries to thank the brothers, Max is verbally abused, and thrown out of the Malone home. Unfortunately for the brothers they find out that they need Max for information regarding their fathers killer. Max isn't helping. Finn Malone, the calm, and rational one of the brothers, asks Mads (honey badger/hyena) for help to change Max's mind. Assassination attempts, crazy acts which includes trying to get rid of bodies by using a furnace, and to bad those badgers aren't dead, and hilarity takes over. Plot twist, family secrets revealed, and we get to see some of our favorite characters visit like Dee Ann Smith, Celia Malone, and the Dunn Triplets.
I'm looking forward to reading the next book in the Badger Chronicles.
This book was... wildly entertaining!
I know this story is supposed to be about a honey badger named Mads and a fierce tiger named Finn, but... it was about so much more than them! This book had so many people popping in and out, so many perspectives trying to push themselves out there and make themselves heard, so many action scenes that highlighted the madness of everyone that it was hard to ignore everyone else.
At its core, Breaking Badger was about Finn and his brothers wanting to get to the bottom of who murdered their father and looking to the honey badgers for help. However, those badgers don't like to help anyone else but each other. Then there's Mads, who has been terrorized by her family her whole life and we're all wondering when this girl will finally stand up for herself.
I had a whole lot of love for the absolute absurdity that happened in this story. From the crazy and intense action scenes, the hilarity of the banter, the camaraderie between all of the characters, and the slow burn of the romance, I was hooked! The mystery of how the father of the Black Malones is still unsolved and I'm looking forward to seeing what these people do to find their answers.
I read my first Shelly Laurenston book a few months ago and was hooked. Her stories are very well done with great writing. She created a fascinating universe and characters.
I started with the Honey Badger series (this book is the fourth in the series) and found myself quickly reading all of the Pack books (part of the same universe).
I would really recommend her books to anyone who likes urban fantasy and paranormal romances (especially starring shape shifters). But, while these are absolutely paranormal romance novels they also manage to have interesting plots and action.
This book, fourth in the Honey Badger series, was a great addition. The story was good and went at a nice pace. The two leads were characters not given a lot of page time previously, so it was nice to learn more about them and the shapeshifter universe.
I look forward to reading more of Shelly Laurenston’s books in the future!
I have read every book Shelby Laurenston has written and I am excited that I was about to read this one. This book has everything you want in it and it has my mouth watering for the next book.
No doubt, I want to be a badger! Laurenston creates a world of shifters where animal behaviors are reflected in their societies, jobs, behaviors, inter-species conflicts, and romantic relationships - living among the full humans who few are aware the shifters are around. I love how she incorporates behaviors of the real animals into the shifters . Add to that some laugh out loud humor and a bit of heat - and it's the perfect mix. Love this series!
The Honey Badger Chronicles is one of my favorite series by Shelly Laurenston. The honey badger antics are hilarious and wildly entertaining.
I was intrigued by Mads in Badger to the Bone and love that she's paired with a Malone. It was great to see so many existing characters from this world. I appreciated how Mads and her teammates created their own little basketball family.
My only complaint is that I would have liked more on page, couple time with Mads and Finn since there was a lot going on in the story.
It took me awhile to give a review on this book, as I had to keep re-reading it, over and over, in case I missed anything. It was fast-paced and there were many things going on--and every time I get to the end--I'm so sad that I have to wait another year for the next book! I love how this book incorporates the other characters in the Honeybadger series, yet keeps to the main story line with Mads and Finn. I can't wait to read more about the other Honeybadgers and maybe the other black Malones. I can't wait for the book to come out (I have the paperback on pre-order) and also the audiobook.
This was another zany adventure starring honey badger shifters and tiger shifters and a few other shifters too. Mads Galensdotter is a honey badger/hyena mix who is despised by her hyena family. Only her grandmother Solveig who sees herself as a Viking was ever kind to her in a honey badger sort of way. When she meets a bunch of other honey badgers including Max MacKilligan on the bus on the way to middle school, she finds her real family - though, being honey badgers, they don't want to admit it. There friendship grew and Mads love of basketball was the centerpiece.
Now grown, they are on their way to the championships of the shifter basketball league. But that doesn't stop them from getting involved in other ventures. The story in the present begins with them on an island off New York and under attack for some unknown reason. There they meet the black Malones - tiger shifters - who are looking for clues to the person who murdered their father. The Malones save the honey badgers when their evac team disappears. But when Max goes to bring them muffins and thank them, they are thrown out of the tigers' house. Then the tigers find out that Max might be the key to getting information about their father's death...
Between basketball playoffs, football practices, attacks from Mads' relatives, kidnappings and various other events, Finn Malone and Mads fall in love.
The story was action-packed and filled with snarky banter. There were lots of appearances from other characters who have appeared in other books by Laurenston. In fact, there were so many plot threads and appearances that the romance really took a back seat and seemed almost like an afterthought. Still it was a very enjoyable story especially for those who have read other of Laurenston's books and want another look at some favorite characters from earlier stories.
When I started reading Laurenston's shifter series I did not think life could get any better and then she trotted out the Ravens and the Crows. I was sure there was no way she could up that game. Two words. Honey Badgers. I love them so much. I mean you can read any of these books as a stand-alone but it is so much more rich if you know all the players. At the very least start with the first badger book but I am warning you that you are missing so much. I was in the middle of a Maas epic fantasy and I had to stop the minute this ARC hit my mailbox. What is a sword fight to a honey badger losing an eye and having her team mate pop it back in for her with nothing more than "gross Mads."
This may be a new favorite. It has action and romance and lots of humor. I love that there is no instalove like in most shifter novels. These two are friends and just get each other. Lions, tigers, bears oh my but honey badger is my favorite.
Like always this was a fantastic read! This series does not disappoint, every new character and storyline is unique but follows the series perfectly. Love the funny, violent, craziness of every page and of course I anxiously await the next book!
I am loving this series the badgers are so cool and tough. The loyalty of these ladies is amazing it doesn’t hurt that they are all bad ass and are weapons all on there own. Their love of their team and basketball keeps them together no matter what.
Four and a half
Fun with a capital F but maybe not the most romantic story from this author. Look I get that a lot of people read these books for the romance but honestly this time it’s so low key it’s almost under the table, out the door and totally invisible. I just do not care ! I found this book to be interesting, fun and occasionally laugh out loud. These characters are amazing and yes sadly, scarily insane. The way these characters interact and support each other is only to be envied. It’s definitely not PC and yes it’s violent but for these characters everything just works. Straddling the lines between paranormal romance, urban fantasy and fantasy as it does this series and this book keep me smiling and coming back for more. Did I want the couple to be more forward ? Yes is my answer but honestly I loved it so I’m resigning myself to just enjoying the ride and for this reader honestly it’s a joy.
This voluntary take is of a copy I requested from Netgalley and my thoughts and comments are honest and I believe fair
