Saving Galahad is book #6 in Kimberly Cates “Culloden’s Fire” series and is a story that leaves a lasting impression. Everyone who reads my reviews knows I LOVE ANGST - this story exceeded my expectations and then some. The MCs are Nate Rowland, Viscount of Harlestone, and battle weary soldier who had his life irrevocably changed on the fields of Culloden. The female MC is Christianne Slade, born out of wedlock she is often the subject of public scorn, now she defies society and slips into the underworld of the demimonde in attempt to save Nate from the hangman’s noose after he is accused of murdering his wife.
This story has it all — forbidden love, emotionally damaged MCs, murder, mystery, and romance. I am impressed by this authors ability to blend all these aspects together which creates a memorable story.

A historical novel mixing romance and mystery, “Saving Galahad”, by Kimberly Cates (Oliver Heber Books), features a wounded hero and an intrepid and rebellious heroine nursing a childhood crush on him.
I liked the hero and the heroine, and their friends, and enjoyed the affection between them. Christianne’s childish adoration and later adult passion functions as a sort of balm for Nate’s tortured soul.
In a way, I found there was more authenticity in Nate and Christianne’s friendship than in their romance and sex. They were more convincing as long time friends even with all that historically inaccurate informality, than as lovers. It felt as the unrequited love trope was solved too easily with Nate suddenly finding out Christianne’s allure; and the sex scenes seemed too modern and redundant.
I found some parts a bit melodramatic and Christianne’s mission at The Blue Peacock felt, again, a bit unrealistic considering the historical period.
This story captured my heart with the first page. Christianne was a brave child and a strong young woman. She has always loved Nate, her Sir Galahad. Nate is a peer, she is a bastard, which means no future for them. Nate marries, goes to war and returns minus part of his leg. His wife draws away and they are miserable. Then evil happens and his wife is murdered and he is the main suspect. Christianne works to find out who really did it!
No more spoiler here. I can say that every page had me anxious for the next. Lots of family, friends and interesting characters keep this story hopping! Simply brilliant!
Christianne Slade, at fourteen, tried to talk her childhood friend out of marrying his bride on the eve of his wedding. She knew the woman didn't love him. But Nate Roland, Viscount Halestone, named Galahad as a young boy, didn't see his bride's deceit. Eleven years later after losing his leg at Culloden Moor, his life is one of darkness and pain. Then there is his wife's betrayal. When she's murdered at his birthday fete, he's arrested for her murder. Christianne found her body and knows he's innocent. Now her heart knows she must prove it and find the murderer. WOW! I was totally surprised how far she would go to save him. What pain they both had to go through to get an HEA. Be ready for an unexpected murderer. Steamy sex.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book.
A group of young boys form a friendship bond and create their own, Knights of the Roundtable. Nate Rowland known as Sir Galahad and the luckiest of the Knights seems to have either lost his luck or it left him the minute he married Eugenia.
Christianne Slade, his childhood friend begged him when she was only fourteen years old not to marry her because she could see underneath the sheep’s clothing this lady was a wolf!
Troubles arise and bad luck befalls this young man at home and on the battlefield. What else is going to happen?
The author has written a excellent book about deception and the characters are strong and easy to follow within the storyline.
I received a free advanced copy from NetGalley and these are my willingly given thoughts and opinions.
I love the main characters and I did enjoy this story. I haven't read the previous books in the series but you can read them as stand-alone.
I do recommend this
I really enjoyed reading this book by one of my favorite authors. This is a continuation of the Culloden's Fire series but can be read as a stand alone. The characters were full of life with thoughts and feelings of their own. It was full of intrigue, mystery and of course romance.
Nate Rowland, Viscount of Harlestone, was injured in the battle of Culloden, and barely survived. He came home to a woman he married who was not faithful and couldn't tolerate his defect. Eugenie Rowland likes to be the center of attention and admired by any male. She is someone who thinks about her wants and needs especially what the ton thinks. Being the wife of a solider wasn't in her dreams, but Eugenie had to make a choice. When she hold a birthday fete for her husband and shows up with a throng of people, Nate is livid. Things go from bad to worse in an instant.
Christianne Slade has always adored Nate since she was a little girl. He always was her "Galahad" whenever she was in trouble. She would do anything for Nate since his return from war. She sees things that hurt him to no end and she love him so much. His wife is jealous of the friendship between Nate and Christianne that makes her mad.
When Christianne finds a body outside on the terrace, she can't believe it's Eugenie. She has been hurt but eventually the cause of death is murder.
Now Nate is questioned about this and says it wasn't him. Now Christianne must help Nate find out who would want to kill his wife and why.
Lots of romance with passion that makes for a true love that will last a lifetime.
I appreciate Net Galley for this ARC title in which I gave an honest review.
Lord Lieutenant Nate Rowland, Earl of Harlestone, returns home from Culloden Moor, to find that his life is forever changed. With a serious injury which his wife abhors, he finds his marriage in tatters. When his faithless wife is murdered, Nate is the prime suspect and soon comes to believe, that he is being framed. Yet the sister of his best friend, Christianne Slade, gives him support when it seems all others have failed him. Christianne has been in love with Nate, since she was a child, calling him her ‘Galahad’, the perfect knight. When she comes across his wife’s dead body, she is called upon to support him in whatever way she can. However, her background which has always defined her, threatens any possible future between her and Nate.
Two great characters, that are so meant for each other. Christianne is such a strong and determined character, supporting Nate but also doing battle for those less fortunate than her. I felt for Nate, as his injuries have also defined him, but it is through Christianne, that he begins to see a possible future. I loved the unsolved murder and how it played out in this story. Having not read the previous books in this series, I found this an easy stand-alone book to pick up and understand the secondary characters.
I received an ARC from NetGalley in exchange for my honest review.
My heart ached so much while I was reading this story....ached for Christianne and ached for Nate, for all they'd gone through before they reached their HEA. I adored this story and it has one of my favourite tropes, a wounded hero. Kimberly Cates has written a fabulous story for us to enjoy!!
Christianne has been in love with Nate ever since they were children and all she can do is stand back while he makes mistake after mistake in his decisions. As everything comes to a head, Christianne refuses to let Nate give up and will do everything she can to find out who is framing Nate with his wife's murder. This story has everything you could want in a historical romance....a wounded hero, a feisty heroine, suspense, mystery, danger and a love that can never be extinguished.
I received an ARC of this book via NetGalley and am voluntarily leaving an honest review.

Nathaniel (Nate) Rowland, Viscount of Harlestone, had been known as The Lucky Lord Lieutenant who was hurt badly in the Battle of Culloden. Due to his serious wound he has been cuckolded by his cold, unfaithful wife who has been committing adultry. Yet during a party she had given - her cold, dead body is found strangled to death. Of course due to her infidelity to her husband, he is the number one suspicious of her murder! On top of that someone is framing him as a spy, even though he is the last person to ever betray his country!
Christianne Slade has always worshipped Nate Rowland and thought of him as her Knight. Even on the evening of his wedding, her thirteen year old self pleaded him not to marry Eugenie! Now Christianne Slade was born out of a love affair and treated like royalty from her family. As her parents were ‘ the late Earl of Glenlyon and his mistress. Yet Christianne had always been the subject of nasty remarks, gossip and scandal from the ton. Of course the ton has never accepted her simply because she was born out of wedlock.
Christianne is now a full grown woman she knows a match between her and Nate will never happen! As he is a Viscount and is expected to marry a royal, titled heiress out of duty. This is to keep up his families blue bloodlines and of course he and his family needs a true blue blood heir. Christianne’s blood would be tainted and not pure since she is neither titled or from a legitimate birth. She still wants to save Nate’s life, her true Galahad, as she must prove he never did this nor betrayed his country. The problem is Nate is falling for his best friends beautiful sister, plus Christianne is a sweet, sincere, kind, intelligent woman who has every faith in him. Now Nate must make a choice his country or his heart. What shall it be?
Kimberly Cates continues her magnificent Cullodens Fire series with her 6th book. It is absolutely wonderful from start to finish, plus it is a murder mystery, love story. It will definitely keep readers on their toes and wonder who actually did the heinous crime of murdering Eugenie Rowland? A riveting quick paced, page turning adventure filled with all the elements historical romance, mystery and suspense readers love.
A book I highly recommend!
