This is a quick and enjoyable read with quite a few quirky characters. Ben and Serafina have opposing worldviews which sometimes gets them into hilarious situations. I realized early that this was a book that I would read quickly as I had scenes where I laughed out loud. A fun read which left me wanting just a little more.
With hilarious texts between characters and interesting plot, the book Text Wars: May the text be with you is this summer’s hot tug of war rom-com! I really enjoyed their love and hate relationship as the story progressed and all the dramas that came with. It was also nice to see two main characters trying to find the middle ground and learn to understand each other’s passion and life.
I want to thank NetGalley and publisher for approving my request for ARC. I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Text Wars was super fun and enjoyable. I'm such a sucker for a romantic comedy and this book gave me everything I needed. One of my favorite tropes is enemies to lovers and Dineen and Summers wrote this one perfectly.
Seraphina and Ben meet on the set of a morning show and instantly sparks fly....in anger. Seraphina believes in star signs, while NASA Astrophysicist Ben believes in science. However, their chemistry was so explosive they're asked to do a regular segment. The only problem is they don't actually speak to each other and will only communicate over text. Will Seraphina and Ben finally see they they actually are made for each other and that their love is written in the stars or will they be too blind to realize it?
*I was provided an ARC from Netgalley and the publisher for my honest review*
It was cute and fun, but I would have liked more character development, I wasn't entirely convinced but it was nonetheless a cute and easy read
I thought this book was so cute and fun! A really nice romcom that literally had me laughing out loud in the beginning and looking forward to seeing where the characters relationship went. There was great character development from Ben, but I wished we had seen more growth or development from Serafina, by the end to me it really felt like he had drastically changed, and she hadn’t made any effort to meet him half way which was a bit frustrating.
Overall a really adorable read though! I would highly recommend if you’re looking for something light, fun and happy!
I wanted to like this book. I really, really, really did. The premise was so interesting and I was hoping for it to be a nice weekend read with lots of swoony moments.
But, I ended up DNFing it at around the 11% mark when one character said to another that "We can only put you in the dressing room with the other [female] models if you're gay."
I had some issues before that when the male lead described the only woman in his team at work as a scientist at NASA as the only person on their team who talks too much and can keep "both ends of the conversation going." Nobody in their team of introverted men want to talk to the woman, highlighted and underlined in bold when the main lead makes excuses to get away from her chatter and sends her off to another colleague who gives the guy a death glare.
I don't want to read about such harmful tropes being furthered, which is why I decided to DNF the story and move on.
This was a super cute premise, but I'll admit that the first few chapters had me not really liking our heroine. However, she grew on me as the book went on. I appreciated that her people were telling her what I was thinking and that shew as trying to grow with that knowledge. This was a super short and easy read, so I'd highly recommend this if you're looking for a beach or pool read; something light and fun and fast. I'm intrigued enough to go back and read the others in the series and am looking forward to the next one!
Text Wars by Whitney Dineen and Melanie Summers is a delightful and hilarious read. Seraphina is all about astrology and getting ready to expand her popular app by launching a unique astrology dating component. Ben is an astrophysicist with NASA that thinks astrology is complete nonsense. When a popular morning show puts these two together—sparks fly and tension builds. This book is filled with hilarious shenanigans—but also allows the readers to really understand and connect with the main characters. The story of #DrBananaPants and #LibraGrl is worth it and should be on your TBR list this summer.

⭐⭐⭐⭐ 4/5 stars
It only makes sense that this wonderfully nerdy/geeky book be released on May 4th! #MayTheFourthBeWithYou
Ok... yes... I fully admit to being a nerd! I won my 8th grade science fair with a perfect score (still my most prized and biggest trophy 😂), I was in science club, in robot squad club which met right after lunch instead of getting free period, was in the band, and wanted to be an astronaut when i grew up🌙⭐🌍🚀.. I even took physics just for fun because it wasnt a required course 🤣
I also happen to be a hopeless romantic at heart... so when I was given the chance to review this book, I was over the moon! (See what I did there?!) 😉
This book is the perfect mashup of enemies to lovers and opposites attract in a wonderfully geeky romcom!
If you enjoy witty banter and sexy smarties... this book is for you!
There are star wars references, a rhyming drunk, my new best friend who grieves by double fisting donuts topped with whipped cream and of course... romance.
This book is hilarious and relatable and I cannot wait for the 4th book to be released in the near future!
Recommendation rating: 👍👍
(2/2... because... I only have 2 thumbs 😂🤣)
What happens when you put a NASA doctor of science and an astrological business woman on morning TV? Well this book happens and its hilarious.
Seraphina believes you can know and understand someone purely based on their star sign, whereas Ben believes that science is the answer to all questions. So when they both find themselves on morning America for space week it's the begin of a battle of the theories. Ofcourse no romantic comedy is complete without the obvious love story.
If you are look for a fast paced fun easy read this book is for you. Let me just say from Banana Camp to lactose intolerant grandparents this book a really has it all. Honestly this book would work really well as a movie as well as its descriptions are so visual that it's hard not to fully get a clear picture of the scenes that unfold.
Both our protagonist are completely different but also so similar in so many ways using their beliefs as a shield to protect themselves from getting hurt and have such rigid way of looking at the world. Ben finds himself pleasant surprised that Serafina is actually very intelligent and yet still believes in astrology. Their on air banter and chemistry leads to a recurring gig.
I must say some of the funniest parts of this book are the text messages. They had me bent over double laughing so hard. I love the nicknames as well for each person whilst texting.
The book is written in first person switching between Ben and Serafina. I always love a good inner monologue these I must say are some of the funniest. Serafina is my favourite out of the two a straight talker. Ben's inner thoughts also are quite funny. I love it when we know they are both thinking the same thing however say out loud something completely different.
The prose is done so well. I honestly was so invested on how it would all turn out o couldn't put the book down. We all know how romantic comedies end but it is always great to see how they get there. Plus the writers got me invested in the secondary characters. I really hope we get a follow on.
Would I recommend this book? Yes I would!! It's light hearted, easy to read and just so funny. The descriptive writing is done so well and you really route for both characters. Did I love the ending? Not particularly however I don't mind that as it is well crafted
If you like Tracey bloom, Talia Hilbert or Abbi Waxman you will love this book.
I know this review reads like a 5 star book, however I just didn't love the ending. But it's an easy 3 stars. Totally recommend. The authors have written other books in the "text" series and I am definitely adding them to my list.
Thank you to Netgalley, the authors and the publishers for the advanced digital copy in exchange for my fair and honest opinions.
I have always enjoyed books by Melanie Summers and this book co-written with Whitney Dineen is fun and delightful as well. Fun, easy read with lots of laughs, romance and good times. Don't miss this one.
This started out as an amazing romcom read! I loved the back and forth. Even when the characters were infuriating and incapable of seeing eye to eye with one another it was still an easy read that had me laughing and swooning.
This was a classic take on “Opposites Attract”. Seraphina Lopez is a successful astrologist while Dr. Ben Williams works for NASA. Seraphina is outspoken and confident, Ben is a shy and studious type.
What could possibly go wrong?
It was a slow burn but the chemistry was very much there throughout! The scene in the hotel when Seraphina is dreaming? I couldn’t handle it! It was an amazing scene.
This book had me convinced throughout that it would be one of my favourite reads for the month.
Unfortunately, I felt like the ending did not do justice to any of our characters, and it left me unsatisfied after such a good read.
But if you ignore the ending, then the rest of the book was funny and so well-written.
So this book had such a cool plot. I loved the idea of an astrologist and an Astrophysicist and the enemies to lovers aspect. They are both constantly butted heads. Especially Ben who thinks astrology is a bunch of "hooey."
I thought Serafina was a great main character. She was definitely a people pleaser and really didn't like when people didn't like her. I know I for one can relate to that.
Ben was a harder character to like. He was so angry and rude to Serafina right away. He was very stuck in his own ways and I didn't think anyone especially Serafina, deserved it. I get that he had a backstory with his mom getting swindled by psychics and people like that, but he was also so into Sera right away and just mad at himself.
I will say I think Ben did redeem himself for his awful behavior later at the end of the book. And I totally was rooting for them.
I am interested in reading the books before this in the series.
Thank you netgalley for providing this ARC in exchange for an honest review.
This was a disappointing read. Although the heroine is intelligent and ambitious she acts like a control freak, airhead on TV. There is barely any chemistry between the hero and the heroine as they compete on national TV for ratings. I just couldn't get into the story.
I honestly could not get through this book. I pushed to make it to the halfway point. This book seemed completely adolescent, the storyline especially. I was not able to finish this book, but I am grateful that I received an ARC to read.
This book was fine.
I just couldn't seem to get lost in it.
It does have some fun banter between them.
Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for providing an ARC in exchange for my honest review.
Rating edit: 3.5 stars
Text Wars is an interesting love story.
Ben is an Astrophysicist who works in NASA, and Sera is an Astrologer who successfully runs an app called 'Live for your Star Sign'. Drastically different from each other, they are supposed to do an American show together.
It's sweet and funny and romantic, in a very interesting way. I liked Ben and Sera; their differences and the chemistry. The texts they share are interesting and the dialogues are witty.
However, I thought it turned too melodramatic in the last two-three chapters. Nothing is personal, everything is public.
Overall, an interesting, sweet and funny read.
Thank you so much to NetGalley for an arc of this book in exchange for an honest review!
This was such a sweet story. I absolutely love Serafina and Ben. They were so cute together. I love the astrology aspect of this book and I really wish Serafina’s app was real!
I like the pacing of this story even though it did feel like we kind of took and immediate jump off the cliff at some major turning points instead of easing into them. But that aside it was a great story with good timing. I would watch Ben and Serafina on “Wake Up America!” anytime!
Absolutely loved this book. Although the story was bit of a cliché- romance but I thoroughly enjoyed every bit of it. A wide smile was always on my face and Sera and Ben were so cute! I loved the witty banter between the two and the romantic side of Ben was so so cute! The writing was simple and the setting was adorable. All the side characters were too cute and especially Mr. Spock. I loved the enemies to lovers romance but I feel it could have been written more perfectly as at first they were so against each other that the quick attraction and love felt a little too quick. But overall the book was super adorable and perfect for a rainy day with a cup of coffee in hand. Serafina and Ben being polar opposites yet finding love with each other was so heartwarming to read and also, the concept of Astrology and Astrophysics combined together in a romance novel was quite unique and great to read.

This is the first book I have read by these two authors. At the beginning, the point of view between the main characters was a little hard to follow, but it quickly picked up steam. Overall I enjoyed this romantic comedy, sometimes you just need to sit back, relax, and have a laugh. I'm looking forward to reading more from these authors. I received an e-book from NetGalley in for an unbiased review.
