One funny book about a big family with a baby. Once the baby's asleep, all members of the family should stop doing noisy things that can wake the baby. But it never goes well.
A simple thing poured into a book to remind us the power of teamwork to keep a small baby asleep is no joke.
What a hysterical story! Being as my kids are no longer babies, I can look back and appreciate the necessity of keeping quiet-to a point. Here in this book every little thing could possibly awaken the little tyke. Even though baby does wake up, very clever that the older baby comes up with a solution to the problem that has it effect-just not on the baby! Laughed myself silly!!
I received an advanced reader copy for free from NetGalley and am voluntarily leaving my review.
LOVE this and can't wait to read it for my students! This would be a great circle time read, but would be equally enjoyable in small group or individual reading.
The illustrations are bright, vivid, and gorgeous! The rhymes are smooth and easy. Kids will have a great time imitating the various sounds that threaten to wake the baby and it's a great lesson in onomatopoeia for kids ready for that concept.
Many thanks to the publisher and NetGalley for the opportunity to read and review!
Cute story with rhyming words that give realistic things that happen and make noise that could wake a baby. Is somewhat silly because it is unrealistic to be silent when a baby is sleeping.
Anyone who has had a infant will appreciate this book for big brother or big sister. Shhh Baby is asleep. It takes a family together to take care of baby in many different ways and also gives the family a peace of mind and sanity when baby is asleep. I like the culture implications of this book as well. Cultures are different but also the same. We all care if baby sleeps.
Your child will take ownership of being a big sister or big brother in this helpful book.
A special thank you to Charlesbridge and Netgalley for the ARC and the opportunity to post an honest review.
This reminds me a little of the old classic Peace at Last in the way that it uses common sounds in the environment and encourages young children to join in with making the sounds. The story is simple and I think it would appeal to 2-4 year olds .
Baby has finally drifted off to Dreamland and there's peace in the family at last.
"Now don't make a peep...
The baby's finally asleep."
Can a large noisy family stay muted and retain that lovely sense of serenity?
The floor creaks, Daddy's loud belly grumbles, Grammy is busy washing a dirty shirt, Pop Pop's red nose needs a good blow, and sister Shae's hair must be dried, just to name a few distractions. The refrain of "Shhh! The baby's asleep!" reminds everyone to hush so not to wake the wee one up. Does it work?
Just when the family is all calm and settled in guess what happens? Yep, Baby wakes up! The superhero of the story is a great book for everyone to read together. Will sharing a story magically be a fix for the whole family brood and bring tranquility to their home once again?
This fun story will have kids giggling and the illustrations are priceless... colourful, kid-friendly and fun. If families have a baby in their home they certainly can relate. I love the book and highly recommend it!
We follow a hilarious family that can’t seem to stop making noise, even when the baby has just fallen asleep. No doubt baby’s nap doesn’t last long, but she can count on her big brother to put her back to sleep with a book!
The representation in this book is terrific, Elissambura’s illustrations were hilarious, bright, and I feel they told JaNay Brown-Wood’s story visually in a perfect way.
I love how the book shows a multigenerational family who lives together and that each seems to live in harmony. As soon as they realize the baby is sleeping, they join the “silence crew.” After all, we all know what will happen when the baby wakes up!
I had a lot of fun reading this book; it was relatable in all the good ways! I will be purchasing that book for my classroom, and I can anticipate it being one of my fave books to read with children!
Disclaimer: I first read it as an ARC. In exchange for an honest review, I am thankful to JaNay Brown-Wood, Charlesbridge and NetGalley for providing me with a copy of Shhh! The Baby's Asleep.
The rhyming in this book was fun to read! The pictures were excellent, and the story was fun. I loved all the sounds that were described.
A fun and engaging book for children and parents alike. This book would be great for new big brothers and big sisters. It is full of fun rhyming, exciting sound words, and lots of vibrant illustrations. Brown-Wood made a children’s book that is fun for the whole large family!
