This book was absolutely delightful! This is a light-hearted, sweet Christian romance book that centers around Aiden and Camille and their pragmatic, yet romantic, whirlwind courtship and newly-wed phase.
Brides and Brothers is a modern retelling of the movie/musical Seven Brides for Seven Brothers and I have to say that I prefer this book to the movie (and yet the book wouldn't be as entertaining without having seen the movie first so that you could guess how key scenes would be incorporated and then smile and turn the page as you enjoy the similarities and differences).
Character growth happens in every character it seems. I found all of the growth satisfying and unifying. There are so many different romances with their different struggles, so not each could have much depth but I thought the author did a great job of making me root for each couple regardless of the wide scope of the book (summing up 7 romances in one novel is no small feat!) The author handled this by mostly focusing on Aiden and Camille, but also providing little peeks into the other couple's relationships via Camille's snooping/involvement.
The book is set in a small college town up in the "frozen tundra" that is Montana and I enjoyed being immersed in the chaos of a large family and numerous roommates - all single and about to find love.
Definitely recommend this book!

Have you ever watched Seven Brides for Seven Brothers? I watched it all the time growing up, so I knew that I had to pick up this modern retelling set in Cherish, Montana.

Aiden Peterson is the eldest of… you guessed it… seven brothers. After their parents pass away in a car accident, he’s left in charge, meaning he never has time for himself. How can he get his brothers married off and out of the house, and start living his own life? Maybe he can lead by example…

Enter Camille. It’s insta-love and she & Aiden are in it for the long haul after two weeks. What she doesn’t realize is that instead of having a huge home all to herself with Aiden, the house comes with six adult man-children. Camille is not here for it, and decides the solution to her problem could be marrying the brothers off to her best friends.

Yes, the premise is as ridiculous and lovely as Seven Brides for Seven Brothers, and yes, I want to see this as a movie on the Hallmark channel. A quick and light read, this Christian romance was a fun take on Seven Brides for Seven Brothers.

This is such a cute read. I felt like I was watching the movie “Seven Brides for Seven Brothers (Bobby Sherman😊). The story of seven Brothers left on their own after their parents are killed in a car accident. Now all grown up and needing some structure and focus in their lives. Camille, has a computer emergency and her sister suggests Aiden Peterson. When the two meet, the banter begins, and in a few weeks they are married. But Camille soon realizes, she married the whole bunch. Now they need to marry off the brothers. Often each brothers story would be a separate novel, but this is an all in one story. It’s funny and complicated. There is a lot going on, and I didn’t feel quite as connected with the characters as I would have liked, but the story flows well and I thought it was entertaining. Put aside your stereotypical views and just enjoy the story. This is clean Christian romance. I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own. .

This was my first book by this author and it will not be my last! This was a modern retelling of the much beloved classic musical "Seven Brides for Seven Brothers." I am a huge fan of the musical and knew I had to read this book.
The author did a wonderful job brining the spirit of the musical to this story, while still making some minor adjustments for a more modern audience. I loved all the characters, the setting, and plot. The writing and pacing were well done, especially as the author allows the readers to follow each brother as they fell in love. I thought the balance of the characters was well maintained throughout the story. There were so many emotions that this story invoked ranging from laugh-out-loud to cheesy, goofy smile moments and all were compacted into this wonderful story. This was just a very clean and wholesome read that will melt your heart and have you grabbing your popcorn to settle in for a night of "Sobbin women" or "Goin' Courtin!" I can't recommend this book enough especially those who are fans of the musical!

"Love isn’t measured by time but by affection and commitment."

Camille Kelly had all but given up on finding her Mister right but it would seem that fate has other plans for her in the form of computer genius and all round good guy Aiden Peterson. What starts of as a super cute whirlwind romance soon turns into Camille having to deal with a house full of Peterson men.

••

Determined to enjoy her new found marital bliss Camille decides to take matters into her own hands by giving her new brothers-in-law a push in the right direction. Which just so happens to be into the arms of her best friends, after all her younger sister is already dating one of Aidens brothers. After all how hard could hooking up seven brothers with seven brides, right?

••

I absolutely loved reading this hilarious band of crazy siblings and their new match maker sister-in-law get up to a whole host of silly antics! Each and everyone of these characters were amazing! I loved the way they played of each other and that they all had such distinct personalities! It was such a treat getting to see them all try and navigate these new waters.

••

I will say that this book moved insanely fast! At some points I kind of wished instead of cramming it all into one book it had been spread out into individual books for each brother. The girls in 206 were absolutely hilarious and made the perfect counterparts to these boys.

••

As for our main characters; Aiden and Camille were just to cute. I loved that they instantly clicked and fitted into each other's lives so seamlessly. I will say that I wasn't to thrilled that Aiden went into the entire thing looking for a wife to help make life easier for him and his brothers but that quickly dissolve into true love. Another thing that was a tiny bit of overkill was the constant reference to the Bible, this didn't really have much link to the actual story and was kind of just a bit to in your face.

••

Overall Brides And Brothers was a super cute and quirky read that will have you rooting on each of the Peterson boys to get their happily ever after! This book is definitely not to be missed!

I DNF this book.
When I read the blurb it sounded amazing, but I didn't realize it was a Christian romance which are not my cup of tea at all. I gave it a try but then I had issues with Aiden at the beginning and how he only wanted to marry a woman so she would cook for him?
Nope.
I gave it a little longer and they decide to get married after only dating two weeks? Ok, I understood that one a little, They had met previously but it was years ago so point for that, but I just couldn't get into it very well and ultimately had to give up. Sorry.

Brides & Brothers

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I loved this one so much that I have zero notes on it! I know that sounds strange, but when I fall in love with a book so hard that I don’t even stop to take notes, it’s a BIG deal!

I knew going into it that it was a remake of the popular musical 7 Brides for 7 Husbands, but it was fine in a modern and fairly believable manor that it took on a life of its own! Walker did a great job making the insta-love believable. And that cabin… let’s just say that may be my favorite part!

I also really, really, really appreciated how Walker added religious and Christianity into the story. It didn’t seem awkward or forced. It was natural and I loved how the characters relied on their faith to get them through situations. Even if it did mean kidnapping.

This was a sweet, fun, adorable read that you need for any weekend vacation or if you’re snowed in at a cabin in the hills! Just make sure you have lots of cocoa and banana bread!

Here are some of my favorite quotes/scenes:

“Sounds like love is a high priority.” “Love?” Aiden paused long enough to pop a hot fry into his mouth. The word burned worse than the fry. “I’m eating frozen food seven days a week. My expectations are entirely practical.”

“I’ve made my share of mistakes, Aiden. But we’re a family, and I’m not going to give up on us. I’m all in.”

Marriage was more than just living side by side; it was about overcoming difficulties, keeping promises, and striving harder to be what the other person needed. A good marriage wasn’t a matter of chance but a summation of everything both spouses put into it.

But my favorite, because I can relate to it 100% is this one:

When I was twenty-one, I wanted nothing more than to get married. With every year that passed, I became increasingly discouraged that my chances of meeting Mr. Right were slim to none. It wasn’t necessarily so, but in my limited perspective, it felt like it. I wish I could tell everyone not to lose hope on getting married, because the Lord’s plan might take a lifetime to unfold, but it’s ten zillion times better than what we could plan for ourselves. Aiden was worth waiting for. So be patient with yourself. It’ll work out if it’s supposed to.”

This book is snow white meets hallmark meets Christian mingle meet misogyny. I had to read this book like it was a comedy. I don’t want this to sound like a rant, but it upsets me as a reader when women write misogynistic books. There were quite a few things that I could not get behind. There were scenes where the husband said that women make discussions based on their emotions, the girl stated another girl would go far because she was cute and fit for a relationship, and the girl said the husband had to man up when he was emotional. I’m ignoring the part where the girl was misled about their future as she was never told he lives with his billion brothers. Although it was her choice to take on the role of housewife, it was written with many misogynistic undertones. That was the least bothersome piece. I would not recommend this book to anyone and had I not read this as a comedy, and for Netgalley, I would have DNFed.

Brides and Brothers by Anneka Walker

Story Notes
I've been watching musicals of all sorts from the time I was very young. My parents as well as my great-aunt are classic movie fans so I've seen the majority of the major releases from 1930 - 1960. And then Anneka releases the blurb that she is taking the fun and hilarious "Seven Brides for Seven Brothers" and turning it into a modern book for us to enjoy! How could I not be over the moon excited for this story to come into being? And then to find out that I would be able to be on her launch team for it......happy dancing for days! For those that don't know the premise, here's a glimpse of it: Camille Kelly thinks she's past the age when she will successfully find a husband. She's nearing twenty-seven and has no prospects for a boyfriend. She's online teaching for the college but student housing allowance ends on her next birthday. What's a girl to do? A chance meeting with Aiden Peterson due to computer malfunction begins a fledgling friendship and romance that quickly grows deeper. Each of them feel a connection that they've never had before and can't wait to explore. And when Aiden finds out that Camille is soon to lose her home, he proposes a crazy idea - that they get married. Though a bit shocked, Camille is not opposed to the idea. Aiden is everything she ever wanted in a guy, stable in his career, has a home and is a strong Christian. So they decide they will have a Christmas wedding - until Camille's mother throws their plans awry. Given she only has one weekend available until next summer, they will have to get married in two weeks or she won't come. Scrambling to make it work, they pull it together. But Aiden doesn't have time to tell Camille the biggest news about marrying him: that all six of his brothers live with him. When they return after a short honeymoon to a house filled with rough and tumble bachelors, Camille is both overwhelmed and bit angry. How can she and Aiden have time alone together with a houseful of people? However, she soon comes up with a brilliant idea to get all these guys out of the house and quick - She will get them to fall in love with her friends and be eager to have their own space. Her plan gets a rocky start but everything begins to smooth out as the guys and girls spend more time together. What follows in a hilarious journey to love for not only the brothers but also for Camille and Aiden. Can they all figure out this love thing or will it fall apart before they can? What will they all be willing to give up in order to find the love they all desire?
I had such a fun time reading this delightful story. I loved the original musical and the time period in which it was set worked with what happened then. But given this more modern time, I was really interested to see how Anneka would pull it off. It really worked well and I loved how she kept all the fun elements of the story that made it unique but gave them a new spin. All my favorite parts of the story were included and the characters were written just right. I loved the love story of Camille and Aiden and how she made the brothers her project to ward off her loneliness. And her friends and sister brought in such great conversations and hilarious situations that kept me turning pages way past my bed time. I cannot recommend this book enough for its beautiful story and the wonderful characters. If you have any love for the musical, you will be intrigued and entertained with this new version of that classic. Add this one to your TBR now and get ready to laugh your way through a sweet story. I hope this is not Anneka's only foray into rewriting musicals because I would totally be in for any future ones.
I received a complimentary ARC of this story from Covenant Communications via NetGalley. My review for this book was not required but I am pleased to offer it fairly and honestly. I will receive no fiscal compensation for my review and the opinions expressed herein are entirely my own.

This is a fun retelling and modernization of Seven Brides for Seven Brothers. I wondered how the author would include some elements of the old movie but she managed to do them well so they were mostly believable in our time. For example, how would one get away with kidnapping a bunch of women? But the author managed it. There were lots of nods to the original movie/play that didn't follow exactly but were obviously there if you are familiar with the story.

This is very obviously Christian lit.

3.5*
When this book was announced I was so so excited to see how she would do a retelling of Seven Brides for Seven Brothers. From the movie standpoint I think she did a pretty good job. I could follow along and enjoyed how she modernized some of the story. I've also never cared for Adam in the movie and wasn't a big fan of Aiden in the book either.

From a romance standpoint, I wanted so much more. All the relationships felt kind of flat and I wish they'd been explored more. There was a lot going on and because of that sometimes I felt I was being jerked from one thing to the next. I could see she was trying to stay true to the movie, which doesn't go into depth with any of the relationships either, but I feel by doing so we missed out on something. I enjoyed the book and the craziness of it and appreciated the nice HEA, but wish there had been more of Aiden and Camille's relationship.

I received a complimentary copy from the publisher through Netgalley, and this is my honest review.

This is a fun modern day retelling of 7 Brides for 7 Brothers. It is Christian fiction. I loved the Christian aspect of it. It was done just right and didn't come across as preachy. Camille and Aiden's story was cute and a great example of the growth and learning that occurs within a marriage. I loved all the characters. I think Benson is probably my favorite. It was fun to cheer on the brothers and the girls of apartment 206. Overall a delightful read!

Let me start off by saying that I LOVED watching Seven Brides for Seven Brothers when I was younger. So to have the opportunity to read a book based on that musical? Yes, please! And it did not disappoint. It's a modern-day retelling, so if you had never seen the musical before, you wouldn't catch all of the little shout-outs to it, but I thought it was really fun to pick all of those parts out.

Awesome musical influence aside, I enjoyed this story. I can't even imagine getting married to someone after only knowing them for a few weeks. And then finding out that they live in a huge house with ALL of their brothers? Yeah, Camille's reaction was pretty similar to what mine might be. It was fun sitting on the sidelines and watching all 8 of them learn how to navigate this new normal. I can't tell you how many times I wanted to smack Aiden upside the head though. He thought he was doing the best he could, but boy was he dense at times!

If you're in the mood for a quick, fun read, I highly recommend this one.

This was not for me.
It was a quick read with some cute moments. But overall it read like fanfiction... and I really wish the blurb held some hint that it was going to be overtly Christian.
I unfortunately couldn't connect to any of the characters.... it did make me want to check out the movie this was based off of though

Brides & Brothers was such a fun and sweet read! I’ve always loved the musical ‘Seven Brides for Seven Brothers’ and I was excited to see a modern day retelling.

Aiden and Camille meet and fall for each other quickly. They get married right away and Camille moves in to Aiden’s home. She’s nervous and excited, but what she doesn’t expect is that Aiden’s six younger brothers also live with him. Ever since his parents died, Aiden has taken care of them, and even though they’re all in their twenties now, they are all single and all live at home.

Camille comes up with a great plan… she’ll set up all the brothers with some of her friends and maybe then they’ll fly the coop. This goes really bad, but also really well. It depends on what part of the book you’re on.

The only thing that really bugged me about this one is that Aiden was around the first 30% and the last 20% but he was pretty much gone half the book. It’s hard to focus on the romance when he was on a work trip for weeks and not in the book at all. Aside from that, I really enjoyed this one and will definitely check out more from this author!

When I saw the synopsis for this book, I thought it sounded great. There were parts that were endearing like how sweet Aiden and his brothers are and the Camille’s relationships with her sister and friends.

While the overall story was sweet, I felt the men were a bit immature and I didn’t like how much religion played such a prominent role. The religion part just wasn’t my thing. I also didn’t like how the women were spoken to or treated at times.

It was a quick read with redeeming moments just not my thing.

Seven Brides for Seven Brothers has always been one of my favorite "guilty pleasure" musicals. It has its problems, but it's still a fun story with catchy music and some of the best dance sequences ever put to film. So when I heard that there was a modern retelling releasing this year, I knew I HAD to read it. And I'm so glad I did!

What a lovely, heartwarming, laugh-out-loud story. If you're in the market for a romantic comedy that's going to give you all the feels, look no further. Sure, parts of it will give you second-hand embarrassment (I actually slapped my hand to my forehead with a quiet "noooo" a couple of times, lol!), but would it be a proper rom-com if it didn't?

Camille and Aiden were just... so cute. As the story went on, each of the brothers developed their own personalities, and I love that we got to know them as Camille did. There were so many perfect little references to the movie that made me smile. It was a great time.

Overall, perhaps not the best book I've ever read, but one that I'm glad I read, and I can totally see myself returning to if I need a smile on a bad day. Four stars from me!

Brides & Brothers follows a group of 7 brothers who live on a farm (horse related enough right?) with emphasis on the eldest brother, Aiden. Having raised his younger brothers after his parents passed away, Aiden has always prioritized his career and being able to financially support his family above his own personal needs. But with his business finally doing well, he decides he now needs to find himself a wife.

When Camille needs help fixing her computer, she meets Aiden. Things move fast between them but Camille is unaware that along with Aiden, comes a whole lot of baggage - 6 brothers!

This book had quite an unrealistic plot line however if you are aware of this before going into it, it's quite a fun read. This was a Christian, very clean, easy to read romance. It would be a great book to ease your mind after a long day.

An awful lot of courtin' goin' on!🙄

A love of the nostalgic past and the great era of movie musicals made me select this book. I thought it started off well when it focused on Aiden and Camille but, as Aiden's younger brothers got more involved they and their romantic issues started to monopolize the plot. Then there were too many couples to follow. And, at least for me, Camille just did not have the plucky appeal of Millie in the Seven Brides for Seven Brothers (though Aiden did pull as many jerk moves as Adam in the movie!).

I felt the story flagged as it went on and the plot points modernized from the original pioneer setting just did not work all that well in a modern setting (especially the idea Aiden concocts to get his brothers together with the women over Thanksgiving).

The added storyline involving Camille and Annie's mother was a nice touch.

Thanks to Covenant Communications and NetGalley for sharing a complimentary advance copy of the book; this is my voluntary and honest opinion.
