An exceedingly cute retelling of Much Ado About Nothing, modernized in Britain. There were several direct links to the original text and story that were fun to Easter Egg hunt for!
From the first paragraph, I knew this book would be a good one. I immersed myself into the book from the first chapter and I cannot say enough good things about this book! Honestly amazing! The writing is incredible and the plot is just one to die for. I am absolutely obsessed with this book. My favorite part would have to be the character development throughout the book. Character development is something I look forward to and this book did not disappoint.
This was really cute and I really loved the banter. It was honestly a little awkward to read at times because the characters are very extra but I enjoyed it overall. I did find myself rolling my eyes at some points, the plot was not surprising and everything was quite stereotypical. I’d probably recommend it to people to read from the library because I don’t think it’s rereadable.
I'd hate to give it a low rating because it didn't work, but...it just didn't work. It's riddled with cliches and not enjoyable ones! Trust me, give me some good cliches anytime and I'll eat that up. Not with this book. the premise is interesting enough, even if not original. the MC was grating and i never connected with them.
I got to 11% and really couldn’t be bothered to continue. I’ve tried to make myself get to 25% but that was ages ago. It’s time to call it.
I’m out.
Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for allowing me an eArc to read.
This wasn’t what I was expecting and it went in so many ways I wasn’t sure of at first, but I’m pleasantly surprised with how much I enjoyed it and these characters. Very sweet and utterly charming! There were some iffy moments/dialogue in there that threw me off but I don’t have much to say that was necessarily wrong with the book - it was fun.
This book was not a good fit for me. I did not like the main characters. I found them to be annoying and irritating. Not an enjoyable read for me. The writing is fine, the storyline is not.
This was a fun book! I enjoyed the bantering between Bridie and Ben. This book really tugged at my heartstrings, yet left me smiling anyway. I would definitely recommend this!
This book is a pretty classic enemies to lovers.
The plot was okay but the characters were downright annoying, if they just talked to each other it would have been way less frustrating.
I enjoyed that the supporting characters were padded out and that we got chapters from their point of view.
Such a fun, romantic and funny read! I really loved this one. Bridie Morgan is a great main character. I love her personality and the way she evolved in the story. Also, Hattie, the BFF is the sweetest girl on earth.
What I loved the most about this book was that it was just about the main couple. You really get to know the other characters, a little about the past, the families and the friendships.
I really really recommend this book if you are into romance and fast-paced books. There is a lot of dialogue, lots of funny and lovey-dovey scenes that will make you go awwwww. #teamCupid
I tried to like this book; however, I couldn't get past the cliché. Usually that's not a problem for me, I love a good cliché, but this time I just wasn't surprised at all, in any way. I didn't find anything in these characters that was new or special to me. I won't say it's a bad book, because I think new readers will definitely enjoy it. It's fun and sweet. I just think that more experienced readers won't have the same experience. The target must indeed be a new audience.
Love at First Fight is a cute romance book that follows our main character, Bridie Morgan. Bridie has decided that it is impossible for her to find a man that will suit her well, but to make really sure that this is correct, she decided to go on 20 dates in 20 days. When her old boyfriend, that is now her enemy, comes back, she is adamant on staying away from him ever since he broke her heart in high school when he stood her up at their school's leavers' party. Although she begins to find this a bit more difficult than expected and as tension rises between them, they have to figure out their feelings for one another again.
Overall, I enjoyed this book, but there were some factors to why it didn't get a super high rating. I found that in some points of the book, there were some sexist comments made from men about the women in the book, which just made the characters that said these comments a little less loveable. I find when characters aren't loveable, it can bring down my review of the book. Furthermore, I also found that some problems were a bit repetitive. It seemed to always be the same problems between the characters, even though they claimed to have resolved them. It just felt like the book was on a loop, repeating the same conflicts over and over with multiple characters.
I did, however, find this book to be a super easy and lighthearted read. It's not a heavy book, and enjoyable enough while reading. Something I really enjoyed was that the author also added in storylines for the other characters. As interesting as Ben and Bridie's story is, it kept things new and exciting hearing about other characters in the book. I also found this book pretty easy to get into, I found it to be fast-paced and since most of the characters were introduced early on in the book, it kept things moving. This book had a lot of my favourite tropes as well, lovers to enemies to lovers, the one bed trope, and the found family trope.
I did enjoy this book, and it was a fun enough read. It's not one of my favourites, but I didn't hate
it. I'd like to say a huge thank you to NetGalley, Mary Jayne Baker, and Aria & Aries for providing me with this E-Arc.

I hate to give negative reviews, but here it comes… I stopped reading the 40% mark and to be honest I don't know how I managed to read so much. Love at First Fight had so many things that bothered me... to begin with, the main character is the classic unbearable "not like other girls" (I'm so over it), BUT what pissed me off more was that Bridie is that sort of person that drag other woman down to make her feel better about herself. I HATED HER!!! And don't even get me started with Ben. Somehow every time he opens his mouth I feel like punching him in the face… I don’t know, it might even be some kind of record.
The dialogues are bad and the couple's dynamic is non-existent, the banter is kinda there but it doesn't work at all. Every interaction between the characters had a forced humour that made me cringe sooo hard.
This book was not for me.
Thank you so much to Aria & Aries for kindly sending me an ARC via NetGalley in exchange for my honest review.
CW: implied infidelity, vindictive lying
Thank you to NetGalley and Aria & Aries for an advanced electronic copy of this book in exchange for an honest review!
Bridie Morgan is giving love one more chance, with 20 dates in 20 days before she gives up on the whole thing. But her best friend Hattie sees that there's something - maybe someone - getting under Bridie's skin... maybe a love lost but never forgotten? Enter Ben Kemp: devilishly handsome with one hell of a reputation, and Bridie couldn't hate him more for the errors of their shared past. That is, until their friends play Team Cupid, because they've got a plan...
I liked this story because even though it was a bit predictable, there were other storylines that added to it and made it more surprising. The characters were great, and the various perspectives added to the story as well. You could see how it would end, but it was still an enjoyable journey to get there.
This was a cute story that had so many moments where I was literally laughing out loud! I was actually a little disappointed because I thought I was going to get to experience more of the 20 dates part of the story, but it ended up being really good the way it was done! I loved the enemies to lovers story line.
Love at First Fight is a fun, laugh out loud enemies-ish to lovers rom com. So basically my bread and butter. Great banter and chemistry between the characters. Only real negative I have is the focus on secondary characters was too heavy for my liking. But other than that, it's a fun light hearted read.
So, here we are. I just moved to a new country, about to start a new degree (yaaay!!) And exciting as that may be, it is also a bit more stressful. Often, more than a bit. So romance was just what I needed.
I realized that whenever there is a big turning point in my life, whether that's a new house, or a global pandemic, I always end up reaching either for a good ol' YA fantasy book that I've read a million times before, or a new romance release. Why? Because, ultimately, they are familiar. With romance, at least most of the time, I know exactly what to expect, how the tropes will play out, and where my characters will end up. And I love that. I love being able to dive into a story with minimal worries and just enjoy the journey.
And this is what happened with Love at First Fight as well. I had a few pleasant surprises (more on that in a bit), but ultimately it was exactly what it promised it would be. Love that for me.
So, first happy surprise was the English setting. There's just something about British slang that I fully adore, so any joke, "fight" or instance of sarcasm between Bridie and Ben was instantly made 10 times better. I also really enjoyed the two of them as characters (and especially their bickering), even if they were incredibly emotionally immature.
What I didn't love was the Cal/Hattie/Joanna subplot. Don't get me wrong, I loved everything to do with Cal and Hattie and was just as invested in their romance as I was in Bridie and Ben's. But the subplot with Joanna was just not my cup of tea, and I think I would have enjoyed the book a bit more, had it not been there. Nevertheless, an enjoyable and light-hearted read.
This book started of really promising. I really liked the set up for this book and Bridie and Ben very quickly grew on me. I really liked their interactions and seeing their relationship develop was great. I also liked the storyline of their friends setting them up. My only complaint for a while was that we got the friends' plans in so much detail. So when their plans actually got realised it just felt really repetitve because we already got their plans explained in so much depth. But that was a minor complaint compared to how much I was enjoying this book. However, then Ben and Bridie actually got together and this book went downhill quickly for me. First up we had a conflict between Ben and Bridie and I thought they overreacted A LOT to that conflict and it was resolved SUPER quickly, which made me question why the conflict was even needed in this book at all. After that this book completely shifts focus to the drama between Bridie's best friend and Ben's brother (those two got engaged at the beginning of the book and the entire book just counts down to their wedding). I thought the drama between the two of them wasn't good. I didn't like how it was done. I also just didn't really care that much for those two characters before the drama happened so that made me care even less for that drama. In the end it just started feeling like Bridie and Ben were secondary characters in their own series. So yeah, the last like 40% or so was so boring for me and therefore it dragged down my rating quite a bit.
A light=hearted summer, easy read! Easy to pick up and enjoy the character development!! You're going to like it too!
Thank you NetGalley for sending this arc for an honest review.
I honestly don’t know where to begin. OH WIAT MAYBE THE PART WHERE IM WAITING FOR MY ENMEY TO JUST PUSH ME AGAINST A WALL AND MAKE-OUT WITU ME. I was hooked the moment synopsis said “reunited with an old enemy” cuz like we all know that’s secyyyyy. The romance, the hate the love, all emotions of what the charcaters were feeling was just so captivating that my love for contemporary just keeps increasing and increasing
Overall I highly recommend this book for anyone looking for a heartwarming laugh
