Thanks to BooksGoSocial and NetGalley, I received an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.
This one left me smiling! This was a fun read with an adorable romance that just sucked me in. I'm a sucker for a fake relationship/fiancé and this book served so well with that trope. Though we started with an almost insta-lust sort of attraction, the actual 'romance' was moreso slowburn-ish in an awkward manner because that led to a rushed ending. I would have enjoyed this book more if the ending was a little bit more fleshed out.
However, Summer and Cullen fit so well together, and I loved the way they worked through their relationship. Both of them have stuff they need to deal with, which the book goes through; Cullen, being a Marine, has a lot of PTSD and trauma he'd figuring out and Summer has past relationship issues she works through. I was rooting for them all throughout the book. Definitely recommend this one as a light romantic read!
Oh what a heart tugger this one is. The fake fiance plot isn't new but this is a fresh take on it. You won't be able to help but love Cullen. Extremely alpha and a bit battered he's gonna gran your heart. Summer is quirky and just so much fun to read. Their chemistry is off the charts and oh so steamy. And you're going to love to hate the exes! The ending was good. I definitely want Autumn's story and am headed off to read it.
I received an advance reader copy of this book to leave an honest review. This is the second book in the series but can be read as a standalone. Both books are fun, fast reads with heavy drama and romance. Price has an excellent writing style with easy to follow synopsis and timelines.
This book follows Summer and Cullen. Their initial meeting is maybe one of the best parts of the book. Summer breaks into Cullen's apartment thinking it is her friends and Cullen, a former special ops soldier, pulls a gun on her. From there on out it is all witty barbs, antagonistic attitudes and overall heat between the two. When Summer finally realizes she has to figure out seeing her ex (who cheated on her and wants to get back together) at her brother's wedding in Hawaii, she decides (after some alcohol of course) that Cullen would be the perfect date. No chance of anything happening between them. Needless to say, shenanigans ensue between the two from the get go that are hilarious and also heartwarming. One of the biggest hurdles is this burning need for Cullen to get better after his injury overseas to get back to the "sandbox" and find the man who took out his team. Once the point comes where he has to make a decision, things start to fall apart.
I won't spoil much more but this was a very fun book to read. The chemistry between the two is amazing and the humor in the book keeps you hooked. Overall I would recommend. Good romance read.
Ohhhhhh- I loved Hit It and Quit It!
This book had it all- sexy military man, sassy main character, country, city, beach, family drama- and it was SO GOOD
I look forward to reading more by Melynda Price
5 Stars for this amazingly romance!
Ms Price hit it out of the ball park with this book. It has it all ... I laughed (a lot), I cried (a little) and I swooned (a lot)! Summer just cracked me up ... even though her life was crumbling, she just picked herself up and went on. Cullen was so broken, I just wanted to hug him ... among other things lol! The banter between Summer and Cullen was so snarky ... I loved it! I laughed so hard I was crying when Summer was breaking into Autumn's apartment ... you'll see what I mean when you read it. And the chemistry between Summer and Cullen ... OFF THE CHARTS! I absolutely adored this book and I sure hope there is another one in the series.
Summer needs a fake fiancé for her brother's wedding so her mother will stop badgering her and to show her cheating ex that she's over him. Cullen needs a significant other to get his ex-wife off his back ... so they decide to help each other out. But while they are in Maui at the wedding ... Cullen and Summer form a bond that will be hard to let go when their arrangement is over.

Although a typical story, Summer has fled a dominating mother and her cheating ex, and meets up with Cullen, a marine suffering from PTSD. While typical of the genre, the funny banter and likeable characters made this a hit for me. A good summer read, and one that is hard to put down. Highly recommend.
Summer is having a bad time. A horrible date is interrupted with a phone call that her apartment, and everything she owns, is burning. Her best friend is out of town and not answering her phone. When she goes to let herself into her friend’s apartment, she stands in the pouring rain while the code won’t work. Buzzing the other apartments in the building, she finally get someone to answer, only to have that person tell her to, “F*ck off.” Seeing what she thinks is her bff’s bedroom window ajar, she goes to let herself into the apartment through a little window climbing, only to find herself sprawled on the floor with a marine sitting on her and a gun cocked at her head. Oh, and then there is the fact that she has to soon be in her brother’s wedding, opposite of her ex-fiance who cheated on her. Life is not looking up.
Sometimes people show a different persona, though, and Summer soon finds herself at ease with Cullen, the guy who could have killed her. They come up with a plot to take care of both of their problems.
The book cover, as well as the title, do not do justice to Melynda Price’s Hit It and Quit It. The book has whit and charm and will leave readers smiling.
I was given this book to review for free. This book is very funny and I did enjoy it. It had a bit of everything. It has cheating and interfering with family and friends. It was a good read of a contemporary rom-com. It has provided lots of laughter. I like the interaction between Summer and Cullen. Both have past and relationship issues. I read it in one sitting and easy flowing. I did felt the heroine needed to stand up for herself more instead of putting off things. I will leave it like that since I do not want to spoilers. I gave it 4 stars because I felt that the ending was quick. This is a new author for me but will look into her other books.
With such a serious-looking cover and hero PTSD, I thought this was a pretty adorable romance. In general, I love a good alpha hero and I usually enjoy the fake fiance/boyfriend trope. Combine 'em and I'm hoping for a good time, and this was a fun read.
My main nit is the time it took us to get to HEA. Author started with almost insta-lust before accelerating to fake fiance time. So the time lapse to author wrapping it up in a bow, just seemed like a different tone from where we were for most of the story.
I loved these characters so much. The entire plot was just amazing. Summer and Cullen have amazing chemistry. Throughout the book their entire vibe was 'will they? won't they?' and I was in love. I hated Summer's ex and how she hid his actions from her family. Honestly the only thing that let it down was that there were 2 main characters and multiple 1 dimensional side characters and I just wanted more. This isn't a bad thing because the book worked well with them just fine, it was just a personal want
What happens when you mix a quirky woman, an alpha Marine, and a fake engagement? Lots of laughter, heat, and a bit of heartbreak,
While the fake fiancé trope always offers the same ingredients, I really loved that Cullen was not only active military, but Summer accepted him scars and all. His PTSD and flashbacks made his character more realistic. Watching him reluctantly fall for his “Smalls” made for a delightful read.
Summer is sassy and so much fun. I loved her character. The way she handled her ex made me want to cheer her on, especially during their last scene together.
Hit It and Quit It is a beautifully written romance full of heat, heart, and two broken souls who can only be whole if they’re together. The ending seemed rushed compared to the pacing of the rest of the book, but overall, it was a very enjoyable read.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the chance to review Hit It and Quit It.
I usually read historicals, but decided to try this contemporary romance. I mean... fake fiancé times 2? What could possible go wrong? We know... it will go very wrong and then oh so right. The story of Summer and Cullen begins..... with her breaking into his bedroom. He responds by tackling her and pretty much cuffing her. We just know right then and there, it only forward to true love from here. They both have some dark shadows in their past that they are dealing with, but how refreshing to see how they work through them. Love this story and am ready to check out the rest of the series!
I am a fan of this author and read anything she writes. This was a good story with some comedy mixed in. The characters were relatable. My only complaint is that the ending felt rushed and there was not enough explanation to fill in the gap between when the characters parted and then reunited.
Usually before I request an arc, I also take a little peek at the ratings at Goodreads. But I couldn't find Hit It and Quit it there. Only the prequel One and Done.
But since the blurb got me curious, I requested the arc and it was fun. We meet Summer, who is having a really, really bad day. And when she wants to crash at her best friends house, the security code to the front of the apartment complex isn't working. When she buzzes Autumn's neighbor to ask to let her in, she is rudely dismissed. with no other options for the night, she decides to break into Autumn's apartment via her open window.
Only to end up with a gun to her head (because apparently it wasn't Autumn's open window, but her surly neighbor's). Cullen has just returned from Afghanistan and has trouble adjusting to the normal life. But he certainly didn't expect some fiery woman breaking into his apartment and blaming him for her breaking in. Normally, people tend to cower from his rough appearance, but this woman just scowls at him and it is intriguing him. When she shows up a few days later and asks him to be her pretend fiance for her brother's wedding, Cullen surprises himself by agreeing to go.
But the more time Cullen and Summer are spending together, the more sparks are flying. Throw in a meddling mother-in-law, an ex-lover and some fun in the sun and you have a very interesting story.
Four out of five stars from me and a special thank you to Netgalley for providing the arc.
Summer has turned her back on her wealthy family in New York and chosen to live in Montana, close to her beloved grandmother until her recent death. No-one in New York knows that she broke off her engagement to her brother's business partner Wyatt when she found him cheating on her in their apartment. Drowning in grief she thinks things can't get any worse, then her house burns down and she forgot to renew the insurance. Effectively homeless she tries to crash at her BFF Autumn's flat but accidentally breaks into the apartment next-door, owned by grumpy marine Calum Moriarty.
Summer's younger brother is having a destination wedding in Maui, and of course Wyatt is his best man and Summer is one of the bridesmaids. It's going to be excruciating and that's before you add in Summer's pushy mother who is desperate for her to get back together with Wyatt and return to New York.
As with all madcap heroines, Summer accidentally lies to her mother, telling her she is engaged and bringing her fiancé to the wedding. Now she just has to find someone!
This was sweet enough, but yawn I've read it all before soooooo many times. Fake fiancé, slimy ex wants her back, pushy mom, keeping the reason for the break-up secret to protect her brother's business partnership, what goes on tour stays on tour romance. This just didn't bring anything new to the table, no side plots, no realistic side characters.
Recommended for an undemanding beach read.
I received a free copy of this book from the publisher via NetGalley in return for an honest review.
This book really captured me. I binged it rather quickly and was not left disappointed with the ending. The romance and relationship between Summer and Cullen was absolutely adorable. I loved their snarky personalities and how two damaged souls could find themselves when they discover their person. With Summer and Cullen playing fake fiancé’s, both know that it has an expiration date that looms over their heads wether they have feelings for each other or not. We see both of their inner turmoils.
Summer is our heroine who is recently down on her luck in more ways than one. And Cullen, the damaged hero, who suffers from past trauma in the military. From the funny circumstance of how they met to the forced proximity, I enjoyed their emotional journeys and blossoming romance. It was cute to see Cullen become an alpha male type character when it comes to the heroine and other guys.
Hit It and Quit It on the surface is exactly what I needed for a rainy weekend read. A fake fiancé , a wedding, some drama! I did enjoy the characters relationship development, but I also thought the ending was rushed which let the book down a little.
OMG this book!
Amazing read. Literally could not put it down, it was that good.
I downloaded it at 2:30pm and had finished by 5pm.
I totally neglected my other half whilst reading it.
Had me hooked from page 1!
I’m Not usually into fake boyfriend, fake dating, fake fiancé’s ... really because they’re well... fake! But this one was a tad different and it suckered me in.
The first couple of pages are about road-kill and after my initial WTF moment, I got on and read about the disastrous experiences of the main character Summer, and how she managed to nearly get shot by her future love interest Cullen.
These characters couldn’t have been more different, and neither were in the market for a partner. She’s been cheated on and swears off men. He’s on leave from Afghanistan, in the midst of a divorce and recovering/preparing to go on another tour.
I find books like these to be difficult to review. The intention is romance ... and yes there’s some steam. Summer convinces Cullen to pretend to be her fake fiancé at a family wedding on Maui. Neither have expectations and then things just happen. The characters to me had chemistry and an easy banter. And I loved their protectiveness of one another. So that’s the story in it’s simplest form.
Yes I found this a great story but struggled with Summer having no house, no car, seemingly no job and she was cruisy AF, no tears when her house burned down and all her stuff. Girl .... what’s up with that, and no-one other than one friend reached out.
Then Cullen who’s mid-divorce - I just didn’t know if that detail was even necessary in the story. And I’m never sure how to feel about injured servicemen as a story line. I don’t know what can do them justice.
I also wasn’t to keen on the - relax I’m on the pill so that should fix your sexual problems if we do it without a condom ...
Do I get too caught up in these fake that turn real romances, I guess so! Some stars from me for this one, and maybe don’t get caught in the details like I do!
In the past I've enjoyed Melynda Price's books; however, this one was a miss. The hero and heroine were not my cup of tea. Cullen's inner monologue threw me out of the story and Summer was just kinda meh.
