Echo of Roses by Paula Quinn is a sexy and adventurous romance that makes you long for a perfect knight to come sweep you off your feet! The War of the Roses is at its climax when a Lancaster finds herself in another time and in the safe keeping of the enemy side. Even though she is not from this era Kestrel Lancaster knows if the knight who saved her ever learns her true last name he will be honor bound to hate her. Nicholas de Marre, Earl of Scarborough, has supported the House of York, the white roses, his entire life — ever since the Lancaster’s ruined his life by killing his entire family. What will he do when he finds himself under the spell of and falling in love with a woman who stands for everything he hates?
This story is a fun read that keeps you intrigued from cover to cover and I recommend it to all who enjoy a medieval romance with a little paranormal twist.

Trope: secound chance at love/enemies to lovers/time travel
Devoured it in a day! Amazing writing, and great characters. The Characters were very likable and I loved Kes and Nicky's story.
This was such a sweet book. It was like a fairy tale. Kes is from 2019 and travels to 1485. She landed right in a middle of battle, and falls in love with her knight a knight in Shining armor.
Having to adjust to a different time was hard yet easy because she had the support of Nick, and Elia. He also had to overcome hatred, hurt, and things that seemed impossible. Together they made it work.
Their love was hard won with everything they had to go through. The story was focused, and enchanting with all the bits of miagic involving time traveling. I highly recommend this book and look forward to reading the next book.
Historian, Kestrel, time-travels from the 21st century to 15th Century England after receiving a dragon brooch from an aunt. Sir Nicholas is amazed when a woman appears in front of him on the battlefield. He saves her, but comes to realize that she is a Lancaster, his mortal enemies. She confuses him with her input regarding the future, but they begin to fall for each other regardless of their extraordinary situation.
Wonderful time-travel romance.
Thank you Paula Quinn, Dragonblade Publishing and NetGalley for allowing me an advance copy for my honest feedback.
Paula drew me in from the first page and had me wanting to know more. I love the twists and turns especially being a time travel story but how this series will work or connect. The adventure is just beginning but the female character I grew to love as she grew to love the hero. Through their connections and growth towards each other we were able to feel the rough gruff hero release the chains and armor around his heart and mind. The story kept me engaged with the sweeping of could they really ever have a HEA. I love the secondary characters and how they help the two main characters grow as individuals and as a couple. I highly recommend this book and that you read it in order. I can’t wait to read the next book in the series and see what happens next.
Echo of Roses was an enjoyable fantasy romance. We have Kestrel who is from modern-day NYC who is brought back in time to meet Nicholas in 1485 England. I tend to enjoy the staid proper lord from patriarchal such-and-such who has his gruff barriers broken down by a speaks-her-mind modern woman trope, so I did enjoy this book. The romance was believable. There was no instalove. It actually had an engaging plot. I liked the twist with Arthur. It was a good fast read, and I would recommend it for people who enjoy this genre.
Time Travel Romance and Adventure
Kestrel is a historian, but she never imagined she would live the history she studies. Thanks to a mysterious call and an antique brooch, she is hurled 500 years in the past, in the middle of a bloody battle. Can Kestrel survive the War of the Roses? What happens when she falls in love with a warrior from the past? It will be a perilous adventure, where loyalties are tested, and battles are won and lost. Does Kestrel stay with Nicholas, or does she return to the future? I enjoyed this story and would recommend it to those who enjoy time travel romance.
Thanks to Netgalley and
Dragonblade Publishing for the digital ARC in exchange for my honest review and opinion.
Rating: 3.5/5 Stars
This was a nice short romance read. I have never read a romance set in medieval times so I enjoyed that setting! As well as the twist of traveling back in time. Overall it was a fun read. I’m giving it 3.5 stars as it was a bit rushed feeling, and felt like some of the plot points were mentioned then skipped over. Romance wise it was decently steamy and kept me enerertaines!
I wanted to love this story, but I couldn't. Too much fluff, plus an arrogant, know it all heroine was more tham I could stomach. That people believed she was a time traveler without any questions was nuts. Sorry, not for me.
This was my first book by this author, but I don't think I will continue the series.. I liked the idea of time travel through an heirloom and the whole idea behind it, but the book itself just didn't work for me. It is more of a fluffy comedy than anything else. Everybody just accepts what happens without any hiccups and difficulty. There was no struggle to adjust to the time travel. I guess I like my time travel books a bit more serious.
Kestrel Lancaster is a modern woman from 2019. She lives in New York and has just sworn off men when her last boyfriend is a jerk and he cheated on her. I was enchanted by the plot of the story, King Arthur and his knights, a brooch, and time travel. Interesting combination I loved it.
Nicholas de Marre was a fierce fighter and a white rose in the Battle of the Roses. The white rose represents the House of York and the red rose the House of Lancaster. During the War of the Roses, this designated the two warring houses for the crown of England. King Richard III had been the king for two years and was being challenged for it. The contender is Henry Tudor. During this time there were a lot of wars, Nicholas was always away from home and fighting somewhere in England. He had little time for family or women.
The historical knowledge the author had made the tale so much more interesting. To see him trying to imagine what it would be like in Kestrel time. It was very hard for him. The characters were exciting and warm-hearted. Elia tried to take care of Nicholas and became fast friends with Kestrel. There were a lot of twists and turns, plenty of battles, and she feared the lack of medical care. The description of their surroundings such as the beautiful waterfall enchanted you. I can't wait to read the next book. It was such a good book.
I received this ARC from Net Galley and voluntarily reviewed this Novel.
I've read books by this author before and this one doesn't disappoint. The twist at the end sets it up for another fun, timey, whimey story.
Sir Nicholas de Marre and his family has always been fighting for the House of York, even though he doesn’t always in King Richard’s decisions. One day in the middle of a battle for his life he unexpectedly finds a young woman who drops from the sky out of nowhere. He rushes to save her life. The last thing historian Kestrel Lancaster remembers is being in New York City 2021 staring an ancestor’s brooch and poof she in the fifteenth century. She know there’s a reason she been transported back in time, she can appreciate the handsome rugged medieval knight who hates the Lancaster family who destroyed his family. A captivating story as Kestrel and Nicholas come to terms with here time travel, his feeling for the York and Lancaster families, finding a way to return her home, but will they be able to fight the fierce attraction starting to grow between them? I love the attraction, history and adventure between them its make an excellent story I’m voluntarily reviewing.
3.7 Stars.
This was a cute and fun fluffy book! I'm a sucker for a good time travel with romance type of book, and this did not disappoint. I really enjoyed the characters and their banter! Kes is funny, witty, and just a fun character. Nicholas is a nice mix of fifteenth century barbarian and romantic soft guy. I also loved how the author set up the ending for more books. The only reason I didn't give this book more stars is because I like my books with more.. umm.. sex. It took too long to get to it and the constant back and forth about it had me skipping some inner dialogue. I understand why it took so long to get to it.. honestly, I do. But I just like these type of books to have more.. and sooner. That's just me. Overall, it was a fun book to read! I will definitely be reading the other books in the series!
I am intrigued by time travel stories and always wonder where I would love to land. Hard choice to make and of course how would it happen?
Our heroine landed in 1485 England when rubbing an ancient cameo she was given. Right in the middle of battle, and she was saved by a knight in full armour battling an enemy! What are the chances?
He of course could not believe a woman just appeared before his eyes in the middle of battle. Seeing she was about to meet her death and then fainted, he grabbed her and threw her over his noble war horse and fled to he fortress.
Sound interesting? Oh yes and as Paula Quinn begins a new series, one can only hope the next will come out soon!
Echo of Roses is superbly written and researched to present as an accurate time travel romance. Nicholas is not quite sure whether or not to trust Kestral when she appears. He seems to admire her outspokenness and forthrightness but resists believing the reality of her ‘appearing.’ Kes struggles to give up her 21 century ways, conversation and independence, and be a female subservient of the day. So, instead Kes initiates improvements for the workers or servants. Along the way, she wins over Nicholas and those living and working in his castle.
The secondary characters are extremely prominent in this romance having a lot to do with Nicholas and Kestral’s daily lives and the story line. Although I thoroughly enjoyed this book and the way Kestral learned to adapt to her ‘new’ life, the selfie thing just did not fit in. A bit of an explanation of ‘items’ or her life style is completely understandable, but the selfie was kind of ‘off.’ The connection of the brooch to King Arthur brought some intriguing ideas and discussion to the book as Kes tries to determine her future.
I am looking forward to reading more about Elia and Kes’s father’s romance – maybe a future book?
I am sure all of us have dreamed of time traveling at some point. Paula Quinn did an amazing job with this story. Didn't expect to have the h drop into the middle of a battle in the fifteenth century. Just one way to highlight the many changes between the 21st century and the 15th.
I loved Nicholas's strength of character that he could work through all of Kestrel's odd and unusual 21st century behaviors and slang. As a historian, Kestrel was definitely in her element.
This time/travel romance will draw you in and keep you reading until the very end. There are some great supporting characters as well. The story has danger, lots of excitement, and an unexpected surprise or two. I highly recommend it for your reading enjoyment. I can't wait for the next book in the series and to find out what happens with the brooch.
Time travel and Historical romance... yes, please.
I was so excited about this book because I love time travel historical romances and I have been a huge fan of Paula Quinn.
I am so happy I read this one and I did love it. Such a great story that got me hooked from the beginning.
Can't wait for the next book.
I do highly recommend it.
Echo of Roses by Paula Quinn is a time travel romance which leaves lots of questions as it ends. Kestral is a historian by trade. She lives a simple life, living in a loft with four friends, two guys, two gals. They and her father make her life complete. Sone day she receives a letter requesting her presence in a lawyer’s office to discuss an inheritance. On a Sunday? She goes and meet with a strange man named Mr. Green who gives her a small box. Upon opening the box Kestral discovers a very old brooch. The minute she touches it, she is transported (after dropping the brooch) and looks up to find herself in the middle of a middle ages battle, about to be killed. A gorgeous knight pulls her up on his horse/ After some discussion, he puts her down where she finds herself surrounded by six knights intent upon rape and death. Thankfully her knight returns and grasps her from their clutches. The she notices the roses. My God, she is in the middle of the Wars of the Roses. She tells him her story, which he hesitates to believe. Ya think?) It is the beginning of a very contentious relationship.
This is as impossible situation. Every day falling more in love, Kestral knows she needs to go home. Nicholas, Earl of Scarborough and King Richard’s commander, feels the same way although he refuses to admit it for a long time, tries to understand and protect Kes in a very dangerous situation. She could be accused of being a witch and punished. He needs to help her adjust, and help her to go home, which is breaking his heart. He is very torn. This is a terrific love story as well as an interesting conundrum. There is a fabulous cliffhanger to finish up the books and prepare the reader for the next. Kestral is an amazing character, adjusting to an unbelievable problem and Nicholas is indeed a protector. I am normally o a huge fan of time travel. It is too tricky to navigate. This one is intriguing and I am curious to see how it plays out. I recommend it.
I was invited to read a free e-ARC of Echo of Roses by Dragonblade, through Netgalley. All thoughts and opinions are my own. #netgalley #echoofroses
Having read a number of this author's books in the past, I was excited to receive a copy of this novel. I loved the concept of a sassy, street-wise New York girl landing in the middle of a battlefield during the War of the Roses, an era that I have always been interested in. I also loved the cover of this book. Whilst time travel is not my favorite trope, I have read a few that have captured my attention and were entirely believable. In this situation, however, I battled to get into the book and had to adjust my thinking around the plot from serious historical to light-hearted comedy. When I eventually hit on comedy, I found it easier to appreciate the book and the characters. Kestrel is a thoroughly modern girl, independent and self-sufficient. Landing as she does in the middle of a battlefield with sword-drawn soldiers bearing down on her, sends her into a panic. Just when she thought she would never see the light of day again, she is rescued by a knight who obliterates her attackers. Sir Nicholas de Marre has seen more than his fair share of war. He has also suffered through the loss of his family and is serving a king for whom he has little respect. The strangely dressed young woman who defies convention intrigues him and despite his skepticism, he tries to help her with her quest. When given the opportunity to return home to her father and those she loves, Kestrel has to make a choice, knowing that ultimately, someone will suffer because of it. I received a copy of this romance through Dragonblade Publishing and NetGalley and this is my honest and voluntary review.
After inheriting a broach, Kestrel Lancaster suddenly finds herself in the middle of a battlefield five hundred years in the past. As a historian she knows a lot about what is about to happen, but she doesn't want to risk being called a witch.
Sir Nicholas de Marre is a military commander for the House of York. The last thing he expects to see is a terrified young woman in the middle of a battle. Our hero is a fearsome warrior who never loses a battle.
This is a fabulous time-travel romance. There is a lot of excitement, danger and light-hearted moments. All the characters are so interesting they will grab your attention from the start. As this is the first book in a series I'm hoping to meet some of them again.
Magical fun.
