Lyrical memoir. The voice and style aptly capture the feelings of displacement and the struggle to know/be known. It is not a typical memoir (nor should it be) in that it takes some work to follow the narrative. That said, the style and thought processes (in my mind) mimic displacement, re-imagining, and regrinding.

A powerful family history that will surprise and move all readers. I loved it deeply and can see myself recommending it to a wide variety of readers.
