I don't normally jump into series in the middle, however I didn't feel lost and enjoyed not only the characters but the fast-paced plot.

This is the 3rd book in the Paige Northwood series and this one seemed too obvious. About halfway through I could guess where things were going. It is still a good read though bc of the characters including Paige’s sister Anna and DC Singh whom Anna has great chemistry with despite having a serious boyfriend. Not my favorite from the series but I am invested in Paige’s life already so I’d definitely read the next in this series!

Serviceable writing, average plot—I guessed the whodunnit but didn’t think it was glaringly obvious.

I mostly enjoyed the main character’s POV, but toward the end she makes decisions that were really frustrating. Paige apologizes for one of those mistakes but in a very “I didn’t mean any harm!” way in which she doesn’t really seem to accept responsibility for a major flub. She seems more concerned about how it’ll affect her than owning up.

I liked the representation of Deaf characters, including Paige’s sister, boyfriend, and boss. Paige is a BSL interpreter and her boss, Sasha, is a social worker. One of Sasha’s clients, Lukas (who is also Deaf) is accused of murdering his wife. Their house was destroyed in a fire. Did Lukas set it or know who did? He tells Paige he knows who’s responsible, but after that he refuses to communicate or defend himself from the accusations.

More mystery than thriller, this isn’t 100% cozy, but it’s in that vein. There is some violence and mortal danger, but nothing that gets very graphic or intense.

This is a third book in a series, however it can be read as a standalone. (I read the first but missed the second.) Paige is a sign language interpreter that has been helping the police in cases that involve people who are deaf. However that changes when Paige becomes a witness to a house fire that results in a death. Paige feels sidelined and wants to get down to the bottom of the truth as her client, who is deaf refuses to tell police what happened that night.

This is the third installment in a series, something I didn’t realize until I was halfway through the book so I read it as a stand-alone. I loved the author’s writing style and flow of the book. I didn’t feel lost at all but enjoyed the book and will be going back to read the first two!

#TheSilentSuspect:

Paige! Missed you girl. This series is one I’ve been deeply invested in and am so happy for the new installment, The Silent Suspect.

I think Nell Pattison’s writing gets stronger with each book for Paige. I knew we’d go on a wild ride and I knew we’d get strong MC Paige that helped with BSL (British Sign Language) interpretation as a Deaf friend, Lukas, is charged for murder of his wife. I knew I’d see ole Singh, which is always my favorite.

I feel like with the third installment, we really got to see Paige in a good place and with major growth. You know when you haven’t seen a friend in a minute and then you run into each other and you just can’t help but be happy because they’re confident and glowing? That’s kind of how it felt. I’ve always adored Paige, but she’s just grown and really knocked it out the park this time. Yes, she still uncertain and waivers a lot in her decisions, but she’s still more confident.

Overall, I just really enjoyed The Silent Suspect. Again, I finished the thriller quickly as I could not stop reading to find out what was going to happen! Thank you so much @harpercollins360 for the gifted copy! The Silent Suspect is out Tuesday, September 7th!

The Silent Suspect is third in the Paige Northwood series, a British crime mystery. I like the title lots. This was a new author for me and I had not read the prior books in this series. There were some references to past events and enough background on characters that I didn't feel lost. It read easily as a standalone. An interesting concept with deaf characters and the need for sign language amidst social service cases.
Paige is a part time interpreter for Sasha, a profoundly deaf social worker. She gets involved in a case of Sasha's client (Liam) being accused of murdering his wife (Nadia) and child by setting fire to their home. Both Liam & Nadia are deaf. The story was written in an alternating timeline before and after the fire.
There's loads of characters and suspects in the mystery, Paige's boyfriend, Lucas's X-wife & son, DS Singh, Paige's friend, maybe wants to be more? Then there are the neighbors/witnesses to fire. I felt they were developed well and enjoyed many of them.
However, Paige's character was annoying at times, she's naive and nosy. The lines of employer/employee were crossed and blurred throughout the case. I know it's fiction but, it was stretched beyond bounds.
I had surmised some of the plot by chapter 5 and knew who, just not why. Regardless, the case resolution had a good twist.
This book reminds me of a good legal series I read (Goodlove & Shek), by another author, who also incorporates some deaf characters & culture. I applaud the author for creating real  characters that aren't "normal" or "perfect", as there's no such thing. I'd never thought about what it would be like to be deaf in many of the situations described in this story. It was very enlightening and thought provoking.
Thanks to Netgalley, Nell Pattison, and Avon/ Harper Collins Publishers for the advance digital copy. These thoughts and opinions are mine alone submitted voluntarily.

I just finished this one and I'm still reeling! There were two pretty major things going on this book and while we get all our questions answered (something I love, because if you missed anything there is a recap towards the end to help clarify) about the crime aspect...our romance is a bit on the back burner. However for good reason! I was chomping at the bit by the ending with excited and anticipation!

With this entire series, I have loved it from start to finish and this book is no different. While it's great read to enjoy the first two. A lot of what is missed is revisited in this book, which is why it is part of a series, but also marketed as a standalone. For anyone who likes a backstory, I strongly suggest reading the other books as well. They're great reads and gives full insight (and love) on why this is such a great series! Paige, while prone to getting into what she shouldn't, has her flaws. It's been wonderful watching her grow in this book. However, we learn that maybe she hasn't changed as much as we thought as the book progresses.

There is a bit of romance happening in this book and true slow build romance that has been in the works since book one. (Now you see why reading the first two is beneficial.) We get a bit more of that in this one, but that's all I'll say about it. Aside from that..I will admit that this ending was not one I was ready for and I was ready to cry with hurt and frustration for the cliff hanger we're left with. Am I ready for the next book? Do you even have to ask? 😂

Thank you #Netgalley, Avon Books UK, and Nell Pattison for allowing me to read an arc of The Silent Suspect. This is another good book in the "Silent" series. I love the characters, but in this one Paige was a little annoying with her romantic woes. It took me some time to get interested in this story-the crime was not as engaging as in the previous two books. However, the book did pick up and the story ended up being great. I recommend reading the books in order, even though they can stand alone. The evolution of the characters and their relationships add a lot.

PS I am not sure why there are two copies of this book - one with a release date that was in April, and this one that is in September. I love this series and was really looking forward to a new book!

This one was fair enough, i connected better with the previous ones but still was something I enjoyed and will definitely continue with this series.

The Silent Suspect is exactly the thriller I needed! I love Nell Pattison's books, and this one definitely lived up to my hopes. As a lifelong disabled person, I am always searching for disability representation in fiction, especially by disabled authors. It is rare to find great disability representation in thrillers; Pattison's work is so important, and so appreciated.

What a different theme for a detective-type story! Most of the main characters in this were deaf, giving a little insight into the world of the non-hearing. I loved seeing how the interpreter worked alongside the social worker. Good story! I look forward to reading more from the author!

Thank you to NetGalley and Nell Pattison for this E-ARC in exchange for my honest feedback and review.

This is the third book in the Paige Northwood series. Paige is a BSL interpreter. Since the second book Paige accepted a part time job with Sasha, a social worker, whom she meet at the deaf school. One of Sasha's clients Lukas is accused of killing his wife Nadia then burning their house to try to cover the murder. Paige and Sasha are both convinced Lukas did not kill his wife. Because Paige is a witness and an employee of Sasha's she can not interpret for the police this time. This does not stop her from trying to find the truth and the real killer. Even if it kills her in the process.

I was so excited to dive into this third installment of Paige Northwood's adventures. It started off interesting and grabbed my attention. In the middle it did move more slowly and I even got very frustrated with Paige. Her decisions made me shake my head and sigh. It did take me a little bit longer to get through the middle but the end really made up for it.! I am now at the edge of my seat ready for the next book. I can't wait to see where Paige goes and what she does.

Thank you Netgalley for this ARC.

So, as I'm writing this review, I realized this was book three in a series--I hope the first two books were significantly better than this one. The characters were horrible, totally unlikeable and totally unbelievable. The story was flat and boring. I hated the style of the writing. It's confusing and there's one info dump after another.

This one was a little different from the first two books because this time it is the suspect who is deaf. This is a dark story that deals with flawed characters. You never know what secrets people are hiding, even those closest to you. This book will keep you guessing...Just when you think you understand what’s happening and settle down for a quick few pages, there’s another surprise, I liked that the most.

Overall, I enjoyed the book and thought it was a well-thought out story that mixed mystery and emotion. I have read all of Nell Pattison's books and think this one was pretty good, but not her best. It is a sad book, but I enjoyed it.

Rating: 4 🍷 🍷 🍷 🍷
Book 🎧: The Silent Suspect
Author: Nell Pattison
Genre: Mystery & Thrillers
RELEASES on September 7, 2021!!! GET YOUR COPY!!
Recommended to readers who like a good mystery with a strong female protagonist and love to read books in a series-BONUS: includes the deaf community.

Sipping thoughts: YOU IN DANGER GIRL-in my Whoopi Goldberg’s voice -is all I kept thinking literally EVERY time Paige Northwood ventured out. No matter how many times she was told to stay out of police business and no matter how many times she told herself to mind her own business she was always meddling and trying not to get killed. I really love this series and Paige and all her shenanigans. I absolutely love Singh and their relationship. Pattison left me hanging on something that I need resolved. I won’t ruin it for you, but I need a book 4 soon for some resolution and closure. You can read this as a standalone if you want but why would you? I suggest starting at book 1 to understand all the references but if you don’t have a choice, you most definitely can read book 3 and not feel lost.

Nadia and Lucas are both deaf. By the time Sign Language Interpreter Paige Northwood is contacted and arrives at a burning house, Lucas comes running out. His wife is still inside. It is later determined that Nadia was dead before the fire started.

Lukas signs to Paige that he knows who killed his wife. But then he goes silent – even when the police charge him with murder.

This is suspenseful from the very first page and maintains a high level until the unexpected ending. What comes in between is a bit of choppy writing .. the plot does not move smoothly .. and contains repetitiveness in the telling. Otherwise, this is a interesting insight into the world of deafness. As the author has been teaching in the Deaf community for many years, I expected a certain amount of credibility .... I was not disappointed. Paige is a unique character, solidly drawn.

Many thanks to the author / Avon Books UK - Harper 360 / Netgalley for the digital copy of this crime fiction. Read and reviewed voluntarily, opinions expressed here are unbiased and entirely my own.

I love Nell Pattison’s books so I was thrilled to have received an advanced copy of The Silent Suspect. Pattison creates such realistic characters. Paige Northwood is a sign language interpreter that has been helping the police solve crime cases. This time, she is helping her client Lukas, after his house fire. The house burned while his wife was inside and Paige has to figure out who the suspect is

Ehh, liked the premise, didn't like the execution. I DNF'd it 55% into the book. I just couldn't. It was long and drawn out and low key boring (which have you read the plot? It should not have been boring...)
