What a lovely novel! This is the second book I’ve read by this author, and. I’ve enjoyed both. Noelle was such a likable main character. And Sam. Sam was just a perfect man for her to lust after. I really felt like I knew them towards the end of the novel, and I was routing the whole time for my friends to get together. This story is 100% fate/ stars aligning/ kismet driven. If you don’t like every possible coincidence driving the two main characters together, then this one may not be for you. But if you want a fun beach read, a cute romance, something cute to sink your teeth, pick this one up. Very tame romance.
Gosh, what a beautiful story of fate and following your dreams. Noelle and Sam find themselves stranded when a blizzard completely shuts down the highway that they are each traveling. Each are trapped in their cars and Noelle is in desperate need of a phone charger. Sam offers assistance, the two spend eight perfect hours together, and then part ways.
ᴇɪɢʜᴛ ᴘᴇʀꜰᴇᴄᴛ ʜᴏᴜʀꜱ takes the reader through Noelle’s life following the blizzard and the funny ways in which life continues to have her cross paths with Sam.
Noelle is such a beautiful person! She is so kind and caring. She puts everyone’s needs before her own, which contributes to the amazing relationships she has with her friends and family, as they all want the best for her. Noelle’s flower shop was perfection!
I absolutely adored Louis’s Dear Emmie Blue, which published last year. I was SO excited for ᴇɪɢʜᴛ ᴘᴇʀꜰᴇᴄᴛ ʜᴏᴜʀꜱ and it was totally worth the wait.
Synopsis: With a mother who has increasing health issues, an absent wannabe rockstar brother, a job she couldn’t care less about and an ex-boyfriend who has suddenly moved back into town, Noelle Butterby is at the end of her rope. But when an impromptu snow storm allows her the opportunity to get to know Sam Attwood, an American man trying to catch a flight home, she feels hope for the first time in a while. And when she keeps running into Sam over and over again, not only in the future but in the past, could that be fate? (TW: death, brief mentions of suicide, postpartum depression, mental health issues, medical issues)
Y’all, I really liked this one! It made me gasp out loud twice, which almost never happens with a romance book. And it had me trying to guess ahead of plots points — and I got them wrong! I’ve never been happier to be wrong, because it meant the book wasn’t super predictable and surprised me multiple times.
I could 100% see this being a great winter read, or even a fun holiday present! It covers a lot of ground — romance, grief, family relationships, just to name a few. Yet at the same time, I never felt like it tried too much and each part was importantly interwoven with others. The romance is there but not super steamy, so it’s a good balance of love and life.
Don’t have much more to say other than it was a fun read, dealt with heavy topics pretty sensitively and made me want to curl up with a cup of cocoa and a Christmas playlist for some reason. Now, I’m off to add Dear Emmie Blue to my TBR!
I enjoyed this book so much! It has characters you can love and characters you can... well, not love. This is a feel good book that touches on some topics that are not feel good. Noelle learns about disappointment and new love. Her family dynamics are dealt with in a positive way. I will be reading more books by Lia Louis.
Eight Perfect Hours is a lovely romance with a hint of wintry charm. Admittedly, I was expecting a whole lot more seasonal setting, but the simple fact that only a portion of this takes place during a snowstorm makes it a novel you can enjoy any time of year!
Noelle and Sam are strangers inadvertently stuck together on a highway who spend eight blissful hours chatting and laughing through the less than ideal circumstances. After they go their separate ways, to separate lives and separate continents, they chalk it up to a perfect bubble of time that won't or can't be repeated.
However, over the next year they find themselves crossing paths again and again. How long can they ignore what seems to be fate pushing them together.
I adored this from start to finish - enjoying every moment that Noelle and Sam happened upon each other and how easily they connected.
I received an eARC of Eight Perfect Hours by Lia Louis from Atria Books and NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. Thank you!
4 stars! This was a charming read about serendipity. It would make a great Hallmark movie!
I received an ARC of this book from the publisher in exchange for my honest review. Thank you to NetGalley and Atria Books for making that happen.
Where do I even begin with this book? It's like wrapping yourself up in a warm blanket on a cold day. It's so warm, and snuggly, and honestly, it has been a really long time since I've read something so heartwrenchingly good. This was a book I didn't know I needed in my life until I finished it.
Noelle and Sam are perfect mirrors, drawn to each other in ways that even they can't explain. Call it fate, serendipity, choice, whatever, but even I believe that you are meant to meet certain people in your life. The world is so big, yet so small, and this book definitely portrays that so well. I loved everything about it, from the way they met to the very end when they realized all the ways they had missed each other over the years.
This book was such a wonderful read and I can't wait to read more from Lia Louis.
I was really looking forward to this book, but at 35% in, I had to stop reading it. I found the book to be very slow and I had a hard time keeping myself invested in the storyline. Definitely in the minority for this one and I wouldn’t let my opinion stop you from reading since it’s other reviews are great for this book.
Adorable read! I really liked Dear Emmie Blue so I was hoping to really enjoy another book from this author, and she did not disappoint!
Nellie and Sam meet during a snowstorm, have a connection, and then prepare to never see each other again. However over the course of the next year or so they continue to bump into each other. Is it just a coincidence or fate? Quick read about specific people being in our lives for a specific purpose…not just by accident. Thanks to NetGalley & the publishers for the ARC!
I don't want to say anything that will give this book away because this is a GEM!! This book is something others have to read. I didn't even read reviews on this book, I wanted no outside influences from other reviews, you know the Synopsis, I hate when I see those in reviews. This book gave me all of the feels. I loved Noelle so much as a character and then I disliked her, QUICKLY, mainly because I feel like she's a very bright woman, and when things are happening in her home especially with her mom, she tends to forget and neglect her own self worth, then we have Ed, her ex who plays a factor in that, but that's after the fact.
We meet Sam, in the beginning of the book, OH WOW!!!! The things I found out about Sam, and the connection they have!!!! Meaning Noelle and Sam of course, it all comes full circle in a beautiful way. the characters in this book THOUGH, Charlie is funny as hell, she makes this book even more fun, and her husband Theo?? OMG!
This book was inspiring, motivational, there was a lot of conversations about "fate" being at certain places at the right time, we get to see each of the characters in their vulnerable state, when they come out of that vulnerability, and even acceptance. This book was awesome, I cant wait until its released. Thanks Netgalley and the publishers for giving me the opportunity to read this book.
I can not recommend this book enough! I read Eight Perfect Hours in one day. This book is one of best books of 2021.. I appreciate net gallery and selected publishers for this early copy
Eight Perfect Hours by Lia Louis was just a treat of a romance novel. It was just a joy of a story, and I absolutely adored it. The story begins with two motorists, Sam and Noelle, who are stranded on a highway in a blizzard. Sam helps Noelle, and in doing this, they realize they have an amazing connection. They spend an incredible eight hours together, and then, they just go their separate ways. At least they think that's what is going to happen. Somehow, they keep running into each other, and that connection is still there. Things just keeping bringing them together, and Sam and Noelle start to wonder what this all means. Again, this was just a delight, and sometimes you need that. Thanks to NetGalley for the early look at this upcoming September 2021 release!
What a charming book, and I love that cozy feeling of reading a book set in winter/blizzard. The chemistry between Noelle and Sam was perfect, and I loved the predictable plot. Their chance encounters throughout the book are so exciting, and it was super cute.
This book was a nice sweet read and exactly what I currently needed after reading some heavy books. The book reminded me a lot of Seredinity (which is one of my favorite movies) and is perfect for someone who needs a lighter read.
Lia Louis does it again! Eight Perfect Hours is such a beautiful, serendipitous read. I simply adored the red thread notion. It gave the story such a whimsical feel and allowed for my heart to route for Noelle and Sam instantaneously. Eight Perfect Hours is for readers who love the fated mate troupe, want a "clean" romance, love amazing side characters and believe in serendipity. They too will find themselves cheering for the ALL characters (well except for you, Ed).
CW: anxiety, post partum depression.
Eight Perfect Hours by Lia Louis is a sweet novel about people who are destined to be together. When Noelle and Sam meet during a city-wide weather disaster they feel a pull toward each other immediately, but the next day go their separate ways. Noelle gives up hope of ever seeing the American stranger again and each reunites with their long-term partners, but their paths keep crossing in the most unlikely places.
Overall, I enjoyed the book, but was underwhelmed. I loved the chemistry between Noelle and Sam and the premise for the story, but found that the plot was predictable. Noelle's character has a nice arc, but Sam's remained fairly flat. There wasn't enough tension written into the storyline to keep me thinking about the book past reading.
Thank you to the publisher for the advanced copy via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
Lia Louis EASILY is becoming one of my favorite authors. I was blown away by Dear Emmie Blue and Eight Perfect Hours did NOT disappoint and I read it straight it almost 1 sitting. I should have paced myself as I loved every character, plot twist, and sentence in this book.
A number of coincidences leads to serendipity for Noelle and Sam.... First, they find themselves stuck in a epic snow storm, trapped in their cars overnight for 8 hours and completely hit if off. But then, they part ways and that is that. However, as chance would have it, these two continue to cross paths at the most random times and it suddenly becomes clear that they can't ignore the fact that their lives are intertwined. Which is complicated as they both are involved with other people and dealing with some heavy 'life' stuff. I love that Noelle is mature and so devoted to her family and wanting to keep the peace.... but her development as a character in this book was through the roof. Sam offers a different sort of perspective and friendship (relationship) that what Noelle is used to and together they seem to figure out their own paths despite being so drawn to each other. This book made me swoon and laugh and melt. Loved it and will be re-reading it again.
Upon reading Louis' "Dear Emmie Blue", I was worried "Eight Perfect Hours" wouldn't meet my expectations. But I thoroughly enjoyed this story and the characters. They were flawed and real and I found myself rooting for Noelle and Sam the entire time!
Don't let the cover fool you, this is not a sweet Hallmark story. I loved the premise but I got tired of the main character Noelle's whining voice. She was a doormat to everyone and I just wanted her to stand up for herself more. I loved how Noelle's and Sam's first encounter played out but the way they kept running into each other was not believable.
I ADORED Dear Emmie Blue last year and jumped at the chance to read an early copy of Eight Perfect Hours. Lia Louis is one of those authors who make me question why I'm even trying to make it as an author! Her stories are so beautiful and heartwarming...like a warm blanket. I adored Noelle and Sam's story, and while I was afraid I'd become annoyed with Noelle's tendency to put everyone's needs above her own, the pacing was so perfect that her character arc developed pretty consistently throughout the book. I loved Noelle's relationship with her best friend Charlie and just about everyone in the book...even her ex. Like Dear Emilie Blue, this book touched on sadness and loss. I choked up as often as I giggled in appreciation of the witty dialogue. It also played with fated mates - a trope I LOVE. I am a tremendous fan of this author and will read anything she writes.
