I absolutely loved this book and can't understand why more people aren't talking about it!!
If you love books based around food, a story set somewhere interesting and allowing for a bit of armchair travel, pick this up!

This was a very cosy read filled with delicious food and good company. I had a lot of fun with this one.

I must firstly apologise for the amount of time it has taken me to provide a review of this book, my health was rather bad for quite some time, something that had me in hospital on numerous occasions and simply didnt leave me with the time I once had to do what I love most.

Unfortunately that does mean I have missed the archive date for many of these books, so It would feel unjust throwing any review together without being able to pay attention to each novel properly.

However, I am now back to reading as before and look forward to sharing my honest reviews as always going forward. I thank you f0r the patience and understanding throughout x

I do not thin it was my time to read this book: I put it away for now and I will be coming back to this once in the mood for that genre.

Wanted so much to like this one and get into it, but the pace was just so slow, and for much of the story, this slow pace is compounded by the anxiety experienced by the main protagonist (kinda felt this should've come with a trigger warning, because the anxiety scenes were very hard to read as they were just so realistic) It just took way too long to get to the actual meat of the story, by which point it had very much lost my attention and desire to finish it

I went into this book expecting a warm, cosy romance. Which is far from what this book is. The main character suffers with anxiety, depression, memory loss and panic attacks. Whilst it was written lovely, this was too close to home and not what I expected from the blurb/cover. Also I really did not like the characters of Maya's boyfriend and father.

Don't be fooled by the cosy cover this book explores some dark themes.
It is an absolute gem of a book, the scenery, the scrumptious food, Maya's incredible journey.
A fabulous accomplished debut.
I'll definitely be on the lookout to see what Redd does next.

I DNF'd this at 54%. I did not like the main character at all and did not want to continue the book.

Would you follow your boyfriend to the Arctic so that he could pursue his dream without really thinking it through? A boyfriend that you don't actually know that well either. Ill prepared for the cold and left alone is anyone's nightmare, how do you cope, by going home or trying to make friends ? The answer is try and make friends and resort to the only thing you know you can do well, make curries. What starts out as a meal for one or two friends suddenly snowballs and soon the curry club is the place to be

I loved this wintery read, it was cute and warm and fuzzy and definitely a must read for the festive season

DNF'd 27%. Not because the writing isn't good or because the characters are terrible. But because I somehow expected a cute romance and this just wasn't it. It completely threw me off and I couldn't get through it.

I need to give a warning that the blurb and the cover makes it look like a rom-com or a light hearted read, and it is not!

I went in thinking this, but once I got over that it was not a rom-com, I did really enjoyed it. It was really out of the range of what I normally read. It was a lot deeper and touched on many different important things including family trauma, mental illness represented well and woman finding her own feet to stand on.

I really enjoyed this book!😊

I went in not knowing what to expect and there wasn't much in the way of romance but I actually didn't really mind.

Most of the plot is about Maya developing as a person, finding ways to cope and overcome her anxiety, as her boyfriend is distant and seems to want somebody with no issues. Will not put a spoiler here but I think it's a clue as to how things pan out.

But she also gets past her fears and starts to put herself out of her comfort zone and creates the Arctic curry club, which sounds amazing and had me basically salivating at the delicious sounding descriptions of the food.

I love reading about different cultures so it was also equally interesting to read about India, when Maya goes to visit, and Longyearbyen and the contrasts between these places.

This book is warm and comforting and perfect to read snuggled up on a winter night.

4/5⭐

Thank you to Netgalley, Avon Books and the author for the review copy, provided in exchange for an honest opinion.

I have given The Arctic Curry Club by Dani Redd three out of five stars ⭐️⭐️⭐️

I really enjoyed this book, the way the author described and wrote about Svalbard and Longyearbyen really helped conjure up an incredible picture in my head. It got to the point where I ended up googling and having a bit of a research of Svalbard to see what it was like and wow, it looks beautiful!

I really liked how main character, Maya. She definitely grew as a person towards the end of the book, there was a particular situation that happened which made me a little annoyed at how she pinpointed one person and didn’t lean into both of them about what had happened (sorry that that’s vague but I don’t want to give spoilers).

I was surprised at the heavy subject matters which were presented in this book, but I was equally impressed with how well the author wrote about those events, however I would suggest people to look into any trigger warnings prior to reading this book just in case.

I really enjoyed this book, as much as I love a happily ever after (what romance lover doesn't) but I do love a happy for now a little bit more. I think it's far more relatable and keeps the door open for more to come.. This has a lovely and heartfelt ending to it, one which works perfectly with the characters and the overall story. I was intrigued by the title, the artic and curry aren't usually known to go hand in hand, but here they do perfectly, everything about this book just works. I have to admit that at first glance I thought that this would be your stereotypical light romantic comedy, oh how wrong I was, this has got real meat on the bone, it's surprising and very enjoyable. Wonderful characters stunning setting and emotional story, a real winner!!

This is light women’s fiction about mixed-heritage (British/Indian) heroine Maya who is trying to make the best out of her life in the Arctic after her boyfriend suddenly leaves her. As if she has not enough on her plate with her anxieties! So Maya starts to cook the recipes from her late mother’s recipe book of Indian food, with a twist. She also starts to regain her forgotten memories and also she starts to discover what really happened in the past, in India...
Might this break-up and the subsequent journey be her way to growth?

I find the mental health issue subplot being quite well described and expressed. I also like that in the core of this novel really is the love to oneself and the healing process leading to maturity.
But, honestly, these fresh motives are paired with couple of clichés, too. So take this as an light, unassuming read, which can really motivate your taste buds and also offer some entertainment after your hard day.

I quite enjoyed this one when I read it a couple of months ago. It was the perfect book to put me in the mood for winter.

It had all the elements I needed, PLUS the food. OMG the food. This book always had me craving delicious food, so I couldn't get through it without a snack.

I loved the setting, and it was overall a fun read.

I apologise to the publisher for the belated review, due to personal issues.

The cover of this book is very deceiving, it definitely looks like an easy going romance, chick-flick vibes (or chicklit is a term I've learnt recently). The title also threw me off, but that doesn't mean I didn't enjoy. It just wasn't what I was expecting. This is a book that surprised me, but the story had a meaningful plot and covered topics I'm sure affect many people.

I was drawn to this book by the cover and I expected a nice light hearted read. Well this book was so much more than that. It dealt with lots of things including mental health issues and relationships. This was such an interesting read and I highly recommend.
