Not exactly what I was expecting. It was so much more. Can I move to Little Bridge Island because I totally fell in love with it. Also with Cabot’s writing! She totally makes the characters jump off the page and become your best friends. I need to read the other two books in this series.
I'll admit, I liked this one while I was reading it. But the more i think about it, the more problems I find with it. Despite being labeled a romance, the characters don't actually romance for the majority of the book. Will's apology is very poorly explained. Jo was constantly making cat puns, which while cute for a little while, got old very fast. The side characters were flat and forgettable. So while in the moment it was fun (I was also sleep deprived while reading it, so factor that in), I don't feel like I can rate this any higher.
Thanks to Netgalley for providing a free copy in exchange for an honest review
While this is the third book in the series and some characters make an appearance, you do not have to read the prior books to follow along.
This book focuses on Jo and Will who are both authors attending Little Bridge Islands first book festival. The story takes place over 3 days and does feel a bit rushed in how the relationship between Will and Jo develops. The chemistry between the two is great and this is a true enemies-to-lovers story.
Jo has a preconceived notion of Will based solely on an interview he gave in which he disparaged her writing and is so focused on holding a grudge that it takes her a bit to realize he's not the man she thought. Will is a gifted writer but can't seem to find the right words when Jo is around. He is on the festival board and invited her there so he could apologize face-to-face. He tries so hard to redeem himself and show her the man he is. As their characters evolve and interact, the realize they have more in common than they originally thought.
I wasn't a fan of the book within a book concept in that there are some "chapters" from Will's book in the midst of the story. I did enjoy the recurring characters who made an appearance though and I enjoyed the way the Snappettes were featured. The kitty puns got a bit old.
Overall, it was an enjoyable, light-hearted read and a good ending to the series. I enjoyed the Key West setting and it made me want to go on a road trip down to the Keys. Nice quick read and good ending to the week.
Super cute and simple romcom. All the tropes we love with a twist. Meg Cabot is great at sweet romance as always!
Super fun read! I read the other two books in the Little Bridge Series. While a bit predictable at times, it was still very enjoyable.
Thank you NetGalley for this ARC.
This book was a bit of a mess for me. Nothing really happens and nothing gets resolved. There are a lot of plot points just left hanging in the Little Bridge Island breeze. There were to many side characters and not enough real interaction between Jo and Will.
(This review was written months after having read the ARC, after dealing with a period of some personal issues. Apologies for the tardiness as I catch up on the backlog of reviews.)
I'm always happy to pick up the latest Meg Cabot, although her contemporary rom-coms feel increasingly insubstantial. But for a light beach read, this'll do.
Returning to Little Bridge Island is a cosy experience, this time for a book festival in which children's author Jo Wright attends because she needs the funds, and because she learns that her author nemesis Will Price who lives there, won't be present. Except of course he is.
You definitely need to be accepting of all the convenient plot devices and character interventions to make this work, which is why it's rather a fluffy, not very involving novel. Also, I had hoped there would be a lot more insight into the book-writing process/publishing world, which was also rather light and uninspired (having read Emily Henry's "Book Lovers" in the meantime, scratches that itch admirably)..
"No Words" is a pleasant enough distraction but as easily forgettable as it is digested.
I love books set on islands and this one was great! It was light and fun and the romance was great! I will definitely be reading Meg Cabot again!
In Meg Cabot’s No Words, the third installment in the Little Bridge Island romcom series, this adult romcom is so fabulously funny from start to finish. Best-selling children’s author Jo Wright had received a stipend to go to a literary fest in Little Bridge Island in the Florida Keys. She’d just came out of the break-up and had hit writers block. And she needed to find a place for her father. She couldn’t forget that this day couldn’t get worse when British adult romance writer Will Price was on the board and will be on the panel with her. She haven’t forgotten what he said to her about her books after a plagiarism scandal book and hated him ever since. During this literary festival, she couldn’t stand him until sparks fly between them when she’d gotten to know him better. She wanted to know why he said those things about her, until they had a heated debate for a panel discussion. From there, her hatred turned into liking every single thing about him, when she wouldn’t dare cross that line. While she hit the literary spark of genius for writing her next book, she became entangled with him even on social media. This magical trip on the island had worked its charm on her when she needed to decide to head back to NYC or stay on the island with him.
This laugh-out-loud romcom is delightful and amazing with a fascinating storyline that every novelist or reader can relate to in every sense of the way. The dual locations of NYC and the Florida Keys was picturesque and romantic for Jo’s love story. The theme of the story is never judge a book by its cover when you see them in a new light.
This charming romcom is amusingly hilarious with a dash of inspiration and charming. I couldn’t find anything to nitpick on since this was picture perfect. I rated this book, five out of five stars. If you love romcoms that keep you laughing in stitches after its over with non-stop action, plenty of romantic drama, and tons of witty humor, No Words is the book for you. This book is recommended for all writers and readers alike and those you love funny romcoms and Hallmark movies.
So, first things first: I did really enjoy listening to this book, because it was fast paced and fun. That’s where the full 3 stars come in. However, there was a lot that I didn’t enjoy as well.
1) The amount of cat puns was UNBEARABLE. And that’s as someone who is obsessed with cats. I hated it so much.
2) Will is an awful writer. From the small bits we got of his writing, I don’t know how he was a best selling author.
3) I didn’t like any of the main characters. They were all annoying.
4) EVERYONE WAS LATE TO THE BOOK FESTIVAL EVENTS AND IT WAS MAKING ME SO MAD.
Could have been way better, but honestly could have been way worse too.
This copy was kindly given to be by Netgalley and the publisher to read for review. All opinions are my own.
I don't know what took me so long to pick this book up but I loved it and literally flew through it in a day (it was a very slow day at work). Light, fun and entertaining, I am loving this series especially when I am in the mood to go to the beach. I really liked Cabot's dip into showing us the writers side of the book world, it was so cool especially as a hopeful writer myself. The way she depicted and handled sexual misconduct was well done as well.
I loved the two main characters. Our FMC inner monologue had me laughing out loud though sometimes the cat puns were a little much and our MMC was a fun one to get to meet as well.
A delightful book full of adventure, action, and thrills. Fun to read, engrossing world building, and very descriptive imagery made it feel like it was cinematic. It's hard to resist the story as it drives forward. Would recommend.
This was a big miss for me.
I really hated how hateful Jo was in the beginning towards Will. It seemed very unreasonable. Also, for me, she was just an unlikeable character. She was very judgmental and I hate that. Most of the book I found myself wanting to smack her. All of the cat puns and references are way over the top. I get that Jo writes the books but THIS book doesn't have to be that juvenile. We can still get a glimpse into Jo's writing style without so many references.
I REALLY hated that claim of SA against one of the characters. It was never looked into and is just a rumor, but everyone is talking about it. Completely inappropriate on many levels.
Jo Wright writes middle school fiction has is coming off a year that really sucks. Things looks to be turning around when she is offered a spot at a convention, until she finds out her nemesis, Will Price, will also be there.
This book is sort of a slow burn in that it takes most of the book for the romance to happen, although time wise it isn’t very long. The characterization is sweet. Will is grumpy, she is outspoken, and the reader is just waiting to see what will happen next. Cabot does not disappoint.
No Words was a fun next installment to the Little Bridge Island series. I think this is my favorite of the series so far. Jo and Will were fun and interesting characters, and while this book is not extremely deep and complex (and nor should it be), it is such a fun, flirty, and cute read about characters that I enjoyed getting to know. I liked the glimpses of previous characters from this series, and definitely enjoyed the new ones. The plot was lighthearted and well-paced for me. I absolutely flew through this book and finished it in a day. I can't wait for more of Little Bridge Island!
Meg Cabot's series set in the Keys was the perfect pandemic escape. I really loved her writing, the romance and setting. Thank you for letting me read and review her books.
Loved this cute beachy read! There were lots of characters that you learn to love and also some you love to hate! Gives you an insight to how authors promote new books and the work they do “behind scenes!” Meg Cabot never disappoints!
This book definitely brighten up my day. It made me want the summer days to come back sooner. We all need the summer. And I know that this book will be perfect for the summer. Expect some fun adventures and romance while you read this book.
This was a solid and enjoyable read. I wouldn't say it was especially memorable, and I had just read another book with nearly the same premise, but I would recommend it to anyone looking for a cute PG-13 romance.
Thank you to Netgalley and Harper Collins for the ebook ARC of this book as well as Harper Collins Audio for the audiobook!
This book has an enemies to lovers trope in it that is very interesting, considering both parties are well-established authors. It also is a vacation romance, which I love. I loved the discussion of writing and what might inspire authors, and I also loved the wit and charm of this book. It’s a quick read, and the narrator in the audiobook is wonderful!
This was my first by this author, but it will not be my last!
