Oh man! This book really made me want to go to a multi-day book fair/festival/convention!
I keep seeing posts from people going to book events and I think comic con is soon. Which one do you recommend?
Also, I would love to hang out with a group of authors. The trajectory of conversation just seems amazing and insightful.
Jo Wright is the bestselling author of the Kitty Katz series for children and she has been invited to be on a panel at the Little Bridge Island Book Festival in Florida. She does not want to go there because another author who publicly criticized her books and category lives on that island.... But she needs the very generous stipend.
Will Price, bestselling author of novels of tragic love and loss, also author Jo despises. He is superb at his prose but can not form into spoken word what he means.
Ahhh yes enemies to lovers there you are my fav trope!
I loved all the different authors that were there and their different books, genres, categories and it was so fun being a part of the author bus lol.
There was gossip, scandal, books, beaches, essential oils, meet and greets, slowburn, yacht rides, and so much more.
I can't wait to go to Florida next month!
I also loved the positive message about how certain books always hold a special place in your heart if they helped you to learn to read! Then the books that helped you to learn to grow emotionally. ❤️😍
tw: handsy gross dudes, you know the ones that will help you get your name out there.
Thank you avonbooks for the finished copy and the e-ARC for my honest and voluntary review.
A series of books about a sweet little island town could theoretically run out of characters, right? The third book in the Little Bridge Island series has solved that - the main character is author Jo Wright, a New York author visiting to be a part of the island's first book festival, and receiving a hefty stipend for her participation.
She confirms with her publicist that the author who lives nearby is not part of the festival, since he ripped out her heart and stomped on it previously when he spoke badly about children's books - Jo's specialty.
While the books in the series are predictable, knowing they're so warm and fuzzy is a comfort. Reading a book to escape, and knowing that true love will be found and wishes will come true is hardly something to complain about. I gave this book 4 out of 5 stars and I look forward to reading more about the residents and visitors to Little Bridge Island in the future.
I love Meg Cabot! And I love anything with even a *hint* of enemies to lovers, so this was a fun read.
However, it wasn't my favorite. I can suspend disbelief for *a lot*, especially in romance, but this was a little too much for me to buy into. Plus, it was too quick of a read, so I feel like nothing -- the animosity between the characters and their eventual relationship -- was established enough to believe in.
I still enjoyed the characters and setting, and even as a part of a series, you can read this book as a standalone, but this unfortunately wasn't a slam dunk for me.
A big thanks to William Morrow Paperbacks and NetGalley for the e-ARC in exchange for my honest, unbiased review. NO WORDS is out October 12, 2021.
Jo swears she will not go to Little Bridge Island where her self-proclaimed nemesis (and bestselling author) Will Price lives. She hasn't seen him since he humiliated her but when she gets an offer she can't refuse and a promise he won't be there - she goes. BUT, not only is Will there and highly involved, he is genuinely sorry and trying to really prove himself to Jo. This book was so much FUN! A perfect escape and a slow burn romance that will keep you turning the pages.
When I heard that Meg Cabot was coming out with a new adult romance book, I was intrigued. After reading the blurb, I was super excited because who doesn’t love a good enemies to lovers trope and the concept sounded fun and cute.
In No Words, children’s book author Jo Wright gets invited to an author convention on a small island off the Florida Keys and is displeased to see that her nemesis and rival author Will Price is not only attending, he’s the main sponsor and she will have to see him a lot throughout her time there.
I loved the concept of this book, however the execution fell flat for me. Jo and Will didn’t have a single interaction until about 30%, and then by 50% they had only spoken a couple of times. This made it really hard for me to buy into the later romance.
Additionally, Jo is in her thirties and is written like a teenager. She is constantly referencing her books (which are about a teenage cat) and using phrases like “purr-fect” and “whiskers!” which really took me out of the story and made her seem immature.
Finally, the romance itself seemed half baked. Because the pacing was so slow in the first half of the book, the second half seemed rushed and the book ended before any real connection could be made. I was also confused by the epilogue as it left me with questions on the status of the relationship.
While I think that this book was cute and had potential, it unfortunately just wasn’t for me. I think that this book would better appeal to a younger reader who is just getting into the world of adult romance and is looking for something clean and light.
Thank you to Netgalley and William Morrow/Custom House for the ARC in exchange for an honest review.
Jo’s nemesis, Will, lives on Little Bridge Island. She swears she will never go there until she gets an offer she cannot refuse – to speak at the first ever book festival. When she runs into Will she is surprised to find that he is not only sorry for the past but trying to change his ways. And even more surprised to find herself very attracted to him.
I’m a huge Meg Cabot fan and love that I’ve been able to grow up reading her books from The Princess Diaries to the Little Bridge Island series – I love them all! I found Jo to be a very relatable character – funny, sarcastic, but with a big heart. And Will was a great match for her throughout the book. I couldn’t put this book down once I started. Thank you Netgalley and William Morrow and Custom House for the eARC in exchange for my honest review.
Jo, a successful children's author in a creative rut, gets offered to do a book festival in The Florida Keys, but is looking for any excuse to get out of it. She can't afford to say no to the paycheck, but her arch nemesis Will lives there and after he bashed her in the press, the last thing she wants to do is see him in real life. When she is told he wouldn't be there she reluctantly agree's but is shocked when he shows up unannounced last minute. Cue the awkward uncomfortable tension! When Will tries to apologize for his mistakes, Jo can't get why he did it in the first place and has a hard time forgiving him. But throughout the weekend they spend more time together and Jo starts to realize the people she thought she knew were not as she thought. Maybe Will wasn't bad after-all? In fact maybe she actually likes him?!
This book was so enjoyable. I read it so fast. I totally empathized with Jo getting stuck in a creative rut and not wanting to be confrontational with her peers after Will bashes her in the press. The secondary characters, the other authors, were hilarious and perfect in their roles! This would be classified as an enemies to lovers slow burn romance. I wished we would have gotten more romance between Will and Jo. It was so much lead up and barely any relationship and the end was left somewhat vague.
*Please Note this is apart of a series, but can be read as a stand alone without any confusion! I did not read the previous books and didn't feel like I was missing any information, although I will be going back and checking out the other stories!
Gosh, I think I’ve been reading Meg Cabot books for almost as long as I’ve been a reader.
This was a fun foray into the world behind the scenes of authors and book events. A little mystery, a lot of slow burn, a bit of enemies to lovers, some cat puns, and honestly just shake that all up, and you’ve got it.
I did enjoy Will more than Jo, and some of the cat puns were the tiniest bit of cringe for me, personally, but otherwise, this was an enjoyable read.
Meg Cabot has been an autobuy author of mine before I even know what that was. (All American Girl anyone?)
The Little Bridge series is the perfect escape and I think this has been my favorite. I love that each book introduces new characters and Jo was a personal fave, with Molly from No Offense being a close second. ⭐⭐⭐⭐ pick this up if you're not quite ready to give up summer.
What a joyful book this was. First of all, the cover is stunning, so I was pretty much smiling from the moment I picked it up until I finished it. I love books about writers, so a literary festival on a picturesque beachy island was a perfect choice for an end of summer read. Jo Wright writes the YA Kitty Katz series about a teenage cat, and the number of cat related puns Cabot incorporated into her narrative was amazing. They seemed so on brand for a YA author and I wish this series was real.
Jo’s thrilled to attend the book festival until she finds out her nemesis, Will Price, will be there as well. Each author in this book was so unique and quirky. I loved that they all seemed to be a caricature of their genre. They made the story so much fun and brought so much life and humor to every conversation.
This was definitely a character-driven story, which I sometimes struggle with, but the quirkiness of the characters combined with the picturesque setting made this book fly by for me. It was light and witty and the romance was cute but not over the top. It appears that this is part of a series all set on the same island and I will absolutely be picking up the rest.
I was very excited when I received an ARC of No Words. I didn’t realize that this was the third book in her Little Bridge Island series but I was able to get into the world very easily.
The book focuses on Jo Wright, a children’s book author and Will Price, an adult fiction author. They met at a convention but after some unfortunate events, they have spiraled into a rivalry. Upon getting an invite to a convention, where Jo is told that Will will not be in attendance, he is suddenly everywhere because he is one of the main sponsors and helps take over some responsibilities when an organizer has gone into labor. Jo and Will are thrown together often but it took a while before they actually share any words.
I felt like the premise had good bones but fell short for me. Jo was often very immature (she often used phrases her teenage character from her books would use) and while I understood where she was coming from her history with Will, she was reluctant to hear Will’s side of the story or to see it as an unfortunate mistake.
I did like Will and thought his character had some depth. However, their romance and relationship, once it did happen, fell flat and felt forced. I think they needed more of actual adult conversation and interactions. It just felt underwhelming and lacked romance for a romance book.
Overall, this wasn’t for me but I can understand the appeal to readers who love quick reads and closed door romance.
Thank you to Netgalley and William Morrow/Custom House for the ARC in exchange for an honest review.
This book is so good. I would highly recommend it. As someone who writes novels for fun and hopes to one day become a published author, this book gives a really interesting perspective. It is so cool that there is this new genre of books about authors coming up. This one is a really good book if you like Beach Read. The writing style is awesome because there is a novel within the novel that you read chunks of and is referenced throughout. I really love the different characters that are shown and how they are all from different places with different backgrounds, but come together for writing. I would definitely read this book again. I did not know that this book is a part of series and the story totally makes sense without reading the first two. Now though I will want to read the first two books in the series. I really like the author's writing style and her deep character building.
A book about books for the book lover in me? Yes, please! This one was a really cute fictional romance where you will be nonstop rooting for the main character to find happiness.
Cabot once again delivers a light, fun visit to her Florida Keys-inspired Little Bridge Island, and though this is third in a series, it reads just fine as a standalone (though I enjoy seeing glimpses of characters from the previous books). Jo Wright is a New York author of a once-popular children's series who is struggling with writer's block, tight finances, caring for her aging dad, and a feud with another author, Will Price. She has received an invitation to Little Bridge’s book festival with a very nice stipend that she really can’t afford to refuse; she wants to attend, but only if her agent can assure her that she won’t see Will anywhere at the event. After receiving word that Will is out of town, she accepts and looks forward to rubbing elbows with a host of quirky fellow writers. Unfortunately, Jo has been misinformed: not only is Will in attendance, but he is hosting many of the festival’s events at his swanky home and luxurious yacht. Can Jo force herself to listen to Will’s side of the story and even forgive him?
I totally enjoyed this escape from everyday life. The love/hate relationship between Jo and Will evolved nicely, but Cabot’s minor characters absolutely stole the show! Loved all the quirky authors who ate and drank their way through the festival with Jo, encouraged her in her writing, and added so much levity to the book. In the book’s best line, another author warns Jo that if she breaks up her best characters, “you’re going to be the scourge of Goodreads!”

From the first paragraph, I knew this book would be a good one. I immersed myself into the book from the first chapter and I cannot say enough good things about this book! Honestly amazing! The writing is incredible and the plot is just one to die for. I am absolutely obsessed with this book. My favorite part would have to be the character development throughout the book. Character development is something I look forward to and this book did not disappoint.
The feisty heroine and her "kittenisms" made me laugh. Our local authors' event isn't nearly this much fun.
Jo Wright's life has been upended lately: caring for her aging father, a missed deadline and pressures from her publisher, and trauma from the past highly-publicized slam from fellow author Will Price. As Jo combats her writer's block, what seems like a huge gift is offered to her: an exorbitant fee for making an appearance at an Author's Festival. Jo is excited for the opportunity until she realizes the event is scheduled to take place in Little Bridge, Florida, the home of Will, who so publicly humiliated her.
I love Meg Cabot - always a fun, light read. As a librarian and having participated in author events, what I liked most was the perspectives of the authors. I appreciated the behind-the-scenes look at event such as this. I also like the continuation of Little Bridge series.
A meet-cute romance between two rival authors. As an author myself I appreciated the plot point of the two authors stuck together at a book festival. As a former resident of the Florida Keys, I loved the setting too.
Jo came off as extremely childish, which was a deliberate choice for the character by the author, but also didn’t make her very endearing to me. She was a children’s author, but her silly cat humor just never struck a chord with me. Will started off arrogant, but showed remorse for his past behavior. He was given a chance at redemption and was a likable character. I wasn’t sure how the two ended up together, because even though opposites attract, it felt like a bit of a stretch. Jo did grow as a character, but it still read as a little awkward. The romance never made my heart beat faster. It felt too slow at parts and too rushed at others. It was a classic enemies to lovers trope that was a good read but never blew me away. It was an easy, breezy beach read filled with drama and banter. It is perfect for fans of chick-lit and rom-com. I enjoyed it, but didn’t fall head over heels for it.
I’ve adored Meg Cabot since I was little, but somehow I hadn’t read any of her Little Bridge series. I didn’t realize this was the third but it worked well as a stand-alone for me. I thought it was so sweet and I love a good enemies to lovers plot line. And the side characters were really quirky and brought a lot of personality. I did think that the romance was very slow burn as the main characters didn’t have much interaction until the second half. I would have liked a little more from their relationship. All in all, It was a cute story and a quick read, and I do recommend for Cabot fans.
Meg Cabot's new novel "No Words" is a fun romantic comedy which made me laugh out-loud several times. The story follows children's author Jo Wright who is a bit at a low point in life as she attends the first ever book festival on Little Bridge Island. She has been offered a hefty stipend to be present at the festival and to participate in all its events. The hitch is that it puts her in close contact with Will Price the author of "internationally bestselling novels of tragic love and loss". Will had recently made some unflattering comments about Jo's books and Jo is definitely carrying a lot of anger and resentment towards Will. As the book progresses, Jo starts to see Will in a new light. This is a light and quick read that is offers some wonderful escapism.
