This was a quick, exciting and well-written book. The characters were well-liked and I had no complaints. There wasn't any excessive language. Just an all-around good book.
The Matchmaker Bride by Ginny Baird is the story of a reality TV show star, Meredith, who is great at matchmaking for others, but her own love life is pretty much non-existent. When she is asked by an interviewer on a TV show where she is trying to market her own reality TV show about her own love life, the adventures begin......She tells the audience that she is in a relationship - but it's all a lie.
While the story is somewhat predictable, I thoroughly enjoyed Baird's writing style and prowess as well as the story. It's fun; it has some twists and turns; and I was completely engaged.
I truly recommend this book! #netgalley #matchmakerbride
This was very cute. The author notes it’s a stand -alone but I’m so glad I read the first book (The Duplicate Bride) because I honestly think I would have felt as if I was missing something if I hadn’t. I really enjoyed the world and cast of characters the author created - I could happily read a book about any secondary character featured. All that said, while this book didn’t change my life, I would most likely read another set in the same universe.
I received a copy of this book from Entangled Publishing. All opinions are my own.
I loved, loved, loved it! This book is so good. It has become my favorite romance novel. I absolutely adored both main characters, and other characters are great too. The story flowed beautifully and there were no boring moments that felt dragged.
Meredith is a matchmaker but unfortunately, she is single. That doesn't look good for her profession. In one desperate moment, she lies about having a boyfriend and everything changes. Now she must convince the world that she is happily seeing a boatbuilder in Maine. Convincing Derrick is another story altogether.
Derrick can't believe the situation he finds himself in. But he admits that it's not really Meredith's fault and they might make the best of her media blunder. So he agrees to her scheme and they both decide to play pretend. However, what happens next is something neither could have expected.
Get ready to see two perfect-for-each-other people try to fight their feelings. It's sweet, romantic, and heartwarming story. All in all, it's a wonderful romantic story, and I thoroughly enjoyed reading it. I highly recommend it to all romance lovers.
Meredith, a celebrity, a matchmaker ends up making a story about her boyfriend to save face on a live show and the media identifies this mystery guy as Derrick who is her acquaintance she is sort of crushing on for a while. Now they have to get into a fake relationship for her channel biggies to consider her for a big show all by herself. Once they are forced to live in close proximity in a quaint town and charming house, there is instant chemistry. I expected Derrick to be very rude almost like a grumpy person but he seemed really sweet and had a bit of sass in him. Derrick and his ex-wife's relation was very decently handled and also seemed mature.
It was an entertaining, fast-paced, enemies to lovers trope based romcom!!
*** I would suggest that you read the book prior to this one, Duplicate Bride, as there are many references, as well as returning characters mentioned throughout that without that foundation will keep you from enjoying the story fully and as it is intended.
Ginny Baird’s returns to Blue Hill, Maine and the Albright family in The Matchmaker Bride. There hasn’t been a story in a very long time where I found myself laughing hysterically, with tears…even though this wouldn’t be considered a comedy, Derrick had a way about him, especially when Meredith is involved, that would bring a chuckle many times throughout the story…the baby shower scene is one where the snorting laughter is unavoidable.
The rapid fire banter between Derrick and Meredith drives the story from beginning to end…with an intelligent dialogue that guides you seamlessly through their story, keeping you engaged and entertained. There are many times when both Derrick and Meredith’s true nature, and softer side come to the forefront…these are when the heartstrings are pulled and leaving the reader with a sigh in their heart.
I truly hope there are more stories to come involving the Albright family and Blue Hill, Maine…this is a family, and a town that is just too hard to leave once the story ends.
This ARC book was complimentary, provided by the Publisher and NetGalley. I am voluntarily providing my honest review.
This is the second book in this series. It follows The Duplicate Bride. I found it to be a very entertaining read. I loved Derrick and Meredith. What starts out as an apology turns into something fake. The chemistry between these two is hot! The longer they stay together the more attraction these two have. Will they be able to turn fake into real? Pick up this book because you for sure want to find out what happens. Thanks NetGalley. I voluntarily reviewed this book in exchange for an honest review.
Meredith uttered words on national TV she couldn’t take back. As a matchmaker, how would it look if she didn’t have a significant other? While she fakes a relationship in order to not damage her reputation, her “boyfriend” is blindsided by the media. Derrick Allbright couldn’t stand Meredith after his brother’s wedding, but when she promises to help him win back a second chance with his ex-wife, he decides to go along with her plan. As they get to know each other better, Derrick becomes convinced he is trying to win the wrong woman. I loved the ending to this book, and this series is one of my favorites!
I really wanted to like this book. But, not having read the first one in the series, I was completely lost and was never really able to get into it.
Thank you to netgalley for the Arc.
Received a copy of this book for review. Overall it is a good read for me. Love the chemistry between the main characters. Love all the characters. What I love is that each of them does make a difference to the story as it developed. Like to read how the characters In the story are interrelated to each other. It make the story more exciting to read. The setting of the story is nice and is fit nicely to the story.Story plot are well penned out, with a slight twist to it in the end
The story follows Matchmaker Meredith who accidentally ends up lying that she is engaged to a boat maker in Blue Hill, Maine who she actually does not like at all, and those feelings are reciprocated by him too.
This story was a typical romance, with enemies to lovers trope, which is one of my favorite book tropes.
It had both Meredith and Derrick’s POV, which made it easier to understand both the characters very well.
It was pretty fast paced but I felt like sometimes it dragged when I was reading Meredith’s thoughts.
I loved that the women in the story were not pitted instead they helped each other rise.
It was a fun and light read, exactly what you’ll need after a heavy book!
"The Matchmaker Bride", by Ginny Baird, centers around Boston business woman Meredith who runs a popular matchmaking business and TV show. Meredith is doing well for herself until she has a big TV interview in which it is revealed she doesn't have a boyfriend herself. Caught off guard, she pretends to have a boyfriend (a man she really knows) who is then hounded by the press. She convinces him to go along with the scheme to help her out, and sparks begin to fly. I thought this was a really cute book! My only negatives are that the ending felt really rushed (I would have enjoyed a longer relationship between them) and there were continued references to something happening the summer before which was never explaned.
Overall, I enjoyed this book and would probably read another book by Baird. Thanks to NetGalley for the ARC. All opinions are my own.
I was able to read the first book in this series and was hooked. This one had it all as well. I loved the characters and got to see more about them. I was hooked on this story.
This book is the second in the series, I feel that you must read the first book in the series to truly understand what is happening in this book.
This book is a fun slow burn, almost enemies to lovers, but really a lot of miscommunication. The banter between Derrick and Meredith is great, how they know what buttons to push for each other. The supporting family cast really makes the book though, and I look forward to reading most stories with them in it. I think that dual POV was done well, but would have liked more of Derrick.
I was definitely confused about a lot of what was happening in the book because of how much you need to know about the characters from the first book.
I loved the characters in this book. Derrick is a sweetheart, and Meredith is his dream woman, I loved them together. it is said that its a good standalone, but its not, there is so much that went on in the book before this one that I wish was highlighted more in this book, especially if this book us a standalone. There is also some history behind their story that I also wish I knew more about, pretty much read book one before you read this book, so you can get a better back story. But one thing I will say is that Derrick is just perfection. I wish there was more though. Still enjoyed the book.
Thank you to NetGalley and Entangled Publishing for an ARC of this book.
I really struggled with this book. Since I haven't read the first book, I was missing some of the background which was a bit confusing. It seemed to just plod along, especially in the middle part and I was tempted to stop reading but I kept going and am glad I did. I liked how the book ended and the resolution of the plot. I did like the characters, but the slow moving plot was tough to take.
I really wanted to love this book - I loved the first book in the series and full expected this one to build on that. Instead, I had great difficulty connecting with the characters and couldn't connect with their story. Truly, I put down this book so many times that I seriously considered just not finishing it. Fans of the author will probably enjoy this one, however, this one wasn't for me.
Meredith Galanes is a television matchmaker whose inability to find a match in her own love life might just cost her those syndication dreams. A little white lie about a boyfriend in Blue Hill, Maine sends the media to Derrick Albright's door. Derrick agrees to play along, only because Meredith has promised to reconnect him with his with ex-wife, Olivia. But his perfect match might not be Olivia...
Baird has a delightful way of taking a ridiculous premise and turning it into a very enjoyable romance. Meredith and Derrick really did feel like a perfect match. I'd say that the length of this book was also a perfect match for me, after some rather exhausting novels. I was quite amused by Meredith's aunt and the baby shower games - what a lot of fun. And how can one not love the Albrights? The Duplicate Bride is still my favourite book of the series, but I did enjoy this.
Overall, this is a cute story with likable characters. It was fun to see the family from book 1 again and to meet some new family. Unfortunately, this one didn't quite carry the same tension and anticipation as the first book. The lack of communication was more frustrating than anything else. But with that said, I still want to be adopted by the Albright family and live in their waterfront Maine mansion.
Thank you to the author, publisher, and Netgalley for the ARC. I voluntarily read and reviewed this title.
The Matchmaker Bride by Ginny Baird a three-star read that may be worth a second chance. This was number two in the Blue Hill Bride series, and they are supposed to be able to be read as stand-alone, but I felt lots for chunks of this story, it was clear that Meredith and Derrick had history, and maybe if I had known more about that I would have enjoyed this one, but honestly, I struggled to read it most of the time. It almost felt like I as missing part of a private joke, I didn’t feel like I knew the secondary characters enough to care about them. I may pick up the first story and then do a re-read of this one, after I have read something else by this author as I hate feeling like I have left a story not fully finished, I only hope that I enjoy the story as I have heard such good things from this author. If you like to get deep and under the skin of characters like I do I would advise reading The Duplicate Bride first, if you just like light and don’t care about the secondary characters then try reading this one first.
